As a german this is fun to watch^^ Also many of the names like Elster, Eule, Storch, Star etc. are german bird names (Storch is stork which is why she has those long legs^^)
The default code is 204512, 0451 is the classic default code in all Immersive Sim games such as System Shock and Deus Ex, the first door/safe code is always 0451.
I always find it funny when people immediately think that must be a Fahrenheit 451 reference when it was actually just the door code to the Looking Glass Studio offices 😄
Its probably both. Iirc Warren Spector claimed it was *just* the office door code but I remember another developer, don't remember exactly who at this point, who said he was wrong and it was an intentional reference.@@-TriP-
Love your playthrough as ever! I adored your Hollow Knight LP for your extensive thoroughness and theorizing and the appreciation for aesthetic and references, and this one is equally awesome. Also, "Soviet Era but German Influence" (And Chinese too) is just East Germany, I say. The flag of the Nation is straight up the DDR/East German flag. It's interesting that the humans/Gestalts have German first names and East Asian last names. :O Yeong and Seo are Korean names, Itou is Japanese. Also good on you for noticing that the photograph was of a different person! :D
Super, super happy you're playing this as I just recently played through it on a whim. I adored my playthrough of the game. It is a must play in my book.
Well, at least you are TRYING to read the German texts. I guess that is something at least. :D A few easy things if you are interested: "sch" is always pronounced like the english "sh", "ä" is like the "a" in "hat" or the "ea" in "head", "ch" is not like "k" but like a toneless hissing sound, but softer. Oh, and since it appears quite often. The "s" in front of a "t" like in "Gestalt" is also pronounced like english "sh". And to help you with the names: Elster = Magpie, Star = Starling, and so on. All the names are birds, so you may remember them better by translating them.
No Spoilers. Signalis is special, really glad you're playing it. Great you noticed the photo's changed and the two different names, you wouldn't believe how many people don't even read the photo's basic description thinking its only purpose is to be a puzzle solution. You also did a good job interacting with unmarked spots and objects, it's not important for simply finishing the game but goes a long way in adding to the atmosphere and squeezing out a bit more clarity on what's going on. The only part you "screwed up" was picking up The King before looking around the room, that section is practically designed to bait you into missing things. I'm tempted to suggest replaying the prologue on your own again so that you can compare Elster's impressions of that room and objects in it to a "situation" that comes up later in the game. Assuming you've not already finished it. Also a First (and Third) Person mod already exists. It's called Camera Perspective Change Mod, it's on Nexus. :)
22:00 and you already had 3 references to 3 different silent hills in spawn in like 3 minutes. Hole from SH4, decaying/rotting face from SH3 and Mirror "discussion" from SH2. Lookin good so far
I love this game a lot. I hope you'll like it too. There's a lot of German and some Chinese scattered throughout the game and I'm sure other Germans will comment on the first, so here's what it says at 20:07 for a brief moment in kanji: 犠牲 = sacrifice, victim.
I'm so stoked that you're playing this! This game is very much crafted specifically to my tastes. So it had a very strong impact on me and I think it is quite possibly all timer status for me. Even if you don't go that far, I think you're gonna love it. I'm going to really enjoy hearing your interpretations and reactions It's hard to talk much about story and themes without ruining the magic, but I'd rather not influence what you think anyways. I'm more hoping that I can be influenced by what YOU think of it. You're smarter and more thorough than I am. I'm already really digging the way you're trying to find your foothold and figure out what the story is going to be. I think there is a case to be made that this game is too Derivative of other works. You already have noticed so many call backs and similarities. In a lesser game this would feel super cheap and lazy I think. The execution here is so well done though that I can't help but enjoy that aspect. It's very very clearly inspired by resident evil, silent hill, David lynch, ghost in the shell, and neon genesis. It somehow still feels like more than the sum of its parts. The art and sound design are so excellent that it pulls a lot of weight on its own. I like the amalgamation of different game and art styles spliced together. Isometric Normal gameplay shifting into first person. Anime style art but with a very grounded and gritty world. It all feels like it's using its different elements to amplify the effect of atmosphere and dreamlike logic. Also the fact that the entire game is rendered in 3D but it only looks like 2D pixel art is NUTS Gameplay wise it's very simple and very resident evil. Not that it's a bad thing. Depending on the player, the quality there is really a coin toss. I personally