Little to none...just call or text (maybe). Unfortunately, it will only get worse. The ones whose parents allow limited access to social media, will be ridiculed and bullied, especially by their peers on social media. It's a sad, sad world we live in.

I’ve noticed they no longer have kids clothes. Just smaller sizes of adult styles! We used to have corny princess or dinosaur shirts! Now they go from playing with toys straight to tiktok and wanting social media clout, zero tween zone. Nothing makes me more uncomfortable then seeing a CHILD in the same outfits my bf wears! Weird!

I'm a teenage girl the pressure to look "sexy" is intense, I was made fun of for wearing oversize clothing on a casual clothes day (baggy clothes are popular, I think, but my clothes were apparently 'unfashionable') like I'm young and I don't want to have to worry abt fashion and looking "hot and attractive" before I reach 18.
Whenever I've told my friends about my parents and how they don't let me use social media like TT they always call my parents "overprotective" or "really strict" but I just know that they're keeping me safe (never thought I'd prove my mum right) .

Ex. if I was going to the park I would just tell my parents, leave and then come home before dinner (or whatever required family event we had that day- which I would already know about). I have an 11 year old daughter and it is honestly so hard to keep all these apps away. We have bans across all social media, but things still get through. Many tic toc videos are available within UA-cam shorts, there's chat functions in Roblox! How can we teach our kids to respect their bodies when things like only fans exist, these girls making 100s of 1000s for "dancing" and writing it off as being confident and loving their body...it's a really hard balance of trying to teach them the right way and then becoming the enemy because they are the only kid at the school without a tic toc account. We recently moved to Kangaroo Island, remote, and honestly it's like going back 20 years, no ipads at schools, weekend sports are the pillar of the community. It's a breath of fresh air. It's a crazy crazy world!

They are simply not aware of the dark side of these situations. I spoke with my daughter about these kinds of potential situatiins, and she hand on her heart could not comprehend why these people that were commenting were not her "real" friends and may have alterior motives...I do think everyone shares a little bit of responsibility, but ultimately (imo) it's the parents that need to be "the bad guys" in order to protect their kids.

As a 14 year old, replying to what you said that’s horrible parenting. Communicate with your child about what is right and wrong, kids that age are curious and have tendencies to be persuaded easily by friends. She will find a way to experience social media whether you allow her or not and the worst part is she won’t tell you cause you aren’t someone who understands her. The most effective solution is to speak to her about the bad sides of social media and letting her have her devices back while managing her accounts so you can keep an eye on her. Of course dont let her have tiktok or instagram she is definitely too young for that but at least let her play roblox, cause in roblox you cant delete chats so you’ll be able to see all of her chats, there is also and option to close the ability to chat with people completely. As long as you do it right you can let your child have fun and not feel excluded while keeping her safe.
From what you said I’m assuming most of her friends and or classmates do have roblox and watch tik toks, if that’s true keeping this type of stuff away from her WILL MAKE HER HATE YOU, she would think the reason she is being left behind socially by her classmates and not able to participate in most conversations (which kids her age talk abt games etc.) would be your fault. She is too young to understand by herself that you are trying to help her SO TELLL HERRR

I’m so concerned for these young girls and they deserve to be protected from predatory adults. Childhood is so precious and it’s unfortunate to see these young girls letting social media pressure them into looking older than they actually are. I know…every teenager wants to feel mature and all but that doesn’t change their age. They are still minors and minors need more protection from dangerous adults. The parents are the ones who are at fault for not being a parent and protecting their children. It’s the parents responsibility to protect and raise their children. Don’t blame celebrities or influencers for someone else’s bad parenting.

I ended up getting kidnapped. For the love of God, parents, protect your children. Social media is devastating to a young mind that is so vunerable and sensory seeking. You are going to be this young for only a short time but you will be an adult until you are old and grey. Don't rush it, enjoy it!' So glad I listened to her! I didn't date in highschool, never went to any wild parties, never tried smoking and alcohol. I dressed BEAUTIFULLY without showing any boobs. I literally played outside, skipping and playing netball with my other young peers until I was a senior in highschool, even when I was about to graduate 😂😂😂 I had so much fun! Now, as I have become a full grown woman, 31 and engaged, most people don't believe how old I am. Keeping young at heart and mind has kept me fresh. It saved my innocence and protected me from adult trauma which makes kids nowadays look old. I am so thankful! 😊

