Excellent feedback on those songs. Encouraging and also specific areas that the songs could improve. I learned a ton just from Ryan’s feedback. Thanks again.
He does not do this with all the tracks from all participants. He is very knowledgeable and quickly can assess what you can do to improve your song. He does have assistance and they do the same . He is amazing regardless and a beast with his skill set . Gifted
Some really nice tracks… crazy to think how many good artists are out there that just need some artistic direction and can easily be on top with the big ones. Jack Price reminded me a bit of The Midnight vibe. Nice. Really like Heidi’s one. With a solid production that can easily be my favorite.
The feedback was really awesome. I have been to ASCAP and Taxi events, but enjoyed your critiques. I could watch more video like this, because I think the feedback is just awesome. You give people great ideas to make their song more solid especially with editing the melodies in the chorus.
I'm not ready for this class AT ALL. Not singing-wise or writing-wise. But ... I still might go ahead and sign up. Because it's obvious Ryan knows what he's talking about, he's a nice and genuine guy, I get and agree with pretty much everything he says on these critiques. Plus, I feel like this might get me started on the right foot.
I had the exact opposite reaction to the "surprise" note in Feel Something. For me, it pulled me into the song and made it less predictable. Reminded me of the scale in Bali Hai from South Pacific, or Fools in Love by Joe Jackson.
Feel Something did have that initial recognition of the dissonant note for me aswell BUT i actually like it, on 2nd listen it played much better and it works really well for that moody vibe they were going for. I wouldnt change that if it were up to me, thats definitely a cool choice. Later on she goes higher and there was also another note that stood out in a similar way to me but not as obvious. It definitely adds to the vibe of the song. Its like its communicating a frustration for the singer.
I LUV this!, analyzing the arrangements for what works, what doesn't work optimally and what could be better (melody, instrument arrangement, etc.). And I totally relate to your arrangement instincts. Your analysis of the "Super 8" chorus is SPOT ON (the "window" repeat and ascension half way through the chorus ~ perfect). I agree, there are two strong artists in that group. I wish your classes were live instead of just on line.
I gotta say, the last song "I need a beach" had excellent word play and imagery. That was awesome, I think the vocals could use more presence to really drive it home
On _I Could Use a Beach_ , I heard the payoff rhyming off *you* - “Ain’t no thing to *do* . Take in the *view* . Don’t know bout *you* , but if you ask _me_ …I could use a _beach_ for *two* .” Luke Bryan does this often and lets that soft rhyme be the teaser. Other option is a hard stop on the ‘me’ and really make it known. (This song would be a blast to co-write on…)
6:34 it is in a side scale. if she continued to hit one more note on that scale I am sure you would be like oh right. and I think its awesome as she chose to use only one note, others are all two notes. but yes it is a bit for ears who are into those things. i think it sounds very good.
If you don't mind, can you explain? I play piano but never took lessons and don't really know scales. The song is in A-minor, and the note in question is an A-flat. I thought the 7th of an A scale was G. An A-flat note would be the 7th in a B-flat major scale, right?
@@ayseetv4875 If the song is in A-minor, G would be the minor 7th above A. However, minor scales often include a raised 7th and/or a raised 6th. The raised 7th in this case would be G#, also known as A-flat. Raising the 7th creates a stronger pull back to A. Hope this helps.
7:40 That note is very much in the scale and sounds fricking great addition to the melody, adding a melodic progression. Taking nothing away from this video which I really enjoyed watching.
Great site. !!!About that "dissonant" note. I think it really sounds great and ti was deliberate by someone who knows music theory etc. or just has a great ear. That note creates a new chord. One could play a new chord behind it but it would not sound so great, at least not for my ears. Thanks for the great channel.
RYAN YOU ARE A LEGEND - I freaking connected with everything you said and we think the same thoughts! Creepy!!!! Dream of meeting you one day and jamming, it'll happen!
Why don't you sign up for the course Shloimy? I know you really don't need any pointers, as you're already top notch, but it'd probably be the easiest way to connect with Ryan!
Song 2 could explain/desribe what feeling something is such as.. the lights surrounding us like magic the thought running through my mind like a bad habit...
Absolutely but it can be a red flag to reconsider if it’s not quite right to the point where it takes you out of the song and makes you scrunch up a little ya know but you’re not wrong
Does anyone know if something like this exists for Filmmakers? I’m talking short form like music videos, commercials and short films. Would be cool to have this sort of feedback, Any recs would be great!
thats just...wrong LOL i mean music is subjective so you're entitled to your own opinion, but production wise, writing wise, and mix wise, these are at or below the average mainstream track
Great guy! But it just doesn’t make sense sometimes. A nobody could make a song which would make no sense at all and could be the biggest song of the year 😅
I can’t believe how much this human knows about music. That was incredibly impressive.
He gave feedback in such a positive and friendly way, I love it
He was the best part of that tv show Songland. Just to watch him work with a songwriter was such a gift! I wish he'd do another show like that!
really wish that show would come back
All of these videos are incredible. Amazed they don't have millions of views. Everyone with an interest in music needs to watch this
Excellent feedback on those songs. Encouraging and also specific areas that the songs could improve. I learned a ton just from Ryan’s feedback. Thanks again.
Ryan's feedback made so much sense but I really want to point out that first song was already so GREAT wtf these people have potential
Tedder is a fucking hit machine for a reason.
This is such a good video. Need this to be continuous series, I would love to hear more of Ryan's take on songs, he's very knowledgeable.
He does not do this with all the tracks from all participants. He is very knowledgeable and quickly can assess what you can do to improve your song. He does have assistance and they do the same .

