Actually, gaming isn't the only thing a PC is good for. PC is great for entertainment and graphic design, video/audio productions too. I'd say it's even better than a Mac if you take the desktop route since you're free to upgrade to the bleeding edge hardware which Macs lag behind or you can upgrade little by little in accordance to your budget instead of buying a whole new computer everytime. Also PC is cheaper option making video/audio production and graphic designing more affordable and flexable. PC has tons more advantage especially in today's age.
@@DreamyAbaddon it's always had more options. The appeal of the Mac (more so back then) was that you didn't need to "know" how to do ANY of that shit to use it. "Creatives" gravitated towards it because they could jump right in and start editing. Whereas on PC, you had to know which software to buy/install and you had to be a nerd or enthusiast to know which setting to tweak and know they're buried to get the most out of the PC. Mac was more of an all-inclusive (in its own way EX-clusive) out-of-the-box experience.

These commercials were always so charming, well directed and well acted. Whether you use a Windows PC or a Mac (or if you're like me, both) there was no denying that this campaign was one of the best of all time.
It was a great campaign, but many years later, nothing has changed. Windows still has the huge market share worldwide. Windows is still used by US gov't, US military, and the largest corporations.

sleepydash actually, when you game through boot camp, your games never run like they would on a pure Windows machine, boot camp is like an emulator with Windows running over Mac OS. And actually you can get a PC and install Mac OS and Windows with a dual boot system if you really like the Mac OS that much. But for the best gaming experience, windows is the way to go because it the games will run like they're supposed to on the operating system they were designed for, rather than being emulated. Also Mac's were never really meant for gaming, they're actually designed like a workstation with multi thread performance for multitasking and CPU intensive tasks such as video editing. For the price of a Mac, you could build a gaming PC with 5 times the graphics performance in videogames.

I was a Mac zealot in the ‘90s but I learned a grudging respect for PCs when I worked a series of jobs where that’s all they had. They really are quite capable machines, and Microsoft has a tougher job in some ways than Apple does, having to create software that runs on a vastly greater variety of hardware configurations. Apple on the other hand does have a deep sense of design and taste that truly sets it apart among corporations. I prefer Macs and use them at home but to each their own, live and let live I say. You’ll be happier. And these are damn funny commercials. John Hodgman and Justin Long -- what a great pair.

I have nothing against Apple, but why do they characterize themselves as a douchebag-hands-in-pocket egotistical teenager? I would much rather hang around the friendly 30 year old businessman. These advertisements makes me sort of hate Apple a bit, because they act like they're "*So much better*" when they're basically on par with each other. I prefer PC, because it allows for a lot more flexibility than a Mac. The Mac is good for work, but not what I do. Sure, the PC can get viruses, but who cares? If you know shit about shit, than you could easily dodge that. I also hate how they advertise that Mac CAN'T GET VIRUSES! when in reality, any technological device can get viruses. It's shit like this that makes me not want to buy a product.
The truth is, any of the computers can be good. It depends on one's opinion, for example, you like the PC. But I like both, to me they are both the same operating systems. I just got a PC hours ago.The price is fair, it doesn't make a sound (other than when it is supposed to), it's a billion times faster than a mac, I can choose whatever keyboard I want, millions of OSses to choose, my monitor is fantastic, it is lightweight, I can find any software I want and use it, it doesn't have problems with overheating, my mouse if comfortable, volume controls and everything comes with every PC. I built my computer... I have had no BS... It has not crashed once... its just as fast as day one... I have not had any adware, malware or viruses... How? I dont download freemalwareprotection.exe, or cleanmypc.exe. I only download files if I know they are safe. If its even close to questionable I dont download it. Problem solved
Besides MagSafe having returned on the new MacBook Pros, there are some third-party magnetic USB-C charging connectors that work like MagSafe, plugging into one of the Thunderbolt/USB-C ports on the 2016-2020 MacBook Pros and 2018-present MacBook Airs. I got one for when using my M1 MacBook Air on the go, and it does the trick nicely (though I tend to find myself plugging said magnetic connector into my Falwedi USB-C hub if I need to use any USB-A devices or read an SD card or output to HDMI).

