Spot on review. I have a Glock 19 that i spent $400 to get it where i like it. The FNS-C9 IS awesome right out of the box. I carry my FNS-C9 as my every day carry now. I'd take my glock in to full on combat but my FN is my #1 concealed carry now.
Hey man. I really like your reviews, pretty informative and comprehensive. I'm an FNS9 owner and I love it. I agree it seems better than the 509 in most ways. I don't understand why FNS isn't more popular. I've been racking my brain for a couple weeks reviewing and comparing specs on subcompact carry guns and after multiple store visits and spec comparisons of 20 or so guns...lol looks like I'll be picking up an FNS9C. It was down to FN or a Glock 26. Shouldn't have been as difficult as I made it I guess. Anyhow great vid. Be safe. Thanks for your service!
good choice.. n it is always tough decision... at least 2 me usually lmao.. im a die hard glock fan... n it kills me but this gun is mafe better, higher quality... but still love my. glocks too... 😁😁😁
@@jeffd3802 Got mine from Dunham's too early this spring. I like it almost as much as my CZ's but a very reliable firearm eats every ammo type I feed it.

One of the best reviews I’ve ever seen, awesome video thank you for sharing, I own both the FNS-9c and the FN-509 . Your review, spot on. Thank you for your service.
Thank you for your service from a veteran (RET) to a LEO. Your review is one that was very informative. I too am a FANBOY of FN firearms and one caveat to your review is the grip angle no over correction at POA. These firearms are seriously under rated and should be IMO up there above M&P and the SIG P320 . FNS and FNX just run and run. Accuracy is on par with your CZ’s IMO as well. Great review!!!
I gave the FNS9C a chance because of my experience with the M249B. It’s been (5) years now. I worked the hell out of the trigger with dry fires very early. I was blown away by the butter it became. Then I started getting a slam fire mid magazine on all my mags. Sent it back in. I don’t know exactly what they did to correct it but the trigger work I did was lost. Probably cycled 600 through it since for a total of roughly 1500. Eats it all and handles very well with its bore axis. Good purchase for large hands. Fit and finish worthy of the price tags.
Nice review. Thank you for your service. A couple things. The 509 was designed from the 9c technology . The lock block and slide system are nearly the same. I carry the 9c every day. Love it. Not crazy about the 509 but the New 509 midsize has some promise and i like what I’ve seen so far. Thanks again for a great review. Keep em comin.
I appreciate it. I don't use a script or a list and also don't put any range footage in these videos. I generally just try to think of what I'd want to know if I was thinking about buying the pistol and roll with it. They generally all come out to around 20 minutes in one take, which often astonishes me.
Good video and I really like my FNS-9C. Eats every ammo type with no hiccups & reminds me a lot of my CZ's. I bought the black version because of the 3 mags that came with it. This is also a NATO certified firearm & has gone through all the test, they told me this when I called the company.
It’s a great pistol. The only changes I did was put the full size mag release on (the stock was too small for me) and night sights (FDE version didn’t come with them). You made a good decision to get the 3 mag version. To this day the magazines are not plentiful and still expensive.
Just FYI, HIVIZ also makes a front fiber-optic sight for the FNS/FNX. I have a set on my FNS-9 and FNS-40. They are very bright and work great. You do have to specify caliber because the sight height is different on the front blade for the two calibers. The FNS is an outstanding pistol, I sure wish the magazines weren’t damn near $50 each though! I can’t stock up on them like I do on my Glocks. Also.... by far my biggest beef with FN.... they once again changed the magazine design with the 509, so FN has guaranteed to keep the magazine cash cow flowing by forcing current FNS owners to buy all new magazines if they ever wanted to get a 509 (which I don’t because I find it inferior).
Awesome pistol. I have been carrying this pistol for over 3 years now. I have 1200+ rounds though it and not one problem, about half steel case ammo, about 800 rounds of defensive ammo, and the rest brass. Also have several FNS 9 standard which I carry in the winter up here in Pacific Northwest. Great video and great firearm, way under rated. I would take the Pepsi challenge with Glock any day.
Great review. Siipped under our radar. We are going to have to get one of these to evaluate as an Ambidextral Pistol...see if it can dethrone the PPQ M1 Classic.
