This is what truly hurts about losing arcades. You're never going to get an arcade perfect experience for some of those games at home. I remember once seeing a Fist of the North Star game that had physical targets inside the cabinet, and as the video played on the monitor, the targets would pop up and you had to actually punch them. You're never going to reasonably get that kind of an experience at home. It goes without saying that it's a lot more lonely too without a community or other people to socialize with.
There's also the little things, like the thrill of seeing a cabinet that someone had put quarters in but had to leave, so you hop on and get to play for free. There's even just the loss of arcade machines in general. That joy of seeing a game you really like in some random place.
I always wished for something like this to be released over here in the states. The idea was pure gold but the execution would be so damn tough. Nothing beats a level of immersion where the game gives you cards so that when you leave, you have a physical representation of your experience with it. Praying for this to not be the end
Well, my personal explanation would be: Since it is partially gambling like any gacha game you are already happy that you got the characters/items in question but for those games it‘ll only ever be in digital form. This game however gives you the things you basicly paid real money for, in a physical way. So it doubles down on the feeling of getting this thing not every other person has....kinda like pulling cards in a TCG. Also, even if the game will shut down, you get to keep these cards...so you will always have something from it. That feeling is what makes it special.
Thanks for the vid man. As a Type-Moon fan and a fan of mobile FGO, the arcade version was always something i was interested in but obviously couldn't play as I'm not in Japan. It sucks that they aren't planning any more updates but at least it had a solid 5 year run. Hopefully that tournament coming up does announce something. Thanks again for spreading awareness about it 🙏
This is a major component of a growing trend in gaming where these games a service titles last for 3-5 years then inevitably get sunsetted. It's really concerning that there's becoming a generation's worth of games that will only exist in youtube videos
First time in Japan was April of this year and I hit every arcade I could for hours. Had no clue what was happening on the card games but it was fun to watch people play. It was cool seeing people carry their decks in tcg deck boxes. Also found it cool that there were community piles for free cards near the machines. Even though I’m guessing those were the trash cards lol
Looks pretty cool, ideally a console port could happen, but like you said the card aspect was a big part that would be lost A console port could at bare minimum preserve the gameplay aspect at least
Coming from a fgo mobile player thats been following the fgo arcade news since it came out its cool, everyone thought it was cool and wanted to try it but its only available in japan :( this kinda lead into alot of salt, it started with arcade getting a lot of costumes, then it was arcade exclusive servants. ONORE ARUCADO became a big meme I'm sorry to say I think the thing to kill fgo arcade was Nero Draco. I have no proof but its my firm belief that fgo arcade was a massive ad for her, and it was really epic it started with the story diverging in small ways, romani doesnt exist, then we get to chapter 5 where its actual jerusalem and the templars all leading up to the reveal that arcade was an alternate timeline that draco nero made after seeing the mobile timeline when she came out it was the biggest onore arcado, alongside noah as an at the time arcade exclusive beast and grand servant fast forward a year or 2 later, we finally got the fgo arcade collab in mobile which was a sequel to fgo arcade with bits of CCC inside, and it was the best god damn collab. The story was fantastic and we got our own version of Draco nero, the first beast class servant and yknow what happened after the collab? fgo arcade announced they would no longer be adding new servants. So again Im so sorry to say, I'm sure it was a really fun game, but it was basically a massive build up to the coolest event in fgo history
it's so dumb they didn't release it on global pc, while mihoyo developing genshin since 2018 for almost every platform and boom it's gone viral real quick.
Imagine the day an IP as huge as fate finally makes a proper 3d game like this but available on the general market. If fgo already puts up a fight to genshin and honkai, imagine what a proper one like this would…
I think one of the largest crimes against this fanbase is because Arcade is closing it also means many of the Bond 10 lines and thus character progression for many servants that haven't been uploaded yet will remain lost to us forever. I may have gotten to see the servant I wanted to see, Tamamos bond 10 line, but my buddy has yet to get to see Raikous. If you do have her bond 10 line could I ask you to please post it for my friend if nothing else?
As a fellow arcade card game enthusiast (I play SDBH) it was really a bad surprise to see that announcement. FGOA is the game with the most cabinets I've ever seen for a card game, I think only gundam has more cabinets on average on any Arcade in Tokyo. You would think with such popularity the game would strive and not end up like kantai and other arcade card games that didn't receive more support. Hopefully they can use those assets to make something cool for consoles and PC but it's very sad nonetheless for the Arcades community in general (And I 100% agree with you that it's showing the slowly decline of the arcades)
Really feels like the end man. It's been in our face for 15 years but when even these kinds of games are done...its over man. Cool that you play sdbh! Thanks for watching and sharing
I had a chance to play this when I went to Japan recently. I had never really experienced an arcade outside of nickel city or golfland years back, so it was amazing to see the new technology. Just rolling for characters was cool with the physical cards. Didnt get to enjoy it for long but I'm glad I watched your stream and was introduced to this before I went over there.
geez, gonna get a bit personal here but absolutely feel this. One of my favorite import games was a title called magicians dead it was a 3d arena fighter where you control attacks and spells via hand gestures from either your right or left hand. It was very dope! picking up physic objects with my hand, launching cars on my mob psycho stuff really dope game that fizzled out too soon...