Back in those days just about everything on the internet was geared for Windows. I had an iMac and I was disappointed so many times because they didn't have mac versions of things. Got rid of the mac in 2005 and never went back.
They tried these ads here in the UK with two well known comedians and it totally failed. We sided with the loveable, nerdy loser PC and hated the smug Mac. They pulled the ads after a week or two.
Came here from an article saying They failed in the states too for the same reasons. Mac comes off as a bit of a dickhead and people thought the ad was mean spirited
My PC is a dual-partition Windows and Ubuntu. Since I adore the Linux mascot as well as Diddy Kong, I call it my Rareware-Linux PC. Funny enough, these ads came out in the Golden Age of Internet with a HUGE fanbase of Tux as well as the Dark Age of Microsoft, not just Vista, but of Microsoft's Rare as well.

One of the reason the ads is so good for me is because it's just basically a friendly conversation here. It's short, actually funny, and creative. It's not "haha you suck!" ads that people try to do now.
The way I’ve always seen it is that these ads are super entertaining and after seeing the end of the one Apple event where are the PC guy returns, I figured it would’ve been nice to bring these ads back. And personally I think of it this way, each computer platform has their advantages and disadvantages. You can say the same for Linux as well. I’ve been a PC user for many years. I still use those today although I’m a primarily a Macintosh user. But I like to use all three platforms considering that they all have their own unique way of doing things.

Mac can "game' Gta V because it is very well optimized but if you want the full experience switch to pc. Otherwise I have been playing Forza Horizon 3 and BF1 and mac can't support that.

It feels weird seeing Mac ads that try to make Windows out to be the stuffy business nerd computer and Mac out to be the cool kid average person computer considering I've never heard of people using Mac outside of really, REALLY specific tech/work stuff while Windows is basically everyone's first and default computer and Linux has the hipsters covered.

PC gaming was extremely niche especially compared to the console industry. Not particularly worth mentioning since it adds another layer that most people wouldn’t get or care about.
Ironically, modern day mac-vs pc is the total opposite. I'd be hard pressed to find someone using the mac as a student device, instead of using it for music and video production. Or glazing and saying that "16+GB of RAM costs huge amounts of moeny because muh professional workload" It's basically become windows and occasionally linux laptop/desktop users being the casual, sensible normal person while the mac users spit fire and breathe metal (literally metal).

Whereas on PC, you had to know which software to buy/install and you had to be a nerd or enthusiast to know which setting to tweak and know they're buried to get the most out of the PC. Mac was more of an all-inclusive (in its own way EX-clusive) out-of-the-box experience.

You can also install bootcamp and double boot windows onto a mac so all the games are available and run even smoother. Oh wait, you can't do that on a PC? Sorry.
sleepydash actually, when you game through boot camp, your games never run like they would on a pure Windows machine, boot camp is like an emulator with Windows running over Mac OS. And actually you can get a PC and install Mac OS and Windows with a dual boot system if you really like the Mac OS that much. But for the best gaming experience, windows is the way to go because it the games will run like they're supposed to on the operating system they were designed for, rather than being emulated. Also Mac's were never really meant for gaming, they're actually designed like a workstation with multi thread performance for multitasking and CPU intensive tasks such as video editing. For the price of a Mac, you could build a gaming PC with 5 times the graphics performance in videogames.

I was a Mac zealot in the ‘90s but I learned a grudging respect for PCs when I worked a series of jobs where that’s all they had. They really are quite capable machines, and Microsoft has a tougher job in some ways than Apple does, having to create software that runs on a vastly greater variety of hardware configurations. Apple on the other hand does have a deep sense of design and taste that truly sets it apart among corporations. I prefer Macs and use them at home but to each their own, live and let live I say. You’ll be happier. And these are damn funny commercials. John Hodgman and Justin Long -- what a great pair.

I have nothing against Apple, but why do they characterize themselves as a douchebag-hands-in-pocket egotistical teenager? I would much rather hang around the friendly 30 year old businessman. I prefer PC, because it allows for a lot more flexibility than a Mac. The Mac is good for work, but not what I do. Sure, the PC can get viruses, but who cares? If you know shit about shit, than you could easily dodge that. I also hate how they advertise that Mac CAN'T GET VIRUSES! when in reality, any technological device can get viruses. It's shit like this that makes me not want to buy a product.
The truth is, any of the computers can be good. It depends on one's opinion, for example, you like the PC. But I like both, to me they are both the same operating systems. I just got a PC hours ago.The price is fair, it doesn't make a sound (other than when it is supposed to), it's a billion times faster than a mac, I can choose whatever keyboard I want, millions of OSses to choose, my monitor is fantastic, it is lightweight, I can find any software I want and use it, it doesn't have problems with overheating, my mouse if comfortable, volume controls and everything comes with every PC.

