Congratulations, Lionel! I'm a 60 year old man with mild cerebral palsy who's been following your journey for years. I watched your race as I was on Zwift here in Oro Valley. Just want to say thanks for the inspiration! Also - well done, Talbot! I appreciate your hard work as well. Onward!
Lionel, you are by far the most exciting and fun to watch athlete in triathlon ever. I was literally screaming at my screen when I saw you come up behind Currie
Man, the moment I saw you coming up behind Braden I instantly got goose bumps and actually started crying when you overtook him. Rarely saw a moment like that in sport, that was that amazing! Keep it going, you have what it takes. We will see you in Kona hunting everybody down!
My youngest son laughed at me at the end of the race as I cheered you on in front of my TV!! It was amazing to watch you following your plan. Kristian was on another planet this time! I can't wait to see you in the battle of Kona!
Haha yeah I was cheering for him, too. So well executed race and it was so great to see him eat up all the other athletes until right in front of the finish line.
Huge congratulations Lionel! Been following the channel for a while and this seems to be the most “at peace” you have been with a IM race in quite a while. I am glad to see things clicking for you. I think this is going to be a very exciting year for you!
Lionel, you're doing more for the sport of Ironman than most people and brands out there. You're an incredible advocate for the sport. I can't think of a better ambassador for this amazing lifestyle sport. And let me explain why. I lost my passion for the sport years ago only to discover your channel and see my motivation coming back. You're articulate, humble, charismatic, and seem so grounded and approachable for us mere mortals. Of course a huge congratulations to Talbot. I think it would be great to include some clips with your wife and parents who are so supportive of you. In a way, they're the silent heroes behind your story, which you are so generous to share with us.
Lionel Heart, I love your honesty, your defiantly on track to reaching your full potential, “No limits” You’ve really matured as professional athlete, and even if you never win at Kona, you’ve already placed first in the world for grit, tenacity, and shear determination.
The last hour of your race was so exhilarating Lionel! Congrats on your result. What you manifested in the race is really inspirational. Can't wait for your next race!
Don't know what the relationship is between Lionel and the interviewer but I respect the genuine questions but Lionel's openness, insightfulness, and depth in his responses is truly awesome. Super respect for his ability to dissect his races, training, etc. to such detail but then to be able to verbalize it all to us is oh so appreciated. Great insight and really appreciated!
Another amazing effort! You continue to inspire, and are truly doing so much for the sport. Spent the first 25 years of my life doing my best to avoid the gym, and while i did start appreciating fitness in my 30s, it was primarily an attempt to balance my less then stellar diet. Then I happened to discover your channel a few years back, and really found your story to be quite compelling. Fast forward to 2022, and i just completed my first sprint triathlon at the age of 58. If i can get my swim together, i am hopeful to make it to the Texas PTO race happening in September. Hope to see you there!
This is my first comment for a UA-cam Vid ever, but man 🚀 you are such an amazing person 🥳 thoughtful, funny, kind and humble. I'm happy for whoever wins, but I'm always rooting for you to have a great race 🎉
What, no talk of changing absolutely everything to beat KB in Kona? The world is just not what it was. Great to finally see the big dance, it did not disappoint.
Amazing how Lionel has changed over the past few years, amazing to watch, gone from being a hyper motivated, but poorly directed dude who just pushed it way too hard in training to a calm, considered, well informed professional.
It was so inspiring and moving to watch your race - Congratulations Lionel! And this series was fantastic - just keep doing what you and Talbot are doing and we'll keep eagerly tuning in.
Congrats Lionel. I was pulling for you all day and starting tearing up when I saw you closing in on Brayden. Never say die right to the line. Great race. Very inspiring.
Lionel sanders you are a world class ironman champion and certainly a tactician! Believe it brother! Well executed race. Numbers are there, just a matter of time. Congrats on the placement, we are rooting for you! Be blessed 🙌
Lionel you are a great example of how much of training and racing is mental as well as physical. You have learned so much and matured so much in your approach which in turn has had a massive effect on your physical, performance. You are an amazing role model and a great ambassador for the sport, for your openness, determination, work ethic and your amazing sportsmanship. I am excited for the next couple of years hopefully watching everything come together for you so that you can continue to be the best you can ! Thank you for the knowledge and information you give in every vlog!