I owned two of these pistols in black. The first one FN replaced, the reason being that I figured out that dry firing it a lot with a magazine installed will wear the follower down ever so slightly until the mag release will fail to eject the magazine. It failed three times and I blew through most of my followers until FN decided to replace it. As soon as I received my new pistol I sold it off (I never stick people with lemons). I would have said it was probably just my sample, but quite a few people have had problems with the FNS mag release (though I don't remember anyone at the time mentioning anything about dry firing). Personally, I think the detent on the magazine itself is too small and can't survive a slight change in the way it lines up with the mag catch once the geometry of the follower changes. If you don't mind doing a healthy amount of dry practice, you might try replicating the result (or help prove it's not all FN FNS9c's).
Been carrying the 9C for several years now. It replaced my EDC GLOCK 23. Absolutely love it. In fact many of my friends have replaced their glock 26 and M&P’s since seeing my 9C. However I have large hands so I am thinking of replacing my 9C for the midsized 509. However Size increase will have an impact in wardrobe selections. Ugh there is always trade offs. Decisions, decisions...
When I first got away from Glock (during Gen 3) I went with the FNS. Ran an FNS40 for home and FNS9C for carry. I went with FN for the same reasons you like them. I had very positive experience with FN weapons in military. The FNS9C is an outstanding weapon for sure and I suggest it to people all the time. I gave the 509 a try and let it go. Just did not wow me. The FNS was highly overlooked during its time.
nice review. I've carried my fns 9c for a year and shot it quite a bit. Your observations match mine. The trigger smoothes out with use and it is easy to hit well under timed/stressed shooting. Quality is great and egonomics fit my size large hands perfect.
Great video on a nice gun. Love the FDE as I have the FNX 45 Tactical and the new 509 Tactical both in FDE. Keep up the good work and be safe out there, my brother in blue.
I've been carrying an FNS 9C for 2 years now, love it. I installed the Trijicon HDX sights. I like them a lot but the stock sights are very good. Also, swap out the stock mag release with the full size FNS 9 mag release, part #66406. Makes a huge difference. It runs all day no matter what type of ammo I run through it.
Picked one up in black from my FFL today, can't wait to get it to the range. Bought it NIB with shipping and FFL fee for just under $400 from an online auction. When I saw MrGunsandGear added one to his carry rotation, it made me take notice. Still in love with it a year later?
Thanks for your service! I checked out that same pistol and absolutely freaked over it. Your right when it comes to marketing. This gun is flying so under the radar. The only reason why I checked this out was because SA sent me an email about the hellcat. I wanted to see the competition. I carry the XDS 45 but again your right about the amount of ammo the single stack holds. I do keep that in mind when I carry. So that brings me back to this weapon. Damn I’m prolly going to go back and pick this thing up. The market has changed dramatically in the last 3 years with the carry n conceal weapons. Thanks for the video
After 300 rounds, very impressed with FNS9c. For a push button mag release, it is my favorite (I prefer paddle mag release). I like that I am less likely to find my mag accidentally disengaged with the FNS9c's recessed buttons or a holster protected paddle mag release. So far, my left hand slide release is not working well, but it is slowly improving...maybe another 500 rounds. As a civilian, I rarely carry an extra mag, so how fast a mag change is or how well the ambi slide releases work fade in importance.
Very good review. Well thought out and presented. Some helpful details I had not noticed or thought about. I shoot a 4in barrel length more accurately than the subcompact 3in models. A 3.5in might work ok for me. Excellent review ... thanks.
Good luck finding one for sale. Gunbroker only has them in .40 S&Ws. I have one in 9mm. The .40 is what sold me when I rented on at the range 4-5 years ago. It's now my EDC.
Apex Tactical released their trigger systems for FN models today! Good timing, JH! I guess you'll need to try one out and get back to us on it. I almost bought an FNS-9C when it first came out. It's a very impressive pistol, but I couldn't get past the very stiff mag release. That potentially could cost you your life in a gun fight. So, I backed off to see if FN would address it. They addressed it by saying that they engineered it to be a hard press to release the mag by design to ensure that it wasn't dislodged in error. I disagreed and moved on to other solutions like a G19, a G26, and an M&P M2.0 Compact that work very well for my needs. Too bad, as I really wanted that FNS 9-C. There was a lot to like. 😎👍🏻🇺🇸💥
I put the full size fns9 mag release in mine and solved the issue for me. I believe the more rugged 509 mag release fits in it as well. Havent had any issues with the increased size either
The fact that sig won the mhs contract goes to show the military chooses the cheapest option vs the better option. Almost every other gun presented is light years better than sig mhs gun.