"Feel Something" was interesting - for like part of a film score, somethin along those lines
This is why he's THE Ryan Tedder - I thought that first track was flawless but after his critique I found myself nodding to all his critiques 👏
never heard feedback spun in such a positive light so consistently before. solidifies my stanning of Ryan Tedder lol
That “rogue” note in the Jessica Lindsey song was a greeeaat shout. 👌🏼
the feedback is very amazing. i feel like i learned whole lot of information there

@ 4:20 the chorus fix is perfect ...
this is the best feedback video on youtube
Ryan's comments are very insightful, interesting, it's obvious he knows how to build a song!
All of these are fire!
I had the exact opposite reaction to the "surprise" note in Feel Something. For me, it pulled me into the song and made it less predictable. Reminded me of the scale in Bali Hai from South Pacific, or Fools in Love by Joe Jackson.
Ryan is a living legend. Genius level analytics.
I’m not really a pop person, but theses songs sound great, and with Tedder’s input they would be amazing! He’s a genius 🤟

Please please bring back Songland!!!
Yes!

7:18 is it just me or that note off scale sounds amazing. Sounds like she used the major 7 in a minor key which usually sounds pretty good
I think if it was a bridge or verse 2 it wouldn’t be so jarring
oh man, great teacher. i wish i could work with someone like that every day. so much fun.
thankyou youtube for this recomendation
First song’s guitar instantly reminded me of “I Think I’m Paranoid”
All the songs seem quite good to me. I guess that they were appropriately pre-chosen for the video :)
On _I Could Use a Beach_ , I heard the payoff rhyming off *you* -

Love love Super 8.
They should have gone full on into the edm post chorus
Super 8 took his advice, i just listened to the song !
You are the MAN ! thousand claps for this brilliant tip. I just tried and it worked 🙂
This is awesome!!!

I thought that note was amazing. Gave it a fleeting jazz/cabaret feel and was a pleasant surprise.
It's a major 7

I feel like it could've been fuller sounding, it sounded a bit dry to me.

