Loved this to death in the arcade, couldn't beat the third level, but finished it repeatedly on C64. It's quite surprising how similar this feels to Thunderforce 3 on the Megadrive, including the spaceship level followed by the alien base.
Much like to the 1987 Irem/Nintendo arcade game R-Type in feel of play. There is no randomness to the levels yet it is very challenging. The game has rather colorful and attractive graphics and a rather catchy musical track. You can collide with (and die from) the terrain. One very unique feature of the game is the dragon is multi segmented. The tail follows the heads movements in a "Snap the Whip" type of motion. Only the head is vulnerable so if you are to do a tight circle then put your head in the center your are mostly invulnerable.
Hey, what a nice and odd shmup... Loved the character and concept design, with a touch of "metal H.R.Giger" pattern... Never heard of it. Have to take a look these days on MAME. Thanks for the video.
This game is insane... is a coin suction source... I remember that one of the machines were placed on the mini market next to my home... I spent a lot of time seen other losing their money... I never played this game on that machine. Now I can play unlimited times for free!!! Not even then I could win LOL
after watching the c64 and amiga versions i thought the last level was missing as the final boss is so disappointing. I see now the arcade is the same. Still love the game though, especially the first level, which i didn't get much further than.
Jaleco has always been a subpar developer with a few exceptions, both in the arcade and home market. This shooter is one of the few exceptions. Not a great game, mind you, but still a decent and fairly enjoyable arcade game.
An evil force of monster machines has risen to conquer the Galaxy. One by one the peaceful races of the Galaxy have been attacked and enslaved by the Cyborg Monsters. No race has the strength to stand against the power of the Cyborgs. One lone rebel rises from within the ranks of the mechanised monsters. Part dragon, part machine, the Cyborg Warrior fights back against the tyrant masters. The Galaxy has a Hero. Hope returns to the hearts of the people at the rise of the armoured champion they call "ST DRAGON".

These guys made RType 3 for Super NES but this game is closer in looks to RType 2. RType 3 has great mode 7 and good graphics pretty badass game

Thank goodness for that "immunity from bullets" mode or you would have not nearly gotten as far! Hahaha. One of my favorite games.

Played this first on Amiga (quite nice conversion by Storm). Level 2 was a nightmare for me..

Sylvalion is another arcade Game with a dragon that his only weak point is the head.
I wish this could be a Disney movie that's based on the game.

The Turrican 2 final boss theme sounds way too similar to the normal noss fight theme of this game

Lazy final boss (and goofy-ass one legged robot enemy) aside, this was an R-Type wannabe which understood the assignment.
