The crazy thing is that carrying longships over land was done all the time historically, especially by Vikings. While these ships might seem too heavy to carry, if you are carrying it with 40+ men it’s gonna be a lot easier and these longships were much lighter, faster and more versatile than comparable ships of the time. It’s what made the Vikings so terrifying, they could come in with their fast ships, raid villages and towns and get back on their ships and flee before any real army or military force was able to mobilize and catch them.
Transporting a longboat over land was done, but not like depicted here. A longboat of 40 crew would still weigh 10-20 tons, which is 250-500kg per person.

@GamerBear Yea but Askeladds group is supposed to be way better than average Vikings anyways. That's why you see guys that are huge or that can take an arrow and keep swinging like it's nothing.

I promise you this series is accurate to the timeline of historical events and figures. Leif was talking about King Harald in the distant past tense, since he was referring to the exodus of their ancestors from Norway who now live in Iceland and Greenland. He's long gone by this point. Sweyn is the current king of Denmark, who is leading the war against England in this time period, and in fact is also king of Norway at this point via conquest. Sigvaldi is the chieftain of the Jomsvikings, and therefore who Floki is loyal to, but the Jomvikings are an independent clan who often provide their services as mercenaries. So Floki and his band of Jomsvikings are currently under the service of King Sweyn and Denmark.
Although the story is based on real characters and events, it also takes the stories of how Vikings describe things LITERALLY which is super awesome, IMO. That's why you got big guys slapping grown men away, carry ships, or logs, etc. I hope you guys will appreciate it once you meet THAT guy because he's awesome.
Funny that you mention Assassin's Creed, the mangaka of vinland saga made a special one-shot chapter that crossed-over with AC Valhalla to promote the release of the game in Japan at the time. It's really short but man was the art epic.
The show is surprisingly historically accurate, in terms of which known historical figures are where and for what events (this definitely includes Sweyne); do not check Wikipedia if you don't want spoilers!
For me it's one of the few shows that get "Viking" armor right. It's refreshing to see a Viking type show not dress their main characters and their army in biker gang armor.
them carrying the boats may have been ridiculous... but askeladd standing on that boat as they charged the fortress was one of the most badass things ive ever seen.
On the topic of the accents and dialect, in this one I think they just spoke your normal usual japanese they do in anime but one thing I love about having watched a SHITTON of anime is that you can sometimes when a character speaks in a different dialect recognize immediately that they're speaking differently. I noticed this when I started the Lyrical Nanoha franchise and in the second season I thought "Am I hearing not right or doesn't this character use a lot of sounds?" There's also entire shows in a completely different dialect that just gives it a little extra flare like Shinreigari, Lovely Complex or Kids on the Slope. It's always a treat to hear these
I'm sad they never caught the name of the Jomsviking leader, Sigvaldi. That's to who the head of Thors was supposed to go to. It would have probably cleared up a lot of confusion. I feel like they in general didn't really get the Jomsvikings and under who they serve which leads to a lot of confusion overall. Should've paid a bit more attention when Floki and them got introduced (and how they don't have to pay taxes to the king etc. - showing how independent they are unless hired) and when Thors talked about his wife being the daughter of the leader of the Jomsvikings. I feel like it isn't that hard to pierce things together. I definitely wasn't really confused about that stuff on my first watch so it kinda surprises me. Edit: I swear to fucking god... I really have to stop doing this, lmao. Just got to the part where they rewatch that scene...
One of the biggest reasons I like BW and SoS as reactors is that they actually go back and clear up any misunderstandings they may have. Other reactors who are uncertain just roll with their incorrect interpretations and some even blame the series for being confusing because they either forgot and misinterpreted the information.
Arnold schwarzenegger is dubbed in german too by the same voice actor who voices Sylvester stallone in german dubs. Made watching the expandables really interesting

In the reaction, when Thorfinn ran through the crowd like a savage I wanted to comment a Madara reference (but it'd be spoilery) so a Levi one works well too. 15:16 Star Wars Visions has an all-Asian English dub cast, maybe not all Japanese, but that works/counts, though some characters are non-human (but y'all get the point lol).
This was the first episode in the manga, and I'm still satly that the anime decided to rearrange the events and add padding in the episodes, but this one was really well done.