@@doogies fr. Tons of games I grew up playing are just gone. I know millennials grew up the same time as us genZ but I find it mad frustrating all the games I had as a kid don't even have private servers and sometimes even high level footage to find cause they're lost to the sands of live service time. (IE dust 514, free realms, club penguin, tribes ascend, global agenda etc)
Powerstone is grossly underrated, the downfall of the Dreamcast is well documented and it never had a chance against titles like super smash Brothers. I would love Nothing more than for Capcom to make a part 3
I'm still INCREDIBLY bitter that Capcom made Power Stone Collection then threw it on the bloody PSP, of all things. Power Stone could've thrived on the PS2 or the GameCube.
Back in 2009 right when me and my buddies were about to start high school, we all started playing a f2p arena fighter called Lost Saga. We dumped so many hours due to not being able to afford actual games since we weren't the richest kids and were looking for stuff to do when we couldn't get rides to hang out irl. We played that game for about 4 years until it eventually died due to the publisher having issues staying afloat. I really think launching at exactly that time in our lives the perfect storm for an amazing experience and there really couldn't be any modern game that could provide what we had back then. Thanks for the great vid Obama, made me get a good kick of nostalgia thinking about a game that can't exist in today's environment
The thing that has baffled me about Arcade since launch was why Delightworks/Lasengle chose such a small market to target. Even pre-pandemic, everything I saw about Arcade smelled like it was a lot of resources being spent, and the potential revenue from an arcade machine seems so ridicuously small. And that's before considering the overlap in playerbases between Arcade and Mobile.
I remember LawBreakers. Weird hero arena shooter with gamemodes based on some type of CTF and an emphasis on zero G areas, released during the height of hero shooter frenzy. Some people say it died to overwatch but the reality is a bit more nuanced - the game was originally developed and strategized as a free to play game with lootboxes for monetization that would release on PS4 and PC and if it had been released like that it would've probably attracted a decently sized player base. Publisher Nexon (and now you see where this is going) decided right before a PS4 beta that was done like 3 weeks before game release that the game would actually release with a 30 dollar price tag - which with the low amount of content (4 maps, I think 8 classes) was difficult to justify and the steep skill curve would kill off any prospective newbies. Oh, and it still had lootboxes. Whether or not you like Cliff Bleszinski (creator of the game) I'm just sad that the idea didn't take off because it was the game overwatch players thought overwatch was, and it had some excellent class ideas that haven't been coopted yet by other games like the brawler that moves strictly by rocket jumping omnidirectionally or the gunslinger with a single shot linear projectile and a burst hitscan. Going 12-4 on that one in a high rise map in the speedball gamemode was probably one of the most enjoyable competitive gaming experiences I ever had.
Yeah, it was a genuinely good game, but even though I enjoyed the beta no way was I spending money on a game that was clearly going to have no playerbase. Maybe a self-fulfilling prophecy in a way but I doubt lil old me would have changed history there.
@@mupod Nah you're absolutely correct the game was literally made to be f2p and they sprung that on the devs basically after the game was done. I don't think it would've taken any crowns but if it released f2p I think it'd still be somewhat alive today
You introduced me to the Fate franchise with those streams at the arcade playing this title. RIP to a real one. As far as a game I truly loved that never got its deserved time in the spotlight I have to shout out The Elder Scrolls: Legends (TESL). Absolutely amazing digital card game with crossplay and progression on mobile and desktop years before games like MtG Arena were doing that. Only it wasn't some bare bones money sucking esports deal. It had full single player campaigns, puzzle modes, and even a fair monetization system where you weren't forced to buy randomized cards but instead bought what were essentially expansions with a full playset of all cards. All this in addition to the usual casual and ranked matches with an amazingly deep and just plain FUN set of mechanics. It just never got the attention or marketing budget and released a final update towards the end of 2019. To this day I believe that was the best digital card game I will ever play. It just needed that one week where some mega-streamer got addicted to it and it would've been as big as Hearthstone...
Definitely Dragalia Lost for me, game was so cool, some of the best party based RPG boss mechanics and most people didn't even play against the Agito or play for more then a few months. Hella sad
I had always heard about this but this is my first time watching actual footage. This looks so incredible. I was down the FGO rabbithole for a while I would've loved to play this and have the actual cards
With how big the IP is now, I would've loved for this game to go somewhere beyond japanese arcades, I was so sad when it released knowing I would never play it. Like, fate has so much potential to make things bigger than a glorified rock-paper-scissors slot machine. Guess the wait for a new fighing game continues, or maybe something new like this. Maybe FGO2 in 2037 :)
you mean extra on psp? thats the actual rock-papers-scissor one. FGO while there are 3 types of attacks it isnt rps type its really 3 actual distinc type of attacks they dont counter anything from enemy they still will do all their stuff regardless of what kind of attack you use. They really are 3 different attacks focused on different things(damage, charging special or increasing chances for critical damage those are the importan aspects of the attacks, its like managing status effects depending on the type of attack you use) if its about the class system then its the same in arcade.
honestly, a new fighting game would have so much potential if they used 3D models. Plus, I'd love to be able to play as characters like Jalter and Tamamo in a fighting game. Honestly, would love to make one myself
The gacha streams you did for this game were fun af. The gameplay reminds me of Dissidia NT which also has really fun 3v3 battles. It just didn’t work out because the people who were into Dissidia 012 loved 1v1s and the single player content that NT didn’t have.
