To get this song is to have a knowledge of world history. Most kids will not get this until they have learned about these events and the evils within. I didn't get this when I was a kid, I did get the Kennedy's reference and Lucifer but it wasn't until high school when I learned the other references and then the song made total sense.
I was too young to understand the references, but old enough to be curious. I mean if i wanted to be cool, I need to know what the Stones were singing about.
My Dad's favorite songs by The Stones, were from 1968-'71. (I'm 55, my Dad died at 84) My brother and I took our Dad to see The Stones, in Chicago in 2005. Dad was amazed that this group, only a few years younger than himself would be so energetic and do a concert over two hours (less drinking, less drugs - healthy!) He was glad they still played these classic tunes.
Fun facts: Anastasia was seventeen during the Russian revolution. Olga was twenty-two, Tatiana was twenty-one, Maria was nineteen, and Alexei was thirteen. Dad (Tsar Nicholas II) was 50 and Mom (Empress consort Alexandra), was 46.
A large part of the message in the song ~ is that the "Devil" is a scapegoat ~ so we can blame someone else for the bad things all of us do at times ~ when we are finally ready to stand up & be accountable for own actions ~ maybe we will start to think first
@@Nuerth Agreed, of course. Just thought that I would add, what the song is about from a surface level, taking it in its literal form. I see that interpretation being rationalised all the time, but, taking the song, it its literal guise, remember that devil is the father of lies, as well as being extremely prideful ect (man of wealth and taste), it’s the way he would present himself, biblically speaking, at least
Nice to see you're gaining more subscribers! I'd suggest your next Rolling Stones reaction should be a live upbeat song, so Zoey can actually see what "moves like Jagger" means. 😊 Enjoyed this reaction from you two.
The first time I heard this was at a piano bar in Boston. I don't know if there are any piano bars left in America but this was the best thing ever. This was back in the early 90s. But this was so amazing that I will never forget it. As far as I could tell, it was just one piano as I didn't see any other instruments. And I don't know who it was playing and singing but he was just killing it. Everyone at the bar was just going crazy. And it wasn't like a concert either just a piano bar. But I tell you what hearing this played on a piano will change your life. If there are no longer any piano bars left in America, we need to start this trend back up. So amazing.
There was a great piano bar at the Holiday Inn near the southern entrance for the Skyline Line Drive in Winchester, VA. Late 1970s décor and a smoke filled bar. Man I wish I could re-live that era again. Just for one night though.
Hello again Miss Zoey and Dad it's good to see you again. I think Dad may have forgot for a moment her idea of "old" music and his is very different. I am very happy to see the 2 of you sharing this and having a good time doing it. I have to admit her excitement had me doing the Woooooo Wooooooo part of the song right with her.
She will get it in about 6 years. I played Neil Young's Cortez the Killer for my daughter when she was 12 expecting to feel it the way I do. She didn't. 5 years later, I over hear her playing the song for her friends telling them "can't you feel the pain in his guitar". I cried..😢
Shawn, Zoey, good reaction. The beat is infectious. Zoey, your facial expressions are hilarious. Suggest:...."Out of time" "Tell me" "In another land" "Lady Jane" "Ruby Tuesday" "On with the show" all by Rolling Stones......woo woo
This is good parenting. Hopefully you can get her interested enough to find out about some of the things they are referring to from history. Thanks for reacting Zoe!
Definitely one of the classic rock bands of all time...The Rolling Stones. Great song is Sympathy for the Devil 🎶🎤🇬🇧. Great job by both of you...and great to you Shawn for reaching the 20K mark..congrats sir..
Sympathy For The Devil...could it be that the Devil is being out done by the human race so he (or she) is feeling sad? The Devil be like "Damn, I hurled a big ass comet and wiped out the dinosaurs and along comes the humans who just wipe out themselves." Poor old Devil is no longer the worst thing to happen to 'ol planet Earth. He tries but gets out shinned so please feel sorry for him. Great review and more Stones! Rock on.
You should check out the movie Crossroads...with Ralph Macchio and Jamie Gertz...for another really interesting and very musical take on the Devil. If you have ever enjoyed the legend of Robert Johnson going to the crossroads to sell his soul to the Devil to be the best guitar player ever, then you will love that movie.
Watching a little Bright Angel listening to Lucifer explain that sometimes people are just as bad as himself is a complex thing. Innocentence is such a powerful thing.
You need to check out the live version from their 1969 album - get yer gas has out!!! Mick Taylor on the last lead!!! Why the Stones are the #1 live act in 1969-1973
You two should take a listen to 12yo Kaylee Rogers singing Hallelujah ( holiday version) with her special needs school choir . Singing helps her overcome autism
hey Shawn and Zoe, its been lovely to see you both reacting together, although I wouldn't have chosen this one for a 13-years old... listen to your daughter, Shawn: take her to Disney land... I won't suggest any other Rolling Stones for her... just wait another 3 years for that stuff... what about Mamas & Papas: California Dreamin' or Monday, Monday 😎
Would love both of your reactions to a song called Iron Sky by Paolo Nutini (Scottish artist), but the version done live at the Abbey Road studio. ua-cam.com/video/ELKbtFljucQ/v-deo.html
I think, thirteen is sometimes to young to understand the meaning of songtexts. But otherwise old enough to harm others, sometimes for no reason. Same in US and Europe meanwhile. I'm am an '72 and we didn't have this problems in my youth.
Yeah I'm with Zoey, don't like the name. It undeniably has a tribal beat so I can look at it as a reminder of who " He " is. Great reaction Zoe and Shawn.
i think the lyrics were way over this young ladies head--thank God , she'll have plenty of time and opportunities in her life to get introduced to the devil.
Yes, if there is no God then there's no devil and the universe created us. Of the universe created us then there is no real right and wrong ( good or bad as you call it) so there's no reason for us to get on each other for doing what we want to do ( or better yet what the universe created us to do). No one has a monopoly on "right and wrong". Everyone should be able to do whatever they feel like doing
One of the most cleverly written songs ever and a history lesson too. Enjoy! 😎

Most adult reactors don’t get the references either. Drives me crazy. Zoe will be ahead of the curve.

@@BClarke The lyrics really help. It took me years to figure out many of the words.

Great reaction to a great track and congrats on hitting 20k subs!
Thank god for a Lyrics video! For years I've always thought that Jagger was singing "What's hustling you".
Love this Stones track with it's tribal feel. You two are making me smile as always. Great reaction. Blessings all. Peace.
I bet Zoe would like 'She's A Rainbow'.

The Graffiti in the video partly reminds of the Album cover to Alice Cooper's 1972 record, "Schools Out", of which the titular song Zoey might like.
I love Nicky Hopkins piano playing on this, as much as I love Roy Bittan's piano playing on "Paradise By the Dashboard Light" by Meatloaf.

Based on the classic Russian novel “The Master and Margarita” by Mikhail Bulgakov. Jagger read it in the 60’s. Fantastic book.