No the reason why boys don't engage in such degen behavior is because they get taught what accountability and responsibility are from the day they are born and what the punishments are for degen behavior. Girls however are not, in fact they applauded constantly and applaud eachother for it. They even get awarded for it in short term. But the punishment comes much later, but by then they don't know why it is and how it came to be (Not able to find a good man or be happy in a relationship). So of course they blame men for it, not themselves which is all cycling back to accountability.
If you're a man and dare to criticize them on their degen? You are a toxic man! That is toxic masculinity! You are trying to control wmn! HOW DARE YOU! That is harassment. Women are victims of men!
Bodily autonomy? Schrodingers feminists are at the same time an empowered go-getter-queen-who-dont-need-no-man-and-can-do-anything victim-of-the-patriarchy, and depending on the situation she picks which of the two benefits her the most.
Take TokkieTok/social media out of the equation. Even before it they behaved like this, but it was less wide spread. Remember MTV and those reality programs. Social media is definitely a catalyst.

I agree in part, but even with radio and television, we regulated how those modes of communication could behave towards kids. We just take that for granted since most of us weren't alive when those debates were being had. Teen depression, anxiety, self-harm has risen in kind with the prevalence of social media. When nefarious practices were levied against kids of generations past, our lawmakers did their jobs. Now, they just grandstand at the CEOs instead of getting a legislation passed, and they even acknowledge that it's the power of lobbyists. We won't be able to just transpose the FCC's regulations to protect kids onto social media because it's structurally so different, but we literally could not be doing less than we are right now. This unmitigated social experiment we've allowed to go on for over a decade and a half is going to be looked at as a massive failing in a century's time (if we can get our act together).

I am an educator. School boards are moving towards banning mobile phones in the classrooms in Canada. We have seen a rise in mental health and diminishing attention spans. It begins in the home with proper monitoring. However, not everything can be controlled. Parent(s)/guardian(s) are often not aware of everything their children are doing, so I want to cut them a little slack. Yet, we are finding that this behaviour is becoming a "societal norm", which makes it even harder on a parent/guardian. I report every child under 18 on social media, regardless of the post. No child should be shown on any platform. It is extremely dangerous. In the past children were seen as mini adults. After, the government implemented education programs and coined the term, " age of innocence," to get them out of factories and into school. Now, the government will have to step in again because children are being hypersexualized and families are running out of tools to keep them off the internet. We as a society need to let governments know that we need stronger regulations because we are warping the brains of our children.

In the uk a lot of primary schools and secondary schools have limitations on phone use or complete phone bans. Unfortunately it doesn’t change anything because it doesn’t take long after school or before to use such social media, they just become sneakier. Young peoples ability to post on the app should’ve been nipped in the bud, including now, it’s scary how much worse it gets month after month, instead of tiktok cracking down on it, they are letting it run rampant. Parents obviously have responsibility, not all of these kids have present parents or family, and for those that do but are just not well equipped enough, won’t be able to instantly understand how to enforce digital safety, so with the parents education of such, TikTok can at least crack down in the mean time. Thank you so much for this video! I cannot explain how greatful I am to hear an adult who is willing to pushback and recognise this issue in our society. I am in my mid/late teens and this has largely impacted my mental health and, I know, has also affected many other girls my age. The feeling that our self worth is only based on our appearance is extremely degrading and damaging. It makes us feel invaluable and unwanted if we do not succome to the pressures that weigh on us from society and social media. This issue is extremely disturbing and, in all honesty, it is so perverted the way that young girls and CHILDREN are being sexualised in the media.
Again, thank you so much and please keep fighting for us x

It's so heartbreaking to hear that. Most women my age (40) have experienced unwanted sexual advances and pressure to look a certain way, but I thank my lucky stars that I was able to grow up without social media. I wish you a lot of healthy friendships in real life, and a lot of mental support and strength. You sound very self-aware and "society-aware", which I'm sure will help you a lot in dealing with these issues. If it helps at all, it really does get better as you grow in age, maturity, confidence and self-knowledge. At a certain point you just stop giving c**p about what random people think about you. I hope you can get to that point unscathed!

