Roy was an immense talent, one of a kind. No one sang about heartache like Lonesome Roy. He wasn't blind. He started wearing sunglasses because of the bright lights onstage and it became his trademark look. True story: When Elvis was just starting out, you could book him to play a concert for $100 a night. A concert promoter in Texas - I wish I knew his name - booked Elvis to play five shows in five different Texas cities in one week. At two different shows that week, two young Texas boys saw Elvis and decided to start making music themselves. Their names were Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly. We owe that promoter so much.
Hard to go wrong when your backup band includes such luminaries as Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Bonnie Raitt, k.d. lang among others. The whole concert (Black and White Night) deserves to be watched at least once a year.
This looks like it was from the TV special "Black and White Night" from 1987. This song was originally released in 1961. You should listen to the original and see how little his voice has changed in that time.
Haunting. Beautiful. Heartbreaking.
I could not stop smiling . . . as You were smiling and enjoying this beautiful work of art.
His voice was so unique and wonderful.
Elvis was supposedly quoted as saying that Roy Orbison was the one singer that he wouldn’t want to follow on stage. Thanks for sharing!

Elvis said that Roy was the best singer he had ever heard. Roy returned the favor by saying he was Elvis's biggest fan
Classic, both of them.
The man was "officially" credited with an ability to sing in 3 octaves, but unofficially dabbled in 5-6... once-in-lifetime talent
The look on your face when you realize you are listening to the voice of an angel is priceless