When you retire, I hope you still pump out some UA-cam vids, like Nick Symmonds. Triathlete does beer mile or whatever haha. We love watching you man. Always entertaining and a great personality and attitude. And we've all enjoyed seeing your evolution and transformation. Team Lionel or death. 🏅🏆
This is what all athletes should sound like after they compete... honest, candid, and unafraid to share what the experience was like. Great job LS, you're an inspiration to those who follow, and for us AGers.
No words can describe your grit and determination Lionel! You and many others are way bigger than Ironman! Thank you for continuing to inspire us!👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
The raw emotion from all of the hard work and strategy that went into that race as you were finishing brought tears to my eyes as well. Well done man, so happy to be following this journey.
You gave everyone a reason to watch this World Championship. Very happy for your results and glad to see you finishing the run without walking. Congratulations again on your race!
you're amazing. I started running in 2020, at nearly 46 years of age. I'm entering races and did my first Marathon in toronto on May 1. It took my forever (almost 5 hours!) Whenever I struggle in my runs, I think of you and all the grit and determination, and you know what, even that walk in Coer D'Alene was inspirational. If Lionel can walk almost half the damn thing and not quit, I will too.
Ideas: Top 5 moments Worst 5 moments More content with your sponsors. Go visit them and make cool stuff. Show us more about your equipment and how you set everything up. Down to how tight your laces are. 😃 Lionel calls a pro Call a pro and ask chat about the good stuff. More food content, pre and post workout food. More in general also would be good. Maybe brake a Guiness world record somehow? Make Talbot do more workouts with you like the bike climb. That was fun watching him suffer😂 Well thats all I’ve got for now✌️
Lionel it’s so excellent to be a part of your growth and progression. Mark Allen affirmed you’re a world champion. It took him a lot of losing to become the best winner, thank you for encouraging us all
i am certainly no lionel fanboy, but that was an absolutely beautifully executed race. finally the clown no more, absolute respect, immensely impressive. talbot - maybe if you'd realised the people you're just describing as 'haters' were actually realists who maybe knew a little bit more about what they were talking about than lionel, who were proven right on the money time and again the last years and in what lionel himself has finally realised this year, instead of just listening to all the hot air from the cult fan boys, he might have reached this point of clarity and maturity a few years earlier.
You tell your story Lionel, but I don't know if you realize how helpful and inspiring this is for us. So many great lessons here. Thank you and congrats on an amazing race!!!
Such a amazing journey of Lionel . Back in 2018 you came here to Clermont Fl and we talked after my run and your ride . I drove away thinking this young man has the drive and will and will push through ups and downs and learn moving forward . Your 2nd place in Kona 2017 and your 2nd place in STG worlds apart because you learn and grow . If Scott Molina can win Kona in 1988 or Mark Allen in 1989 , both over coming many years of obstacles to win , you can to . But honestly you are a winner now , the PEOPLE'S CHAMPION , thanks for taking on your journey. Thanks Talbot as well
Hello Lionel, greetings from Paraguay We were cheering the race and shouting those last meters. I admire a lot your past and how you evolved. I hope to see you in Kona at 1000%. A big hug
So I wasn’t the only one crying when he made the pass! Even the man main himself was crying. This makes me feel better. An unbelievable effort by you, Lionel! You have no idea how much you inspire mere mortals like us age groupers. No limits and bring on the rest of the season!
Thanks so much for your inspiration, you are such a humble champion. Great to see you get the success you deserve in the ironman distance. Keep it up, we can't wait to see you race again.👍👍👍
I have four words to describe LS's IMWC race: preparation, plan, discipline, execution. Oh yeah, one more: satisfaction! His approach to the race is a great lesson for all of us; in a nutshell, have a plan and stick with it.
