People mostly ate grains and vegetables. Meat was reserved for Sunday dinner. I firmly believe the hundreds of years before that, meat was even more sparse. We weren’t meant to eat meat every day.

      vegan til I die Lmao actually it can be kind of hard for vegans to get enough protein because most of the protein from “normal” omnivorous diets comes from the meat you eat. And I’m sure their doctor would rather them maybe have a bit too much protein than be deficient, which can happen and can lead to weakened bones and other health issues. vegan til I die yes!!!! And protein deficiency is very very dangerous (I’m a med student). It’s not normally that they don’t have enough quantity of amino acids, rather they don’t ingest the essential amino acids (the ones our bodies aren’t capable of synthesising), and they don’t have enough of the semi-essential amino acids - the ones that are synthesised FROM the essential amino acids. Protein deficiency can cause muscle atrophy, weak bones, stunted growth and more. Don’t try to make people feel less for their scientifically evidenced opinions. It doesn’t make you look smarter.

    • @dogwklr

      There is no requirement for fibre at all. It passes through us undigested and has no specific purpose and actually isn't a nutrient. If we don't eat any it has no negative effects. An actual study was done where chronic constipation was alleviated in every patient who ceased fibre consumption, every one of them. So it's likely it is a cause of constipation not a solution. The idea you can be deficient in something that we don't even absorb is hysterical

      @@dogwklr >"fibre passes through undigested and has no specific purpose"

    • @dogwklr
      @dogwklr Рік тому

      @@frankchen4229 what things does it make to help your metabolism?
      There is a tiny portion of digestion that takes place in the large intestine but the majority of digestion and absorption happens in the small intestine for humans.
      Please accept that and stop listening to unhealthy vegan idiots. We are not an animal that ferments their food like gorillas or horses, in the hindgut.
      What you are talking about is the fact that plant matter does decompose and ferment in our body while it is inside us.
      The fact a minor amount of nutrient reabsorption takes place from this food matter is a sign we are adapted for desperate low food availability periods of life.
      Plant matter needs to also be broken down so it can be expelled as waste so quiet down using big words like microbiome that you heard 5 minutes ago.
      The fact you assume that humans digest fibre effectively in a very narrow time window in the same fashion that cows or sheep do is quite embarrassing tbh. We do not have the capacity to do so and we never will, especially raw/uncooked veg etc.
      There is no such thing as a lack of fibre, its completely useless and the biome can be fed by anything you eat. A plant food that contains zero useful substances for us other than a low amount of protein (we need it cooked heavily or fermented before eating) is not essential in any way. 7:36 And I had not been vegan for long, about 3 years. This makes sense, since I never ate a whole lot of animal products. I probably didn't get a ton of b12 as an omnivore, and so it didn't take long for my stores to run low once I went vegan.
    Also, Kristina's "wait and see" advice is even more dangerous considering her target audience: women. Women have a tendency to get pregnant. It's not just the b12. You can tell based on her bloodwork at 2:45 that she also has low ferritin and low saturation of iron. These are more signs that she isn't supplementing appropriately to make up for nutrients found in high concentrations in animal protein.
    As for her fats, sure her LDL (bad) cholesterol is low, but her HDL (good) is also low, which is still a risk factor for cardiovascular disease even if LDL is low. Also her triglycerides (other fat in the blood) are high as well... As a doctor I do not see a picture of health in the bloodwork.
    I imagine she has to act quite energetic on camera compared to her normal (likely tired) self and she is certainly at risk for depression with low iron/ferritin status as a vegan (assuming she doesn't supplement properly). This is coming from someone in the medical field who was also once a vegan for 2.5 years... not trying to be ignorant here.

