That A310 video is actually very reassuring, when watched from the outside and inside of the cockpit. As in what we feel as a reason to panic while onboard is actually barely noticeable from the outside and perfectly within aircraft's capabilities.
And we’re told rookie’ pilots successfully flew two huge passengers jets into buildings at over 550 mph at under 1200 feet - ridiculously OUTSIDE the aircraft’s capabilities.
🙄
@@deletebilderberg Steering a plane isn’t the hard part, it’s landing and taking off safely. If your goal is to be unsafe it’s pretty easy to fly a plane.
@@deletebilderberg I’m guessing you think it was an inside job ?
@@deletebilderberg How is that "outside" the aircraft's capabilities?
@@carzak Exactly, crashing a plane seems easier than take off or landing if you have training.
To the pilots who help keep the fires down here in California, my hats off to yall and the firemen who risk their lives to keep us safe!
You should show your appreciation by voting for people who don't regulate fire prevention out of existence. They would not need to risk their lives nearly as often if fire prevention measures were used.
@@donkoltz1 agreed. Gotta have a plan. In FL, we have fire season too but most people don’t know about it. The palm grasses burn here with ferocity. I know in south Florida, they let it burn ….a lot more than one might think. The recent fires were being watched and at 60% controlled but as usual, they let them burn. Letting the land naturally burn is part of the cycle. I realize this isn’t a one size fits all . Depending on if a town is nearby, the type of trees, wind and wind direction etc. but I do like how Florida doesn’t fight it. They let these things go every single year and it never builds up to dangerous levels. I no expert. Not even trying to be.
it's their job
OTOH, fire suppression is responsible for the build up of fuels, leading to bigger fires when they do burn.
California is a failed state. We should expel it from the union!
Wow, those 310 guys made a very uncomfortable situation look like just a normal day in the office. Truly skilled pilots.
Thats a lot of pilots
"Cabin crew, please disarm the doors".
"yes, I confirm this door has no arms, good to go"
Jet "Smart"?
@@xplmr1 Jet Smart....cabin crew not so much.
🤣
"Captain!!! Running thingy toward outside??"
Cross check & disarm the door…. someone is in big trouble for that flight attendant or maybe it was disarmed but a defect may trigger it.
Investigation will find out.
The low level flight turbulence is expected as heating of ground, wind off the cliffs, etc
Thanks for dropping the audio between clips. I think the the format you’ve got now is great.
i wish they wouldn't blur the video when the caption is up
The engine noise at the end though. MMMMMMMMHHHH the best sound ever
It's kind of an annoying buzzy sound at full thrust. 90% throttle sounds great
Fire plane pilots are the most skilled!! Just imagine yourself doing a nose dive with a heavy load at low altitude and then once the tons of fire retardant payload is emptied in seconds, the lighter plane would handle differently and they had quickly adjust and pull back carefully. Incredible.
I think it was reckless. We did not see well but he was probably 1 meter from hitting the ground...
That MD-87 ramping up to full throttle was eargasmic...
Likewise The A319 at: 2:50
🤩🤩🤩
I miss flying! I’d been to Sarajevo during their war being on the ground shortest amount of time to get the cargo unloaded and loaded. Flew a lot of tactical landing and takeoffs. I flew on wildfires for over 20 years and it was fun sometimes on the pushovers on a ridge or to run down the side of a mountain with slurry. The Azores were a welcome sight to be landing at after flying for numerous hours. The video brought back memories.
Thanks for flying to Sarajevo during the war! Sarajevan!
From Ancona? Lol....surely not....
In case anyone is wondering, the MD-87 has its landing gear extended to increase drag and slow the plane during that steep decent so they don't over stress the plane when they pull up at the bottom of the dive. Airliners weren't made to do such aggressive maneuvers at high speeds, and that sudden change in G-forces with the rapid change in weight will flex those wings like nobodies business.
You know you're in California because you can hear people speaking Spanish in background...
I was wondering, thank you.
I was wondering indeed. Thank you for the explanation
after dropping that much weight, the center of gravity has to have shifted & the flight profile radically different. Do flight systems automatically account for it or does it suddenly feel like flying a completely different plane to the pilot?
hmm i was under the impression that the gear is down as a simple override to the Ground Proximity Warning System, which would otherwise be screaming "TERRAIN, PULL UP!"
wouldn't adjusting flaps be the standard solution for slowing airspeed on descent? then flaps neutral, TOGO throttle to exit, just like a normal emergency go-around?
I swear these pilots who are fighting the fire are so skilled. Im impressed everytime I see a video of them.
They're still human - it's dangerous, there have been a number of crashes.
Massive respect to the pilots diving to fight the wildfire 👏
But why was the gear down!?
@@NickGobin bc if the pilots go too low the plane will hit its belly and it will break so just in case they will put the landing gear down
@@NickGobin -- ignore the other poster. gear is down so that they override the Ground Proximity Warning System, aka the thing that yells "PULL UP! TERRAIN! PULL UP!" at pilots.
obviously, when you're nose diving down a ridge on purpose (or landing), the last thing you need is that alarm going off lol
@@RandomRobloxPlayer091That's definitely not it 😂 you think the landing gear is going to help if the plane hits some terrain at a couple of hundred knots?
@@feastmode7931That's interesting, I'd think there are other ways to silence/disable GPWS, but seems plausible. My first thought was gear down to create drag, given the kind of maneuver they were doing. Insane piloting skills these guys have.
Incredible how bumpy the flight of the a310 is at that speed close to the ground.
its because of the terrain right next to the runway, see my comment
I wonder under what circumstances you can get the permission to make such a low pass…?
@@mds-lf3kl a simple ATC Request for a low pass. yes its that simple.
most ATC's approve them especially for FINI Flights and retirement events such as these.
depending on traffic and other factors, ATC just has to say Cleared or Denied.
@@mds-lf3kl using a prior aircraft i flew at KFFC with Civil Air Patrol, which is a Unicom airfield so the phraseology would always be "TRAFFIC"
