Could be a body guard. Dave would disapprove. He totally disapproved of John’s going his own way rather than the family business. But slashers put their own spin on everything.
His brother John is/was in the military. Blackwater was advertising itself to corporations with businesses abroad and those targeted by terrorism at this time. As the guy running the family business I think he understood the implications.

Special operations get a pass (to a point) when it comes to things like regulation haircuts and facial hair. It makes it easier to approach indigenous peoples wherever they go believe it or not. And it makes it easier for them to blend in if need be. A person with a high and tight hair cut will stick out like a sore thumb.

I think this was his first time on Earth. Midway, where he and Teal'c went to the SGC, was right at the end of Season 4. Based upon an episode concept by Joe Flanigan - nice! I have not even noticed it. ;)
The Stargate casts were brilliant creatively. Ben Browder came up with an episode in season 10 of SG-1!

Funny enough: high and tight is the hair cut I’ve had my whole life and neither I nor my dad were in the military.
