Mask is Chaotic Neutral now. Read the Erevis Cale novels or listen to the audiobooks and you will found more detail info about why and how he change. In the second sundering books finish the tale and set Mask as the god he is now. Aaand was also worshiped by assassins but not as the god Bhaal.
Malar is one of my favourite gods in the FR. I once played a halfling druid who worshipped him and his philosophy is very fun to play out, especially when we were in Barovia and I still had the “undead are unnatural” excuse to side with my fellow players... for a time at least, until their foolish weakness grew too extreme. 😌
I played a Rogue who kept dying/going-unconscious, and when she did she got visions from different Gods of Chaos. Chaotic Evil offering Power, Chaotic Good offering Magic & Wonder, and Chaotic Neutral offering the only thing that actually matters...GLORIOUS GOLD! She became a Phantom Rogue/Trickster Cleric who at 12th level - after attaining a kingdoms worth of gold, created an undergound Cathedral/Thieves Guild to mask, with a false alter to the Luck God directly above. Reestablishing Masks presence in Waterdeep.
I am a DM and seeing these videos I really wish my players knew about Forgotten Realms. As it is, when I mention a deity or a specific creature I am almost always met by blank stares, it hurts the narrative to explain everything.
I accidentally set up the perfect scenario for Malar to be competing in a hunt with Yeenoghu in his layer of the Abyss, my players will be hunted by each with their respective packs. Haven’t decided how this ends yet I’m open to suggestions.
I remember encountering Malarites in the Nwn2 main campaign and the expansion Mask of the betrayer. There was definitely something sinister about them. I think both times I interrupted their hunt. They were willing to move on and not fight but I was playing a Lawful Good character so I couldn't stand by and let them kill the people they were hunting. They gave me a tough fight. But I had always been curious about Malar after those fights. There was definitely something very evil about those hunters.
I played a Luckbringer (specialty priest) of Tymora back in AD&D times and had a great time. Basically a cloistered cleric who kind of stumbled into adventure and overcame most challenges by sheer luck rather than skill. He had a crossbow with the habit of completely missing its targets on the initial shot but then doing some crazy accidental ricochet trick shot into the enemy's back.
Now, what if you're a charlatan Bard who's taken a couple level dip into fighter (for action surge) and a level into warlock (hexblade) and you've chosen Mask as your patron? Kinda trying to figure out how much input Mask might have in my little rapscallion's life.
My new group needed a Cleric, so I came in as a Lizardfolk Cleric of the Nature domain. They don’t yet understand who “He who paints the briars red.” Is, but they will... In time. :)
After you get done with some of the gods would you be inclined to make a mention of some of the more famous worshippers? R.A. Salvatore has a good trilogy based on a cleric of Deneir, god of writing.
I wanted to have a powerful, motivated antagonist in my 5e game. I decided quickly that I wanted them to have many positive aspects that could easily make them seem like a good guy, one of these was a strong desire to respect nature. I looked through the pantheon and Google to find a god that would fit this, and I found Malar. When I realised he was also the god of Lycanthropes, I thought "Ah, perfect" because now I can have a man driven to "free" others from the curse of society, by literally transforming them into animals.
So I have a genuine question; Malar being a god of beasts and of the hunt, while he's the lord of evil lycanthropes, would Vampires count as followers and hunters? If not, who would Vampires follow as a deity, aside from Strahd; considering he's not a god.
when you say more info about mask is tied to the books, what books do you mean? you are showing the core rule book for 5e (which don't say much) but do you actually mean the novels? I'd be interested in knowing what some of the better novels might be if you know. thanks for the great video!
In the description I link books that I grabbed information from for my videos. So for this one check out "Faiths and Avatars", and "Faiths and Pantheons". They have a bit more information on Mask. Hope that helps! I'll probably stick with the forgotten realms unless I hit my patreon goal. Which I said I'd cover another campaign setting if I reach it. If and when I do feel I've covered enough of the Forgotten Realms then yeah, there's loads of other campaign settings to cover :)
Bootleg Soda The one from Eberron? That's a different campaign setting than he's doing. Idk if he has plans on doing Eberron videos once he wraps up the Faerun gods.
I believe Eberron was the highest voted game setting in Jorphdan's poll about which other setting people would like to see. So I'm sure he'll get around to it soon.