I was anemic and my thyroid was in the tank. Everything else was great, but I was NOT healthy because of it, I was unhealthy because of the bad things. I had to radically change my intake and take supplements and go on medicine for my thyroid. You have to look at everything! Gretchen Isasquirrel:
      I was raised mostly on pescatarian diet.. (occassionally we ate chicken/beef but mostly on Holidays like Eostre, mothers day, Thanks giving, christmas etc because of a specialfamily recipe required meat).
      I honestly believe this is THE BEST ONE, THE BEST well-rounded DIET for most people (not all because of course we are all unique and process food/absorb differently). This is also a great middle ground for people who do not want to eat land mammels for "ethical or health" reasons.. and with pescatarian diet there is very LITTLE CHANCE for deficiencies.
      Then back in early 20's I decided to go full vegetarian.. that was okay.. i dont know what motivated me.. but I went vegan, then raw.. at first I was okay.. but year+ later I got very very sick.. woke up dizzy/stayed dizzy 24/7 for 3 years!!!! As i tried desperately to fix my vitamin deficiencies.. my body still to this very day TREMBLES at times.... I GET TREMBLING In my legs, back, hands..
      3 years into my healing and im still healing and hope to god itsnot permanent!! B12 def can destroy your VESTIBULAR SYSTEM!! YOUR SENSE OF BALANCE.. your sense of spatial dimensions, where you are in space.. go look please. Im still healing years later! I hurt my precious body trying to be vegan all because of all the SHAMING that goes on to become vegan!!😝😖.
      See, its not safe to go FULL VEGAN without getting all your blood work done first, get everything checked out first, and be sure you dont have any unique conditions!!
      You see.. here is why you should AT LEAST GET CHECKUP BEFORE going full RAW vegan: i didnt know at the time that i went vegan.. that I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (connective tissue disorder/faulty collagen = collagen is 80% of body. Collagen protein builds cartilage, tendants, ligament, soft tissue like lining in stomache, lining in organs, thin membrain between organs (like the glue that holds everything in place inside the body).. arteries, veins, eyeballs, the menengines (sack brain sits in) etc etc.. ALL OF IT IS BUILT FROM COLLAGEN PROTEIN.. so thus means that certain foods, even suppliments i may not absorb well.. too fast/too slow, too little/too much.. i metabolise totally different than most people. So when i went raw vegan my body had no reserve for b12, i also was very low iron.. some peoples bodies just work better with cooked foods, meat, fish etc.. i just happen to be that person and it nearly destroyed my body.
      B12 deficiency affects the cerebellum.. this part of the brain controls BALANCE and a number of other things. You can damage the brain from b12 deficiency!!
      So again, i luckily caught this in time before i lost complete ability to walk without falling. The dizziness is NOT the "normal" spinning/rotary dizzy like being drunk.. the dizziness i had was like if you go on a boat ride all day and when you get on land you still have the sensation of rocking/swaying in your head.. you can feel it strong. I had this 24/7.. LITERALLY.. even when i layed down i could not escape this horror.. it was like laying flat on bottom boat and rpugh waves hitting or like laying on a hammock.. CONSTANT SWAYING.. FOREVER.. FOR YEARS... (look up Mal de debarquament).
      I would have never tried this diet had i known i had Ehlers Danlos. By the way the absorbtion/metabolism in EDS is actually a minor complication.. I live with Chronic wide spread joint pain (this is the main symptom) because my joints dislocate and subluxate (slip out of socket and back) daily.. when you think of EDS think circus=rubber man=contortionist. We are hypermobile (something people call it double jointed but this is a painful condition).
      If anyone here is considering a healthier diet and you want to cut out meat etc.. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND trying pescatarian diet as a stepping stool, a middle ground. Pescatarian is strickly sea animals (no land mammal) and organic veggies. Whole foods. If you want to cheat a little now and then chicken is a great option but mostly on holidays like family events. If you simply dont like fish.. you could try starting off with the least fishy fish😊😜.. like tilapia with lemon squeeze and gourmet mustard/honey sauce.

      Did you ever see the video she made on how freelee needed more protein?
      Another UA-camr compared UV's protein in take on a day she didn't select to Freelees and it was the same.