I’m 29 and I struggle to find Jean shorts that are not boot shorts or that are actually size 8 when they say they are 8s. The biggest struggle is finding a cute top that is NOT a crop top and not too low cut. I mean now we are seeing even for teens that the clothing is showing entirely too much skin, even prom dresses are a small top with the entire mid drift showing and a skirt. Schools need to not allow that. Most importantly parents need to parent. Stop trying to be the cool parent that’s a friend and actually parent and set boundaries. Sex trafficking is in the millions and CP is in the billions, your children are susceptible to being taken advantage of being put on the dark web. Parents should do everything to avoid their kids being subjected to that environment.

I'm 32 and I'm so glad my teen years' "social media" was NeoPets, RuneScape, and a very early version of Facebook. I remember wanting to explore 'dressing s*xy' as a teen, but for me it was just playing with an aesthetic (didn't realize I was asexual until my mid-20's). I'm so glad we have no record of that, or at worst maybe two photos of me on Facebook in a borrowed dress that was a bit low-cut at 17 years old. Every few years I look at the generations behind me thinking "thank goodness I didn't have to deal with THAT." It's been getting more like every few weeks lately, tbh.

Then there's such high standards of beauty that makes you self conscious of yourself. I really hope there is a way out of the way social media is now.

The small wage increases we got pale in comparison to the increased amounts of everything around us. It is quite literally impossible to buy even the shttiest house where I live unless you are a literal millionaire. The tiny house I rent on a tiny piece of property is worth 1.7 million if my landlord were to resell now. It's absolute fcking insanity but we have no choice but to work hard all to pay someone else's mortgage or else we are living on the streets. Foreigners came in and scooped up all the housing and land, built sht apartments to stack people like cockroaches and are squeezing the city dry. Also, in many places it's literally illegal to NOT send your kids to school, and even it wasn't it's still ridiculous that you are calling sending a kid to school or daycare "outsourcing parenting". Not every parent is capable of homeschooling etc. I went to daycare and school, had phones and internet access as a very young kid, yet I had no problem not falling into these BS traps set out by companies, perverts etc. You don't need to spend 8 hours a day with your kid to teach them basic things. We as a family focus on the real life in front of us, the beauty and the sadness of every day life. We are grounded in gratitude and I’ll be damned if I’ll let anyone, influencer or big corporation, destroy their authentic self-confidence just to make a buck off them. It helps that as I am in perimenopause I am focused on what a privilege it is to age, ie to still be alive on this planet, since the only true anti-aging product is death.

I think that it is entirely normal, and should be expected for young women to engage in this way with their peers. I just really wish they weren’t on the whole Internet.
of all the things going on this doesn’t make me worry for the future because this is nothing new. This is something we have always had to deal with in the real life . But it is absolutely despicable to watch.
in 2001 when my friend’s mother saw me being. 🐣🍳ualized - in this way, she cried. But ultimately it continues to happen to this day.
Idk , I remember being that age. And back then my intended audience was my peers. That’s what I have issue with now, and the platforms should do better to separate teenagers from the general population..

I've dealt with this as a teenage girl, and I think there's a bigger conversation to have. These things typically are the result of emotional neglect, peer pressure, and in my case you could call it "oldest daughter syndrome" where I was expected to act like an adult, so I thought it was okay for me to look like one and behave sexually for other people. I think the common thing that these all lead to is attention. These girls are not getting the proper attention from their parents, so they're trying to find it elsewhere but it usually falls flat and then when they think they've found someone to give them attention, it's just sexual

From the perspective of a girl turning 14 in 3 weeks, I agree. I’ve always been the “weird kid” for not appreciating any of the “trendy” clothes or “trendy” music. It’s oversaid and a little cringe but I genuinely feel like I was born in the wrong generation. I would have survived so much better in the 70s (I love EVERYTHING about that time even though I wasn’t alive). People in my class are so incredibly behind neurologically, I’m not sure if I see it differently than someone else, I probably do but the fact a 13 year old boy in my class had to ask what pronouns were, and what “also” meant means that there is a problem here. My secondary school teachers have to remind over half my class what a capital letter is. It’s stupid and it’s also really sad. I feel bad for them because it’s not really their fault, either it’s their parents or themselves just ignoring everything. I’m not blaming anyone for it, but I just want my school to be normal. My headteacher said, and I quote “We have had less racist comments this year than ever.” What do you mean 😭 we should have NO racist comments ever. Why can’t people grow tf up without singing about sex/ dressing like whores. Be fr.

