How wild is it that this is free to watch on UA-cam?
not that wild considering its a sponsored video.
"Where's that light coming from? The same place the music is coming from."
- gaffer
Samuel Costa I’m gonna remember that for a long time.
What does it mean? I did not understand it.
Muktish W background music in movies comes from nowhere, like, it’s there to create atmosphere but most of the time is not coming from a source that you can see in the scene (like a radio, or speaker).
I can't get over that comment! I have been finding myself more more liking unmotivated light and streaks but getting insecure about them. I am going to use this all the time.
😂 Loved this!
Damn. Having Larry is huge. I hope people realize how great this is to hear
I think Watchmen is his best work as a cinematographer.
Casey, I'm pumped to watch this one. I really enjoyed watching the video you starred in, on filming interviews. Learned a lot!
Bro this is sooo flippin good!
For real. This is dope.
and that's what we call A MASTERCLASS. cheers!
thanks for tuning in!
hold that like, i've just watched half of the video
@@indymogul man, i just love your content
Okay. This was incredible. I love how detailed everything was. Please do more stuff like this with cinematographers. So much good info!
Also, Super8 has been one of my favorite movies.
I now know what the difference between “doing video” and “cinematographer” is. WOW
🤯
IF YOU SHOOT THE REHEARSAL, IT'S NOT A REHEARSAL -- Larry's Cat Meme at 0:28
I saw the cat meme and was wondering what that was about. Thanks.
I love how larry seems like such a down to earth guy, even though he is one of the elites.
U will find most of them are. It is the ones on UA-cam and the ones that wannabe that carry on like assess.
Real elites like him don’t feel the need to rub it in your face how great they are. They just let their work do the talking.
He is a true example for a cinematographer who pushes boundaries!
I have to say... I love just about every Indy Mogul video, but this one is incredible.
Lighting was the hardest thing for me to get a good grasp on as I was starting out and hearing the strategy and execution from a cinematographer of that caliber is just badass.
Lighting seems so simple before you start analyzing it, and it becomes a nightmare soon after you start getting into it. There’s a million ways you can set it up, but only a handful of ways are the perfect ones for your specific needs.
Wow, this was SO AWESOME. First, I feel like Ted was just in awe the whole time. There was a level of respect that you could see like a younger dude talking to his grandpa. It was really sweet to watch. Second, Larry is just absolutely brilliant and so funny in an understated way. Great video!
Larry Freaking Fong! Dude's a legend. Love that you're making this type of content. Only get to hear from guys like this in American cinematographer usually.
He makes a nice light modifier too.
I love this episode. Please, bring him back again along with Zack if you can. I want to know more about cinematography.
Fully agree. I love cinematography in BvS and would love to know a lot more about this movie.
I just watched 300 and that long take caught my eye. I assumed that it was like 8k with a bunch of punch-in's. The actual method is so amazing!
8 k cameras did not exist in 2006-7 when 300 was shot. 8k cameras only got released in 2013.
Huge fan of both Fong and Snyder so the 300 and BvS commentary was so dope :D
This guys is legendary, I've loved all of the movies he's worked on, especially super 8. And I use that technique of using cheap practical lights in my work a lot, got that from that movie.
Such a great episode. Thanks for having Larry on the show and talking about his process. Love it!
always a pleasure to hear a great craftsman talk about his work. def try to to do more of these!

I love this kind of stuff. Been a huge movie geek my whole life, and I've been playing with cameras for a few years now. This guy makes me want to leave work early and go shoot something RIGHT NOW!!!
Amazing! More of this is for sure welcome! This was super bad ass. And I will remember and for sure use that Gaffer quote: "Where's that light coming from? The same place the music is coming from."
