    can you show how to wire the trolling motor to the 60 amp circuit breaker. And the 50 amp circuit breaker to the lights & accessories. then tie that into the master cutoff switch?

    you should also use tinned stranded cable marine grade and keep loads away from battery posts where corrosion happens from outgasing...go to a terminal strip away from battery....a shunt on the negative side for proper amp/voltage meter to monitor all loads and charging

    What size fuse would you recommend when running different gauge wires like your fuse block setup? Would you go according to your higher gauge wire?

    Doesn’t ABYC require fuse within 7 inches of battery bank? First, before switch.

    Best practice: Coat the conductor with dielectric grease prior to crimping. Heat shrink is only a form of insulation, NOT waterproofing, although it's great at hiding corrosion!

For your installation, did you leave your shore power charger connected to the batteries or are you only using the Rover/Renogy charger? I’d love to stop by and take a look at the installation. We bought our Pearson from an owner out of Swan Creek but summer it at Grays Inn Creek Marina. We commute from Cincinnati and will be back on June 29th for a few weeks.

      @@jonelliott9157 for now i still have the shore power charger connected, i need to get the inverter and then i will only need shore power for the HVAC. the battery charger will be available if needed.     Good video but one question. If you’re hooking up two batteries, how is the second battery hooked up to the switch?

      It's not directly. Once the batteries (two or more) are connected they form one "bank" or unit either in series or more likely parallel as he showed, so remember take positive from the 'start' of the battery bank and negative from the 'end' of the battery bank. In this example, the red positive feed wire would be exact as it was and the yellow return would go to the negative terminal on the last battery in your bank.

    Hi I've just watched your video and I have a 50hp tohatsu outboard I also hAve a blue sea dual distribution cluster which I want to connect to 2 batteries in my wilson flyer but I am unable to find out the correct information of how it should be wired up with the charge unit for the 2 batteries as I want to use the original fuse holder which has all of the nav lights on it already wired up including the fish finder WIRES. Please can you help as I have watched your video and understand that if you wire negative to negative and positive to positive as you did in your 2nd example will this safely charge up each of the batteries in turn?

    Got any more of these videos? I think it is a series you are doing, but I don't know exactly how many you will produce. When you do get back to food production, could you do some pressure cooker meals? You could do the stove top cooker or an InstaPot or something like it. Not in a hurry on that...I like these just fine... I am enjoying them immensely Dom...Was looking for a new one and thought I would offer a word of encouragement.

      thks Allyn, I am working on the next video for this series, but I have not found anyone with the knowledge to talk about inverters. But am still looking.
      I don’t have a pressure cooker, but that is a good idea. I have a cooking videos scheduled for today at 3 eastern time. Hope to have one every Tuesday going forward.

      @@VagabondEpicurean Well yes it might be hard to find someone to talk about inverters. Will Prowse on youtube has some good inverter videos. I will tell you that as a boater you want a pure sine wave inverter, true sine wave inverter, or certified true sine wave inverter. The pure sine wave inverters usually are good enough. A lot of people make the mistake of buying a modified sine wave inverter, or sine wave inverter, and they end up cooking their stuff....your electronic stuff. My favorite inverter is the GoWise PS1005. A very reliable and well supported Pure Sine Wave inverter typically available for $189 off amazon. It is great for boats and powers my cabin right now that I am working on with a 100 watt Rich Solar solar poly-crystalline panel($81) and a 12 volt battery. I have a 40 amp Epever Mppt solar charge controller(The one that is a big heat sink looking one with the fins) which with all the bells and whistles is about $204 on Amazon. You can get PWM solar charge controllers at 30 amps for less than $15 on ebay that would likely do 200-300 wats of solar on your boat...just not as good as an mppt solar charge controller. So for $300 you could get solar on your boat. Since I am only at the cabin once or twice a week, it powers everything but aircon and refrigeration. With 200-500 watts of solar your boat could power refrigeration (minus aircon)and everything else typically. I think you could get at least 200 watts on there as is...Go watch Will Prowse's videos and then talk about the inverters on your own. You will do fine.

