This movie caused less violence than Frozen 2
Why so serious?
Funny thing is Frozen and Joker honestly tell a very similar story: mental illness. However, one did it brilliantly while the other failed. Watching Joker really made me realize where Disney went wrong there. Mental illness is FAR more complex than fear or isolation. If they made Elsa more sympathetic (say show her being treated like a freak repeatedly and told she can't be the future ruler, causing her to be very emotionally unstable), I think people would have responded to that film VERY differently.
Not sure Disney and todd.phillips were going for the same movie there bud
Jack Napier well, look who’s laughing now
Thunderbird 1 I mean... Joker tells the story of how mental illness... justifies? being a sociopath and a killer. That’s worse than Of Mice and Men.

"With the bare minimum of Batman it took to get the movie made."
All of which was completely unnecessary for the movie's plot.
It was kind of unnecessary, but it shows just how deep the relationship of the Joker and Batman is. At the beginning, he thought that he and Bruce were related because of Thomas' "affair", but it turns out they weren't. But when the actions of the Joker almost directly resulted in Bruce's parents' death, they became connected forever because of that.

“Do you feel some type of way about society? This movie does!”
Perfect summary of Joker.
I don't know why but I lost it at "Lil' Wayne" Such a great joke. You some kind of joker?
The way I see it, the movie is not about the origin of THE Joker, just an insight into the often deranged nature of Gotham City and how it can break a person, who becomes A joker, who obviously provided inspiration for THE Joker but isn't him.
When you release yourself from the idea that this is THE Joker, you'll open yourself to seeing a damn interesting film, one which keeps the mystique of the Joker in-tact.
That’s a pretty interesting idea. Kind of reminds me of what Gotham and Cameron Monaghan did.
Exactly that's what I thought while warching the movie...he is not going to fight batman...he just represents how gotham city made people like the joker

I swear Joker was almost an exact replica of 80's-90's New York City. The set designer should win an Oscar for that alone. From the Buildings to the garbage to the taxis and buses they even managed to get the old red birds with a few slight alterations.
More like 70's-80's
Well they filmed alot of it in the Bronx a few blocks away from Yankee Stadium (Shakespeare Ave being where the stairs are) and that whole Grand Concourse neighborhood hasn't changed too much since then so it was a perfect spot to film in. I live not too far from there and during my first viewing I was able to tell where it was filmed just by the building architecture.
I'm still salty this movie got no award for that
Keep in mind also that Gotham is supposed to *be* New York at its worst and lowest moments in its worst neighborhoods, so 70s and 80s New York is a perfect depiction.
I think Todd Philips openly said that he was inspired by 70s 80s NYC

This movie is a masterpiece. So glad you reviewed it with the respect it deserves.
This wasn’t the incel movie we were told to expect at all, once he realized his relationship with his neighbor was imaginary he respectfully left and didn’t bother her again. Not bad for a stalker.
Pretty sure he killed her. We don't see her after that scene where she finds him in her apartment.
@@bugman511 they would tell us if he killed her, and he might be crazy, but he wasnt crazy enough back then to murder a woman who he thought he was dating the whole time. Or he might just be crazy enough to keep her alive and obsess over her forever
They strongly implied that he killed her. He shows up in her apartment, scares her and does the 'blowing out his brains' gesture again, then it cuts away. We never hear that she calls the police or see her again at all. Not to mention that she was acting pretty scared of him, I figured that alone might set him off if he thought they were dating. It's possible he didn't hurt her but I don't think she survived.
I don’t know why anyone would say he killed (don’t remember her name). It’s shown that he doesn’t kill indiscriminately, it’s only people who have purposefully hurt him. Since she never hurt him like that it’s very unlikely he would do the same.
@@jonesjones6279 He kills his mom who hurt him without meaning to do so. He killed the social worker at the end of the movie who didn't hurt him at all. He killed his neighbor/imaginary girlfriend.

Joaquin Phoenix deserves that best actor Academy Award 🏆
I don’t see anyone acknowledging the fact that “from the studio that won’t release the Snyder Cut” is one of the best lines ever
What's that?
Because the Snyder cut doesn't exist.
@@BloodyAltima I'm not entirely sure what it's referencing.
@@maxman1602 So the conspiracy theory goes that (and you can find more in depth videos on the subject, I'd recommend Folding Ideas) when Zack Snyder left the production of Justice League, significant alterations were made to make it less miserable (because every Zack Snyder movie is a miserable edge fest devoid of point) that contribute to the move having a complete lack of consistency. The theory goes that if you can find it, there exists a cut that is Zack Snyder's original cut, minus the alterations. The problem is that while on the most technical level such a thing exists, it's actually literally unwatchable- it'd be like four hours of entirely unedited footage with no special effects or anything.
@@yonarp Because it technically exists, in that there exists somewhere a 4 hour long take of the film with no editing or special effects, which you'll note, is not a complete, finished movie in the slightest.
