I'm brand new to whiskey drinking/enjoyment. I got a bottle of Buffalo Trace and Elijah Craig. The first night i forced myself to finish 2 drams of both (4 total), one after the other, back and forth. I swear the very first sip of Buffalo Trace tasted so sweet and cinamony, then every sip after tasted like rubbing alcohol and that is all i tasted the rest of the night, even stronger with Elijah Craig, with Elijah Craig leaving a noticeable nasty rubbing alcohol film in my mouth for a good 3 or 4 minutes. The second night I poured a dram of Elijah Craig, and wow the flavors of that first sip was amazing. Not amazing so much of the intense flavors but the fact that i could taste much more then just alcohol. It all went down well getting muted as the dram shrank. Then I tried the Buffalo Trace again and I noticed how much smoother it was, but the flavors were so much weaker and the after taste was something extremely nasty.
I absolutely love everything from Elijah Craig. Barrel Proof is the best bourbon I've ever had. And I've tried lots of em. 18 is incredible. And 12 year is the best value in all of whisk(e)y. Great review. Thanks
There are a few having a go at Horst right now. They accuse him of being a brand salesman for free samples. This is totally unfair in my opinion. Apart from providing excellent information you can always tell when Horst loves or dislikes a dram. Watch the Octomore review for the opposite effect.
I finally got a bottle of this wonderful whisky. It has been out of stock at all of my local liquor stores and alas, today it was in stock. One bottle left on the shelf when I got there! I foolishly tried a sip without diluting it. I then diluted it to under 50 and after several tastings I must say it was well worth the wait. I definitely agree with Horst, it is at the very top of bourbon.
Just happened across this bottle at the military installation I am assigned to. After watching your review, glad I picked it up!! Great vid as always, looking forward to tonight.
Love you're distillery tours. One big compliment it's bourbon not mouthwash. It's not necessary to slosh the bourbon in you're mouth like mouthwash too get to the palate
+Francis Ducharme Definitely not a blooper! He said he'd have to add quite a bit if he were to bring it down to 46. After he added water he noted that he's probably "Close to 50", rather than 46.
Whisky.com Hey, Question here. If the normal strength is 67.4 you dilute it with a bit of water to you say 50 %. If you dilute it normal strenght lets say 40 range. Do you lose flavor and mouthfeel?
great bourbon this one. it's darker, thicker, higher proof, (and higher price) than anything I've had before. I gotta make it last; I wish I still had some of the Booker's I treated myself with one time so I could try them side by side. wild turkey101 is always going to be my daily drink as long as I can buy 1.75L for 20$ but this is an experience to savor. It's like being a teenager feeling his first pair. BTW, what kind of microphone set up do you have? I'm amazed by the clarity with which you capture all of those grotesque sounds in your throat
Connor Slack No no no, he's very clear on his ABVs. He also miss spoke on the Proof, stating "128 Proof" at the 1:04. Horst doesn't review many high abv/proof Bourbons. He's just giddy and want's to drink "more, more, more, I want to drink more".
Pete, So how did your first bourbon taste go? Amazing to hear this would be your first bourbon. I love the B518 and will soon open up my C918 and compare. So dense and deep. As Clayton said = an EXPERIENCE to savor! Cheers!
Horst your microphone is either to sensitive or to close to your mouth; way too much mouth noise! How do you taste flavors that are not used in making the bourbon like apples cinnamon cherries etc? Sorry not trying to be critical just trying to understand! Just finishing my first bottle of B520 and it’s so hot yet I really like it! $57 US thanks!
Horst nosing: "Vanilla, caramel... toffee, sweet vanilla."
Me nosing: "Alcohol vapor, maybe paint thinner... wait, is that caramel? No. Alcohol vapor." :)
LOL i relate as a non drinker tasting bourbon
If Horst says hell drink it tonight, then by god so will i.
😂
OK, I'll join in with the B518 tonight. Cheers!!
Don't drink it all in one night Horst! 😆😂

Drink less, take your time. One dram of one good whiskey, sipped slowly, is all it takes to enjoy whiskey.
Thank you for all your reviews. I especially enjoy your bourbon reviews. You are one of the best.

After seeing a number of stores around town selling at $80 to 100, there are a couple selling at around $60 to 65.

Really like EC. Heavy, complex and tasty.

This is an amazing bourbon 🥃 especially this bottle is so hard to find now.
i like it a lot too Sir. by far my favorite bourbon followed by eagle rare
One of the best Bourbon’s! Love the Rare Breed as well!!!!
Both excellent but IMO Rare Breed takes EC by a country mile.
46, but he means 64. We all know that is 64.
LOL I just realized your confusion made you say adding water increased the ABV from 46 to "close to "50. First great Whisky.com blooper!
+Francis Ducharme i think he's referencing the standard 12 year when he mentions the 46 abv
EC 12 is 47 ABV around here :P

Hi Horst. I think you might have made a bit of a mistake on the 46% ABV. Nice review though, keep um coming!

Great selection this one
You stated "46 ABV" twice in you video. It states 68.5 ABV or 137 Proof. This must have been your second or third testing today?
VaryingViewpoint
Haha yeah, I think just a sniff of 137 proof whisky rendered him a bit confused
Connor Slack No no no, he's very clear on his ABVs. He also miss spoke on the Proof, stating "128 Proof" at the 1:04. Horst doesn't review many high abv/proof Bourbons. He's just giddy and want's to drink "more, more, more, I want to drink more".
I'm sure he just superimposed the numbers it's 64%abv release 7 @128 proof cheers
+Scott Dreyfus yeah, if you view it full screen you can see the print on the bottle is 128...drinking some myself right now! :)
VaryingViewpoint I think your confused there bub
Besides tasting, how do you drink your whiskey?
Got some today, it’s really good
He's a very good Master taster
Another great review Horst, i shall definitely try this one. as my first Bourbon.

Heaven Hill does great work.
Amount of milileters?
Love the glass
I'm curious Mr Luening, for how much do you let this bottle go to your customers ? I bet the price will be better in Canada :P
Francis Ducharme
I paid 48 Euro a couple of weeks ago
Guten Tag! Thanks for the review! Here you review something I can't get my hands on in the US! You have connections, my friend!

it takes practice and time
Wait, did he say: I will keep and drink tonight? The whole fifth?
46 percent abv? Horst adds water. Now it's 50 🤔
He’s been drinking
@@Tom36tom55 how much would you say he has drank? How drunk is he?
@@lukesvideogameletsplays4416 fuck if I know the man makes whiskey videos
@@Tom36tom55 oh I see....
46 ABV to 50 ABV by adding water, can you send me some of that water!!!
I know right 🤣 he made a mistake there ! He said 128 proof which would put it at 64% !
@@TravelWBrennanMegan I think it is 64 lol, but he said 46 by accident
Awww this is good!!!
cheers baby
Elijah Craig is an amazing Bourbon, but I prefer Blanton's.
Master distiller can't get drunk tasting all the whiskey oviously 😂
it sold out like 4 - 6 years ago.
Nope
Hmhmhmm! Showing little mint. 😅
If u fart in front of him he would be able to describe ur lunch
Wanilla.
Wodka.
Lol why add water #Soft just stick to Miller Lite if u gonna add water amigo
he brought it DOWN to around 50% which is still a lot.
No shit, AMEN to that
Why would you poor whiskey down the drain?
mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I found it strong and unpleasant.