      Veganism is a fraud

    • @ideljenny
      @ideljenny 6 років тому +5

      No, no it's not really. Veganism is, however, a restrictive diet for an omnivorous species who thrive on high quality, highly diverse diets. Which means that if one decides to go vegan, certain precautions must be made. Like for example, taking b12 supplements. Veganism is usually an ethical decision though, made by people who decide that they will have no part in today's meat and animal product industry. Many try to justify their choice as it being the healthiest diet (which it is not, the common b12 deficiencies discussed in this video are a proof of that) though with the right care and supplements it is no less healthy than a modern omnivorous diet. Not to mention there are some things to say about being aware of what you put into yourself. Nothing of this is fraudulent in any way.
      What is fraudulent are the marketing strategies employed to sell products to vegan and vegetarian audiences with half-truths or straight up misinformation. Not many know how to properly fact check and only a few have a background in scientific research to be able to tell the difference between good and bad scientific articles and/or the quality of the journal it is published in. This is alright, not everyone is into academics, but it does result in a lot of misunderstood "facts" played off as truths. Every group does this, its nothing new and just misunderstanding thing does not make anyone a fraud either.

      Kory Mann, I live in Australia, and buy Vegetarian Sausages, they used to be produced by Sanatarium, a company linked to the Seventh Day Adventist group, now the product is labelled "Vegie Sausages" by Vegie Delights. Same product. I found out about the added B12 via my doctor's amazement at my blood test. Years ago, I took no supplements. After the very good B12 result in my blood, I opened my fridge and looked at everything I ate on a regular basis. And there it was: On the package, which I never cared to read: Added B12. So there you go.

      Definitely ask your doctor! But just to chime in, our bodies have long-term stores of B12 so it won't be easy to become "deficient." So don't worry too much. A lot of non-meat product foods are fortified with B12 :) I've been vegetarian my entire life and, with these foods, I've been okay!!! My blood levels of B12 are monitored by my doctor. No tablets or supplements needed. But DEFINITELY ask your doctor about what works for YOU.

    I, too, was shocked at Kristina....I enjoy her channel and many of her recipes but her knowledge is seriously lacking. She does not mean to harm anyone but B12 deficiency can mask itself as so many things. As a psychotherapist, I often do a brief checklist when I see a new client about their diet, sleep habits, etc because many things can cause anxiety/depression. B12 deficiency (and a few other things like vitamin D) can show up as horrible psychiatric issues. I hope her need to spread the vegan word is more important than her need to be right. Perhaps she will do a counter-video and apologize for this misinformation. My B-12 levels show up ridiculously high on my blood tests because I supplement every single day, just to be sure. I love your channel and watch all the time. I do not write comments too often....but THIS one really got to me.... Thanks for doing what you do.....ALL THE BEST!! John

    I know vegans who after years of extreme deprivation of their body through malnutrition developed nerve damage and some cases seizures. The “myelin sheath” which insulates covers and surrounds the axon is made out of “Fat.” The axon is like the nerve cable that carries impulses/messages between neurons and also increases the speed at which an impulse can travel along an axon. Point is these myelin sheaths can break down and deteriorate when a person is deficient in fats for too long of a period. This results in holes in the myelin sheath which in turn causes the nerve impulses to lose their speed and also to even jump from one axon to another creating seizures. Children with seizure disorders have been put on high fat diets for this reason which resulted in their symptoms being controlled. Being a semi-vegetarian seems more reasonable for most.

    You're right in saying you won't get your methylmalonic acid levels done at the docs. You will get total serum B12 done which is pretty much useless, or Holo-TC at best. Homocysteine is also a good marker for B12 deficiency, both methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin have different functions and each work to reduce HC and MMA independently. Well done for getting your MMA test done. Too many people are content with the routine "your results are fine" phone call from the receptionist, without being told that your levels can be right at the bottom of the range and have dropped over the last several years.