You are one of the reasons that I’m still in this game. Its not an easy for such person like me coming from a place no clue about triathlon (just war) to a place that I’m preparing myself to race CanadaMan this year. Thank you Linoel to be a role model.
Great video!! Superb shots, great content, right length, and Lionel always an inspiration. My 15-yr old draft legal triathlete son can't get enough of you! Thank you for teaching him how to think before, during, and after a race. Also, how to commit to something you love. We are proud of you!
Very inspiring. I am doing my first IM distance in Tulsa next weekend. Best advice I have heard is run your own race, don’t blow up. Way to stay calm and stick to your game plan!
The shot at 3:22 is incredible. I presume you shot that Talbot and it's very well done, forever raising the bar with this. Great race Lionel, was following you ever step of the way.
There are a certain 2d places that are worth much more than the 1st ones. This 2d place is one of them. Thank you for the inspiration you bring in the world, Lionel, and for the example you give. Thank you for this self-denying and genuine honesty you stood in front of us with. We see: our kid has grown up!
Great race LS, happy to see how you executed the race in a way that made you proud! and great to see you taking decision based on you believe (in regards to the bike). As for feedback on the show, and Talbot's great work, I wish you were able to do the regular race series as well the interviews.
Absolutely phenomenal restraint shown on the bike! This is was without a doubt your best race from a strategic point of view. Don't change a thing for Kona and take home the championship.
Lionel’s best Ironman yet! I’ve never understood why athletes and coaches harp over and over again for people to “run their own race”, and yet most people--pros and amateurs--then talk about how they planned on doing “X”, but decided to do “Y” when someone put in a surge. If a person knows their body well, then “running their own race” should yield the best possible potential for that athlete on that day, period. That’s what Lionel did…..and I don’t know if this will earn him a World Championship, but if he sticks with this mindset, he will finish at the top every time and some day retire knowing he tapped every potential watt out of himself and walk away happy….and a true champion. He’s already a true champion, but maybe someday, the World Champion.
I'm a Kiwi and the guilt of cheering you on over Braden has been eating me up. Brilliant race effort! Giving me 👍 insights into the patient execution mindset. Flagstaff altitude camp?
You are a great story teller. You will write a great book. Also a different perspective to you that the one you see on yourself: You are without a doubt, the strongest long distance triathlete EVER lived. Lionel, damn you...you ruined my Sunday training keeping me up all night in Taipei watching you do your thing. It was so worth it! I love this video,, love your message about Ironman and how to enjoy it, and absolutely inspired by your journey!
I lost it when I saw you coming up on Braden Currie. I think all of my neighbors heard me cheer you on. Amazing performance. I am very thankful that we can be part of your journey. Keep doing your great work. And thank you to Talbot as well.
Great to hear how you paced your own race, not getting caught up in the excitement at the start of the bike, and holding steady right through to the finish - sounds like a perfect masterclass in how to judge effort in an Ironman, fantastic and a great result - well done!!!
Amazing Interview! Loving where your head is at and getting there must have been a challenge!! You continue to redefine your self and stay grounded while inspiring so many people!! Thank for sharing your journey!!
Oh lawd me too! My baby was asleep in my lap and I was yelling GO GO GO and fist pumping and yelling YASSS!! Baby woke up like 🤨
Same. I was on my indoor bike yelling at the ipad
You should have seen the UA-cam broadcast chat. About 3000 messages screamed through over 60 seconds lol.
@@rogerc23 Haha yeah that was such a beautiful moment 😂
It’s refreshing to see pros like Lionel keep their race number tats on for days afterward just like us mortals. 😁 Amazing race. Well earned.
LOL I get rid of that crap as soon as I can and don’t apply them unless mandatory
😂 because that crap is so hard to remove! I stopped using it because of the struggle afterwards.
@@pvelardeNP same here :)
Big Congrats Lionel, if 2nd at the World Championships is the start of the season I can't wait to see what comes next
Lionel does stuff that normally only happens in movies. Makes the sport very exciting to watch