The part that sucks about this game for me is that ill never be able to experience it sadly. Even if the card aspect of the game gets lost i wish this game could get perserved in some way you cant guarantee the arcade machines will still be up like 2 years from now
Wildstar and SMT IMAGINE ONLINE are two of my goats in their genre that really hurt when I think about how they slowly died due to things like mismanagement. Its even more bittersweet sometimes when they almost make their slow deaths apart of the game's actual storytelling
Obama really knows how to sell the concept of a game, as well as his passion for said game, regardless if anyone's heard of it. The streams were tight, GGs. shoutouts to YGO:DoTR
Still surprises me how much you legit enjoyed this (and how, thanks to you whaling for THE COUNT, we got him in MBTL too heh). But yeah, I do agree. For the longest time as of late, especially where I'm at, it's not been fun to visit arcades that we don't even get cool games like these or stuff like Starwing Paradox or the Gunslinger Startos ones. And yeah, the continued decline of arcades in general (accelerated because of the Pandemic, even) has been very saddening too. And it sucks that things like these are doomed to be stuck in the arcades (I have sort of similar feelings for this, as well as Wangan Midnight. I know "emulation" exists, but having the cab there and the proper card reader and all that, and having your homies elbow-near and you guys hooting and hollering while you ram them into the next intersection just hits different).
with Super DBZ the arcade experience is really cool cause of how involved the card system is. with cards you save a character with your own set of passive stats, attacks and system mechanics, sort of like choosing grooves and assists. you even inherit skills from other cards and use your card to insert a dragon ball on the cab. when they’re collected, the next winner makes a wish. i imagine this experience is pretty different now for the remaining players in asia. but something thats been a big issue lately is these cards expire after 500 plays and its only gonna get worse since they’ve been out of production for over 1.5 decade. i hope we’ll have a solution eventually since preservation could allow more people to experience the arcade version. idk when, but im promising to myself ill make it out to bigone and play with the SDBZ guys while i still can
I was lucky enough to go to japan for new years 2019 (right before Covid) and as a massive FGO fan and current player on NA, I had to try out FGO Arcade, and I’m glad I did! I luckily was able to get my favorite servant Ishtar who was on rate up so I was thrilled. I haven’t made it back to Japan, but plan to next year and you can bet I’ll be bringing my deck with me. Hopefully the arcades will still be there 😭
One of the things that really interested me once I was in JP after evo were the arcade gameplay, and since I am a mobile peasant I REALLY wanted to give it a shot, but was running on a tight budget, but most importantly I was too gaijin to get the whole thing to fire up, and kinda shy to ask at the time. But on the back of my mind I was like "if I ever come back and there is a Nobu banner im ON THAT SHIT". But alas, wasnt meant to be.
This is exactly the problem I tell people that TvC 1 and 2 had. The games were super fun, but being locked on Nintendo systems means that hardly anyone in the FGC ever gave them a shot. Sad times...
I have the feeling that TYPE-MOON is thinking about whether to release it internationally, since Genshin Impact is earning more than FGO JP-NA combined. (FGO remains in second place among the best-selling gachas, it is impressive since the cell phone version has limited gameplay) I see it possible that in this decade they will release FGO Arcade, perhaps it will not be like in Japan where they have their physical cards. But open it on cross-platforms for consoles and PC. I would be happy to be able to play it on PC, it would be the most successful gacha of all, even more than Genshin
Not an arcade, but I really loved Dragalia Lost. It was a game published by Nintendo, and heard it was shutdown because they were only interested in Fire Emblem at the time. Which made me sad because Dragalia Lost being a really fun co-op gacha game, and it could've done even greater if left in the hands of another publisher.
8:04 Or we could take it back to 2010's with Amiibos, Skylanders, and Disney Infinity. Imagine scanning the Fate/ Grand Order Duel figurines and cards in order to play a game. What ever did happen to Fate/Grand Duel anyways?
I never got into most of the Lost Planet or Monster Hunter games, but I loved playing through E.X. Troopers missions online. It felt great to just barely finish the missions and celebrate back in the waiting area. I am sure there are plenty of other games where I could get this kind of experience. However, this particular game clicked with me and the game's paltry made it so that another one is highly unlikely. It's all good though. I have the fun memories and that's enough for me.
For me it's Marvel vs Capcom Infinite and Wild Hearts. Both great games that could of been so much more if the companies didn't do everything in their power to mess up it's chances. Your videos are always great but i really appreciate these ones where you show some love to video games and it's communities. Respect Majin.
I was never really an "arcade" person. Yeah, I've gone to few and enjoyed my times there, a majority of my gaming experience took place at home (ie, console / online) Regardless, it blows that time's leaving arcades behind because there's just something about arcades that are cool af.
This sucks to see this game go this way, never had the chance to play but it always looked sick. Most of my exposure to it was through your pull streams Obama, thank you though for sharing that portion of the game that could be shared with us. Would love see them carry on this games legacy somehow, but who knows. In terms of games I'd love to see shine more my pick would be Gundam Extreme Versus, I realize that series has prospered for years in Japan, but I'd hate to see it meet a similar end in the far or near future. Felt the maxiboost release in the us and other territories fell flat and I don't see bamco bustin out another console release anytime soon. Shit that really gets me tight, like these unique arcade style games that will get lost when arcades are no more or they're phased out and there is no way for folks who played them to run it back in another setting. Forgive the wall of text, as well as any ignorance I may have since I haven't experienced this game or games like this firsthand in an arcade. thanks for another thought provoking vid
It's not a FG, but Initial D stage 8 I still play in arcades to this day. Data is saved on a card and these days they are hard to find, but every once in a while I meet someone with a card from years ago and we battle like our lives depend on it. I've considered making a set up at home but nothing beats the feeling that the cabinet and arcade offer.