love the inventory management and the backtracking. Some folks not so much. I'm surprised the game commits so hard to it, the 6 item limit is especially unforgiving. Lots of situations where you're weighing your options on what to bring along. The one very clear issue I have is with the button prompts. Finding the right angle to stand to click stuff is pretty tough sometimes. This feels like a minor nitpick until you're using up you're supplies trying to fumble to get a door open. Which happens pretty often for me on console. I suppose there's a level of tension there but it feels cheap. To some extent even the monsters not exactly reseting positions when you leave the room is also problematic. But I don't wanna get too bogged down in that, you will decide for yourself how you feel about it. The game hasn't even gotten to the point where it's going to really have you engrossed yet. Though the opening is outstanding and sets the mood and scene for the entire game so well. Its easy to see the title sequence and know right away if you're on board or not. There's a couple little gameplay tips I could give you but I'll hold off for now as you usually figure it all out yourself. Just takes time to learn the mechanics. I will say though, the stealth is more useful than it would seem. So yeah. Loved this and can't wait for more. You're just gonna make me appreciate it even more and there's so many cool things you're gonna see.
oh my god. i am so glad you are checking out Signalis. so few good lets plays of it out there. main rule of this game imo -- try to read everything (although you already are doing it), because some key story explanations can be missed easily by missing some notes and considering the story itself any missing context will hurt the experience. and yes, its okay to draw silent hill comparisongs, because this is basically a silent hill game but sci fi, with a sprinkle of resident evil
Yay this was a nice surprise! I'm glad you're playing this Mapo. It's one the if not the best survival horror experience I've had recently. I'm looing forward to hearing your thoughts about the story. I hope you enjoy this crazy journey :)
I am so glad you’re playing this so I don’t have to because it looks super interesting, but dammit, I’m so far behind on Mapo videos and this just adds to the pile. Looking forward to watching this in maybe a few weeks or a month 😭
Awesome to see this here, I've been meaning to play it myself! I've only heard great things about it and I wanted to support some local German indie devs for a long time as well :) I'll definitely watch here and play it myself, too! (Death Trash is also on the list once it leaves early access and moves to a full release)
As someone who was never into the survival horror classics like the original Resident Evil 1/2 or any of the Silent Hill games, I was surprised by how compelling the mechanics and super limited inventory system are here. Playing through this experience is something I'll remember for a long long time.
If you enjoyed this I have no idea how you couldn’t enjoy the early SH & RE games. A lot of them even have modern control schemes that lets you skip the tank controls. They’re a masterclass of video games that I’m so glad to see new developers revive with titles like Signalis and Tormented Souls.
Not The King in Yellow! If the game doesn't tell you more about it by the end have a look for the story. It's not copyrighted anymore so don't feel bad about downloading it. I suspect it'll put a big spin on the lore.
That's a cool choice for an LP. A bit weird to play it with a mouse and keyboard though, since the controls are based on old Resident Evil games. But to each their own. ;)
Oh nice, I figured this would be up your alley! Only thing I didn't like about the game was the tiny inventory that makes you have to do waaay too much backtracking, but it's really great overall.
Oh, I tried to play this game recently. This genre is certainly not for me. When I played it, I thought, 'Mapo should love this game.' And what do you know, here you are! I hope you enjoy it. I'll be eagerly watching your playthrough with great curiosity. ❤
Hey Mapo, was wondering if you've ever played the Phoenix Wright games? If you haven't, I think those would make for some pretyy fun playthroughs. I think you'd dig those games.
Holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit I fucking love Signalis You won't understand what's happening half the time but god is it worth trying to It's also worth going back and translating/reading certain frames
1:03:22 I have watched several of Mapo's let's-plays, and by now I'm used to you repeating yourself, for example: "This is what I love about this game" "A couple words" "This is what I love about this game". But this is the first time you interrupted yourself to repeat yourself that I have seen. I am surprised, and I don't mean to sound offensive... Did the brick do that to you?
You must not listen to a lot of people who speak unscripted, is all I can say to that. People who are doing public speaking or interviews very commonly talk like this as their thoughts come to them and tend to repeat certain statements as it’s not pre meditated and common. Weird comment for you to make