Very nice video Sir... So many GREAT information... I think you bought me into these guns, I was a bit skeptical about them, I don't know why!!! lol And by the way, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICES!!!
Actually people need to think outside the box, when you have a slanted rear sight look to the front sight. I have an FNS 40 that I can rack off the front sight.
Full size FNS is actually a great gun. Only LE agency I heard of that adopted it is the Baltimore County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland. The botch job they incorporate to cover the space on the non-external safety models has always struck me as odd. I like the gun a lot though. The Trijicon HD XR sights for the FN are outstanding. Thinner front, and the rear is not sharp on my set compared to the ridiculously sharp edges I’ve had on other models.
love this gun.. only downside is mag price.. but that is the ONLY downside. imho im a die hard glock fan.. had soooo sooo many.. n it kills me 2 say, but the fns 9c is of higher quality than glock imho... but ill always love my glocks... 😁😁
Traded my g19 for the fns 9c plus some goodies on his end and i really like it glad i did the trade feels good in the hand trigger feels great and came with night sights. Its my edc
Honestly as an owner of the FN509 when it came out, I was not very happy with how heavy the slide is. Can't even do tactical reloads with my right thumb. I have to use my left thumb in order to have it slide back which by then, takes up more time reloading it rather than charging the slide back instead. Trigger was horrible and I got an APEX trigger to replace it ($150). Even then, had to pay a gunsmith ($75) to install it after looking around for so long because FN's trigger pin isn't meant to be taken out. Hopefully I'll find my peace with my FN509 one day.
@@LS67NOVA No issues with a broken striker. I did watch some videos about it and it is kinda stupid how they made it that way. It's like they weren't even thinking properly when designing it. Now I fear that one day it will break on me when I need it the most.
FNS 9 & 509 only drawbacks are the exorbitant costs of spare mags! FN must be recouping their R&D costs on mags priced in the mid $40 range. Fn makes Hk mag prices look reasonable.
Make sure you are careful with what ammo you feed your FN 509c MRD with. Bought mine last month, 2 weeks later took it to the firing range for the first time and the frame/handle cracked. Sent it to FN and they said "sorry for your luck, must have been your ammo, warranty denied." Was shooting factory federal HST 9mm +P's and it was evidently too much for it. Wont sell me a replacement frame etc, its either buy a new gun or nothing. Retired LE after 35 years. Was using duty ammo that my glock 17 had no problem with. Totally disgusted with the company. Really really wanted to like this gun and maybe I just got a fluke but after this I will never buy another FN.
Very nice beautiful color. Maybe a little too much color for conceal carry? Maybe not. I don't know how often someone with accidentally expose their Gun and the color would pick up or be noticeable? My friend absolutely loves his full size. If they haven't made a prayer there really should be one on the Internet... I believe in praying over your stuff as well as yourself and others. Pray that we are all mentally physically spiritually alert... Stay clean and a very contaminated world. Ready if ever needed.
After FN moved production to South Carolina they fixed the issues with the FNS trigger. I had one of the original ones made in VA and it was horrible. I ended up having the factory replace it but got rid of it later. Been looking into one of these compacts but would only consider purchasing with the Columbia, SC stamp on the slide like yours. How's it been holding up now a year later?
Seen folks complaining about the the mag not dropping and having to be stripped in "combat" situations. Honestly, if you can't get the job done with the first magazine then you're screwed either way lol. I understand maybe in a true combat situation in military or LEO service but for the average carry, when the hell are you going to be firing 10+ rounds?
Hellspeaker If you happen do be in a mall or larger gathering of people and an active shooter situation occurs. If your at a gas station that’s getting robbed by multiple perps with guns If your broken down and a car pulls up to help, but they’re not there to help you Possible other rare situations as well are out there where you would need MORE than 10+ rds or a reload But then again, I live in a pretty shitty area of town so I’ve seen weird things happen.
Absolutely!!! I like the black better, but I love this gun. I did a review of this on my page, as well of the FNS9. Feel free to check them out. Nice video.
