To be honest, I just recently in the past year starting watching this content. I am so obsessed with tractors, grading, gravel driveways, dirt work, etc. it has been great to learn and watch the experts, I didnt realize so much goes into this work. I love it.

If so you should get out there and do some of your own yard work to see if you enjoy it.. it seems like you would and I bet you’d be really good at it too because you have a high level of interest in it. Whenever I have a high level of interest in something I have found that I’m also really good at doing it and/or learning it.. I have learned over all the years that when I have a great interest in something that I learn it very rapidly and that it doesn’t feel like work because I enjoy it.. it’s the best of both worlds. You should keep an eye on Facebook marketplace place.. there’s often really nice tractors on there for good prices.. around here you can sometimes find my exact same tractor and loader for around 7k. It may not be in as nice of shape or may be a tad older than mine but heck for 7k it will do a TON of work and make you a TON of money.. plus the enjoyment you’ll get out of it to boot!

Way long ago before I got my tractor I use to watch videos just like these and I was fascinated just like you.. and impressed with the amount of work that could be accomplished in such a short time.. i liked it so much that I just had to get some equipment myself and try it out (although I already enjoyed working outside) but still.. I’d be lying if I said videos like these didn’t impact me to buy equipment and get more into this line of work.. before this I was an automotive mechanic.

Just recently bought an acreage and tractor and have been watching everything tractor on UA-cam for two months. This is easily and by far the best tractor video I’ve seen yet, music and cinematography top notch thanks very much.

Just keep at it, don’t be afraid to try new things and def don’t be afraid to watch others work as see their techniques as all of this will help you grow. You’ll have to let me know how your garden comes out, sounds like the ground may have been pretty dry/hard which can make it a bit difficult but too wet and it also makes it beer difficult so you really want the ground dry but moist on the surface and that will give you the best results. Biff i recently found your channel and subscribed. I have to say you have one of the best tractor channels on UA-cam. I own a small ranch in AZ. And I’m shopping for my first tractor, I’m trying to decide brand and size. Your channel has helped more than every other channel. You don’t talk about the specs of the tractor or all the available attachments. You just show us what these compact tractors can do. I was worried a compact tractor wouldn’t be enough for what I wanted to do, but after watching your videos and seeing what these little tractors are capable of. I’m sold on a compact tractor. Great videos, keep up the good work.

Your right, I’m glad you realize how tough it is to spread and grade when it’s so wet like that, I was doing my best to spread the topsoil and not drive over it as I was spreading it which was why I was driving around the piles so many times avoiding going over the middle haha. Was a bit of a challenge cuz as soon as I drove over it the topsoil would clump and would no longer spread.. I hate spreading wet/heavy topsoil but it all worked out in the end. Thanks for watching!

Thanks Jeff! It’s like anything else.. once you do it enough times it becomes muscle memory and second nature! It only takes me about a minute to remove the loader and maybe 2 tops to install it.

I had a grader box but sold it because it was a 5’ I need to find a 4’er but just havnt got one yet.. the 5’er was just a touch too big and awkward on the back of the bx. Hi Mike .What was that you were greasing by the brake hold down lever, My 23 s doesn't have that ??? is that for the foot pedal ??? Nice job for as wet as it was........
Hey Gary, what I was greasing was the pivot point on the treadle pedal not the brake pedal.. you def have this same grease fitting so be sure not to forget about it, my floor mat is from a Bx80 series so I know you also have it, look for the small tab in the rubber Mat and lift it and under it you’ll find a grease fitting for the pedal.. you may have to clean it out with a screw driver to actually see the grease zerk like I did as it often gets buried in debris. This is a fitting many guys forget about and keeping it greased will keep your forward and backward movement of your pedal smooth and tight. Lmk if you can’t find it. Awesome knowing the BX can handle this kind of work. I have a kart track that's way too bumpy and I figured it would take a box scraper to level it out but looks like with some skill you can do it with the loader. Now I just need to buy a BX...
Takes a bit of practice but it’s deffinelty doable! I felt in this situation the loader worked better because some of the bumps and humps were like 2’ high.. that woulda taken me forever to knock down with a grader box plus being so muddy it woulda never spread the material well so I feel the loader was the best choice on thus given day but had it dried up it a bit before I came it woulda been better. the mower linkage can easily be push up while turning the height knob to TOP. save you a couple min to start back up and crounch down again to remove the pto shaft ;)
To be honest I just leave the tractor running and don’t shut it off at all when I install or remove the deck but I knew if I did that on video guys would freak about it being unsafe which I realize so I shut it off this time. Plus I’d rather have the tractor do the work instead of tryin to push the linkages up by hand, sometimes the linkage grabs or rubs against the mower deck too and gets pinched so I feel it’s always easier to just let the tractor do it but thanks for letting guys know!
@@BiffsEquipment totally understand.. I always put and remove my mower in my garage(concrete floor is way easier) so I don't want the fume ..so I keep it off..hehe

