As a history buff, it's good to learn that the buyer intends to keep the ranch intact, AS a true working ranch. I hope the employees continue to be treated as they have while it was still a family owned ranch.
HI all, I'm from Australia and really enjoying the Yellowstone show with the brief 6666 diversion for Jimmy a real treat, where the modern cowboy story is opening a brief window. I watched some interviews of Taylor Sheridan and its obvious he has a love and protective commitment to Western culture and cowboys. We have similar outback cattle Stations (ranch) communities that live and work in ways pretty identical to the big ranch communities in the US. except say the size of many of the big Stations are in the millions of acres where helicopters are used to sweep big acres to bring them in close enough for horse riders to muster. we also have the smaller cattle farmers that interact closer to big cities and feel the brunt of he city centric resentment towards ranching but it seems much deeper and a more culturally sensitive issue over there in the US. We have a similar city v country cultural divide here in Australia but with most things we are a decade or two behind you guys in such shifts in attitude so expect it to follow here. I really appreciate the shows creators publicizing the ranch life and characters through this fictional medium though i get the positive impression the 6666 scenes were done with non actors and using the normal cattle work footage, even spotted one cowboy using an Aussie stock whip at the back of the mob. If city people don't understand a thing they don't value it, If other people have an irrational dislike for that same thing they will noisily try and influence the attitude of those that have no exposure of their own to make a balanced judgement so see these shows as important in presenting ranching and cow-horsemanship in a positive way all over the world.
This happened all over the country here in Colorado before the mid 1990"s there where a lot of big places and there still are just south of me is the Red Top Ranch its over 60,000 ac. The sad part is if you didnt buy land back when it was less than $100/ac there is no way for a guy to do it anymore a cow just wont pay for $400 t0 $1000 an ac ranch. That is what will be the end of ranching in this country. Ive spent the last 30 years paying off a small ranch its tuff to do but its better than a 9 to 5 in town.
The Californians don't keep their word. They bought my granddads ranch in Montana and cut it up into 5 acre parcels after they promised and contracted they wouldn't.
Taylor Sheridan is no Californian. He was born and raised in Guthrie Tx. He scripted Yellowstone because of his love for the cowboy life and wanting the world to enjoy it as well. He purchased the 6666 to protect the lifestyle he enjoys. Eventually all land will lose to “progress”, but until then, stop bitching and help support the lifestyle by visiting some of these ranches.
Taylor Sheridan ain't a Californian, he is born & breed in Texas. Taylor loves Texas and the cowboy way of life and in fact has been a cowboy all of his life, growing up on a ranch Texas and he also owns the Bosque Ranch in Texas. My Grandma used to say "You can take the boy out of Dixie; but you can't take Dixie out of the boy" I live in Panhandle Texas just south of the 4sixes Dixon Creek Division which is where some of the filming for 1883 & the Yellowstone episodes occurred. There were rumors flying around here that someone from China was interested, I can't attest that is true, I sure was relieved when Mr. Sheridan purchased the ranch.
I remember seeing the 6666 ranch out the window of the car traveling from fort Worth to Dickens as a child I hate to see all of our ranch Land and all of our farmland being bought up by corporate interests it's not going to end well
It is my understanding that Miss Marion put it in her will that the ranch be sold and her daughter Windi did not have a choice to keep it. Windi was raised from the age of five by B.F. Philips jr. You can't get a better horse education than that. I think the history of the family as well as the Pitch Fork the Matador the Wagonner the Tongue River are far more interesting than anything that Hollywood can come up with.
That’s what I heard too. Wonder why Miss Marion did that? She was handed a legacy ranch on a silver platter, I just wonder why she wouldn’t do the same for her daughter.

Living in town that was once cattle country and what it looks like now, its disgusting and heartbreaking. I'm not original from where I call home now and when I moved here it was a shock to find a place to live that I loved. That is all gone now the major families that owned it sold out and moved to texas. I have tried to hang on for as long as I can but I cant anymore. Years from now this will happen to most places and it's a shame.
One thing that steve said, that I don’t think he had any idea what he was actually saying because he’s not a real cowboy, is that he was excited about Guthrie becoming larger and there being hotels and that the supply house wouldn’t be the only gig in town. He, and the others who think that’s a good thing, have no idea that the people who live there don’t want that. They don’t want to live in a city, they want to live in a town! That town is their home where they’ve grown up and raised their children! You watch, if it happens like Steve says, the people that made that place what it is today will leave, and then all you’ll have is a bunch of wannabe cowboy actors out in the middle of the country with nobody there to tell their dumbasses which end a horse shits out of!
I had never heard of the Four Sixes until watching Yellowstone. I'd imagine there were a lot of people like me. I had heard of and had been on the King Ranch, I assumed that the "King" had got it all back inna day! LOL. Glad to see I was wrong. I ran thru W. Texas a lot in my years as a truck driver but 90% of the time I ran at night back before the speed limits got stupid and the revenue collectors started coming down so hard on Professional Drivers. You could make it from El Paso to the Louisiana line in a day back then. If the show is half as good as Yellowstone it will cause the economy in Guthrie to grow somewhat as tourists will start looking at their maps closer!
I’ve been in the land business for 20 years. This is becoming more prevalent, even in my families 100+ year old dairy farm. There are multiple heirs, they can’t agree on what to do with the land, and it’s worth enough at least one wants to sell out and the others can’t afford to buy them out, so it’s either parcelization or sell it all. Most don’t want the life anymore, it’s easier to take the money and run, we could not compete with large commercial operations, so they sold the cows and right now when my great aunt dies it’s most likely getting carved up and sold to developers. I hate it, but can’t stop it, I don’t have the cash for it and the income could not be self-sustainable to run it. I’m glad they at least sold out to a Texan who at least seems to want to continue it as a working ranch and has the revenue streams to support it. Say what you want, and history has yet to be written on the deal, but that Hollywood money might end up saving it in the long run…..
Well, I'm a 70 year old cowboy, how about slipping a couple grand in the mail for me?? That would be some nice support. Make up for that one rank bull that kept me out of the money in Abilene or the time I couldn't rodeo for a month because of a broken leg or maybe the time my rope got tangled and I lost the tip of my finger by the roped steer .......

