I watch Masai Russell's videos and Abby seems really nice and down to earth. I am cheering her on 100%. And Masai as well of course. Seems like a solid team spirit at Kentucky. Competitive and supportive.
Just a few years ago, Abby had a serious knee injury. Unbelievable. Can't wait to see her compete in the world championship in Eugene. I am surprised she does not have a higher profile out of Kentucky with national fame and NIL money.

What everybody’s missing here is her strategy. She deliberately slows her start….it’s the same strategy Donovan Bailey used in Atlanta to win gold. A human being can only accelerate for 60 metres. All the other runners in this race accelerate for the first 60 metres and then begin to decelerate. Abby begins her acceleration at approx 40 metres - and it shows, bc she is the only runner accelerating while the others fall back. Check out Donovan at the 1996 (?) Atlanta games, he runs the same race she does.

As a Canadian, is was especially exciting! and so I paid a lot of attention and listened to his coach talk about their strategy (can’t recall the coach’s name) after the race - that’s where I got that info. If you look at Abby’s 100 metre race and Bailey’s in Atalanta, you’ll see that each is third from last at the 40 metre mark, then they accelerate and blow by everyone. I’m not an expert, so I can’t explain why this strategy was successful in each of these races 🤷♀️

Been following Abbey for three years now. She would have won the 200 meters at the 2021 NCAA championship and made the Olympic team had she not been hurt last year.

wonderful young runner! from my years as a runner myself, the only advice I would give her is to work on her arm movement, if she bent at the elbows more there would be less drag..also, she has a wonderful stride, but her back kick is a little high, meaning her leg does not touch the ground as fast as it could..thanks for sharing your video!

Not unless you take basic physics into consideration. Headwind means the body encounters air physical movement contrary to the direction it moves. It's like swimming against the current. You swim a lot faster against a weak current than you swim against a strong current. Other than that, indeed, you have to run a 22: 51 to be recorded as a 22: 51. No one was crediting her with that time.

You have to realize how wind works in the 200. It's almost an even playing field in the 400. She might have barely broken 22 if there was no negative wind. Not 21.5
YOU have to understand how wind works. Swirling, cross directional winds don't neatly play into your pat, negative/positive wind - home brewed formulation.
@wally john or is it a bigger deal in the 200 because your legs are fresher in a 100 to power through the same distance of headwind? fatigued legs in the 2nd half of a 200m into a headwind...you're running into it for 100m in either race, one with fatigued legs, one with much fresher legs. Abby is my hero (along with Athing Mu and Sydney McLaughlin). It seems it was 100 years ago that I played college football and basketball. Then I became a fan of professional basketball and football (NBA & NFL). But today, I wouldn't say I like watching professional sports. I became a women's track and field fan. I watch reruns of these three female athletes on UA-cam all the time. I can't wait for the track season to start. Go USA. I had another hero named Allyson Felix, but sadly she retired.
Definitely keeping an eye on her but folks like Terrance Laird we're dripping crazy times super early in the outdoor season last year, then the times fell off. Hopefully she doesn't burn herself out, Worlds are here (the US) this year & peaking twice in a 2 month times span is HARD.
I thought exactly the same thing. Laird was primed for a huge showing and the long college season caught up with him. I hope all the college athletes get some time to rest before Worlds. USA track has a great future if our athletes can stay healthy!!!! Can't wait for Worlds!
