Like the "Thinking out loud", as you progress the design.

I was wondering if that was more annoyance or if anyone found it intersting. I really appreciate the feedback. I typically "design" my projects as I go and most of the time the end result differs from the original draw up. Thanks for the feedback here. Thanks for watching.

Hi deez, I'm replacing bearings in my headstock. The symptoms was the headstock housing getting hot and you could feel the bearings " rumbling " . Bearing pre load was not the issue in my machine. Try disengaging gears and running lathe, if noise persists its the bearings but check out the drive system from motor pully to headstock first. 😊

I plan to check everything, Remove the Belt and pull the Banjo away and see whats making noises. Unfortunately I suspect the issue being bearings. After longer use my headstock does also get warm, I wouldnt say hot but warmer than I would expect. Plus the noises. I will record the process. I have never replced bearings before or done this kind of work so I will be learning along the way. I may hit you up for advice. ;-) Good luck.

@@deezworkshop hi dezz, I will help any way I can. There are lots of vids on utube on changing bearings on mini lathes . The only thing is which type of bearings you want to use ( tapered or angular. ) both do the same thing but angular are sealed and you have to be careful not to put them in the wrong way. Look forward to see the results from your investigation.

Great Idea also make your self a carage stop for your lathe ? ty for shareing great ideas .

Thanks. I find that sharing ideas motivates me to create new projects and make new things. I do have a carriage stop on my list but haven’t decided on a design yet. I think I will make one that mounts in the center of the ways bed vs trying to mill the an angle to fit on that area of the lathe ways.

Hey Deez, I notice the clicking stopped when you reverse. Since you reverse the motor direction it is likely you have a bearing issue.

Thanks, Good ear. I noticed that too. I didnt realize this could alsso be an indicator of bearings but I really do think its bearings. I have to figure that all out. Sizing, what kind to get, how to do it. All new to me. I will be researching and watching others videos on this topic to wrap my head around it. I plan to share my experience. Wish me luck.

Hi deez, nice project but the lathe sounds like it has a bit of an issue ( gears maybe?)

I have an issue in the headstock for sure. Unfortunately I believe it’s bearings. I’ll be tearing jnto the headstock very soon. I mention it in a couple upcoming videos but it’s getting pretty bad and needs addressed. Good hearing.