Man ever since it's debut I have wanted this game to come to the US. It's so sad to hear that it's shutting down. I would love for them to port it to switch as a f2p game for the switch where you could go buy packs of cards and scan them in like amiibos. Or for pc and have them sell some scanning device to plug in to your pc. Any way, it truely is sad to see it go.
Duuuude, as someone who put way too much time and money into Kancolle Arcade, I feel this one. FGO Arcade was a bit daunting with its GP usage in comparison, but there was just so much content in the game that its legitimately impressive that its arcade only. Its kind of a shame that these arcade card games can only really exist like this, but damn it was worth the investment regardless
I wish this game out to Steam. I always wanted to spend more time playing it. For a game I wish got a proper chance, Tales of Crestoria and Dragalia Lost are two games I was sad to see close. Crestoria has a really good story. As a long time Tales of fan, the story quality in games since Abyss hasn't been where it's needed to be. But Crestoria that quality of story telling was there. It was trapped in a dinky little mobile game. And the whole time I was thinking if this was a console game it would have blown Arise out of the water. It's a huge shame. I hope that game someday gets the justice it deserves.
Games that I feel the same sentiment as you do for FGO Arcade would be the Tribes franchise and boomer shooters in general because the perceived difficulty and appeal to the market is just not it even though a lot of the popular shooters are deeply rooted in it (Overwatch being the biggest example). Tribes was such an amazing game to play even though veterans kinda shat on it at the time. Movement was so fast and being paired with projectile-based weapons, it was so satisfying to frag someone predicting where they will move after 2-5 seconds of you shooting. Capture the Flag being the primary game mode also naturally forced randoms to team up and play objective which made for a really fun time. Also not forgetting to mention the general communication tool being the VGS system which was super funny. Another one would be Ragnarok Online. It was an MMO that was sprite-based, didn't force any story to you and just the general vibe was so good. The classes in that game were the most mechanically-intensive (special mention to the whole Monk class tree) in any video game ever. The PvP was immaculate and deep with how elements worked and you can counter them by equipping weapons and armors that counter the element (you would micromanage switching through 8 armors at some point). The lore was really subtle through just the environmental details (SO beautiful) but would hit so hard once you engaged yourself with it. It still is the perfect 2.5D RPG and it was done during the early 2000s. Peak.
a game hitting the end of its life span is always sad to hear. i used to play marvel heroes online which was basically diablo but each hero was there own class with in an archetype . was a lot of fun but as the company that made it changed leadership a lot of the transparency and content releases disappeared. and just when they got a console release , the studio lost the licensee ( for seems like bad conduct among the new leadership ) and shut down . ill always miss that game but I'm glad i at least enjoyed my time wit it
Yeah, after David Brevik left the game took a nosedive. As an example, Doctor Strange was one of the wildest characters I'd ever seen in a game like this and you basically had the modify the .ini files to get more action bars to play him correctly. Then learn to play the piano. Dumbing Strange down was one of many changes they made while trying to chase a console market that had zero interest in the game and it shut down pretty soon after. But it was a really enjoyable Diablo-like, not all the characters were great but there were so many that they ended up coming up with some super cool stuff along the way. Also they had a funny approach to balance, which was 'never nerf anything, buff characters who need it'. Which resulted in some absurd powercreep, but it was mainly a PVE game so didn't really matter.
I have to say the game I feel a lot of people missed out on was duelist of the roses. The game sold really well but a lot of people didn't really understand the game and the depth it had to offer. Which is fair cause it played nothing like the TCG. Combine that with a ok at best story mode and people only remember owning it rather than playing it to the fullest. In some weird twist of fate I was blessed to have a neighborhood of kids that were down to play the multiplayer in the game and man it's insane how deep the game can get. Memories of friends and brothers grinding up multiple deck leaders and their abilities. Winning specific slots for specific cards. Making the other player not look while it's your turn LMAO. I have no idea why they put so much effort into the system mechanics of a spin off game. Not to mention to this day, no other game really plays like it.
We’re at the end of Gundam Evolution. Literally came at a great time when OW is on the downturn, but laughable support, slow updates and hideous monetization hurt it so badly
From boots on the ground to boots 6 feet under the ground. I got a real kick out of watching the streams of you playing this game. Pouring one out for FGO arcade tonight.
Phantom Dust was the game that was a little ahead of it's time. Basically a 3rd person arena battler with deck building aspects on the original xbox, it was so good!
I went through this last year when wacca ended service and my three years of data and unlocks vanished. Some game concepts still can only be experienced in arcades still and its a shame that it just continues to shrink. Dont be sad that it died be glad that it lived.
I really hope they're just secretly making a new version with the updated printers and all instead of abandoning the arcade scene all together. Glad at least kancolle arcade is still alive, though i never would've imagined fgo arcade would lose support first. Hopefully at least that remains supported and continue representing the OG arcade card game genres.