Thanks Mike! Yes of course it would have enough power! The thing with a smaller/lower HP tractor is that jobs like this just take more time. A sub compact tractor can do almost any job a larger farm tractor can do.. only it takes more time. So if your patient and have the time you will 100% be able to do this with your BX2200! I'm new to having acreage. I didn't know you could grade like that with such a small tractor and bucket. I'm on clay...I wonder if this would work well on clay soil too? Would love to avoid giant machinery
This tractor does an excellent job grading.. though it takes time to be able to learn how to grade good on different material types. It can do this with clay too so long as it’s not the dead of summer when the ground is like a rock. depending on how much land you have you may want to step up to a “b series” Kubota like the b2601.. but if you want a Kubota bx then thag should do the job too.. size your tractor for your acreage. A Kubota bx is good for 2-4 acres.. a b2601 would be good for 5-8 and anymore than 10 and you’ll want to step up to an L or LX series. Best of luck!
Thanks Michael! As for my skidsteer I ended up trading a commercial scag zero turn for that skidsteer, the skidsteer needed a lot of work .. I then fixed the skidsteer up and traded it for my cummins pickup truck! So with out that skidsteer I woulda never had my Cummins work truck.. otherwise I woulda loved to keep it!
I always wanted to build my own tooth bar also so lmk if you do how it turns out! As for this particular job I don’t think a tooth bar woulda been any help aside from digging out some of the stumps/roots I had to dig up because since the ground was so wet the tooth bar woulda only made the bucket harder to control as it woulda wanted to make it sink down into the ground more than it already was. Where a tooth bar really shines is when stripping or digging in hard/dry or rocky ground.. it allows you to break the surface much easier with less effort being put on the machine.. in soft ground like this it would have the opposite affect tho, making it sink more and dig up more than you’d want. Wow! And I was wondering if a John Deere 3039R with a bucket would be able to do any type of land stripping and grading. Now I'm wondering if it might be too much tractor. lol
Thanks Steven, as for the grader box in this situation, being that the ground was still so wet the grader box woilda never been able to spread the material out well.. it coulda cut and knocked down the high spots but then I woulda been left with thick clumps of mud getting stuck in the grader box and not being able to slowly disperse them. Also some of the humps were 2’ high it was really rough so I felt the loader woulda still worked better but had things been dryer I think the grader box coulda given it a run for it’s money if I removed all the large rocks/stumps first possibly
I like my loader as much as the next guy but I would have done all of this with my box blade rather than loader (60"bb, 48" fel bucket) or even regular rear blade if i didn't have a box blade. But, I would still say this is a lesson in not thinking that you can't or shouldn't do any kind of grading/scraping work with FEL. It certainly can be done. I'm sure plenty of skilled skid steer operators have no interest in having a 3pt, but for this I would have been happy letting my 3pt stuff drag along vs relatively micromanaging my loader. My .02.
I’m with you there.. I didn’t realize when I came on this job just how much work he wanted done.. had I known it was this large of an area I woulda brought a back blade or grader box with me.. at least for the very end where I had to spread 20 ton of stone in that corner, it certainly woulda been faster tho it wouldn’t have been as precise. I agree if the tractor was larger or if it was a skidsteer/skid loader I’d much rather use the loader/bucket on that then this small 48” bucket.. not only would I have been able to move material faster but the skid loaders grade even better as well as they are wider, heavier, and do a better job staying flatter. Thanks but the tractor isn’t a toy, hence all the work and monster jobs for its size it’s completed over the last 3+ years of my UA-cam channel. If it was a toy it either woulda struggled to get any of the work done or woulda broke down long ago from all the abuse.. it’s never once not completed a job for me and rarely struggles
I don’t know how you skim the surface so cleanly? I’m a BX tractor owner with a whooping 15 hours and I’ve tried to do what you do and best I can do is scallop the ground in waves. We have had so much rain I can’t get out a practice. Do you use the float feature? Once the rain lets up and things dry out, I’ll be out trying again. I have a yard and driveway to put in. Thanks Scott I really appreciate it. Below I’m gonna link a video that I did a year or so ago that got a ton of views because people have told me how much this video has helped teach them about grading and stripping with a bucket.. so I think you both should check it out and it may help. For practicing make sure you do it when the ground is mostly dry but still contains a bit of moisture.. too wet and it makes the bucket want to sink easily which makes you have to constantly adjust.. too firm/dry and it can be hard to even get a good start. Also always be sure to have your tractor on a level surface, if one side of your tractor goes over a bump then one side of your your cutting edge will follow leaving you with a terrible grade.. if everything is bumpy then do your best to get one small section or bucket width flat and graded.. once your have a section that’s flat and level that you stripped always keep your tractor on that path and use the debth you stated wirh as a guide to continue working out word from there.. always get your first cut done at the depth you want and use it as a template to follow and this keeps your entire grade level and clean and the same. Do you use low speed for this or low range or whatever it’s called bro?? I just got a 1710gc Massey and need to do this exact same thing to make a garden . I am nervous about damaging the machine though
If you’re digging fresh ground or scraping fresh sod you should always try to be in low gear. You will be able to tell when you should be in low gear because in high gear you will have very limited power and will notice you’ll have to push the hydrostatic pedal quite hard with your foot. This tells you the tractor is struggling and to move the range selector into low gear and then you’ll notice how much easier the tractor pushes and how much less pressure you need to apply to the hydrostatic pedal. You really won’t hurt it if you start in high gear but it shouldn’t become a habit as many years of over loading your tractor in high gear can eventually wear out the transmission. Whenever I do any type of land clearing or heavy digging I always keep my machine in low gear.. if I’m doing light digging or grading work then I will often just leave it in high gear. Dang son! I've had my tractor for a year and I'm still trying to figure out how to know when my bucket is flat. I tried leveling a small bit of ground just for a test. When I was done, it was bumpier than it was when I started. Can you telepathically send me some of your skills? I sure need them! My entire lawn (3-acres) needs to be leveled. Ahhhhh! I'm actually thinking about cheating and putting a backup camera aimed at the bottom of the bucket so I can see where it's at!
Haha thanks buddy! Yah it deffinelty takes time, I have a lot of hours in the seat both on my own tractor as well as others.. you’ll get there tho as practice makes perfect! Have you thought about buying or building your own “loader level indicator”? A level indicator is a must have for anyone new to tractors or even if you have a machine that’s new to you as every machine is slightly different. A loader level indicator for the BX is only about $70 from Kubota and it’s VERY easy to install. Infact I have a video where I talk about my level indicator and show how it bolts on tho I no longer use it even tho I still have it on my loader.. I’d say I used it for the first month I had my tractor but after that I no longer needed it since it showed me where level was I got the hang of it with out when looking at it after awhile which is a good thing. I have a new video coming out tonight at 9pm you should watch it as I think you could get a lot from it! Keep me posted on how you make out! 👍🏻
Hi, I know this is a beat to death question, but do you ever regret not getting a B series over the BX kubota? I want to get one.. my head wants the B series for more versatility but in my current situation, a BX would likely be more practical. I do hope to pick up some odd jobs on the side like this one and also get a stump grinder for the 3 point. Thanks. Loved the video too.
So as far as regrets go.. I have ZERO regrets with my Bx.. I almost NEVER find a job that my Bx can’t do or can’t handle and say “darn I wish I had a B series” because my Bx always gets the job done and it’s thr perfect size for about 80% or more of my jobs.. although the bigger jobs may take a bit longer it will always get them done. If you’re doing a lot of bigger jobs and you need to be as efficient as possible and don’t mind the added weight of the b series in the spring and fall when the ground is soft.. and don’t have tight areas to work in then a b series would be great.. otherwise a Bx would suit you well too. I do however wish I had a b series or lx series to go along WITH my bx series.. as I feel that would be the ultimate setup.. having the larger tractor for the occasional big job but still having my small bx for smaller jobs and jobs where it may be too wet or soft where I don’t want to leave ruts.

