Nice comparison of the 2 editions. As a contented owner of the 1st edition, I wasn't planning to spring for the new one, but your overview convinced me I would be unwise to miss out on it. Thanks!

Thanks Jeff. I enjoyed watching your Schoengrabern game. Started watching your Austerlitz posts. Also, I did get the app to work on my Android phone. I was hoping to run it on an old Samsung Thrive tablet, but I keep getting a parsing error message when I try to install it. Be well.

Agreed. This side-by-side comparison makes a strong case for even holders of version 1 to spring for an upgrade. The graphics on the map are really nice, and I don't normally even like the "Tolkienesque" look. Here, it's as good as it's going to get, and the custom drawing is very evocative, especially with the "marshy banks" and village hexes....

Although the new maps look better, as a colour blind person I have to have my wife tell me every village/town hex, one-by-one, and I write it on a photocopy of each group of buildings. The reds and browns are very similar. I know even she has trouble with some of them.

I purchased the game 4 years ago, but it only reached me here in Belgium a month ago after 4 years at a friend's place in Seattle. Having walked the battlefield a couple of times last year, and then played out a full game of Ligny with the 1st Edition, with the ML rules. Took about 3 months. Really looking forward to doing similar but with the 5th edition now. Lockdown time well spent :)

I agree that here are times it is tough to know. That is particularly the case on some of the maps that allow some types of buildings to catch fire, while others don't. What has become the new challenge is knowing which hexside faces the door or gate to the special structure.