I fear so many games I'm interested in will experience this very fate before I can ever get a chance in Japan. It's a damn shame. Especially as an avid rhythm gamer who can basically only play DJ Max and whatever random imports a Round 1 (which doesn't exist near me) or Dave and Busters might have.
If we're talking about underrated card games that never got a chance to shine, nothing rings truer to me than the Japanese online CCG Alteil. It had all the mechanics and design choices I wanted in a CCG, taking the randomness out of card draws and putting RNG in more interesting areas instead. Sadly when I found it many years ago the English server community was probably 100 people total if that. There was a lot of passion there and we tried to keep pushing it as long as we could, but in the end it never took off. I'll never forget it tho.
One game I wish had a second chance is Secret Ponchos. A lot of the accolades you’ll see for it tout praises from the FGC and people who saw great potential in its depth. While it never developed what could be considered a “scene”, it was a unique game ahead of its time that can no longer be played in multiplayer (which was online only). With a little bit more love and resources, I feel it could’ve evolved into something worth a small yet passionate community. Devs teased a F2P revival a long time ago, but you’d be lucky to hear the name of the game anywhere nowadays.
FGO Arcade should have bene turned into FGO Arena, something closer to current android gacha games where players can battle others with their heroes. Seriously, FGO must rethink of this if they want to survive and keep making money. Look at Mobile Legends, their name is very big. Also the South korean Epic Seven is also not bad. I've already answered this in FGO's survey but I doubt they will think about it....
The best part about this game: It's an arcade gacha card game the worst thing about this game: It's an arcade gacha card game. You needed to have some dough or just not care where your money went to play this game at a reasonable pace or compete in general. And the game unfortunately wasn't as deep as its contemporaries imo. Not that it really needed to be. I really think you can afford to lose the gacha/card system for a home port. Physical card games have great online markets to complement their real life counterparts. If people find FGOA fun as a whole than it would be fine. But if a home port really destroys what made the game fun, than i think it wasn't the game that was fun, it was the real life gacha/cards. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. I do hope there is a home port or way to play the game out of the arcades though. I hate when games get lost to time.
Kinda wished this game could've had some sort of console release, but it was tied way more close to Arcade than say Gundam VS so I understand why. Even then out in the west we're holding out for scraps for more recent Gundam VS games cause they still have an arcade focus for that
Just had the chance to play it in Japan for the first time. My honest opinion is that while fun and immersive, it’s feels like a black hole for your money. Pulls cost 10 credits (1,000 yen). Each gameplay mission costs 1credit/100 yen I believe (150 GP or whatever it’s called in the arcade version). If you get bonus cards or extra CE’s, you gotta pay extra to get them. For the amount of materials and gameplay needed to level up servants or CE’s, it’s a pretty expensive game. Especially if your not local. Still it was a fun experience, but I feel like other arcade games could’ve used the money better.
A cool game idea for fate series is like a street fight style fighting you can choose 1-2 servants fight and choose what master to get boost to the servants.
Damn those streams were legit some of my favorite streams and it's so sad seeing this news. Thanks for showing the game off on stream though big doogie. I still want some of those cards one day lol.
Never got to play this but I had a Astolfo Saber card imported to me in the USA and I keep him in my wallet in hopes of going to Japan in time to play the game just once with Astolfo.
ive been through this a few times. fun games oozing with potential, a small dedicated player base but its not enough to keep it alive/supported. nothing u can really do.
Been playing FGO since NA launch. Big Type Moon fan. Haven't spent a dime on it, but still enjoy it because I do like the strategy element, even if grinding is a bigger factor. Would like to someday at least get to touch Arcade.
yeah mbaacc, having to netplay on a pirated copy of a game that only released on pc as a bonus to a dvd set released exclusively in japan, through a scuffed ass dos looking app while directly connecting through ip really made one of the greatest fgs ever get barely any exposure. im not gonna talk about the atrocious garbage that steam release was.
Interesting. I was actually thinking about Fate/Stay Night yesterday; the premise of the characters and anime and their wonky mechanics would make for an interesting game. In your project L video, you highlighted how some champions could simply be added for single player content. SF6 showed us how important single player content is. I mention those things because I believe Fate/Stay Night falls into the same parameters. Then this video pops up, and you're right. As fun and engaging as it looks, I will never get to experience this. I also am never on twitch so I missed the streams as well. Glad you and other people across Japan got to enjoy it though. Maybe in 3 years we'll get something on PC As far as games go that went grossly under appreciated, I give it to DnF Duel. I love everything about the game. Even dragon knight. But it essentially fell flat in 2 months. New DLC looks amazing. New mechanics and new combos. All look well thought out, but no one is on the game.
Kinda related to arcades and missed potential; Namco's Point Blank series. PB was Namco's more kid-friendly cousin of Time Crisis and it fuckin' SLAPPED. Fun little shooting gallery game with quick minigames; think warioware but as a light gun game. I even had the home console version on PS1 with the gun-con controller and everything. Of course the decline of arcades in my country put PB in the coffin pretty early but what really tilted me was the utter waste of potential that the Wii was. Light gun games could have had a massive renaissance with the Wii but it never really took off. I dunno if it was publishers not going for it or Nintendo not wanting the Wii to be associated with guns but man, you put Point Blank on the Wii and that shit would have printed money. Maybe someday lightgun games will find a new home on the switch or even mobile what with gyroscope aiming but yeah, I feel your pain. FGO Arcade sounded like something else...
