Nice video of a real nice engine. They run nice right out of the box. Fun fact: The handle on top of the cylinder oiler is to be flipped up when running then flipped down when not running so you don't waste the oil in the glass. I was a bit shocked the oiler was left off the whole time. Good vid!
Truthfully, we have the ability, just not the will to pay a reasonable wage for craftsmanship when we are spoiled by the cost of offshore work performed by much lower paid labor.
In Fiddle Town Calif they have an exhibit at the fair with a whole lot of these in various sizes. There was another name for these engines but I can't recall.

U arent running this for hours straight so it should last a while. And changing it is quite easy too. Remove head, open the bolts on the conrod and push the piston forward, change the ring and reverse everything. Shouldnt take more than 5 min. 🤷♂️
This is late and you probably have it running by now, but just in case here goes. First of all remove the spark plug, turn the flywheels and see if you have spark. Make sure the spark plug is grounded. The video shows how to do it. If no spark, troubleshoot that, make sure you have good battery voltage and the polarity is correct. Second, make sure the timing marks on the gears are lined up as shown in the video. Third, check the carb and see if you get fuel flow. If all that checks out, remove the spark plug again and prime the cylinder with a little fuel and see if it tries to start. It won't run, but it should fire a couple of times. Make sure the exhaust valve is closing and the gap is correct. Make sure you are turning the engine in the right direction. If none of that works, I have run out of ideas.
Do not get anything from Sterling Kits, their customer service is the worst I have ever worked with. I am talking really stupid. The person does not know a socket head screw from a pipe wrench.

We do. We just don't make this. I worked at an iron foundry in Minnesota. Made a lot of brake calipers and vise bodies.

For what is the second valve in the cylinderhead ❓there is no movement ❓
It moves based on the suction force of the piston. Air pressure will cause the suction valve to open to allow air to enter the cylinder