A land plane would be the ticket for this job. I normally rototill everything, then use the box blade and landplane. On this job I would have used the landscape rake first to clear the debris, then till. He's hauling away a lot of dirt for no reason.
I get where your coming from but you gotta remember how muddy it was, no land plane or grader box woulda spread that muddy soil around and been able to slowly disperse it evenly or at all.. most the mud woulda just got clumped up and stuck on the cutting edges of the land plane or stuck inside the grader box.. also there were a ton of large rocks, debris, and stumps mixed in as well, and the soil wasn’t good soil that’s why he wants to top it with some nice topsoil so he can actually get some nice grass to grow. I agree if the ground were dryer, and I removed all the stumps, and big rocks first then the grader box or land plane coulda done a great job.. but there were also some huge humps that were 2’ high which were hard to see on video .. these woilda taken Quite a few passes to cut down with a grader box or a land plane. Lastly I’ll say I didn’t realize how large this area was before I started this job.. I was under the impression it was a smaller area and didn’t realize how muddy it would be.
Also with a tiller I woulda been hitting all kinds of stuff, lots of big rocks and smaller stumps with many roots that were buried under the soil.. the tiller woilda been bouncing all over the place plus being how wet it was.. you can’t till mud lol
Front end is totally stock.. never added wheel spacers to it because on the front they have much less affect than on the rear. I only have 2” spacers on the rear. They are fantastic! One of my number 1 upgrades I recommend. I plan to do a video this weekend on all the upgrades I did to my tractor and why so stay tuned!
Isn't the Kubota too heavy for a single-axel trailer? The reason I'm asking is that I bought a New single-axel PJ trailer 14X6.5 with a max weight load of 1550 lbs. I believe my Kubota BX2370 with the front bucket weighs 2300 lbs. I would love to use the single axel trailer for the Kubota if I knew it wouldn't bend the axles.
Hey I’m sorry I am just now seeing your comment! So it depends.. some single axle trailers are light duty and can only handle 1200-2200lbs.. I’d thays the case then I’d say you should find a larger one.. you want to check the axle diameter under the trailer, measure it and then look up on Google what the load rating is for an axle of that diameter.. for instance my axle was a he ag dirt axle capable of holding over 3300lbs.. because of this I knew that just my tractor and loader would be ok.. so long as I didn’t add much more than that.. but that being said I still didn’t like to take it on far trips.. I would stay around town or around my area.. never hauling it farther than a 40 minute trip and would never go above 60mph with it. You just have to be cautious but first make sure your axle can handle it.. a lot of people I see online use a single axle trailer just fine.. I personally would recommend a tandem axle as it will remove all worry. I now use a tandem axle and am not afraid to go over 60mph or travel long distances.. if you watch my newer videos you’ll see the trailer I use now. Keep an eye on Facebook marketplace .. I often see nice tandem axle trailers where I live selling for around $1,500-$2,800 which is a decent price depending on the size. Good luck buddy!