Even in the mobile game I feel there are some stories in it that is so good that should have it's own game outside of mobages I guess, Type Moon as whole has so much potential outside their visual novels but it's always something that it's "limited" on some capacity it feels like.
For me? it's gotta be the Megaman Battle Network series, and being able to use an attachment for GBA that would accept the physical Battle Chips to use in game or VS someone else. Something I legitimately can only fantasize about ever getting to experience as a fan since being a child. Would still go hard imo if given the chance but I don't think ppl could really give a fuck about it anymore compared to shit like pokemon obviously.
I feel like they could've made this into an MMO RPG for PC. In-game purchases would've racked up a ton of money for them. Like, people pay to play fgo(japanese version) without knowning jack about the language so they wouldn't have thought twice about selling their kidneys for a much better version of it visual wise.
Hearing you talk about the grind or low rarity cards being capped if they weren't tied to your account made me think this is really lame though, there are already clear card merch being sold, the gacha angle inside an arcade that also has an admission is very scummy IMO. Wish they just released it as a regular online game like square did with their fantasy shooter when it was over at the arcade.
Pour one out for Metal Gear Online 2 on the PS3
Man you getting pinned. This is the ONE
MGO2PC has been putting in WORK making it playable again. Highly recommend checking them out if you thirst for the glory days.
MGO2 is back up now due to community efforts btw
Real ones remember, but tip your cap to the homies who brought it (and MGO1) back!
Save MGO is alive
It is actually very important to the experience in a way that is hard to explain, has to be felt
Thanks again for spreading awareness about it 🙏
Thanks for watching
Those FGO arcade pull and bike streams were the best. Oorah. Boots on the ground ❤
Glad you like them!
This is a major component of a growing trend in gaming where these games a service titles last for 3-5 years then inevitably get sunsetted. It's really concerning that there's becoming a generation's worth of games that will only exist in youtube videos
Never thought about it that way but you are absolutely right. Crazy shit considering that sunset phase is just straight up game over sometimes
Looks pretty cool, ideally a console port could happen, but like you said the card aspect was a big part that would be lost
A console port could at bare minimum preserve the gameplay aspect at least
Coming from a fgo mobile player thats been following the fgo arcade news since it came out
its cool, everyone thought it was cool and wanted to try it but its only available in japan :(
this kinda lead into alot of salt, it started with arcade getting a lot of costumes, then it was arcade exclusive servants. ONORE ARUCADO became a big meme
I'm sorry to say I think the thing to kill fgo arcade was Nero Draco. I have no proof but its my firm belief that fgo arcade was a massive ad for her, and it was really epic
it started with the story diverging in small ways, romani doesnt exist, then we get to chapter 5 where its actual jerusalem and the templars all leading up to the reveal that arcade was an alternate timeline that draco nero made after seeing the mobile timeline
when she came out it was the biggest onore arcado, alongside noah as an at the time arcade exclusive beast and grand servant
fast forward a year or 2 later, we finally got the fgo arcade collab in mobile which was a sequel to fgo arcade with bits of CCC inside, and it was the best god damn collab. The story was fantastic and we got our own version of Draco nero, the first beast class servant
and yknow what happened after the collab? fgo arcade announced they would no longer be adding new servants.
Props for the use of the Yugioh Duelist of the Roses soundtrack. Love that song
God game
Too soon man. Gone too soon
I looked it up looks like a sequel is coming out in December.
Powerstone is grossly underrated, the downfall of the Dreamcast is well documented and it never had a chance against titles like super smash Brothers. I would love Nothing more than for Capcom to make a part 3
That was what I was gonna say too
whatever happened to the real mashfests
I'm still INCREDIBLY bitter that Capcom made Power Stone Collection then threw it on the bloody PSP, of all things.
Power Stone could've thrived on the PS2 or the GameCube.
Was JUST talking to someone Bout powerstone and project justice
Hey man thanks for watching and vibin with it
The thing that has baffled me about Arcade since launch was why Delightworks/Lasengle chose such a small market to target.
@@osaka199 IDK if you know this, but fans had fixed it, it's now playable again. They made a launcher called RELB, you can check it out
You introduced me to the Fate franchise with those streams at the arcade playing this title.
Thanks for watching and sharing man! And thanks for coming through to the stream haha
It's a fun little game man. Unique but satisfying
Here's hoping Samurai Remnant ends up good
you mean extra on psp? thats the actual rock-papers-scissor one.
FGO while there are 3 types of attacks it isnt rps type its really 3 actual distinc type of attacks they dont counter anything from enemy they still will do all their stuff regardless of what kind of attack you use. They really are 3 different attacks focused on different things(damage, charging special or increasing chances for critical damage those are the importan aspects of the attacks, its like managing status effects depending on the type of attack you use)
if its about the class system then its the same in arcade.
honestly, a new fighting game would have so much potential if they used 3D models.
Yeah imagine dissidia with physical card game component. Really unfortunate how these games played out man
The part that sucks about this game for me is that ill never be able to experience it sadly.
Real ones know
Still surprises me how much you legit enjoyed this (and how, thanks to you whaling for THE COUNT, we got him in MBTL too heh).
