    Great video! I would like to make a suggestion, a lot of people are not familiar with Excel and don't know that they don't need to type every number. You only need to type two numbers and then select the two cells and drag down. For example type 1, 2, select the cells then draw down. The following numbers will automatically be entered on the following cells. Excel is a great tool. You can find some great Excel for beginners videos on UA-cam.

    When I restarted selling on ebay and really increased my inventory I was trying to figure out where to store my merchandise. First I emptied my basement and set that up. I soon ran out of space and did not want to rent a storage unit. I also did not want to expand my business into my house. I do not have a garage so I got a huge, and I mean huge metal shed from Amazon. Everything is nice and neat stored in it from new merchandise to shelves. If anyone is thinking of doing this with a shed, you need to understand any shed, especially a metal shed will get condensation and humidity will be your enimy unless you live in a very dry climate. I set up a huge dehumidifier and run it to keep the moisture levels low. A shed was a better solution for me since the cost of renting a storage unit and the time wasted driving to get to it was not worth it. I use the same uline boxes. The key to anything is to be as efficient as possible. I even hired my young son and pay him. It helps when it comes to paying my taxes and it helps him with extra money in his pocket.

      That is a great real world story Vinnie!
      I live in Texas and a metal should would be an oven without the right equipment to make is somewhat conditioned.
      I like how you thought outside of the box to keep cost low and continue growing your business.
      I would also consider hiring my son to help but he far to young at this time.
      Thanks for your comment.

    Thank you so much for making this video. I’ve been using a bin system, and it kind of works, but if I mislabel one it can take 30 minutes to look through 3k listing. I’m implementing this inventory system now. I will (SLOWLY) integrate my bins into the sequential numbering. I appreciate you very much!

    I'm not sure whether you use a Dymo Printer for your labels - if so, you can make printing the numbers much easier. With the software that comes with all Dymo printers you can set up your label using a counter - just set up one label, than add the counter. By using the preferences for the counter you can set the starting number. Then just print for example 100 copies of your label - it will start with 1 and end with 100.
    Edit: I've just seen that you don't use a Dymo but a Rollo 🙃. But for anybody using a Dymo this might be helpful anyway. 😉

    • @TaylorExchange

    thank you so much for this video and for the amount of verbal descriptions you give of what you are doing. It truly helps this blind reseller. Right now I have my inventory in large black totes and it is a pain in the butt when pulling orders. On the flip side I get my regular exercise lol. I am going to be switching to this system shortly. What kind of bags do you store your inventory in? I use clear bread bags from Wal-mart and tape it closed around the product.

    I sell hard goods, so I'm really struggling to store items. Currently they are just piled in my 3rd bedroom and I have no inventory system. Trying to keep 3 platforms going from memory is getting hard (only 100 listings). When something sells, I just run delete it off the others, but I guess i forgot and double sold two items on Mercari last week!

    When you’re taking pictures of a lot of items, how do you remember which item goes with which sku? Like if I took pictures of 30 pairs of jeans in a row, what’s your system for remembering which sku went with each pair of jeans? Do you just stack them in order according to your photos so you know the next set of photos is going to the proper sku?
    I just feel like when I’m listing, I would have a hard time keeping track and making sure I’m putting the proper sku on the listing

    Avery has templates and instructions if you use their products. If you know someone who has or is currently working as an administrative assistant they can probably help you. Especially if older. Then you can print on regular printer if you don't have a Rollo. Or your office person can do in 5 minutes. In the old days Mail merge was part of the advanced Microsoft testing. It's not intuitive. Find someone to help you. Just my opinion. I see boxes of those Avery labels in goodwill all the time.

    Your Thermal Printer Software should have a "counter" feature you can just drop in to your label and start and stop whenever you want. My dymo software "remembers" the last labels printed through the software. Would be happy to shoot a quick video. Takes me a few seconds to print labels. Hope this make sense!

    Good system!! This may be a stupid question! But when an item sells how do you know which box to grab? I’m assuming you just look at the boxes first few numbered bags and figure it out? I use boxes with specific numbers inside.

    • @TaylorExchange
      @TaylorExchange  Рік тому +1

      Hey Kristina, not a stupid question at all.
      I have a general idea of what each section has, first one is 0-6k and so on. I suppose it's like looking up books in a library.
      So the numbers I'm looking for is 5465 and the front item in a box is 5398 its a good chance it's in that box. If it's a bigger gap just look at the front item of the box to the right to see if it's under or over 5465!

  • @dwfinds3030
    @dwfinds3030 Рік тому +1

    Odd question but are you a lefty? I do my boxes similar but I figured most people would grab with their right and load them in the back of the box. Very interesting video, I've been stuck between totes and this system. Number system I find faster but it also takes me longer to bag and number, organize, etc. If something doesn't sell for awhile just sit there and invested time into it. Totes I just fill and find it when or if it sells. Suppose it all comes down to sell through. Only year in about 1300 items, definitely still learning.

    This was really helpful Sean, you are really starting to rack up the views and likes! What shelving system do you use? I like how tall they are, I haven't been able to find anything like that. Can you give a link?

      I bought the husky 4 tier rack and added an additional shelf.
      They changed the name to Gladiator.
      I found this link.

    your videos are very helpful as always. A quick remark? i noticed you dont seal/ tape up your clear bags. is that something you do when before you ship them when they are sold or you dont tape them up at all ?

    • @TaylorExchange
      @TaylorExchange  Рік тому

      Hi Moorish Warrior,
      I don't seal them up.
      After the 2nd time if that strip of plastic sticking to my hand I stopped sealing them. Only time I do is if the buyer mentions waterproof in that case I do and I tape over the seal of the poly mailer.

I am thankful for the work Chris and Tech have done but I just watched a lot of the videos Chris posted along with the first part of the podcast they release to UA-cam. I mainly consumed that content during 2021 and the first part of 2022. Now I focus on some other content.

      @@washurbuttsoap For sure, so I use a separate checking account and credit card for the cost of goods and payouts. If I go to a garage sale the money I pull out is for cost of goods and if I don’t spend it all I set it aside for the next sale.
