      @@user-vq5nz6yk1h it doesn't apply to everything obviously, certainly not single gene disorders, but it is largely true for multifactorial diseases. It would also be more accurate to say environment rather than lifestyle - lifestyle is part of your environment, but it can also be things like viruses triggering autoimmune reactions or exposure to pollution - you need the exposure (to virus, pollution, saturated fat, a psychotropic drug, childhood trauma, etc) and also the genetics to react poorly to it. If there are risky exposures that you can limit by changing your lifestyle, it's a good idea to do so especially if you have personal or familial evidence that you might have vulnerable genetics.

    It makes me so relieved when I hear someone say out loud the things I feel about animals. I don't have any vegan friends/family and my partner is an omnivore so I feel alone in my thoughts about veganism sometimes. I work as a librarian in an elementary school and I found this book about farms last week that gave me extreme propaganda vibes. The whole, "animals live on the farm and everyone is soooo happy" stuff. I didn't like this being given to our kids and it felt weird to shelve it away as if it were a normal book. Hormones and antibiotics in feed are banned for general use and strictly regulated for vet approved use only, as are the living conditions for the animals. I don’t think US meat or poultry makes into our food chain for this reason. I live in a farming region (Jutland, Denmark) and I am absolutely certain the vast majority of animal farmers here look after their animals well. Danish beef is very high quality, but it is the most expensive meat one can buy here because the conditions for raising cattle are so high. Pork and chicken is also high quality, but they aren’t as expensive to farm as cattle, and Denmark has specialised in pig farming for many years. Also, I gather we'll disagree, but while I appreciate better quality of life, you're still taking someone's life away from them when you don't have to. And in the US, male cows and chickens are often killed AKA culled because they're not useful because they can't produce milk/eggs, and the females are killed once they are not as "productive". @luke_fabis 2 роки тому +2

      Not a doctor, so don’t take this as medical advice. Just a couple of points to consider.
      If going plant-based doesn’t do it, you might need to up your cardio and work your butt off, each and every day. If it doesn’t drop your LDL, it’s at least likely to up your HDL, which is also good for long term heart health.
      And if that *still* doesn’t do it. Maybe give clean keto a try. Starving your body of carbs and forcing it to burn lipids *might* make it break down LDL. People on long-term keto (such as some epilepsy patients) tend to have good health outcomes as long as they eat their fruits and veggies.
      Of course, if going plant based did it for you, no need to try something else. Just stick to what works.

I would be a very poor American xD My Fiance hab an accident in 2019 and he stayes in hospital for 6 weeks plus 8 month of reha where he couldnt work and he didn't had any extra costs because of that. The opposite was the case. The state payed 80% of his salery in the tome he couldnt work.
      And you never actively pay your health insurancey because its already taken from you pay check. So you dont realy notice ^^ I think I couldn't live without the American system, because whenever I need a doctor I can go there without thinking of a bill. And what comes on top: When you work and your husband/wife not you can insurance them completly for free. And your kids too. So you can pay one insurance with the price for one for a hole family..

    When I watched that Walmart ad from him my reaction was "you live in NYC, you don't have a damn walmart." Pretty sure it's just a case of being paid to talk about a service he's never actually used. I don't really see it as a bad thing, especially for folks who shop there because it's the only option geographically or financially

He doesn't stick to only organic or only local so he simply gets the best produce available and does local when possible but in E. TN local isn't doable all year round.

    In the Netherlands all supermarkets do delivery and fresh produce is usually pretty good! But also, there is almost always a shop within 10min cycle. I think we do more small shopping trips compared to Americans. For us I think 1-4 times a week. But I could do a trip in literally 10min there and back, cause small supermarkets with loads of fresh produce are everywhere. In the US there are a lot more obesogenic environments.

    My first thoughts is that there can be degrees of bloating. His bloating might have been medium but settled down after 2-3 weeks on on plant-based. Where on vegan it might have been very bad and did not settle down.

    • @laranadesign4764
      @laranadesign4764 2 роки тому

      The "plant-based" diet is the vegan diet, it just doesn't include the lifestyle part.
      Bloating can occur for different reasons, but try a probiotic to see if that helps. I switched overnight, but I was already a Flexitarian prior (ate meat, but only 1-3 times a week), so I was used to eating mostly plants already. If his bloating is due to the sudden spike in fiber, adding more gut flora to break it all down should resolve it. Again, could be something else (stress-induced, an allergy, etc.) so I can't say for sure this would resolve it for him, but it's an easy try to find out.

    I don't know if it's that relevant since I live in Norway and we have different stores, but when I order food online from the shop there's a box where you can specify or comment on your order, so I always type that I want the produce to be in good condition and would rather have unripe than overripe items. The first time I tried to order, and didn't know about this "trick", the produce sucked - but every time I've specified I've never gotten as much as a brown banana. :)

    We have four grocery stores in our area where I shop ( I don't shop at ALDI's). Walmart has a crummy produce section. My daughter works there and she agrees that their produce section sucks. Krogers is better but it is hit and miss, nothing to shout about. Meijers is the next best but it is not A rated either. The best we have in our area is Fresh Thyme. Fresh Thyme is better than all the rest both in terms of freshness and selection. There is a Whole Foods but it is so far away that I don't shop there. I wish we had one closer. I have a garden in the summer and that is where I get some really good fresh produce. I am not vegan but I am emotionally sympathetic to veganism, but I just have not been able to make that switch. But even at that I do eat a lot of veggies and fruit and do cook some meatless meals.

    I have bad genetics and I have never used that as an excuse not to care for myself! I think feeling defeated by genetics is silly. If you had cystic fibrosis and you were lucky to make it to twenty you should eat right in a way that is enjoyable because eating well will make you as healthy as possible and feel better.
    I try to eat right. I absolutely love salads and soups and I eat one or the other basically every day. Also smoothies. I maintain a healthy weight and I always have and I think this is important to limit the damage I could be doing to my body or my body do to itself. I also take three supplements since I have discovered I am awful at absorbing nutrients from food; multi, B12, magnesium. I try to limit unhealthy eating to snacking and limit the snacking and unhealthy kind of snacking. I also try to be active every day. My main issue right now is I have the most difficulty eating enough fruit in fall. I get sick of apples and bananas.