@@todeskult2818 No problem :)
the video says its 1 day old, this comment however, is 8 days old.. nice

Would be cool if he did a series on the System Shock remake.
... I've played SS2 and didn't notice that, I was too focused on the 512 at the end since that's a very common arc number in this game.
Its probably both. Iirc Warren Spector claimed it was *just* the office door code but I remember another developer, don't remember exactly who at this point, who said he was wrong and it was an intentional reference.@@-TriP-

To be fair, Gestalt is also an English word (which obviously has its root in the German one, but still), as in Nier: Gestalt, for example.

Synchronizität means synchronicity and please don't stop trying to read german. It's very amusing.
Like others have said, this was GOTY for me and there are almost no LPs of it for some reason. So happy you’re playing it!

Great to see you playing Signalis. I loved the game and it's great to see you enjoying the presentation so far. Looking forward to more episodes
Man I’ve been waiting for one of my favorite let’s players to check this one out. This’ll be fun!
Really cool game, definitely going to have a go at it myself. Can't wait for the rest!
Definitely have a first playthrough by yourself. Absolutely legendary experience.
I JUST saw a video where John Wolfe talked about this game 😂 great timing as always Mapo ❤
best signalis playthrough on yt so far. thank you for this
I love the Angela/Silent Hill 2 reference with Isa Itou.
this is amazing so glad to see you play it
I rewatched that title sequence three times and got goosebumps three times, that piano!
Such a great choice for a new playthrough! I loved this game and I'm sure you'll have a good time with it too.
SUPER COOL!!
This game is more silent hill than the recent silent hill games
Recent Silent Hill sucks. The series has been dead since 4. Some would even say dead since 3 😞
OMG YAS YAS YAS. I just recently mentioned that you might like it and here we gooo! This is gonna be absolutely awesome
I love this game so much, so glad you are playing so many of my favorite games

It is so good to see this game on your channel. I’m very interested in your interpretation of the events. Have fun.
46:50 well it does have 0451 in the middle...
I just finished this a few weeks ago! You’re gonna need a note pad! Brilliant game can’t praise it enough
I love this game so much!
Dope, played this during Christmas last year which was...interesting. Hope you've had some experience playing classic RE.
I have all of RE on the channel lol
"everyone is just looking for someone, you know?" ain't that life
It's so funny to watch your pronunciation as a german xD

Wasn't expecting this to have anything to do with that. East way to get me interested.
Oh as a picky watcher im hapy you play that such a great piece.
That's a cool choice for an LP. A bit weird to play it with a mouse and keyboard though, since the controls are based on old Resident Evil games. But to each their own. ;)
Oh wow, I literally just finished this game last week! should be a good one!
Hell yeah! I knew you were gonna play it someday

That blue screen was interesting I wonder if that room and the ship etc was real or a memory or something very odd 🤔
I‘m really looking forward to this. This game broke me. The ending, dude…. The ending….
1:47:50 You figured out most of these pretty quickly. You should do well in this game.
i thought this might be a short game but gdamn the six parts are like 2 hours per vid heh
LET'S GOOO great fucking game
No way that you just started this 😅🥹 I literally just started playing this game a week ago and it is FANTASTIC. This is going to be a blast.
Feet fetish NOT ALLOWED HERE
Holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit
I fucking love Signalis
You won't understand what's happening half the time but god is it worth trying to
It's also worth going back and translating/reading certain frames
Does this play normal on controller like a regular 3rd person shooter, or does this have tank controls
ngl the replica body suits you xD
Are you gonna play new Amnesia?
1:03:22 I have watched several of Mapo's let's-plays, and by now I'm used to you repeating yourself, for example:
