19:34 I found a way to use the weekly section in the Cousin planner. It took me a while to get comfortable with the vertical layout (I came from the Horizontal layout). Now, I treat the Weekly section as a list of to-dos (and check them off as I complete them) and then use the Daily section to expand on any tasks on the weekly. The Daily section does not have enough room for me to write about other things, and I have a separate Stalogy notebook to use as notes for my self-development exploration. next year, I plan to continue with Cousin and notebooks (for self-development exploration notes; and reading journal/notes).
I’ve tried several things and just never could feel settled. I’m glad you can make it work!
First off, where did this year go? I feel like we were just talking about our 2024 setups! Also, so many things you touched on in this video resonated with me, especially those moleskines. I love them too. They're tried and true. I have a love/hate relationship with hobos and rings as well. And that Walmart notebook is also a staple. So happy you put this video out now. Helped validate and solidify my choices!
Yes, this year is flying by! I’m glad you like some of the same books I do!
Chatty video lover here: I like listenig to people's reasoning. And I totally agree about the Hobobichi launch. I know what I like but it's easy to get swayed by others' excitement and start second-guessing yourself. For me it's a solid color Weeks (jury still out on Mega or not) unless there's a more 'muted'Liberty print from like the 2023 Peppers in 2023 . One thing I will add is the weekly supplement for the A6. It's small enough to fit in the back pocket of my jeans (or a jacket pocket) and useful to have on hand for scheduling or lists or notes when I go out without a bag/backpack.
I too dont like the vertical weekly portion of the Cousin…if they come out with a “No weekly view” option…I too am there with you !
I mean, it wouldn’t be hard, just take the weekly part out and boom, new planner! 😅
I don’t know, I just skip this part lol! They do market it as a daily planner so I just see these pages as totally optional and extra in my mind!! 😆
I'm already planning 2025 and I've already changed my mind a couple of times. 😆
Hahaha. Ask me next week and we shall see if it’s the same. 😂
I’ve been thinking about 2025 since the beginning of August because I was getting frustrated with my planner. I picked up a b6 Stalogy to try it out and I like it, but I’ve already been thinking about several different options for 2025. It’s hard because I have so many different styles and sizes of covers that I could use and I can’t make up my mind. I think I’m going to wait until closer to the end of the year to decide which format I want to go with so that I don’t waste money buying planners or inserts and then change my mind.
@@Mindyhartwick I totally understand that. I'm posting a bonus video this week about my thought process and looking back on old planners.
I love vertical planners, but I know it's not for everyone. I did see Sterling ink has sneaks of a b6 horizontal.... there is just so many options....uggh.
The tried and true approach is SO valid and exactly what I'm going to be trying to do as well. Thanks for making!
It only makes sense, right? Too bad we often get sidetracked by shiny things!
TFS Sam. Glad to hear you've found your planner niche. I've used Moleskine for so many years but YES the months is my one complaint about them. I hate their months, way way too tiny. Which is one reason I often use Leuchtturm. I'm pretty much going to keep my normal line up (Moleskine or Leuchtturm, rings & discbound). If I'm able to get a job in time & have funds though I'd like to buy @Just Scribbles new horizontal planner for sure.
So far, I’m planning on using a hobonichi weeks for tracking, events, and light journaling. I have an unused one from this year so it will depend on what designs hobonichi brings out whether I buy a new one or redate this year’s unused one. I’m planning on getting the cousin as well. I use that monthly to track my financials and write in when/where I’m spending money every month. I also hate the vertical weeklies in the cousin. And this year I’ve been using them for book notes. I use a large sticker to cover the date on the left corner and washi tape to block out the days and just fill up those weeks with book notes. And the daily pages I use for my more in depth journaling. I, too, love moleskine and have failed at using the large daily this year. I have more success completing the pocket Moleskine daily books. I have several previous years editions so I will probably just redate them or cover the dates entirely and just use it for extra journaling pages/common placing. It’s small and easy to grab and go if I need it.
Nice use of the weekly pages! Maybe one day…
PaperTess Design has come out with a pocket planner with a month on two pages. The paper is tomoe river paper. She will split it into two book though (Jan-June and July-Dec). I have her July-Dec 2024 that she is doing as a test run and I really like it.
It’s interesting how we are all different, I cannot get on with horizontal pages, I am a lister so vertical is perfect. It is great that there are choices for everyone ❤.
How do you fit your plans in the vertical layout when the columns are so slim? I see so many people love a vertical layout and I think I’m doing it all wrong 🤦🏾♀️
@@JessicaSmith-ie7cm I don’t have that much going on. My kids are in college, so I no longer have kid things to manage, and my work calendar is managed electronically. For personal appointments I use the calendar on my phone, I need those electronic reminders.
I’m obsessed with her new pocket daily. Really wish it came with fewer note pages and full year, but it’s still about as perfect as I think an tiny EDC can get.