Traffic November 8 8 3 Charlie Papa, making a Low pass, runway 3 1 , straight out into right hand patten.
upon executing the low pass and turning the right hand traffic i declare my status as entering the traffic pattern and so forth. in a unicom situation everyone is responsible for everyone and themselves in maintaining order and fluidity of the airspace.
if i made that same request to say another airport that has a actual operating tower it would sound like this: using Peachtree Dekalb Airport KPDK :
Peachtree Tower, November 8 8 3 Charlie Papa, 4 miles to the South, requesting a low pass over the active, straight out departure.
KPDK's tower would either clear me for that said low pass with pattern entry instructions or deny me the pass with a reason why ( optional )
A Clearance would be: November 8 8 3 Charlie Papa cleared for the Low Pass Runway 2 1 Left, fly runway heading climb to 2000 feet upon crossing runway threshold.
A denial would be:
November 8 8 3 Charlie Papa, request denied, traffic on short final.
If denied i could request a delay and vectoring to get a slot to make the pass or just accept the denial that they are busy and forget about the low pass and move on.
I would acknowledge that clearance or denial by repeating the instructions back to Peachtree Tower.
Hope that helps
@@CapStar362 thank you for that insightful and detailed information 🙏
Flying ist not my business… my propeller lives under water 😅
We forget the range of incredible skills pilots have. So much renewed respect!
And then we force them to take injections, ending their careers. Weird.
Azores have some crazy cross winds
why did I found this channel so late? love the information given to every clip. For people who are interested in aviation and already know the basics this is a blessing.
Crazy how calm and smooth the pass appears to be from the ground, then you see the inside of the cockpit where the pilot looks like he’s riding a mechanical bull 🤣, awesome.
Same thing when you pilot a plane FPV. It seems smooth from the outside.
Truly.
Was anybody else laughing at 1:52 when the flight attendant opens the door with the slide coming undone and the name of the airline being Jet Smart? 😂 The irony!
"JetSmart" That's marketing for you. Like "new and improved" - i say "yeah, sure". XD.
Jajaja. Eso fue con un avión de matrícula chilena. Pienso que la sobrecargo fue despedida.
I pissed myself laughing so hard.
No...
Same reason you call a fat guy "Slim", or a short guy "Stretch".
The clip about windshear reminded of my own experiences as a pilot. Nothing like losing 100 feet of altitude in the blink of an eye, especially on final approach. Scary stuff.
The boys callin it from the window seat was top notch hilarious
The pucker factor is real, for sure.
2:54 Oh I really love the sound of A319/A320 engines ...
2:00 me in every mobile flight simulator
And again, the fastest 3 minutes on YT
That is what I felt
No, I timed it... it was three minutes.
Just gonna say this...these pilots are something else. I would feel amazing knowing they were in the cockpit of my plane even if the weather was horrendous. These maneuver capabilities are supreme. (and yes a solid number of commercial pilots have air-force experience.)
As a child traveling overseas, the airlines would have a few music channels and 1 or 2 radio traffic traffic channels on the cabin headsets. Made for really cool conversations. It also helped that the pilots would share the pre-planed flight path. My father would give me maps and I would point out the landmarks in the distance and reference them on the map as were listening to air traffic. Made you feel more into the flight. It was like having a professional travel guide in the cockpit. I was welcomed many times into versus cockpits. Little did I know, my father was grooming me to become a pilot. Every time I fly, I’m smiling ear to ear with memories. Guess thats the importance of having both parents (male and female) in a children’s young life. Thanks dad..
Lovely story:) Your old man is definitely proud
i love this
Thank you so much for sharing that 😍
That's touching. I'm assuming listening to the pilots like that isn't available now because of 9/11?
@@ex7463 unfortunately- the whole world has gone bat stuff crazy now. So, your assumption is correct.
This is your best video yet. Excellent, consistent quality within and between the nice, long video clips. Thanks!
The Fire plane pilots are fricken amazing! Slurry spot on every time.
The JetSmart attendant just wanted to make it more fun to exit the plane.
Unfortunately she probably lost her job because of it
I would have absolutely insisted on taking the slide to de-board.
You can tell which of the three ground crew knew what was up and started legging it as soon as the thing unfolded.
@Schöneberger Never seen anyone get fired for this... (25 year airline mechanic)
Why the hell is she opening the door without clearance from the ground crew anyway? Third world safety management systems with that airline apparently.
The pilot diving to quench the fire....Balls of Steel and skill by the bucketload
I saw a show once demonstrating the avionics skill involved dumping water on a wildfire. The weight of the water and its sudden release changes the dynamics of the aircraft’s ability to fly at lower altitude. It takes a delicate balance of thrust and lift to keep the plane under control
are you sure avionics means what you think it means? isn't it aviation electronic?
The C-160 Transel steep approach was originally called a Keh Sahn approach , it was developed by USAF Hercules pilots during the siege of Keh Sahn during the Vietnam war.
That turbulence low level flyby is so AWESOME!
You actually listened to our suggestions in the previous video. That's great! Love the format as it is here.
Agree, it's perfect now
From the "outside" the turbulence that the A310 experienced didn´t even look that bad, but once you see the cockpit-shot it´s a totally different story 😉
This is not turbulence it's just the high speed penetration effect of dense air at low altitude. Pilots would never risk a low pass with turbulence cz that's really dangerous.
The pilots in the first video did a fantastic job, kudos to them!
Indeed.
But the flight attendants, not so much.
Better than the idiot cameraman that's for sure!
The nose dive on the wildfire most impressive imo
@@SpaceBurritos the FAA issued an air worthiness directive requiring the MD-80 series fire tanker operators to keep the landing gear down for flight stability.
That A310 sure looked smooth from the ground!
That tanker pilot - I feel like he's done that before. Once or twice.
Yeah😃