Unironically gundam is kind of in a similar position. Thanks for watching and sharing too!
@@doogies i have heard of the tales of that new Gundam Versus, yea very similar tale!
with Super DBZ the arcade experience is really cool cause of how involved the card system is.
with cards you save a character with your own set of passive stats, attacks and system mechanics, sort of like choosing grooves and assists.
you even inherit skills from other cards and use your card to insert a dragon ball on the cab. when they’re collected, the next winner makes a wish.
i imagine this experience is pretty different now for the remaining players in asia. but something thats been a big issue lately is these cards expire after 500 plays and its only gonna get worse since they’ve been out of production for over 1.5 decade.
i hope we’ll have a solution eventually since preservation could allow more people to experience the arcade version.
idk when, but im promising to myself ill make it out to bigone and play with the SDBZ guys while i still can
Hi gpbear
@@Isaac-ry3ks hi lol
Seen you play FGO so many times on stream, didnt know it came with actual physical cards that dope.
Yup...
I have the feeling that TYPE-MOON is thinking about whether to release it internationally, since Genshin Impact is earning more than FGO JP-NA combined. (FGO remains in second place among the best-selling gachas, it is impressive since the cell phone version has limited gameplay)
I see it possible that in this decade they will release FGO Arcade, perhaps it will not be like in Japan where they have their physical cards.
It had an s-tier ost as well fr. Sad I never really got to get play the game for an extended period.
8:04 Or we could take it back to 2010's with Amiibos, Skylanders, and Disney Infinity. Imagine scanning the Fate/ Grand Order Duel figurines and cards in order to play a game. What ever did happen to Fate/Grand Duel anyways?
How they didn’t want to bring this overseas to consoles to make a metric ton of money is mind blowing
Sounds like type moon and sega
4:42 man I don't remember which yugioh game this background track was from, but shout out to you for unlocking that memory
Duelist of the roses
I never got into most of the Lost Planet or Monster Hunter games, but I loved playing through E.X. Troopers missions online. It felt great to just barely finish the missions and celebrate back in the waiting area. I am sure there are plenty of other games where I could get this kind of experience. However, this particular game clicked with me and the game's paltry made it so that another one is highly unlikely. It's all good though. I have the fun memories and that's enough for me.
Bought Arjuna and Nero Bride cards just to have some cool official fate merch, wish I could have played myself
thanks for the content obama also you been lookin hella handsome recently cuh
Thanks for watchin
My biggest hope is we get a modified version of this game on console. I would play the crap out of that.
For me it's Marvel vs Capcom Infinite and Wild Hearts. Both great games that could of been so much more if the companies didn't do everything in their power to mess up it's chances. Your videos are always great but i really appreciate these ones where you show some love to video games and it's communities. Respect Majin.
Thanks for watching man
I was never really an "arcade" person.
Yeah, I've gone to few and enjoyed my times there, a majority of my gaming experience took place at home (ie, console / online)
Regardless, it blows that time's leaving arcades behind because there's just something about arcades that are cool af.
I they had release this on Global then it would not have to end like this.
Gundam is an EXCELLENT example of what im talking about
It's not a FG, but Initial D stage 8 I still play in arcades to this day. Data is saved on a card and these days they are hard to find, but every once in a while I meet someone with a card from years ago and we battle like our lives depend on it. I've considered making a set up at home but nothing beats the feeling that the cabinet and arcade offer.
Thanks for sharing!
You understand me
I wish this game out to Steam.
They killed this instead of KanColle Arcade?
God, you took the wrong son!
Wish we had Arcades gameplay for the mobile version.
SAME bro. The game is actually fun. Better than 95% of arena fighters
Peak.
Shooters aside RTS games are just straight up gone now
Have fans of this game found a way to sorta preserve it?
Yes
a game hitting the end of its life span is always sad to hear. i used to play marvel heroes online which was basically diablo but each hero was there own class with in an archetype . was a lot of fun but as the company that made it changed leadership a lot of the transparency and content releases disappeared. and just when they got a console release , the studio lost the licensee ( for seems like bad conduct among the new leadership ) and shut down . ill always miss that game but I'm glad i at least enjoyed my time wit it
I remember city of heroes...
Not to mention to this day, no other game really plays like it.
man you had to know this comment was gonna make me gush. duelists of the roses is THAT game
@@doogies When I hear the OST of the game in half your videos I know for fact you ain't miss out
We’re at the end of Gundam Evolution. Literally came at a great time when OW is on the downturn, but laughable support, slow updates and hideous monetization hurt it so badly
man, I REALLY wanted to try this when I could travel...
It is so refreshing to hear an opinion about FGO Arcade that is not just the "Onore, Arcado!" I heard from so many Western FGO players.
Can't relate to em. I actually play game. Thanks for watching
From boots on the ground to boots 6 feet under the ground. I got a real kick out of watching the streams of you playing this game. Pouring one out for FGO arcade tonight.
I had fun playing it!
Phantom Dust was the game that was a little ahead of it's time. Basically a 3rd person arena battler with deck building aspects on the original xbox, it was so good!
R.I.P. wish it came to the west it always looked fun as hell
I went through this last year when wacca ended service and my three years of data and unlocks vanished. Some game concepts still can only be experienced in arcades still and its a shame that it just continues to shrink. Dont be sad that it died be glad that it lived.
