I played this hack all the way through when it released on the 21st. I was LAUGHING MY ASS OFF the WHOLE time!!
And let me share how amazing it is; They made this 4-5 hour long romhack--in only 6 WEEKS!
Other teams in the competition made NOTHING compared to this bad boy.

N64 romhacks have come a long way. Every new romhack i find for any n64 game, especially the zeldas, is incredible these days. They arent hacks, they are whole new games.

Cool video! I believe those pumpkin head bobbleheads are reskins of the cow figurines in MM base game. They have a lot of the same physics where they will jiggle with explosions. They also jiggle with the moon shaking the ground, but that probably won't show up here.

I watched all 3 of your videos playing this and i have to say of all mods ive watched, i felt this one ironically captured the essence of zelda the most.

Pols Voice is from the Legend of Zelda NES, the first Zelda Game, and contrary to "Popular Belief", they CAN be harmed by the Sword. It's not as effective as using Arrows, but it can be an efficient way of destroying them.

I love the meta jokes in this romhack. Also, since you asked ... The item in the mountain smithy is a rubber duck (appropriately put in the tub of water). The smithy was rebranded as a dev team, and rubber ducks are a common trope in software egineering. It's said that if you can't figure something out, you should try explaining it to a rubber duck. Don't ask me why, I don't know who first came up with it; but it's basically an easter egg for developers.
"Waiting for decomp and z-player to be rewritten" refers to programming jargon. Decomp means decompiling code, i.e. cracking the code and making it accessible for modders. I wanna say "z-player" refers to z-buffer, which is a term used in shader programming that tells the graphics card how far away something is from the camera. It's used in 3D games and is related to draw-distance.
The mask in the shop is a Discord Oni emoji, apparently with a cigarette in its mouth.

I am fairly certain that "z_player" in this context does not refer to a z-buffer (although that is a thing that exists) but rather refers to the file "z_player.c" in the decomp project, which handles Link's actor. I only have rudimentary knowledge of the decomp project, so take the following text with a grain of salt:
The current state of decomp is, that they have a source code, which, when compiled together with all the assets, produces a 1:1 fitting ROM of the original game. This is great, but it doesn't mean that decomp is "done". The current code is still somewhat of a mess and often doesn't have proper documentation. You will run into variable and function names like "func_80835E44" or "unk_1C4". These types of names indicate that it's not yet properly understood what they do and in what context they are used.
You CAN work with decomp if you dig enough into it though. For instance, let's say you want to edit the actor for Nayru's Love. You would have to know that the internal name for it is called "z_magic_dark.c" and could then start to edit this actor and change behaviour of the item ingame.
However, one of the worse documented and understood files is "z_player.c". This file handles Links actor and is a 15-thousand code lines long file, full of "func" and "unk" names. Trying to change stuff in this actor requires extensive experimentation and excellent decomp knowledge. I don't blame anybody who is waiting for a rewrite of z_player, because touching that file is hard work.
I admire everybody who gets into decomp and makes considerable changes to the codebase. It's a very difficult process. If you want to know more, look up "kentonm decomp tutorial" on youtube. He has made an excellent series on it, walking you through some steps I just mentioned. It's still a lot of work one has to do on their own though.
@@RealM__ That makes sense regarding z-player. I didn't realize it was an actual asset name but that explains a lot.
And yeah, N64-era code tends to be filled with many instances of what we'd now term bad coding practice, such as "magic numbers." That just means your variable names are trash and don't indicate what they do. The argument is that it saves on file size but there are plenty of optimizations that can be done to compensate.
Kaze famously redid the Mario 64 code in this way.
It's funny that this controversial mod chose to not include the OG Fire Temple music ^^'

There was redeads in ikana castle tho. I’ll never forget walking in this huge scary castle and 4 redeads were dancing inside bc of the mask I had on 😂

The Grand Wise King may be Admentus, which uses as avatar King Knight from Shovel Knight. He uses Powershell for the Patcher 64+ tool. But to be honest he does excellent work with it.

This was a good rom hack. The developers knew how to utilize the goron zora and deku well. But when you get to the end of the game the puzzles become very convoluted. I didnt like the whole traveling up to the sky in a big room. It was scenic but it was too messy. Than the whole "use fierce deity" to grab tall pillars. Thats not a good puzzle. Cause fierce deity is never used during platforming sections in majoras mask. Most players would get stuck on that part. I solved on of that kind of puzzle. But I got lost on that same puzzle at the end.
idk i thought the fierce deity planned puzzles were nice since we don't see him get much love.

huh, ok. There's some really fun gags and cool ideas in this for sure. (love the gibdos the whole pumpkin town bit is a great idea that game is crazy)
When they become community aimed tho they kinda feel weirdly salty and offputting out no nowhere like at 26:00 or so.
Not like you can't poke fun or anything but that did feel kinda off and uncomfortable. I can see wanting to cut it from the running for some kind of prize. I dunno, I'm not involved in the DC hardly at all, I don't even hardly know what 3rd quest is, I bounce between communities a bunch and only really keep up with what ends up released atm but as a kinda-sorta outsider I can see what the judges were getting at.

There was a Mario Galaxy 2 hack that just released a little while ago that kind of did the same thing to the devs of the vanilla game during the credits that left a bad taste in my mouth.
I would've preferred it if they made fun of Nintendo executives or lawyers that are so unreasonably aggressive towards modders as a whole.