Thank you.
Malar is a great villain or patron to enemies. The wild chaos of a forest with a Malar worshiping group of werewolves.
Leonardo Matias how about werebadgers
Werepanther
werebear
Weremoose
All viable options my friend. I went with the classic one.
I'm running a high forest campaign for my family and a Uthgart of shoot tribe has fell to the worship of malar and became werewolves
Mask's story during the time of troubles is the most insane awesome stuff ever
IKR!
The relationship of Mask to his Chosen is fascinating.

Same problem my dude always the same problem lol
Best Malar video I could find, well done. Short and sweet.
I accidentally set up the perfect scenario for Malar to be competing in a hunt with Yeenoghu in his layer of the Abyss, my players will be hunted by each with their respective packs. Haven’t decided how this ends yet I’m open to suggestions.
I’m building a lawful evil halfling that’s a paladin/rogue whom’s deity is Mask!
I remember encountering Malarites in the Nwn2 main campaign and the expansion Mask of the betrayer. There was definitely something sinister about them. I think both times I interrupted their hunt. Thanks for your work on these!
I like Malar a lot.

If there is no central structure to the group, then it definitionally can’t be a cult, only cult-like
Sucks that Mask is dead, he was one of my favourite's in the novels.
Mask?? Naw, try a thief that fallows Tymora. lol, never a dull moment.
Have a Trickery Domain Cleric of Tymora in my new DnD group. Fun times!

2:23 "powerful priest of malar"
I freaking love this series
Love the punchiness of the outro now!
Love the FF tactics nod!
Thank you Jorphdan!
Another great place to host an adventure involving a malarite cult is the isle of Moray in the Moonshae Isles.
hah I found a diety you havent done yet....The Cat Lord of the Tabaxi....
Read the Erevis Cale books. Really goes into mask and his possible origins
Homebrew idea: what if Malar grew the ambition to take layer of the abyss for himself?
Mask!!! Finally

Cleric Quintet is a great read. Highly underrated for sure.
Certainly not a trilogy
My longest played character was a 3.0 Fighter/Rogue/Assassin, I have stories for days. I didn’t know Mask was so popular.
Do you not know how the governments operate? Mask is all about that!

oops

Can you do the travelar
Not a Forgotten Realms deity, sadly.
Don't forget to do Moradin.
Is Mask and Brandobaris the same? I know Mask is more powerful but are they the same "person" just two different deities?
I get the feeling when mask takes his mask off their is another mask…. Possibly infinitely.

Is it possible that a deities seek out somebody that seems to embody the church's dogma?
Eg. Mask & jarlaxle
I always think Mask's and Cyrics Body language is super similar in art depictions
After you finish up with the forgotten realms, do you think you will make videos about other pantheons?
I'll probably stick with the forgotten realms unless I hit my patreon goal. Which I said I'd cover another campaign setting if I reach it.

Jorphdan cool. Sorry if you have made this clear in past videos. New sub here.
Mask is a Badass
why did you show a chuul for malar...
hey can you do an episode on the Last War?

Mask 3:04
Hold on the fury gods serve who?
Wanted to create some bad druids in my game. Guess they're followers of Malar
Thankyouuuu
What does the PH know that you don't want us to?
MASK followers also tend have pretty amazing EYELASHES ;)
(maskarans in mascara)
Maybe she's born with it?
"Maybe it's Maskarans"
ayy lmoa
Bootleg Soda I
Mask is my frigging daddy. My greatest wish is to play a Rogue that follows him!
You should really read the books.
I should! I finished War of the Spider Queen and moving onto others. Slow and steady!
Mask is the worst god. Edgelord material
You mean Cyrik.