A tooth bar would surely work better on tough driveways that are packed in tight but a toothbar will also limit your abilities to back drag how you want which is the ONLY reason I don’t run one. Ideally it would be best to have 2 buckets, one with a toothbar and one with a flat factory edge. Thanks for the question!
@@BiffsEquipmentRe: Toothbar. I have the BXPanded tooth bar and it makes a huge difference in breaker out of a dirt pile, etc. if I were to buy again, I’d go with the Ai2 reversible tooth bar: Just leave the center bucket bolt in, remove the other bolts and spin the bar 180°.

Hey Mike, great question.. in this situation a tooth bar would not have helped.. the ground was so soft that the tooth bar woulda only made the bucket sink in more and be harder to control.. tooth bars shine the most when the ground is really rocky, or very hard like it is mid summer when things are super dry.. that’s when you’d wanna use a tooth bar the most .. Yes you could have done this with a box blade as well but would have had a lot less control in doing so. I like using the FEL because I can strip off the exact amount I wanted to. Because the Kubota bx uses a quarter-inching valve vs a true 3-point selection valve it makes it a bit more difficult to use with rear implements in certain jobs that take a lot of percussion because you can not set your depth and leave it there as the valve will constantly have to be adjusted up and down through out the grading process.. this is another reason why I like using my FEL.. plus I’m very confident in using it which helps haha.
Hey Stephan, no unfortunately I never bought the skid plate From BXPanded. I always wanted to tho.. the BX has a factory skid plate to cover the HST fan but it’s very small and undersized.. but that being said Iv never had any issues with all the acres of land Iv cleared with my bx. Are your tires loaded? I see that nice set of weights on the back. I couldn't believe the difference fluid made in my b2601 especially when using the box blade. Just found your channel, subbed.
Hey thanks for the sub and Welcome to the channel! As for my rear tires I do have them loaded with beat juice.. it was the first thing I did when I purchased the loader for my tractor.. Your correct having proper ballast makes night and day difference with a tractors performance, often these small tractors have way more power than you can put to the ground so the more ballast you can add to them the more powerful and productive they become. I made a few videos last year when I added even more rear suitcase weights to the rear of my tractor and explained at the end of the video just how big of a difference it made going from 4x 42lb weights to 8x 42lb weights.. the 4 weighs I added were those 4 John Deere weights. I think In the video I was digging up huge stumps.. Thanks man! As for the deck I have, I like it better than the drive over but I have never personally owned the drive over. The drive over has more parts that can wear out, more parts to mess around with and adjust/maintain.. and no drive over deck ever worked perfectly.. for me I go with the simpler regular deck option because I can install and remove the deck in just 5 minutes time or less.. I can pretty easily drag the deck out from the mower or just as easily push it back under with out even turning the guide wheels like a lot of guys do.. I don’t bother turning the guide wheels cuz for me it’s just a waste of time.. long as your not in the mud or on soft ground the deck slides really pretty effortlessly. Hope this helps 👍🏻

Iv been using the same style music .. many the same exact tracks since I only had 200 subscribers.. I now have over 6k.. I get not everyone is gonna like the music type but most do. Country music/slow music does not go well with tome lapse videos IMHO… I mainly stick with rock/modern tech type of music because of this. Thanks for watching anyways tho guys 👍🏻
To be honest, I just recently in the past year starting watching this content. I am so obsessed with tractors, grading, gravel driveways, dirt work, etc. it has been great to learn and watch the experts, I didnt realize so much goes into this work. I love it.

