In fact, it was a fellow organizer within the Civil Rights Movement, a gay man, Bayard Rustin, who said he had never seen such blatantly shameful behavior as he saw among the leaders in the Civil Rights Movement. ALL of them had girlfriends in every city and town they went to. I liken this to the Bill Cosby sexual assaults: On the one hand, Bill Cosby DID bring positive images to America and beyond of Black family life and successful Blacks as business owners, professors, attorneys, scientists, etc., instead of wild, half raised, broken home, drug pushers, teen moms, prostituting for income, etc. On the other hand, you could say Cosby didn't practice what he preached, because in his private life, he exhibited behaviors that were no nos in his TV series and comedy routines(clean comedy).