I totally agree with reacts Ryan, his genius.

it just came in the wrong place, should come later
It would sit better if supported/reinforced by the arrangement/harmony
He didn’t say it wasn’t… he said it’s a note in the scale he would avoid. Not the same thing
As producers, we're all gonna have differing views based on our personal tastes etc. I would keep it the same, it sounds fine to me.
no because the songs doesnt contain any chords from harmonic minor
Yup that Portis and London Grammer ref was good. That weird harm (male?) vocal stack in the Chorus was kinda weird.
Perfect feedback.
This was so useful!!
If these are Ryan's student songs then I have to take this class.
“Feel Something” felt like it belonged on Arcane specifically imo
Just came to hear him say "urban undertones".
He was spot on on all his little improvements. That's talent! I want that talent too.

The first song is a banger!🔥🔥🔥
Interesting I thought it sounded like a run on sentence. I don't mean this in a negative way just different taste in music.
Humble and a genius guy❤
Unbelievable how good this man is 🎉
RYAN YOU ARE A LEGEND - I freaking connected with everything you said and we think the same thoughts! Creepy!!!!

I want that Heidi Webster song “Gold” to be a collaboration with Flume 😭
Feels like an Illenium song
love this guy fr
Loco immediately resonated 🔥
This was sick . More!!
Song 2 could explain/desribe what feeling something is such as.. the lights surrounding us like magic the thought running through my mind like a bad habit...
3:48 Ryan Tedder should remix these songs!
He didn't like that note because it made him feel something
Awesome on point feedback.
Feel Something has that so called off notes in the major melody is fine. Remember Katy Perry did it in Dark Horse
Absolutely but it can be a red flag to reconsider if it’s not quite right to the point where it takes you out of the song and makes you scrunch up a little ya know but you’re not wrong
Reminded me of that!
I love the dissonant note in the melody:)
yeah.. I agree..
I would love to know more about vocal damage. Is it easy to hurt your vocals and damage them. Does vocal strain damage your voice easily?
@FreeOrgans need to work with Ryan
5:03 is that quaqmire
Anybody else hear THE STUDENT'S SONGS and come away discouraged like me? lol
Great songs great video
Does anyone know if something like this exists for Filmmakers? I’m talking short form like music videos, commercials and short films. Would be cool to have this sort of feedback, Any recs would be great!
there any many on masterclasses you can look up masterclass "film making"
This guy is kinda ridiculously good.
im impressed
Maybe it's out of reach...but I could use a beach.
First song? Does it evmmeb have a chorus? Didn’t hear one.
Great comments I think. Not enough thought about the chorus these days I think. ❤
All of these songs are far better than mainstream music
thats just...wrong LOL i mean music is subjective so you're entitled to your own opinion, but production wise, writing wise, and mix wise, these are at or below the average mainstream track
Oh wow Heidi!!
I Could Use A Beach sounds awfully close to Dierks Bentley’s Somewhere On A Beach, little close
Whats the drink in the can?
Song #1 why not add a chorus like "life's so much more simple when you're twenty something, no worries about nothing"
Ryan, be my teacher bruh
Twenty something sounds 89% Ryan Tedder-ish
You have to do layers
why wouldn’t you do rock layers
Singers don’t make music shoot I forgot
The note Jessica sang was a sixth in dorian scale. Best note in the verse imho :)
(think Eleanor Rigby but with more drugs)
如果我老師是Ryan,我一定超認真學習😂
Sorry to ask who is Ryan Tedder?
One republic band
🙌🎶💫🙌🌻✌️🙂
❤
Great guy! But it just doesn’t make sense sometimes. A nobody could make a song which would make no sense at all and could be the biggest song of the year 😅
Would have been funny to have made one of those AI songs just to be able to rip one apart without being a dick to anybody haha
Where is the fire in the youth today? The world sucks and the youth are listening to and making all of this happy pop. Get angry kids. You should be
We called it bubblegum back in the day.
almost all of the youth are making sad music thanks to juice wrld and lil peep lol. This just happens to be a pop class
Shit I need this class
🤔
Hope jack price took that advice
How I can send you my record for reviewing Ryan?🫶🇸🇪😃
❤
