  • Caleb's got something in a sling today. Fortunately, it's his "Grey Ghost" rifle that he's fitted out with the CSF Sling from Forward Controls Design. If it's from FCD, you automatically know two things: (1) the product is very intelligently thought out to the last detail and (2) it's very high quality. CSF means "Carbine Sling, Forward Controls," and it's a straightforward two-point sling built for hard use, with the look and feel of quality that inspires the confidence a well-made product gives you. It doesn't do anything other slings don't do, but it does it very, VERY well. It's easy to use, intuitive, and very durable. End of story? Not quite!
Caleb gives us a walk-through of the CSF Sling from front to back. It accepts any standard pushbutton QD sling swivels you choose (not included, must provide your own). The slide assembly is bounded by high-quality reinforced molded polymer keepers (triglides). The CSF adjusts very easily and smoothly, but when you want it to stay put, IT DOES. The nylon webbing pull tab for making length adjustments is easy to find by feel. You don't have to take your eyes off whatever's going on in front of you while you adjust the sling. A quick-release buckle at the rear lets get out of the sling PDQ if you need to shed your rifle in a hurry.
Why polymer keepers and not metal? Aren't metal keepers another sign of quality? Caleb points out that in a life-vs-death situation - maybe you're snagged on a vehicle and about to get dragged - you can use the force of your body weight to break the polymer keepers to free yourself. That's assuming you don't even have time to hit the quick-release buckle.
FCD offers the CSF Sling in standard colors, plus some extras: basic Black, Tan, Goose Grey, Ranger Green, Woodland, Multi-Cam, and Caleb's favorite, Multi-Cam Black, which looks great next to the grey receiver of his rifle.

It’s my second favorite sling behind the Arbor Arms Dual Adjust Rifle Sling. Awesome stitching and adjustment. My last one the webbing was just a tad bit wide (not exactly 1” wide) that had the adjuster be a bit harder to use than other CSFs i had. Overall it’s a great option for most people.

I can’t tell if the awkward over explanation on every little detail is an act or Caleb is just UA-cam gold.

Thanks for the plastic buckle explanation. I always wondered about the reasoning. My Magpul also has metal/plastic and I always assumed it was a cost measure.

Yeah its actually stronger than many think. If you're caught up in a sling chances are the weaker buckles and triglides are behind the area that's being squashed and yeah its harder than many think to just power thru it like they say lol. But yeah it's feasible I suppose. I make most of my own as the ones sold are too complicated, stiff, and costly. Myself I use plastic simply because it makes less noise when it hits the rifle and other metals. It also won't scratch up your rig like metal will. Lastly it don't rust, as if you get the sling wet they'll hold water for a good long while.

2:08 That's a "Bar Stitch". The square pattern with the X in the center is the (Bar Box pattern) standard for end stitching a strap. Not new or special.

This sling in a nutshell. About 50% of what FCD sells is genuinely good and the other 50% is hypebeast rollmark paypig horseshit

I just received this sling. It’s feels very delicate and cheap. With shipping, it’s not worth $70 plus dollars. This sling is a thin piece of fabric with plastic fasteners. I respect Forward Controls but this sling feels like a $20 piece of gear I’d put on an air soft toy. I will continue to use my Vickers and Magpul Slings. Those slings, with polymer pieces feel like tanks compared to this sling. This will reside on a .22 long rifle AR. I can’t believe Brownells is promoting this item as durable.

It's fun watching people get tangled up in there fancy slings.
There's a reason the militaries of the world use as basic of a sling as possible. I make my own basic slings so I can have nice materials and color to match my FDE obsession.😊

Yes. The reason is usually "they're cheap, and switched-on troops will buy a better one anyway"

I have this sling on my Benelli M4. My only complaint is that it likes to twist around a lot (based on my usage), and it can make it a little hard to tighten the sling all the way.

Another reason, IMHO, to use plastic fasteners on slings, is metal sling fittings hitting the metal on the weapon creates much more noise than plastic on metal....

    QD buckle on the sling?
    Why?
That's what the QD at the front an the rear are for.
That buckle seems like another potential failure point, with no real benefit.
I'll stick to my Blueforce Gear Vickers Slings.
