Thanks for checking out Polyphia, the whole band is nuts, from the Clays (drummer and bassist) to Tim and Scott (lead guitarists) they are all world class. In the same vein you should watch Playing God Unplugged, with Tim playing just by himself. The camera is focused on his hands the entire time. The guy is like on level 10000 on his instrument, he makes it look so easy...he is so in the flow state. Its so incredible. Tim is without question one of the most influential virtuoso guitarists of this generation and will go down as one of the greats of all time. He's already know for his unique sound and monster skills on guitar. But I think its his unique composing style that has already been called out by Steve Vai and Joe Satriani that will be remembered. He's like the Paganini of guitar not using a single technique but mixing them like colors that he can use to paint his creations. He's not held back by convention. His mind, they way he approaches composition is just different. Just watch any of his making of videos. Its really interesting. Keep reacting, check out the rest of Polyphia's catalog, so much music...so many styles....remember if something doesn't float your boat....try something else....they are always experimenting. Playing God is from there most recent album, but I would suggest you check out G.O.A.T, O.D, Chimera(Playthrough), Neurotica (Band Playthrough), Ego Death (fea. Steve Vai), The Audacity. Tim has also said he is working on a solo album so keep an eye out for that!!!
Polyphia is what happens when you toss Latin, hip hop, jazz, classical, rock, metal, pop and a couple of tablespoons full of maple syrup into a blender and punch the purée button.
A lot of people appreciate Polyphia but don't feel it's musical or actually like it. Idk I feel like they have a really strong pop/trap drive that is kind easy to groove to. Like there's a ton of ornamentation but underneath I feel like I can actually sing the essence of the melody of Playing God or GOAT all the way through and it's still a great song AND recognizable. Btw as a guitarist, this song is massive. The very compressed sounding and percussive nylon string guitar they are playing is/was a brand new model that Tim based on an old failed Ibanez guitar he found somewhere and this music video single propelled it to being the best selling acoustic of 2023. I thought I pre-ordered mine IMMEDIATELY but I still had to wait months for it. I had played guitar for a bit in high school but Polyphia and the soundtrack for the game Doom Eternal got me to start again. Speaking of which, segwaying off of your discussion of some jazz players you knew who were also into metal, there's a great video of a jazz pianist breaking down some of the rhythmic choices in the Doom Eternal soundtrack that is great.
Another really interesting one to check out (including the music video) is 40 oz. Polyphia has a lot to offer and interesting music ideas to explore! Loved the analysis in the end!
Hearing you mention the choral arrangement of Duel of the Fates at the end reminds me of a song by Dimmu Borgir. They did a show/tour with a full symphony orchestra and a choir. I think you might enjoy it, at least for the choral/symphonic aspects, as I don't know how you feel about metal. If you're interested, it's this one. ua-cam.com/video/xlD5zePSzdQ/v-deo.htmlsi=UleB13gFITV8aalh DIMMU BORGIR - Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse (LIVE - FORCES OF THE NORTHERN NIGHT) It's not the same level of bombastic energy that Duel of the Fates has, but it's definitely powerful in it's own way. Very theatrical. Also, always down for more Polyphia. They are truly wizards. Would love to see you cover anything from their second album, Renaissance. It's super slept-on in the youtube scene and I think it's still their best album overall.
Goat, Bloodbath, 40z, Chimera, look but don't touch... Basically all their songs make for good reactions Also the unplugged playthrough of this is cool
Dude, you are hilarious. I dont think I've ever seen anyone enjoy anything this much.
Bro is completely stuck between analyzing the song and rocking tf out. Hype reaction 🤘

This is exactly what I keep trying to tell people. As soon as they hear no vocals they tune out. How do I get them to understand!!
Your reaction is really contagious. 😂
I don't think I felt this before, but you made me smile throughout the whole song. Lol
I felt the same way!
Love how much the music moves you man❤️ watching you react to great musicians is how I react to great music when I’m high😂😂

“wow he is…. handsome” is the perfect reaction of seeing tim henson for the first time
Great reaction, I loved how into it you were.
Really great review! Excited to see you watch more of their videos and give your feedback!!

Check out Moyun's cover of this on her Guzheng, a traditional Chinese string instrument. It's very mesmerizing
Everytime you say ughh yeaahh i wheeze 😂

oh! so happy to see this one, I absolutely love polyphia. Moyun does my favorite cover of this song on the guzheng.
I highly recommend G.O.A.T next if you really liked it, it is so good!!🙏❤
GOAT is amazing in that the entire song is 4/4, but almost none of it sounds like it is.
Another great guitarist, complete other style, is Yamandu Costa. Check his song Samba pro Rafa.
Good stuff
could you as well react to ego death by polyphia feat. steve vai?
