- We have uncovered an old forum site and comments from Cartoon Network City's original debut! It's surprising to see their thoughts are similar to what a lot of us think nowadays. But what are your thoughts about their opinions from back then? Love it or hate it? Comment below!

7:12 Doug Preis was the final announcer of the Powerhouse era from 2002-2004... he had such a weird deep voice, and I can see why. As a kid I didn't care for this obviously but when you had Tom Clark from 2000-2002 who was way more enthusiastic, energetic and superior, I can understand why ppl were not happy when Tom Clark got replaced by Doug Preis in 2002. Phil Hartman was the first announcer of the Powerhouse era during the early months of it then passed away in 1998, so then from 1998-2000 was a mix of Frank Welker and Harry Shearer, Tom Clark from 2000-2002, then Doug Preis from 2002-2004. Keith David did the action & anime bumpers & promos from 1998-2003.
I just looked them both up. I gotta be honest, their voices sound very similar so I never even noticed they changed. I can definitely hear Doug is deeper, but ehhh I dunno. I like(d) it. And considering they loved City's VA because she's "sexy", I'm surprised they didn't like the deep voice guy 😆
Yeah, I can understand people weren’t too crazy about Doug Preis. I like Doug Preis just fine, but he’s no Tom Clark. Tom Clark is the best announcer for me. He’s like the OG hype man of CN at the time, and I love it.
It’s nice that almost everybody love the CN city era when it first debuted, and posting this video was a perfect time, considering CN’s city anniversary was just coming this Friday. Anyways, I really enjoyed the CN city, it was a very neat idea to see characters crossover and interacted with each other. But I can’t help the fact, that lasting two years of this era is too damn short, considering powerhouse lasted longer, and while the City bumpers are still very memorable and the CGI still holds up fantastic, I also still can’t help the fact that those bumpers are kinda a bit on a limited side, granted I know CN city bumpers are expensive to make, but I wish they could’ve done more with it, like a mini story arc of the city era or maybe exploring the worldbuliding of it. But despite my grip, CN city is the last time CN was truly great, because the channel started to go downhill after that, even tho it did improved in 2010 with regular show and adventure time’s existence, but sadly 2013 went downhill again thanks to TTG.
I remember when it premiered but never fully experienced it. Only times I seen it was on the weekends and during the summer. Only things i didn't like about this era was the logo change and the end of Cartoon Cartoon Fridays. CN city would've been perfect for Cartoon Cartoon Friday's.
But my main gripe with the logo change was that you couldn't do anything creative with the 04 logo. What they did with the checkerboard logo was creative as they found different ways to incorporate it into bumpers almost to the point where it became a character of it's own

@@JamieSnowdenYTThe On-Air DVD has a lot of bumpers that are in my presentation (I do have slightly more, aside from later bumps that they also threw into the DVD). The highlights of On-Air are probably everything but the bumpers lol.
So probably watch the presentation first, then watch the contents of the disc.

I love CN City, plus the 2004 Cartoon Network logo was also very creative.

Great video. What a hilarious look back from all the reactions to the CN City branding. It was such a wild time.
Honestly, I’m glad people really enjoyed the City branding. As much as we all love Powerhouse and the classic checkerboard logo, I think it’s about time to do a rebrand. What we got is fantastic. Plus, I don’t mind the new CN logo. At least with City, it help push CN as a brand forward, not backwards as an easy way to compete with their rivals.
Granted, there are some opinions I don’t agree with ( like calling the logo “obstruction” or “generic”; I personally seen worse), other than that, we can agree that CN City is the best branding for Cartoon Network we have ever had.
Personally, I love Powerhouse to death, but I love CN City just as much.

WOW lol those replies & statements from when the CN City era premiered on 6/14/2004 are very interesting to say the least… Nikki’s voice was really good but sexy? 😅I’m like ughh ok lol 😂 but yes most people really seemed to enjoy it and some didn’t… the ones that did not like it basically didn’t like the new logo… I remember at the time when it first came out.. I wasn’t a fan of the change but it grew on me as the years went by
I think the problem was that the original logo *bug* A: took up a bit less space onscreen and B: Because the OG logo was busier and didn't have large areas of one solid color, it kinda blended in like an analog TV glitch of that time would.

Cartoon Network City is still memorable and missed.
Maybe it's just nostalgia speaking but CN City era with the quality shows and bumpers were the best times on CN. Since then the quality went down so bad IMO. I'm glad those shows and bumpers are on the internet. I can't think anything better than a parent to show their kids and watch with them the cartoons from their childhood. Unfortunately i can't have kids but just the thought fills me joy

It's interesting to see How Nuanced Opinions were back then, everyone is so Hyper Polarized Today, it's actually sad how backward we've gone, I miss Intelligent Nuance.