OMG that A319 go around sound was so satisfying.
I'm old enough to remember when the Sarajevo approach was called the Khe Sanh Approach.
Yup. I was seated in the tail of a Caribou when they flew into Nha Trang RVN...Scared the poop out of me.
LAPES augmented?
Is it the city with an airport in Vietnam? (googled it - it is) In ex-soviet countries it is called the Afghan approach. In addition to extremely steep glideslope, IL-76 pilots did it in spirals over the airport 'cause that airspace was safer from Stingers. I think every war since WWII has its own approach...
@@mvgudz it was a fire base under siege and they could only bring in supplies by air.
@@TheBooban we had the same situation in Lugansk airport but not too long for the common noun to form. Glory to war heroes!
The Sarajevo approach is also known as the Khe Sanh approach for the same reason. And, when you fly one of those, the ground fills your entire windscreen. Very cool flying!
I lost count of the number of missed approaches I flew into Lajes (Azores). That cliff at the end of the runway and the constant winds always made for sporty landings. The islands and its people are truly beautiful.
Was that Terceira or Santa Maria in the video? It looks awfully flat to be Lajes field. (Lived there 1968-1970)

Great content as always 👍
1:56 The first time I saw that it was in 1998 after the hurricane Mitch in Honduras, the USAF crew did it with a C-130/C-160 I'm not sure which one it was because there was a few different planes carrying goods and supplies every day during a few weeks after the hurricane, but I remember the loud noise from the engines like "AAAAAAAAHHHHH" and the plane almost free falling until they got close to the run way and landed, it was the most crazy thing I had ever seen because the plane it was loaded to max capacity and they did from a very high altitude higher than this one from the video so the momentum gained should be something hard to explain in simple words...
Great footage. I love the way people talk their way through nervousness on flights in adverse weather like the last segment.