    I believe the light circuit should be fused on the positive side to protect the wire if a short circuit was to occur. Did I miss the placement of one?

      I think that is a fuse board with individual fuses where the gauge is stepped down, I guess you could put one after the light switch itself (or maybe that too was fused).

    ABYC code requires a fuse on or within 7 inches of the battery, does it not?

      Yes before the battery and a quick Google search said 7" or 40" if in a sheath.

    Shouldn't you have the main fuse/breaker as close to the battery as possible? In your circuit what happens if the cables shorten between the battery and your main switch?

    I want to install one of those on/off switches by my cranking battery. I don’t understand from your video what wires go into the switch and what wires come out. Great video btw. I can’t find any info anywhere on how to wire in this on off switch anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    The fuse should come as close to the power source as possible. In this case, before the main switch.

    Why not more that 4 ring terminals on a post? Could I get away with copper wire on a boat and not tinned copper wire?

      Tinned wire is more corrosive resistant. I have learned that even the air around saltwater carries small amounts of salt. I would not recommend using regular wire. Not sure why max 4 rings on a terminals. the ABYC does a LOT of testing.

      @@VagabondEpicurean I was panning on using an inline fuse for my Sonar. The wire for the inline fuse is 1 ft long and 12 ga. I was then going to extend the length of wire to the bow requiring 18 more feet of 10 ga wire. Can I put the inline fuse near the battery even though it is 12 ga or do I have to attach near the bow just before the sonar? BTW, my boat only sees fresh water......

    One thing 'you' don't seem to use is liquid electrical tape. After I crimp a terminal I shove liquid electrical tape inside all areas of terminal i can get it in before heat shrinking to positively seal it from any salt air or water getting to wire strands. Too many times i have seen wires with adhesive shrink that still have areas water and salt air can get to strands. I have had to rewire failed wiring done by others too many times. You also never mentioned using dielectric grease on all connections you can get it on. I also disagree with you on spade terminals. Use 'ring' terminals instead of spade terminals, they are just so much more dependable and eliminate more potential wire troubles. ***Dielectric grease and liquid electrical tape is your friend long term when wiring is used on a saltwater boat! Learned my lesson on depending on other peoples wiring techniques!

      Well I wired.my 25Ft cuddy W/A with a 4.3L I/O I used 250Ft of 16 gauge for electronics and another maybe 30Ft of 6 Gage for grounds and power all tinned copper wire! All crimped with sealing heat shrink! That was 25 years ago this year! My boat is docked in salt water all summer every summer since I Bought the boat 25 years ago! The only thing I use Dielectric grease on is my light bulbs! I did not get to the part in the vid where he said he uses fork terminals, But I can tell you that the USCG says to use only ring terminals! If you are using high quality marine grade products you should not have any corrosion or issues! Also liquid electrical tape will dry out and crack over time and it will leak! If you had to redo failed connectors most likely the reason was poor workmanship or crappy materials! People think because they watch a UA-cam video they now know how to do it just like someone that has been in the business for over 20 years! With everything else in life practice makes perfect, So why do people think they can watch a video and now all of a sudden they can do it too! People say boats are money pits I say the people that throw money into boats are the people watching videos and doing their own work! I've been boatng over 30 years, I had to be towed in one time, Due to a brand new condenser that failed after changing it with the points 2 weeks earlier!

      Put dielectric grease on top of connectors, not between connector matting surfaces.
      Dielectric = not conductive.

    Don't touch bare wire with your bare hands.
    Skin oil will add resistance.
    Use the thickest lugs you can afford.
    Imagine the cross section of the wire compared to the cross section of the lug's neck cross section between the wire and the hole.
    Spade lugs are for low current circuits.