If so you should get out there and do some of your own yard work to see if you enjoy it.. it seems like you would and I bet you’d be really good at it too because you have a high level of interest in it. Whenever I have a high level of interest in something I have found that I’m also really good at doing it and/or learning it.. I have learned over all the years that when I have a great interest in something that I learn it very rapidly and that it doesn’t feel like work because I enjoy it.. it’s the best of both worlds. You should keep an eye on Facebook marketplace place.. there’s often really nice tractors on there for good prices.. around here you can sometimes find my exact same tractor and loader for around 7k. It may not be in as nice of shape or may be a tad older than mine but heck for 7k it will do a TON of work and make you a TON of money.. plus the enjoyment you’ll get out of it to boot!

Way long ago before I got my tractor I use to watch videos just like these and I was fascinated just like you.. and impressed with the amount of work that could be accomplished in such a short time.. i liked it so much that I just had to get some equipment myself and try it out (although I already enjoyed working outside) but still.. I’d be lying if I said videos like these didn’t impact me to buy equipment and get more into this line of work.. before this I was an automotive mechanic.

Biff man, I can’t get over how easy you make this stuff look. Today I tried dozing/digging topsoil for a garden (late, I know, just moved) and it was pretty tough! Loving your content; it’s helping me build a little confidence with my own bx2380.

Just keep at it, don’t be afraid to try new things and def don’t be afraid to watch others work as see their techniques as all of this will help you grow. You’ll have to let me know how your garden comes out, sounds like the ground may have been pretty dry/hard which can make it a bit difficult but too wet and it also makes it beer difficult so you really want the ground dry but moist on the surface and that will give you the best results.

Biff i recently found your channel and subscribed. I have to say you have one of the best tractor channels on UA-cam. I own a small ranch in AZ. And I’m shopping for my first tractor, I’m trying to decide brand and size. Your channel has helped more than every other channel. You don’t talk about the specs of the tractor or all the available attachments. You just show us what these compact tractors can do. I was worried a compact tractor wouldn’t be enough for what I wanted to do, but after watching your videos and seeing what these little tractors are capable of. I’m sold on a compact tractor. Your right, I’m glad you realize how tough it is to spread and grade when it’s so wet like that, I was doing my best to spread the topsoil and not drive over it as I was spreading it which was why I was driving around the piles so many times avoiding going over the middle haha. Was a bit of a challenge cuz as soon as I drove over it the topsoil would clump and would no longer spread.. I hate spreading wet/heavy topsoil but it all worked out in the end. Thanks for watching!

Hi Mike .What was that you were greasing by the brake hold down lever, My 23 s doesn't have that ??? is that for the foot pedal ??? Nice job for as wet as it was........
Hey Gary, what I was greasing was the pivot point on the treadle pedal not the brake pedal.. you def have this same grease fitting so be sure not to forget about it, my floor mat is from a Bx80 series so I know you also have it, look for the small tab in the rubber Mat and lift it and under it you’ll find a grease fitting for the pedal.. you may have to clean it out with a screw driver to actually see the grease zerk like I did as it often gets buried in debris. This is a fitting many guys forget about and keeping it greased will keep your forward and backward movement of your pedal smooth and tight. Lmk if you can’t find it. Thanks for watching, it was def a bit of a challenge being so darn wet but it all worked out in the end!

Awesome knowing the BX can handle this kind of work. I have a kart track that's way too bumpy and I figured it would take a box scraper to level it out but looks like with some skill you can do it with the loader. Now I just need to buy a BX...
Takes a bit of practice but it’s deffinelty doable! I felt in this situation the loader worked better because some of the bumps and humps were like 2’ high.. that woulda taken me forever to knock down with a grader box plus being so muddy it woulda never spread the material well so I feel the loader was the best choice on thus given day but had it dried up it a bit before I came it woulda been better. the mower linkage can easily be push up while turning the height knob to TOP. save you a couple min to start back up and crounch down again to remove the pto shaft ;)
To be honest I just leave the tractor running and don’t shut it off at all when I install or remove the deck but I knew if I did that on video guys would freak about it being unsafe which I realize so I shut it off this time. Plus I’d rather have the tractor do the work instead of tryin to push the linkages up by hand, sometimes the linkage grabs or rubs against the mower deck too and gets pinched so I feel it’s always easier to just let the tractor do it but thanks for letting guys know!