I immediately recognized the Tampa Airport as the location of that last clip. I live in the area and fly in and out from there all the time. It’s a great airport, so is Orlando. We’re fortunate to have them. I grew up in Philly and that airport is a nightmare lol.
I was spotting at KTPA when the exact event happened! Caught me off guard seeing what it looked like from the inside
KTPA is my local airport too. I have flown in and out of just about every major airport in the US, a few international airports, and a lot of the regional airports. Tampa is still the nicest, if only for the center hub that you, and people picking you up, can use. Some airports limit people picking up arrivals to just a seating area. Tampa made the middle of the airport a destination on it's own.
All hail the aware, cool pilots that bring us home safely. Thanks!
0:30 I have landed there many times as an airline pilot. This is Lajes Field on Terceira Island in the Azores, one of several islands. It's an important refueling or alternate airport for Trans Atlantic Flights. The winds can be wicked. Was fortunate to layover many times. It is like stepping back in time. They raise cattle and laid back life style. They still have bull fighting and running of the bulls where locals line the road and taunt the bulls... This is where it happens. The Azores islands is part of Portugal. We got B767's and landed there less often, however we still had charters there as Lajes Field is a joint military and civilian field.
Wrong, this is actually Joao Paulo II Airport in Sao Miguel Island, which is around 100 miles away from Terceira Island. Lajes Field's runway is actually longer and wider than this one. Best regards
@@Pe1xe It has been 13 years since I was there last (Lajes). 2001 to 2007 I landed there in a B757 and B767at least 1 or 2 times a month. Looked familure. Island, runway near water, azores, and never landed at airport you say I'm WRONG! Ha ha. However does not change fondly remembering my layovers. Quaint, historical and rural feel. People were friendly, food good. Except for serious winds and fog it was always a pleasure.

3 minutes of aviation. Always great!
1:30 This is the first time I see a video from my country on this channel 🇨🇱
Having experienced a last second go around due to a microburst -- per the pilot -- after we landed -- I can say it's the second most unnerving aspect of flying. The first? When your loved one -- not oneself -- is on such a flight and the pilot having to make multiple go arounds and not a damn thing that can be done to ease the anxiety. All pilots earn my utmost respect. None of them are paid what they are worth in terms of value and outcomes. Pilots are surgeons of the skies
@1:45 As if that plane took it personally when they tried to use the stairs. "Get that s**t outta here, I got this!" "We don't need no stinking steps, we gotta slide!"
I'm a little surprised that it had enough force to push the stairs back. But I guess they designed it to be able to be useful anywhere it lands. In an emergency, the ground won't be at the right height, and it may not be clear and flat. Now I know, they can probably shove small trees out of the way. It's good to know, if I'm ever in a crash. I've flown a lot, and have never been in an emergency landing. The statistics are going to catch up with me eventually.

"Sarajevo approach" is called "Afghanistan approach" in Russia - Russian IL-76 pilots perfomed it in 80-s in Kabul
USAF was doing similar approach in the early 80's, if not before. I used to watch them at Mather AFB in Sacramento, Calif.

Why on earth would they be retiring that A310? Seemed to be in great shape. Also, I'd love to have a C-160 up here in Alaska for remote village service. It's small enough and light enough to not damage the gravel road/sometimes runways but , can carry a lot more than a single engine Otter or de Havilland DHC-6.

Someone actually said 'holy Toledo'. 🤣
I notice the planes used to fight fires are always an older plane. The stress on the airframes when dropping water or the fire retardant material is very high. I worry them using older airframes that the planes will break up during a fire drop.
The stress of a drop is well within the limitations of the airframe; that being said because of how they are operated they are inspected more than they were when in airline service. Regarding the age, this particular airplane was built in 1991, so not that old especially when compared to the airplanes that the jets replaced.