I can't wait for the PTD Pocket! ❤❤❤
I think your 2025 line up sounds wonderful! I am in love with your sojourner ember ring personal planner! That is gorgeous! I also wish Moleskine would make the pocket size monthly a month on two pages. I know so many people say that. I don't know why they don't change it. It must be a Filofax thing where it take numerous years of hearing it before they do anything. I think you have your line up really honed in on exactly what planner types work for you. That is great right there, even if you do switch in between those during the year!
It IS beautiful and I’m going to cherish this cover! Moleskine…maybe one day they will listen!
I love all of the line up you will be using and pretty sure I will be using the same ones. The small moleskin is one of my favorite and have actually thought about putting in bigger monthly’s that I print.
I’m not sure why I’ve been so stubborn about adding in monthlies. I feel like they should listen I guess. I mean…who uses those anyway? So so small!!
I made a list for the planner lineup for next year and changed the list so many times …. I have to be consistent with what works for me or my brain doesn’t work
I have been using hobo weeks since 2020 and trust me I can’t stay away from hobo even though I tried
I love watching your videos! I am in the same boat with I feel so settled but I am fine with jumping in and out of the ones I love. The hobonichi a5 day free with a planner perfect for grid journal all tucked into my planner perfect tn. I am excited to see what the Hobonichi launch has in store.
I’ve considered the day free since it doesn’t have weeklies, but I want them to give me something dated!! And feeling settled but willing to try something new is a good place to be.
@@samplans yes I agree. I would love the day free but with 365 dot grid.
Hi! So glad you’re already planning for 2025, me too! Could you please share what cover you have your weeks in? Beautiful!
I don't think it's ever early enough to think about next year's plans. I've really enjoyed the Moleskines planners this year. I got lucky with my large daily and got the good paper and not so lucky with my pocket notebook with it's super crappy paper.
Many people would be happy if Moleskine would make their monthly spreads two pages instead of one. I ended up printing peanut planner co's free pocket monthly freeby inserts on sticker paper and sticking them in the pocket notebook for an every day carry. My next year's every day carry is an old daily pocket moleskine that I will repurpose and I calculated that because moleskine has so many "extra" spreads in the beginning there is enough pages to add the months and still not lose any days from the actual calendar.
Thanks for the chatty video. These are always the best!
Thank you! And I should not be lazy and just put some monthlies in. I’m also stubborn, and I think Moleskine should just make the monthlies usable for us!!
i really like that you know what works for you and you’re standing by that. of course, many of us will stray just to give something new a try. lol. i spent so much on 2024 planners it’s embarrassing! but now i know what works. i’m with you on ditching the weekly section in the hobo cousin. it’s never worked and it’s such a waste. give me a decent weekly and one day per page. thanks for sharing your thoughts! i always enjoy your video content. 😊
Thank you so much! Maybe one day Hobonichi will listen! There are quite a few of us!
some people can slay that section. i’m not part of that group. 🤷♀️
I have been watching your videos for a few years…I feel like whatever you’re using in the moment is what you think is perfect.
I have tried a lot of things over the years that have never made it to YT…
I think most planner peeps think a system is perfect until they find a challenge with the system.
for 2025 I'm getting a new 5-year from Sterling Ink and from Hobonichi, an undated daily planner from sterling ink for work, a wonderland222 for work, two weeks books, two day frees, an a6 techo, a cousin and a HON.
Sadly, I never could adjust to the new Sanzen paper. I hope that you can! I am just grateful to have hoarded several Hobonichi blank notebooks and even planner through the years that I can redate!
Have you ever tried a Leuchtturm notebook? They have a weekly pocket planner nearly identitcal to the Moleskine BUT the months are on 2 pages! Their pocket planner is what they call an A6- because it is the height of an A6 but the width of a moleskine pocket. Could be something to look into if you've never tried this brand before!
I have looked at them before, but I thought they were without monthlies?
@@samplans Well I must be goofy. Lol. I have NO idea what I was looking at, but you're totally right: the weekly L1917 planners don't have calendar monthlies. I think I might have looked at too many planners and am now mixing them up. 😅 OK, but seriously, why couldn't moleskine or leuchtturm get their monthlies right for us? Lol
If almost rather have none than the tiny box Moleskine gives. 😅
Totally agree! Now…off to Sojourner to view a personal rings!
They are gorgeous!!
Can’t wait to get my first Weeks for next year! Been using a kind of dupe this year and so know I’m ready for the real thing now 😍
Yes! You need the real thing!
Not really surprised with your planner lineup. I felt sure that the Weeks and rings were going to be part of it, planner hop and all. Also not surprised with the Moleskine and notebook, which had made their presence known in your planner videos. I'm truly thinking you'd found the essential planner pieces that fits your needs.
Thank you, I think so too!
This! This right here is where I'm at right now! I'm looking forward for 2025 because I know what I need . A Hobonichi weeks!!😊
Yes!! It’s such a great planner!!