Thanks Mike! Yes of course it would have enough power! The thing with a smaller/lower HP tractor is that jobs like this just take more time. A sub compact tractor can do almost any job a larger farm tractor can do.. only it takes more time. So if your patient and have the time you will 100% be able to do this with your BX2200! I'm new to having acreage. I didn't know you could grade like that with such a small tractor and bucket. I'm on clay...I wonder if this would work well on clay soil too? Would love to avoid giant machinery
This tractor does an excellent job grading.. though it takes time to be able to learn how to grade good on different material types. It can do this with clay too so long as it’s not the dead of summer when the ground is like a rock. depending on how much land you have you may want to step up to a “b series” Kubota like the b2601.. but if you want a Kubota bx then thag should do the job too.. size your tractor for your acreage. A Kubota bx is good for 2-4 acres.. a b2601 would be good for 5-8 and anymore than 10 and you’ll want to step up to an L or LX series. Best of luck!

Thanks Michael! As for my skidsteer I ended up trading a commercial scag zero turn for that skidsteer, the skidsteer needed a lot of work .. I then fixed the skidsteer up and traded it for my cummins pickup truck! So with out that skidsteer I woulda never had my Cummins work truck.. otherwise I woulda loved to keep it!

I always wanted to build my own tooth bar also so lmk if you do how it turns out! As for this particular job I don’t think a tooth bar woulda been any help aside from digging out some of the stumps/roots I had to dig up because since the ground was so wet the tooth bar woulda only made the bucket harder to control as it woulda wanted to make it sink down into the ground more than it already was. Where a tooth bar really shines is when stripping or digging in hard/dry or rocky ground.. it allows you to break the surface much easier with less effort being put on the machine.. in soft ground like this it would have the opposite affect tho, making it sink more and dig up more than you’d want. Thanks Steven, as for the grader box in this situation, being that the ground was still so wet the grader box woilda never been able to spread the material out well.. it coulda cut and knocked down the high spots but then I woulda been left with thick clumps of mud getting stuck in the grader box and not being able to slowly disperse them. Also some of the humps were 2’ high it was really rough so I felt the loader woulda still worked better but had things been dryer I think the grader box coulda given it a run for it’s money if I removed all the large rocks/stumps first possibly
I like my loader as much as the next guy but I would have done all of this with my box blade rather than loader (60"bb, 48" fel bucket) or even regular rear blade if i didn't have a box blade. But, I would still say this is a lesson in not thinking that you can't or shouldn't do any kind of grading/scraping work with FEL. It certainly can be done. I'm sure plenty of skilled skid steer operators have no interest in having a 3pt, but for this I would have been happy letting my 3pt stuff drag along vs relatively micromanaging my loader. My .02.
I’m with you there.. I didn’t realize when I came on this job just how much work he wanted done.. had I known it was this large of an area I woulda brought a back blade or grader box with me.. at least for the very end where I had to spread 20 ton of stone in that corner, it certainly woulda been faster tho it wouldn’t have been as precise. I agree if the tractor was larger or if it was a skidsteer/skid loader I’d much rather use the loader/bucket on that then this small 48” bucket.. not only would I have been able to move material faster but the skid loaders grade even better as well as they are wider, heavier, and do a better job staying flatter. Thanks but the tractor isn’t a toy, hence all the work and monster jobs for its size it’s completed over the last 3+ years of my UA-cam channel. If it was a toy it either woulda struggled to get any of the work done or woulda broke down long ago from all the abuse.. it’s never once not completed a job for me and rarely struggles

I don’t know how you skim the surface so cleanly? I’m a BX tractor owner with a whooping 15 hours and I’ve tried to do what you do and best I can do is scallop the ground in waves. We have had so much rain I can’t get out a practice. Do you use the float feature? Once the rain lets up and things dry out, I’ll be out trying again. I have a yard and driveway to put in. Thanks for your video, it teaches me what experience and a sub compact can do.

Below I’m gonna link a video that I did a year or so ago that got a ton of views because people have told me how much this video has helped teach them about grading and stripping with a bucket.. so I think you both should check it out and it may help. For practicing make sure you do it when the ground is mostly dry but still contains a bit of moisture.. too wet and it makes the bucket want to sink easily which makes you have to constantly adjust.. too firm/dry and it can be hard to even get a good start. Also always be sure to have your tractor on a level surface, if one side of your tractor goes over a bump then one side of your your cutting edge will follow leaving you with a terrible grade.. if everything is bumpy then do your best to get one small section or bucket width flat and graded.. once your have a section that’s flat and level that you stripped always keep your tractor on that path and use the debth you stated wirh as a guide to continue working out word from there.. always get your first cut done at the depth you want and use it as a template to follow and this keeps your entire grade level and clean and the same. Hope this helps!