There are some lessons to be learned on Yellowstone. If you listen and use common sense. Western life has always been about surviving. I was raised using some these old ways teaching methods. Hard work, keeping your word and doing your job, no matter how shitty it was. Some will see the Glamour on Yellowstone and "Hollywood"up things out there. But there are some life teaching moments and maybe some clues for the generation that will see a way of life that ain't all video games and computers, high tech stuff, and sitting on their ass. Maybe they will learn a way of life that our ancestors fought so hard to make easier for the next generation but never imagined it would reach this level. Some of the old ways are still the best. Life on a "real ranch" ain't easy. Maybe some will get a clue and realize some modern stuff and old ways can combine and make things better.
I think it’s a good deal for someone truly interested in the horse business buying the 6666. Much better than someone from New York city’s stock market buying it to make a profit on it no matter what happens.
Sad to see it sold and not employee owned, but so happy it didn’t sell to a Big Tech guy or some Chinese person. And at least the buyer was born in Texas. I'm afraid "Hollywood" is going to get a lesson in what it takes to produce cattle and horses in America. The added financial resources from Hollywood will no doubt help but the margins that this group is used to making, frankly the rest of the American markets are used to making, are far different than what ranchers and farmers make. Where else do you invest everything you have, every day, just to have a job, you can lose in a year? Takes guts, experience, faith, and a lot of hard work. That describes the American rancher and farmer.
I'm hoping that any revenue that comes from movies etc will go right back into the 6666. Keeping it a working ranch. Life is tough and just getting tougher. Sometimes to keep the tradition you have to have a "side gigg". While that is what I hope to see I'm by no means telling them what to do. Just hoping tradition and hisorstay alive.
I have no good thoughts about Hollywood, we have learned some not so good things about the people in Hollywood. Hollywood will either change it for the better or the worse. Time will tell. Money really changes peoples morals and characters. JMO. Hoping for the best. WATCH it turn into the "new" LAS VEGAS! maybe the NFR and other big events will become of it also.

HOLLYWOOD HAS NEVER CHANGED ANYTHING FOR THE BETTER!
I agree with you 3. But I just don't understand why she would sell the place. If they keep it some what like it is that will be great. New to your channel will subscribe and Thank You for sharing. Is the King Ranch bigger then the 4 6's?
Yes much bigger, king ranch is about 825,000 acres.
The heirs would rather get their money now and split up what will most likely be $200,000,000 to $300,000,000. I can see both sides for sure though.
Sold for 350 million one off deal including all cattle, staff, mineral, etc
Heirs didn't have a choice, the owner stated in her will for the ranch to be sold.
The new owner is from Texas
Worst mistake ever, they will ruin its history
you people are foolish if you think it is going to remain the same. really, Hollywood?
God help the 4 6s future, the owner should carry on the traditions cuz thats history thats still alive there
Taylor Sheridan purchased the ranch so he can film an offshoot of the Yellowstone show.Taylor grew-up ranching all his life in TX and owns another ranch there . I’m sure will do good buy the 6666’s!
The kids that inherited the ranch are probably vegan.
Maybe watch the tape??? The ranch was sold as per instructions of the owners will.
Yeah 6666 RAM
Selling to chinese
The whole damn world is a sellout
Well, seeing how it’s not really a ranch and only a tax shelter for an oil company why would it matter.
It’s a bunch of shit.
They sold out to "Hollywood" well that sucks
I’ve got a $1
Maybe I can buy it and takeover the ranch
I’ll do a better job keeping it a workin cattle ranch
I can only dream of being a cattle baron and their living my dream
HOLLYWOOD?!
WOW?!
Of all the people they could’ve sold it to
Should had donated it to the Veterans.
6666 Disneyland Theme Park!?
Never get off yur horse.