A game that was great but a lot of people didnt appreciated enough.
*_Look at my copy of MBTL_*
Cant think of one
Lmao I meant another one....
Kancolle is done. I wouldn't call it alive. There's only like 2 or 3 games like these that have people always on
I fear so many games I'm interested in will experience this very fate before I can ever get a chance in Japan. It's a damn shame. Especially as an avid rhythm gamer who can basically only play DJ Max and whatever random imports a Round 1 (which doesn't exist near me) or Dave and Busters might have.
The physical printing is so sick
If they made this as a gacha for mobile, il play this for sure.
a mobile gacha form of this is what i want THE LEAST
If we're talking about underrated card games that never got a chance to shine, nothing rings truer to me than the Japanese online CCG Alteil. It had all the mechanics and design choices I wanted in a CCG, taking the randomness out of card draws and putting RNG in more interesting areas instead. Sadly when I found it many years ago the English server community was probably 100 people total if that. There was a lot of passion there and we tried to keep pushing it as long as we could, but in the end it never took off. I'll never forget it tho.
Damn, I was just in Japan 2 weeks ago and saw this in one of the GiGo arcades in Akihabara. Kinda regret not giving it a try now.
The best part about this game: It's an arcade gacha card game
the worst thing about this game: It's an arcade gacha card game.
It's not about ruining the game. The point is you are going to lose SOMETHING no matter what system you port to
Kinda wished this game could've had some sort of console release, but it was tied way more close to Arcade than say Gundam VS so I understand why. Even then out in the west we're holding out for scraps for more recent Gundam VS games cause they still have an arcade focus for that
i was in Japan twice before the pandemic and here now. it hurt me seeing more and more arcade space going to crane games and you cant even blame em
It's sad. People here really just gave up
Just had the chance to play it in Japan for the first time.
You dont know what fate unlimited codes is, do you?
@@doogies I know it but it’s only on the ps2 it be cool with all the servants we have now
I always want to go to Japan and play this, so I be super sad that this will be ending...
Comment. Yes comment. Support my favorite creators? Yes comment comment. Rabble rabble.
Thank you
ive been through this a few times. fun games oozing with potential, a small dedicated player base but its not enough to keep it alive/supported. nothing u can really do.
Nothing you can do but smile that it happened...
Been playing FGO since NA launch. Big Type Moon fan. Haven't spent a dime on it, but still enjoy it because I do like the strategy element, even if grinding is a bigger factor. Would like to someday at least get to touch Arcade.
Hopefully they can take it and make something good out of the game assets
All I heard about this game is some lore and ONORE ARCADE
The world need this
The NP in this game is beautiful
yeah mbaacc, having to netplay on a pirated copy of a game that only released on pc as a bonus to a dvd set released exclusively in japan, through a scuffed ass dos looking app while directly connecting through ip really made one of the greatest fgs ever get barely any exposure.
im not gonna talk about the atrocious garbage that steam release was.
They dont make the best decisions. Type moon is dumb as hell
I always wanted to try this but unfortunately, it's never coming to NA. Hope the fans get some sort of announcement so it doesn't straight up die out.
I played FGO/A when I was in Japan, even showed it to my friends, so sad that the game with potential to be fun and engaging ended up like that
Thanks for watching lore. Hope everything is well with ya
yea i am good, thanks, just not really terminally online anymore lol@@doogies
Interesting. I was actually thinking about Fate/Stay Night yesterday; the premise of the characters and anime and their wonky mechanics would make for an interesting game. In your project L video, you highlighted how some champions could simply be added for single player content. SF6 showed us how important single player content is. I mention those things because I believe Fate/Stay Night falls into the same parameters. Then this video pops up, and you're right. As fun and engaging as it looks, I will never get to experience this. I also am never on twitch so I missed the streams as well. Glad you and other people across Japan got to enjoy it though. Maybe in 3 years we'll get something on PC
As far as games go that went grossly under appreciated, I give it to DnF Duel. I love everything about the game. Even dragon knight. But it essentially fell flat in 2 months. New DLC looks amazing. New mechanics and new combos. All look well thought out, but no one is on the game.
You know fate unlimited codes exists, right?
wish amiibos were this cool
Lol. It's for a Nintendo system made after 2006, not possible
Got to play it earlier this year on my Japan trip, left the country with a huge stack of cards 😂
Light gun games not transitioning into the modern era was a huge L. Point Blank is one of my all time favorites
This is a damn good video! Good job!
Thanks for watching
Even in the mobile game I feel there are some stories in it that is so good that should have it's own game outside of mobages I guess, Type Moon as whole has so much potential outside their visual novels but it's always something that it's "limited" on some capacity it feels like.
Typical type moon tbh
Samurai remnant
For me? it's gotta be the Megaman Battle Network series, and being able to use an attachment for GBA that would accept the physical Battle Chips to use in game or VS someone else. Something I legitimately can only fantasize about ever getting to experience as a fan since being a child. Would still go hard imo if given the chance but I don't think ppl could really give a fuck about it anymore compared to shit like pokemon obviously.
That's a good one. Battle network is tight
Wish they just released it as a regular online game like square did with their fantasy shooter when it was over at the arcade.
the idea is more hype than the reality, but thats kinda the point
Game looks cool as hell but now I’m mad I didn’t even know it existed until right now lol