I would say that I had a very good childhood and my tween years were very fun. I am probably allowed to have social media, but I chose not to have it and I said “probably” because I’ve never asked my parents for social media before, I just don’t want it in my life at all. I sometimes complain about my parents of course, but I am so grateful that I was raised right and grew up normally with awkward tween years, eating grass, making potions out of whatever I could find in my bathroom, climbing trees, play dates with my friends, roblox, and so much more things that never involved social media. You'll need to re-examine what you do in a couple years, because being under a parent's boot while everyone else has freedom will likely make her resent you and rebel to extremes. I really believe that a simple system is feasible to protect the youngest but social medias do not want to put it in place because yes, they would lose millions of users and therefore millions of dollars in the process!
Today many countries use an authentication system via birth number to connect to our taxes or our bank etc... setting up the same connection system would already make it possible to limit access to these platforms to adults only.
But again, the solution exists, but the social medias will never align with this system to protect the youngest because it means losing a lot of money.

Somehow this reminds me of the scene in mean girls when the little sister lifted her shirt while watching grown women do the same on tv, only this is WAAAAY WORSE because we can not switch the channel.😢 never thought i would say this, but i am so grateful that my parents were super strict while growing up. At 32 I now see their prospective. Indeed how do we get back?

I've noticed, the older I got, the more covered up I wanted to be. I was never really the sexy dresser young either and even when I was young, I didn't like the attention. I was busty from very early so the attention was too much, from men, the sexualization and from women the judgment, they made me feel like it was my fault men stared at me when I was just trying to be a child. I remember always hiding and I still do. I don't even like wearing bathing suit. Just as men are creepy, there are a lot of women that create this environment, women are a big part of this.

Most of the girls at my daughter's highschool dress like this, yet if anyone mentions how odd it is, you are called a pedo and asked why you are sexualizing teenagers.
This is why teachers are afraid to dress code them.

Preeeeach!! 🙌 This is a discussion I’ve had with many moms, quite organically, as a professional piercer. Little ones coming in to get their ears pierced and somehow I, as a parent of now adults, am understood to be someone the moms can talk to about the pressures their kids are under to physically and materialistically conform. At age 8. 6. Age *5* the skincare and makeup questions are flowing in when coming home after school. Madness!!!

The big tech companies do care to an extent, but not entirely. I would partially disagree but also partially agree as well when you mentioned that statement about these tech corporations and their care for the digital health of a younger population demographic. I don't work in the industry, but my level of prior knowledge, not personal experience from research, is how I could claim this thought, but it can be improved even more. I don't know if it is about balancing things or picking sides.

I’m 13 years old and I COMPLETELY AGREE with everything you said in this video, I literally only have UA-cam. This society is sick, hateful, disgusting, provocative, skimpy, and just overall evil. I hate growing up in this generation sometimes. I’m glad I can’t relate to any of the girls on here.

Tweens exist (I’m one of them) it’s just that other teens or just people in general bully them and call them ‘cringe’. LIKE YOU ARENT EVEN ALLOWED TO BE ‘CRINGE’ ANYMORE??
But I agree with a lot of things you say, people grow up way too fast now and follow everything they see on TikTok (like you said, TikTok doesn’t care about a child’s well-being!!)

My daughter is 25 and I CANT IMAGINE what it would have been like trying to deal with this. She and her friends used to make videos singing Hannah Montana songs with their hairbrushes as mics and post up on youtube (but certainly not dressed like that!). I mean, innocence at its finest, compared to todays world. My son is 18 and thank god his only interest in TT and IG, and such are regarding video games and 'would you rather' and reaction type videos. I go up to his school and see the girls walking around the halls in clothes that OBVIOUSLY violate the dress code that I KNOW they have, but apparently means nothing (which is on the school for not enforcing it). But super short shorts, super tight tops, tube/crop tops etc. Fine for the beach or lake but not for SCHOOL (or other public places). We live in a VERY rural area. Not in a big city, or even medium city. Our middle and high school for the ENTIRE COUNTY is in ONE BUILDING! My son and his friends (both male and female) that come over and hang out, talk about these people and not in a good way. These are good, nice kids, and wouldnt say anything to their faces, but definitely behind closed doors they do. And im sure others do as well, at least the ones with some modicum of common sense whose parents are even halfway involved in their lives (on and offline). I always say im the worlds most 'okayest mom' but .... maybe im just a bit better than that.
