I've had the 6L6 Anniversary for over a year now and I have quit looking at amps. I've owned and sold a Vox Racing Green AC15 and a Tweed Fender Bassbreaker 15. I've never liked Blues Jr's no matter how hard I've tried. I've A/B'd against a Stapleton Princeton (my dream amp) and I can cop similar tone with my Flint. I will own either a Stapleton or 68 Princeton reissue someday but not at the expense of letting my Blackstar go. It's the perfect pedal platform bedroom amp, and plenty loud for small gigs. I don't use the gain channel too often has a cocked wah type sound although not terrible just different. I run Flint, Fulltone Octafuzz, Mini Tube screamer, EP booster, Catalinbread Formula 55, and Flashback mini. They all sound rich and textured. The Blackstar, flint, and EP booster are made for each other btw.
I've only tried the 6L6 in person and I really enjoyed it although I could not hear if its meant to be tweed or blackface style. I used a Gibson ES-335 Either way I liked what I heard. The British flavored EL34 sounds equally satisfying I'd want both. At home currently to get both American and British sounds I have a 73 silver face Champ and a Marshall class 5
I got the 6 L 6 Artist, a dream, few knobs no big dial in, sound clean and crunchy.and lead via footswitch...one of the best amps I found so far? ( may be I need the other 2 as well)
Ŕeally great comparison really informative. Can anyone help? Which of the two amps stay cleaner louder and for longer before the clean tone breaks up? I believe the 6L6 is probably cleaner but does the amp design keep it cleaner longer than its stablemates. I'm going for an amp test drive next week. Thanks
@@@AndyYNWA_1892 Suspicions confirmed. I'm glad I was able to score an Artist 10 AE (6L6), from Sweetwater (dot) com here in the states at about $220 off regular price. couple days ago...I was considering the Studio 6L6. Granted I'd rather have the blonde than the black of the Artist, but that's ok for the cash savings.
@Aiming Wanderously Same here, I like the cream and red 6L6 better than the all black Artist. But it’s not worth the price difference. I will get an Artist as soon as I have the funds. Are you pleased with your Artist?
@@AndyYNWA_1892 Just got it yesterday, played only about 2-3 hrs on it, and yes absolutely. If you want distortion and gain for a humbucker guitar, stay away. I got it for my Tele. If you want glistening cleans, country spank, and edge-of-breakup blues & classic rock, by all means this is the amp. And LOUD! Will easily keep up with acoustic drums and then some in a jam session.
@@AndyYNWA_1892 I should edit my comment as it was too hasty. It does a fine job with humbuckers and higher gain. I plugged my SG into it and I was impressed by its gain ability w/ the drive button engaged. Even at half gain (drive engaged) it's go a nice ACDC tone, with gain up you can do hard rock very well. The Artist 10 is impressive in its range. Brad Paisley to Hendrix to Green Day in one amp.

Find yourself an EL34 version and start down the road of Wet/Dry or Stereo! I can promise you won't be disappointed!
Same old story - prefer clean 6L6 and driven EL34 tones - that's the magic formula!
Amen to that!
I love the clean 6L6, but a drive pedal works wonders on it to get extra beef if a person couldn't afford another amp. Bass response of 6L6 is great.
So true
It would have been even better if you had used the same guitars for both amps. Had shown the differences better.

6L6 for me! love it (clean sound +++)

Wish theyd give ya a better speaker with this combo! An upgrade to a creamback would sound amazing. Really excited to try this with pedals tho

EL34's all the way!!! Add a greenback and it's a wonderful amp
what do you call British sound ?!!!
Drive like Marshall and/or Vox sounds ?!!!!
Thanks!
Uhhh bridge pickup please.
So these are just re-branded Artist (6L6) & Artisan (EL34) amps? And the KT88 is a rebranded Series One?
Yes... But with new aesthetics. And these are not limited, as the Anniversary series was.

I like the 6v6s in my rockerverb mk1!
I want one of these. But I also want blackstar to move back to Korea.
Are they loud enough?
Is black star made in the uk?
Designed in the UK. Made in China.