Do you use low speed for this or low range or whatever it’s called bro?? I just got a 1710gc Massey and need to do this exact same thing to make a garden . I am nervous about damaging the machine though
If you’re digging fresh ground or scraping fresh sod you should always try to be in low gear. You will be able to tell when you should be in low gear because in high gear you will have very limited power and will notice you’ll have to push the hydrostatic pedal quite hard with your foot. This tells you the tractor is struggling and to move the range selector into low gear and then you’ll notice how much easier the tractor pushes and how much less pressure you need to apply to the hydrostatic pedal.
You really won’t hurt it if you start in high gear but it shouldn’t become a habit as many years of over loading your tractor in high gear can eventually wear out the transmission. Whenever I do any type of land clearing or heavy digging I always keep my machine in low gear.. if I’m doing light digging or grading work then I will often just leave it in high gear.

Dang son! I've had my tractor for a year and I'm still trying to figure out how to know when my bucket is flat. I tried leveling a small bit of ground just for a test. When I was done, it was bumpier than it was when I started. Can you telepathically send me some of your skills? I sure need them! My entire lawn (3-acres) needs to be leveled. Ahhhhh! I'm actually thinking about cheating and putting a backup camera aimed at the bottom of the bucket so I can see where it's at!
Haha thanks buddy! Yah it deffinelty takes time, I have a lot of hours in the seat both on my own tractor as well as others.. you’ll get there tho as practice makes perfect! Have you thought about buying or building your own “loader level indicator”? A level indicator is a must have for anyone new to tractors or even if you have a machine that’s new to you as every machine is slightly different. A loader level indicator for the BX is only about $70 from Kubota and it’s VERY easy to install. Infact I have a video where I talk about my level indicator and show how it bolts on tho I no longer use it even tho I still have it on my loader.. I’d say I used it for the first month I had my tractor but after that I no longer needed it since it showed me where level was I got the hang of it with out when looking at it after awhile which is a good thing.

Hi, I know this is a beat to death question, but do you ever regret not getting a B series over the BX kubota? I want to get one.. my head wants the B series for more versatility but in my current situation, a BX would likely be more practical. I do hope to pick up some odd jobs on the side like this one and also get a stump grinder for the 3 point.

So as far as regrets go.. I have ZERO regrets with my Bx.. I almost NEVER find a job that my Bx can’t do or can’t handle and say “darn I wish I had a B series” because my Bx always gets the job done and it’s thr perfect size for about 80% or more of my jobs.. although the bigger jobs may take a bit longer it will always get them done.
If you’re doing a lot of bigger jobs and you need to be as efficient as possible and don’t mind the added weight of the b series in the spring and fall when the ground is soft.. and don’t have tight areas to work in then a b series would be great.. otherwise a Bx would suit you well too.
I do however wish I had a b series or lx series to go along WITH my bx series.. as I feel that would be the ultimate setup.. having the larger tractor for the occasional big job but still having my small bx for smaller jobs and jobs where it may be too wet or soft where I don’t want to leave ruts.

A land plane would be the ticket for this job. I normally rototill everything, then use the box blade and landplane. On this job I would have used the landscape rake first to clear the debris, then till. He's hauling away a lot of dirt for no reason.
I get where your coming from but you gotta remember how muddy it was, no land plane or grader box woulda spread that muddy soil around and been able to slowly disperse it evenly or at all.. most the mud woulda just got clumped up and stuck on the cutting edges of the land plane or stuck inside the grader box.. also there were a ton of large rocks, debris, and stumps mixed in as well, and the soil wasn’t good soil that’s why he wants to top it with some nice topsoil so he can actually get some nice grass to grow. I agree if the ground were dryer, and I removed all the stumps, and big rocks first then the grader box or land plane coulda done a great job.. but there were also some huge humps that were 2’ high which were hard to see on video .. these woilda taken Quite a few passes to cut down with a grader box or a land plane. Lastly I’ll say I didn’t realize how large this area was before I started this job.. I was under the impression it was a smaller area and didn’t realize how muddy it would be.
Also with a tiller I woulda been hitting all kinds of stuff, lots of big rocks and smaller stumps with many roots that were buried under the soil.. the tiller woilda been bouncing all over the place plus being how wet it was.. you can’t till mud lol

