In this video, I'm exploring the food culture of Athens AND the island of Crete. Video Notes
At the time of filming, COVID-19 regulations in Athens stipulated that the wearing of masks was mandatory indoors and outdoors. My mask was removed only to eat and speak to the camera so that's why you'll see it under my chin 😷
I've upgraded from the iPhone (yay!) for my UA-cam videos and am now using a Sony ZV E10 which I'm currently learning how to use. I apologise for the focus and stabilisation issues during this video. Thank you for your patience 🎥
I don't know how to correctly pronounce Acropolis. If someone can explain in the comments that would be top shelf! 🏛

I am so happy that you finally figured out how to eat snails (mpoumpouristous as we call this type of cooking in Crete). first of all you have to pick them up by hand. Secondly you have to soak the juices from the shell and finally after you eat it the best part is the bread in the remaining sauce. You are a natural born Cretan. Also I am sorry but I lol when I saw you trying with the toothpick and the fork.
I’m glad I figured it out too! Happy to bring the lols in the meantime 😂
Cretan cuisine is one of the most unique...simple...stupidly delicious and HEALTHY cuisines in the world! And the variety is out of this world.
Crete is overpowered
Incredibly underrated! Dakos salad lives rent-free in my head
@@JasonVaughan best salad/meal ever!
Strangely enough in Macedonia I didn’t find food anywhere near this quality. I can’t speak for any of the other regions you mentioned
Your idea of dipping the bread into the sauces is a must here in Greece!!Well done!
Can’t be wasting that sauce! Thanks for watching Kostis!
been following ur greek series and taking notes! i'll be in athens next month!
Thank you for watching! I’ve got more Athens content on my Instagram @foodmoodjason if you’re looking to get more ideas 🇬🇷
This IS Real food ladies and gentlemen......greece= yummies🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷💯💯
Thank you!
03:15 - That is a Zouchini that you are eating !
Thank you!
Greek food is amazing
100% agree
Must visit Crete to enjoy the beautiful island, the landscape and its beaches with the amazing Cretan cuisine.Include dolmathakia in your menu, stuffed grape leaves.
Love Crete, love the dolma. I did visit but was too sick to put together a video - however I did visit a brilliant restaurant which I shared on my Instagram!
There is no cucumber in that soup but zuccini !!! Also the coffee that was boiling in the sand was greek coffee and not espresso !!
Ah brilliant, I wasn’t convinced it was cucumber. Zucchini is a much better option! I believe the shop called it Espresso and agreed it is Greek coffee ☕️
every foodblogger and their mom has been going to Diporto. Such a bummer. Go there and you'll see rows of foodbloggers going in one door, leaving out the other one, all for that real Greek experience. Hahaha.
We all want a piece of Mitsos and his cooking
The rest of the food was fine, but until the cholious boubouristous were brought out, they are allowed to call themselves Kriti. When I was a kid(before you were born) I was surprised when no-one (the rest of Greece) had heard of that dish. Nice video.
Interesting. When I google cholious boubouristous nothing comes up. I recently went to Crete and ate at a restaurant that also had similar snails (but tasted nowhere near as good). Genuinely curious to know where does this dish come from if not from Crete? Thanks for watching 💛
@@JasonVaughan try " Holious boubouristous " . Greeklish spellings do vary. They are a classic Cretan dish. Don't know about which restaurant makes them best. I've only had my aunt's, but I do know there is a season. They may get picked at certain times and be stored, but I don't remember the specifics of that.
All over Greece they eat snail, they just call it saligaria.
@@aokiaoki4238 saligaria is snails in Greek. Holious is snails in the Cretan dialect.
@@cindy-ml7vo Saligaria or kohlioi (hohlioi) all means snails but the snail dishes in most of Greece called saligaria, ie saligaria kokkinista, saligaria stifado etc