4 years late here, but I found a FNS 9c I really want (more than the 509) but know they were discontinued. Any advice on being able to find magazines or IWB holsters? I see a few online but not much. Thanks.
Fn is the most underrated firearm manufacturer out there
Actually, they are highly rated but relatively unknown to the general public.
I think Bersa is one of the most under rated and unknown gun makers.

I luv my 509. Its very quick and accurate
I just got one. Cannot stress how much better of a shooting experience that the FNS 9C has over the G26. Great vid.
How is the recoil? I have a few handguns and the best one i have is a sig, i like the smooth slide, hows the slide on this on
Recoil is significantly less
Agreed

Great thing about most compacts now like the G43x is you get that bigger grip, thin profile and they have 15 round mags.

There is a service bulletin for the FNS, built before 2/17 regarding a trigger issue. Go to FN’s website to see if your FNS is recommended for service
I had no reason to purchase one last-week, but I did.

I'll have to check out the trij. HD XR I didn't care much for the original HD's due to the massive front post and sharp rear as you mentioned.
You can “battle rack” the pistol it looks slick but where the sight meets the slide it’s engineered specifically so you can…
Great review I recommend the FNS-9C to my friend for a all about gun good to Carry and home Defense. Waiting for His permit. 😎👍
Thanks. I love mine !
love this gun.. only downside is mag price.. but that is the ONLY downside. imho im a die hard glock fan.. had soooo sooo many.. n it kills me 2 say, but the fns 9c is of higher quality than glock imho... but ill always love my glocks... 😁😁
Great video, thanks
Traded my g19 for the fns 9c plus some goodies on his end and i really like it glad i did the trade feels good in the hand trigger feels great and came with night sights. Its my edc
XS big dot makes'em for the FNS9 and FNS9c!! I think I'll like "dotting the eye!!! . I hate my stock 3 dots on my 4 in FNS9!!! LOVE THE GUN!!
I keep the full size FNS .40 in my waistband. Then I throw my love handle right over the top to conceal the rest.
Great review my guy.
Any issues with the broken striker?
@@LS67NOVA
No issues with a broken striker. I did watch some videos about it and it is kinda stupid how they made it that way. It's like they weren't even thinking properly when designing it. Now I fear that one day it will break on me when I need it the most.
Thanks for a great review 👍🏼
After 25 years of Sig DA/SA on duty I find the FNS striker trigger to be fantastic. Better than gluuck.
Built like a tank!
Got one today..great and beautiful pistol..does the backstrap pin have to be taken off in a certain direction??
It is!
Sent it to FN and they said "sorry for your luck, must have been your ammo, warranty denied."
Was shooting factory federal HST 9mm +P's and it was evidently too much for it.
Two in one day!! Heck yeah
I like the FNX DA/SA better than the FNS, but the FNS compact is saweet!
Largely true. ASP has never seen a civilian reload fwiw.
@@jhelmsing to be fair, from what I have read it seems like a super solid and reliable product.

If you happen do be in a mall or larger gathering of people and an active shooter situation occurs.
If your at a gas station that’s getting robbed by multiple perps with guns
If your broken down and a car pulls up to help, but they’re not there to help you
Possible other rare situations as well are out there where you would need MORE than 10+ rds or a reload
But then again, I live in a pretty shitty area of town so I’ve seen weird things happen.
Absolutely!!! I like the black better, but I love this gun. I did a review of this on my page, as well of the FNS9. Feel free to check them out. Nice video.
Fns9c or xd mod 2 sc 9? I'm a Springfield guy but fn is top notch too.
4 months later and I'm debating the same question with myself.
Corey Langley fn
I have same coler it's awesome
4 years late here, but I found a FNS 9c I really want (more than the 509) but know they were discontinued. Any advice on being able to find magazines or IWB holsters? I see a few online but not much. Thanks.
You would rather 6/8 rounds rather than 14/16 rounds?
The multicolor thing was not copying of of the m9a3 it was of of the fn scar beretta copied off of them.
The color is to be representative of the scar
Thanks for the video. Are you thinking to put the Apex on those two?
Matter of fact I am... At least on the full size.
can a different slide be added so a red dot can be added?
Can't find this in fde anywhere 😒
Waiting for FN509c
Nicely done buddro