I'm strictly a one-planner girlie. I know I'm going to stick with the Sterling Ink Common Planner for 2025 but I'm not sure what size. Because I'm also not a vertical weeklies person, so I'm just going to get the largest planner she has that offers horizontal weeklies. I'm really hoping for A5, but I will settle for B6. Right now I have a horizontal TN Standard size and it's fine but I do wish it was a little bigger.
Knowing which brand you are going with is still a big deal! I hope she releases a large horizontal for you!
Ugh I wish the Cousin would come with the horizontal weekly layout like the Weeks! That would solve so many problems for me lol. I cannot do the vertical weeks with the teeny tiny columns and the times. My brain does not like it! 😂
Mine either!! I doubt they will change it but we can always dream!
I really don’t see how ppl do it. I tried and tried. Haha.
If the cousins had a horizontal weekly section it would be perfect for me!
Have you tried a Leuchtturm for the horizontal weeks?
Sterling ink will cary a horizontal A5 common planner this year! Basically a cousin with horizontal weeklies :)
I had the Cats this year too and love it. I really hope they have more neutral colours this year for the weeks if I don't like the bowtie design. I'm thinking to get an A6 too for my health planner, or a second weeks. Can't believe we are thinking 2025 planners already 😂 (shakes fist at Hobonichi)
Hahaha! So their fault!!
I ended up ordering a William Hannah A6 as an alternate to rings…I need the movability that rings offers as an on the go sidekick to my B6 stalogy that houses my monthly/weekly/habit trackers.
I’ve never even heard of that!
@@samplansgo check them out! It’s a disc planner so you get the benefit of rings, but they are only 1/2 inch discs so it’s perfectly portable ❤
I hate how we all have to come up with these plans so early all because of Hobonichi's timeline. I am feeling very conflicted. I have always loved daily pages but I also really value having a weekly overview of all my tasks. I feel like the Hobonichi weeks is too small and constricting but I love the view of the whole week at once and the new S paper is so much better for me. My other option is a Stalogy ½ year that I set up myself for weekly overview + dailies + notes which I like because I have a lot more space to write and I can do my dailies but requires me to set it up. I also considered an A6 Hobonichi but it has no weekly space and no notes pages and I don't really want to carry around the supplement notebooks
We don’t have to though. All their planners are still available in November, December, January.. July the following year. Even the ones that sell out September 1st are nearly always restocked.
@@numberedpages I totally agree. I think we just get swept up in all the 'haul' and 'unboxing' posts.
2025 lineup
Hobo weeks (everyday carry)
Kokuyo Campus (A5 weeks for work)
*finish up various notebooks, I’ll be on a notebook no buy for 2025.
I’m cheering you on and wishing you so much success!
It’s August and I’m already changing. Again… Not completely lol. I got the Commit 30 PDF in letter. I love it! But the letter/full size in June became so overwhelming. I tried a HP mini but way too small with some printable inserts i already had access to. Moving back to my Half letter this month. One step at a time. September I’m hoping to print the Commit 30 in half letter and get back to a new-old routine. I change frequently and have back-up planner supplies everywhere lol. Hugs! (I do disc-bound.)
Disc bound is as great for organizing as rings! I like the mini HP but don’t seem to find many these days.
@@samplans Office Depot has a nice selection of the mini. They are now starting to carry HP 😊
The monthlies are too small for me too! I have big handwriting lol Question Do you have a video on how you use the spiral notebook?
I have shown the notebook a few times in videos, but it’s mostly random notes and a page per day when I use it. I keep it with me, but I don’t use it every single day, if that makes sense.
I have a B6 from the Angel Shoppe and though I love it, but it’s not working for me, need more organized structure, I cannot wait for the Hobonichi release previews, definitely getting a cousin 😍
Guuuurl I see your PLG sticker 👀 PLG and Hobonichi 💕💕
you could tip in a month on 2 pages, then that pocket size would be perfect for you.
I’ve really thought about it!
Hi Sam! Is there a printer that you recommend? Thanks so much. Love your videos.
Thanks so much! Honestly, I’m not in love with my newer printer. But I look for one that does duplex printing. I never want to need to feed paper back through. But the one I have now is finicky, and won’t print of vellum and it makes me crazy. 😩
I would be thrilled if Moleskine changed their monthlies to two pages per month.
Yesss. And such a simple change!!
Fellow cat 🐱 💛 person here.
I am pondering my 2025 plans. I’m very much leaning towards rings but I do love the feel of a bound book. I have been in a Hobo since 2018 but do I ever stay? No!! 🙈
*Sojourner has rings?! Oh no that could rock the boat.
Yes! She’s now offering rings!! Bound and rings both have so much to offer. I guess that’s why I choose both!
@@samplans Me too 😁
Have you seen / considered the Twines & Paper hybrid A5 for 2025!? I think its an amazing layout but its only on preorder until the end of August 😬
I haven’t heard of it, I’ll go check it out!
What size cover did you buy for the weeks planner? TY
I bought the size specifically for the Hobo Weeks.
