      @Harry The Grey Jedi The problem here ias that Batman does aknowledge this possibility, but he doesn't trust himself in being able to stop. He doesn't want to kill because he knows he wont be able to stop after making an exception once. It's not that he is against the Idea, or think that others should follow his ideals(othewise he would have arrested many anti-heroes ages ago, including the Huntress). It's just his own conviction.

      Correct. In fact some of these aren't even true either, ie Batman toppling cars on someone is wrong (the criminal toppled the cars himself by shooting at them), the two thugs he killed in the garbage disposal were on complete accident (he even tried to save them after), and Batman revealed he had changed his mind on leaving KGBeast to his death a mere 20 issues after he supposedly killed him. The only valid example is Batman trying to kill Darkseid, which as is noted in the video, he didn't actually succeed at.

    What people do not understand about the Nolan trilogy is that it doesn't have to be exactly the same as the comics. In the comics the general philosophy of Batman is not to kill. In the movie Bruce Wayne never says he will not kill, he says he is not an executioner, a murderer. Harvey Dent and Talia die because Batman can not avoid it, because he chooses the life of others. And when it comes to Ra's al Ghul, as he says, he doesn't have to save him, since Ras is directly responsible for his own death. When Batman throws the Joker, he has to save him, or he would otherwise become a murderer. That is the difference.

    • @StardollDJ

      Exactly this. And this "moral version" of Batman is the one that I choose to apply to all other Batman's out there. The simple line of "'I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you" fits perfectly into Batman's line of thinking.

    1. KGBeast was retconned to live.
    2. Batman doesn’t kill in the Arkham games they even said so.
    3. Batman should NEVER KILL! As someone who grew up watching TAS and other Batman cartoons and read the comics, I, a lot of people, and big UA-camrs like Owenlikescomics agree that Batman should NEVER KILL because it ruins his character. He’s supposed to inspire hope in the innocent and fear in the guilty. If he kills one of those things gets nullified. Plus all those examples are different continuities and aren’t canon when it comes to the current continuity. There.

    • @gsv740

      TAS-This is an animated series, this is non-canon.
      Or do you think your logan should not kill either, because in cartoons he does not kill.
      In the original version of kgbeast dies, that says it all. The villains never remain dead and they object.
      Even in arkham, you can kill the joker thug at the beginning of the asylum, he even nearly killed his batarang there. At origins you can drop criminals from the roof.
      Batman is not positioned as a hero, it is said in all comics, he killed too many people to be considered a hero. Like logan, some consider him a hero but he is an antihero

    The Batman body count falls mostly into three categories:
    1. 1939-1940. His earliest adventures (even those with Robin) sometimes featured him killing people. The trend was mostly phased out by 1941, the same year that Commissioner Gordon deputized the Caped Crusader.
    2. The Mike Barr and Jim Starlin comics of the 1980s. Both writers seemed to prefer a no-kill guideline over a no-kill rule. Barr in particular was a champion of Bill Finger's legacy during that time and justified the cavalier attitude of his Dark Knight by appealing to those 1939-1940 stories noted above.
    3. The Warner Bros. movies. Almost all of them, honestly. Maybe not Batman & Robin.

    The golden age version of batman did not have the no killing rule, the silver age of comics came around because a code came in place that made it illegal to have killing in comics (this is when the Joker got all of his prankster gear), the Bronze Age came around when the no killing rule was lifted and batman kept the rule. The 1980's batman film was based on the golden age version of batman so is the batman in batman vs superman. Because the golden age batman did not have the no killing rule I think most of these should not be on this list. I also think that Darkseid should not be on this list because the true darkseid was never killed, Darkseid is a god that makes copy's of himself but less powerful which he uses to take over worlds (if the real Darkseid left his universe to enter another, the universe he enters will end instantly just because of his presence their).

    Never let Josh stop saying Dark-Seed. That is the correct way to read it, no matter what DC says. If they wanted it to "side" they should have spelled it differently.

      This is only true if you take into account video games, comic Batman's only ever as brutal as situations force him to be (save for special exceptions ie the Joker, Ra's, Darkseid, etc.)

  • @shinrugal
    @shinrugal 5 років тому

    some of these examples are from a time before the whole "I don't kill" thing was introduced So in early Batman and Detective comics he routinely killed the villain, In the Tim Burtonverse he killed all the time there as well since that was Burton's (who wasn't a reader of the comics) vision of how he should act. And IIRC "Son of the Demon" is an Elseworld story where Bruce accepts Ras's way of thinking.Gotta remember there's even a Elseworld book where Batman and Catwoman are criminals and the Joker is a cop tracking them down so don't take what happens in those stories too seriously.

  • @Xhumed
    @Xhumed 5 років тому +3

    Ra's set himself on his course. Batman's refusual to save him from the consequences of his own actions doesn't count as killing him.
    Also using examples from before the "no killing rule" was established is kind of cheating.
    And "Dark-seed" *is* the correct pronunciation.

    • @CerealKiller2

      The older stuff takes place on Earth-2 too, while the new comics take place on Prime Earth. The problem is that Prime Earth Batman doesn't kill.