Besides MagSafe having returned on the new MacBook Pros, there are some third-party magnetic USB-C charging connectors that work like MagSafe, plugging into one of the Thunderbolt/USB-C ports on the 2016-2020 MacBook Pros and 2018-present MacBook Airs. I got one for when using my M1 MacBook Air on the go, and it does the trick nicely (though I tend to find myself plugging said magnetic connector into my Falwedi USB-C hub if I need to use any USB-A devices or read an SD card or output to HDMI).
That's why I still rock my awesome MacBook Pro 2015 specced out: I will have it till it's dead - that's, 9 years now still going strong

Back in those days just about everything on the internet was geared for Windows. I had an iMac and I was disappointed so many times because they didn't have mac versions of things. Got rid of the mac in 2005 and never went back.
They tried these ads here in the UK with two well known comedians and it totally failed. We sided with the loveable, nerdy loser PC and hated the smug Mac.
They pulled the ads after a week or two.

My PC is a dual-partition Windows and Ubuntu. Since I adore the Linux mascot as well as Diddy Kong, I call it my Rareware-Linux PC. Funny enough, these ads came out in the Golden Age of Internet with a HUGE fanbase of Tux as well as the Dark Age of Microsoft, not just Vista, but of Microsoft's Rare as well.
However, even so, Apple doesn't have a suitable mascot like Master Chief or Tux.

One of the reason the ads is so good for me is because it's just basically a friendly conversation here. It's short, actually funny, and creative. It's not "haha you suck!" ads that people try to do now.

The way I’ve always seen it is that these ads are super entertaining and after seeing the end of the one Apple event where are the PC guy returns, I figured it would’ve been nice to bring these ads back. And personally I think of it this way, each computer platform has their advantages and disadvantages. You can say the same for Linux as well. I’ve been a PC user for many years. I still use those today although I’m a primarily a Macintosh user. But I like to use all three platforms considering that they all have their own unique way of doing things.

the people in the ads are still good representatives for the pc and the mac.the pc looks old and boring until he pulls out of a super fancy restaurant with his wife in a bugatti.
mac looks super hip and smart but goes to his part time job at mcdonalds on a bicycle cause he got student loans for going to college for a gender studies degree.

Except mac can game... It can run Minecraft, CS:GO, GTA V, Tf2, Terraria, Rocket League, Stardew Valley, League of Legends, and alot more. All at good FPS. You can also install bootcamp and double boot windows onto a mac so all the games are available and run even smoother. Oh wait, you can't do that on a PC? Sorry.
Mac can "game' Gta V because it is very well optimized but if you want the full experience switch to pc. Otherwise I have been playing Forza Horizon 3 and BF1 and mac can't support that.

Washu Ken The hardware is also better for daily tasks. Macbooks are super thin and lightweight to take them out, at the same time Retina display monitor, plus lithium polymer battery that gives you 7 hours of charge every time. And lots more that I just love about Macs.

It feels weird seeing Mac ads that try to make Windows out to be the stuffy business nerd computer and Mac out to be the cool kid average person computer considering I've never heard of people using Mac outside of really, REALLY specific tech/work stuff while Windows is basically everyone's first and default computer and Linux has the hipsters covered.
At this point in history it was basically the opposite. Final Cut Pro and other software existed but it wasn’t what people were buying Macs for. You were paying the premium for a hassle free experience. Even back in the 80s it was like that

HP, Dell, and Lenovo dominate Windows PCs, and they work great. And price vs performance is far beyond the Mac.

Did you notice that he never brought up PC gaming? One of the biggest reasons millions of gamers never switched to Mac.
PC gaming was extremely niche especially compared to the console industry. Not particularly worth mentioning since it adds another layer that most people wouldn’t get or care about.

I'd be hard pressed to find someone using the mac as a student device, instead of using it for music and video production. Or glazing and saying that "16+GB of RAM costs huge amounts of moeny because muh professional workload"

Alex Mauney Actually OSX has always been faster and easier to use than windows. That's why I switched to OSX after a decade of using windows. But if you think windows is better, please enlighten me.
I mostly prefer Windows because its much cheaper, its more customizable, and its overall more user friendly. Not to mention, I use my computer mostly for gaming.

I love how none of these adverts point out the amount of software that doesn't work on a mac, and the fact you are stuck with a single piece of hardware until a new mac comes out because most hardware doesn't work with mac. PCs are just more upgradable and better all around.