Front end is totally stock.. never added wheel spacers to it because on the front they have much less affect than on the rear. I only have 2” spacers on the rear. They are fantastic! One of my number 1 upgrades I recommend. I plan to do a video this weekend on all the upgrades I did to my tractor and why so stay tuned!
Isn't the Kubota too heavy for a single-axel trailer? The reason I'm asking is that I bought a New single-axel PJ trailer 14X6.5 with a max weight load of 1550 lbs. I believe my Kubota BX2370 with the front bucket weighs 2300 lbs. I would love to use the single axel trailer for the Kubota if I knew it wouldn't bend the axles.
Hey I’m sorry I am just now seeing your comment! So it depends.. some single axle trailers are light duty and can only handle 1200-2200lbs.. I’d thays the case then I’d say you should find a larger one.. you want to check the axle diameter under the trailer, measure it and then look up on Google what the load rating is for an axle of that diameter.. for instance my axle was a he ag dirt axle capable of holding over 3300lbs.. because of this I knew that just my tractor and loader would be ok.. so long as I didn’t add much more than that.. but that being said I still didn’t like to take it on far trips.. I would stay around town or around my area.. never hauling it farther than a 40 minute trip and would never go above 60mph with it. You just have to be cautious but first make sure your axle can handle it.. a lot of people I see online use a single axle trailer just fine.. I personally would recommend a tandem axle as it will remove all worry. I now use a tandem axle and am not afraid to go over 60mph or travel long distances.. if you watch my newer videos you’ll see the trailer I use now. Keep an eye on Facebook marketplace .. I often see nice tandem axle trailers where I live selling for around $1,500-$2,800 which is a decent price depending on the size.

Mike, what are you thoughts on toothbar vs straight edge on the bucket for digging potholes out of stone driveways?
Hey Collin! A tooth bar would surely work better on tough driveways that are packed in tight but a toothbar will also limit your abilities to back drag how you want which is the ONLY reason I don’t run one. Ideally it would be best to have 2 buckets, one with a toothbar and one with a flat factory edge. Thanks for the question!
@@BiffsEquipmentRe: Toothbar. I have the BXPanded tooth bar and it makes a huge difference in breaker out of a dirt pile, etc. if I were to buy again, I’d go with the Ai2 reversible tooth bar: Just leave the center bucket bolt in, remove the other bolts and spin the bar 180°.

Thanks Ron! I did want to record some close up shots of his Chevelle but at the end I forgot to take some shots. Would a tooth bar make it easier or not?
Hey Mike, great question.. in this situation a tooth bar would not have helped.. the ground was so soft that the tooth bar woulda only made the bucket sink in more and be harder to control.. tooth bars shine the most when the ground is really rocky, or very hard like it is mid summer when things are super dry.. that’s when you’d wanna use a tooth bar the most .. I always planned on buying one just never got around to it. Thanks for watching!
Would a box blade not done that?
Yes you could have done this with a box blade as well but would have had a lot less control in doing so. I like using the FEL because I can strip off the exact amount I wanted to. Because the Kubota bx uses a quarter-inching valve vs a true 3-point selection valve it makes it a bit more difficult to use with rear implements in certain jobs that take a lot of percussion because you can not set your depth and leave it there as the valve will constantly have to be adjusted up and down through out the grading process.. this is another reason why I like using my FEL.. plus I’m very confident in using it which helps haha.

Hey Stephan, no unfortunately I never bought the skid plate From BXPanded. I always wanted to tho.. the BX has a factory skid plate to cover the HST fan but it’s very small and undersized.. but that being said Iv never had any issues with all the acres of land Iv cleared with my bx. Are your tires loaded? I see that nice set of weights on the back. I couldn't believe the difference fluid made in my b2601 especially when using the box blade. Just found your channel, subbed.
Hey thanks for the sub and Welcome to the channel! As for my rear tires I do have them loaded with beat juice.. it was the first thing I did when I purchased the loader for my tractor.. Your correct having proper ballast makes night and day difference with a tractors performance, often these small tractors have way more power than you can put to the ground so the more ballast you can add to them the more powerful and productive they become. I made a few videos last year when I added even more rear suitcase weights to the rear of my tractor and explained at the end of the video just how big of a difference it made going from 4x 42lb weights to 8x 42lb weights.. the 4 weighs I added were those 4 John Deere weights. I think In the video I was digging up huge stumps.. I’ll leave the link below if I can find it where I talk at the end of the video of how much having more ballast helped 👍🏻

Thanks man! As for the deck I have, I like it better than the drive over but I have never personally owned the drive over. The drive over has more parts that can wear out, more parts to mess around with and adjust/maintain.. and no drive over deck ever worked perfectly.. for me I go with the simpler regular deck option because I can install and remove the deck in just 5 minutes time or less.. I can pretty easily drag the deck out from the mower or just as easily push it back under with out even turning the guide wheels like a lot of guys do.. I don’t bother turning the guide wheels cuz for me it’s just a waste of time.. long as your not in the mud or on soft ground the deck slides really pretty effortlessly. Hope this helps 👍🏻