    Hey, I really enjoy the videos you put out. Not a criticism, but something I'd like to add from my experience with b12. Folks who have the MTHFR gene mutation can't break down man-made versions of b12 efficiently, and may have side effects when taking them. I kept having vasovagal reactions (passing out) when given B12 shots in doc's offices. Too much b12 in non-methyl forms make me really tired, nauseated, and foggy, like a flu. I found out thru genetic testing I have the MTHFR gene and that's why cyancobalamin b12 shots made me sick and why I was so low in b12 - my body couldn't absorb it. I had temporary nerve damage from low b12 and discomfort from taking the wrong kind. So if cyancobalamin isn't working, there are solid reasons why methyl versions work better. If I didn't have that gene, I'd totally take the cyancobalamin version... it's delightfully cheaper. ;)

      also methyl b12 is easier to absorb and does not leave the body when you go to the bathroom

    My daughter lost her gallbladder being Vegan after just 2 years... She is all vegan, except she started to eat 2 eggs a day... And b-complex supplement...

      I used to work with a vegan that lost her gall bladder too. Strange must just be coincidence eh?

    Is a Super B complex with B12 sufficient
    or does it have to be just the B12 alone?
    Does it matter?

      I think she didn't mean to specifically refer only to vitamin E, just used it as an example. But she clearly doesn't know how we acquire minerals and vitamins....

    • @elisenieuwe4649
      @elisenieuwe4649 6 років тому +3

      We can only make vitamin A (beta-carotene), K (gut bacteria, not as babies), D (sun on skin) and B3 (tryptophane). The rest of the vitamins and all the minerals we must to get through food/ drink. The vast majority is essential, so her whole point is just ridiculous.

      Tryptophan is an amino acid, not a vitamin :)...

    Thank you for posting this. I had no idea that I had a lot of symptoms of a B12 deficiency and I went to my doctor. Surprised to say I was very love in B12 and started taking a supplement and noticing a massive difference already. :)

    I eat vegan, not raw, and I use pumpkin seeds almost everyday to get some extra zinc, because I have trouble eating enough zinc. Apparently if you eat a lot of grains, nuts and legumes, you need more zinc, because the absorption get's less optimal. Which are ironically the plant foods that actually contain the most zinc xD

    Okay but thank you for making a video about this bc I just did some research on it and I'm almost positive I'm not getting enough B12. I don't eat meat and I'm allergic to many other animal products. I also have celiac disease and lupus so I'm much more likely to be B12 deficient. I also have all of the symptoms. I already have a doctor's appointment tomorrow so I'm definitely going to bring this up with him. So thank you for talking about this!

    Actually, at most, ONE raw vegan.

      M S I mean good for you, I’m glad you don’t have high cholesterol. But I hope you’re not implying that you believe animal products don’t raise cholesterol, as they certainly do. You’re young and likely have good genetics.

      Megan Goodhart Where on earth are you getting your information from? I’m certainly not in favor a raw diet, but neither natural nor refined sugar raise cholesterol. And 146 isn’t high anyhow.

    • @LivLaugh
      @LivLaugh 6 років тому +3

      That's also genetic. My fat aunt never had heart issues, we still don't know how (she did die of pneumonia though) very low cholesterol, but her tiny skinny athletic husband had very high cholesterol. Genetics plays an important part. But beyond genes diet is important.

      Musty Fan cholesterol is mostly genetic diet only helps vegan diets can be just as unhealthy especially when in a pseudo sciency cult and fucking up your diet. She is slowly dying just like someone with a poor omnivore diet only she has chosen to eat like an idiot to be a poorly educated vegan. At least vegans who are fruititatrian or breathitarian are still meeting their needs and living healthily

    I would get my blood tested and i was b12 deficient, but many times it also came back fine, I didnt know how the tests worked- something was still very wrong. I'm finally getting better now, but lowkey bitter about the time i wasted being SO unhealthy and sick. Thank you SO much for doing this video!

    I have absolutely no idea why your video showed up for me but I’m happy that I watched it! I have really crappy levels of everything but I never thought to look into the levels of things that seem normal without specific tests and what not, this was extremely informative!
