I think the main reason Ralsei is sealing the other fountains but not his own is not only to keep the balance, but also to protect the other darkners. If Ralsei’s fountain is made of pure darkness, that may mean that he is compatible with any dark world, but it definitely explains why the other darkners from chapter 1 and 2 are able to live there. If he closed his own fountain and kept a different one open, darkners form other fountains would have nowhere to go when their fountain is sealed. Ralsei consistently asks you to recruit the darkners so he can give them a new home when their fountains are closed. Are his other actions misguided or even malicious… maybe, but I think he has a real reason to keep his fountain open.

No doubt there is a reason why he's the exception. Maybe it had something to do with his creation?
Maybe the person who made the castle town dark world did so in a completely different way than the others.
Maybe there are two different people making fountains and that's why Ralsei is so different. I think I might make a theory about Ralsei's exception in the future.

Yeah I think something similar to this too. It's one thing to have one Dark Fountain spewing out "Pure Darkness" then many regular Dark Fountains possible causing an apocalyptic disaster. Ralsei probably wants Kris and Susie to move every Darkner they can to his Dark World, and when all is said and done, maybe they'll be forced to seal it up to maintain the balance between Light and Dark forever. Such an action would result in Ralsei's "death," but the payoff would be the balance restored, plus the storage closet gets transformed into this beautiful room with all the Darkners we managed to save turned inanimate.
This could also explain why Ralsei may not want his Dark Fountain closed yet. If that happens then not only do different Darkners have no where else to go, but he won't be there to help Kris and Susie fulfill the prophecy, since his Dark Fountain stopped giving him a form.

@@XDNighthawkXD I was wondering if anybody thought about how the themeing of Dark Worlds occur.
They're mostly based on their location and the stuff that resides within the room. Think about it this way.
Creating a Dark World in a side closet where a bunch of board games are stored creates a board game focused Dark World, the Card Castle n all that.
Creating a Dark World in the computer lab creates the Cyber World, and those from the board game focused world turn to stone because they don't fit the theme.
So what's going on with Ralsei's world? The Castle Town? Why can all of the Darkners co-exist there. Well there's two possibly answers, one much more grounded and the other requiring larger assumptions.
The grounded answer is that since its a supply closet, and since you can put ANYTHING in a supply closet. The theme is just... storing things. Storing darkners.
The much more out there answer is that the Castle Town Dark Fountain isn't within the Supply Closet, but rather the Bunker. The themeing of a Bunker would be refuge, a place for those to go for safety when there is no other place to go, a place of refuge for Darkners when their dark fountains must be closed for the greater good of all.

I thought the picture in the classroom was signed by Alvin cause it’s a picture of his father Gerson, who is dead, but used to be a teacher, hence it was his classroom. He was a historian, and a fantasy writer, and he has a hammer buried near his grave. There is a sharp end on a hammer so it very well could have been a weapon to open a dark fountain.

I recently went back to chapter 2 and realized something interesting. Ralsei says he wants you to recruit darkners when in other dark worlds, but, _before_ any others are opened. Talking about going to other fountains, when as far as he knows, there's only his open right now... means that he knew that more fountains would open. That + the "I'll see you soon." line, really is eery. Like he knew that he'd _'see us soon'_ in the cyber world.

I mean, there's no need to be cautious about whether or not Gaster is involved in the story of Deltarune in some way, because of the archived versions of Deltarune's website including both a quote from Entry 17 (which we easily know is spoken by- or at least related to- Gaster because the room name in Undertale is literally rm_gaster), AND a quote from the prophecy. This reveals that Gaster is both involved in the story, AND directly aware of the prophecy. It's only his involvement beyond that that we need be skeptical about.

Gaster is ABSOLUTELY the one talking to us in the beginning of the game. The evidence coming from the game files doesn't matter as Toby made it clear he's expecting us to datamine considering his "warnings" in Undertale that changed after people actually started datamining. Plus, if you want in game evidence there are his speech patterns that mirror Gaster, and there's literally Gaster's theme playing in the background.
With all the evidence we have it's clear that W.D Gaster will be a part of this story. The garbage noise on the phone is also in-game evidence. The bunker's sound also being the entry 17 noise is in-game evidence. Traumatic recollection also contains Gaster's theme (The ost that plays after the hospital scene in the weird route). I think the part about Ralsei wanting subjects is because Susie was wondering where Lancer was, so he told Kris where to find them. Also, if Kris doesn't recruit them, then their dark fountains will be closed anyway and they will lose their form, so it could be out of kindness, giving them a haven where they can stay, when, under his interpretation, their homeland has to be destroyed.

Ralsei being guilty but not complicit is the feeling that I've always had surrounding him, but I haven't had any ideas as to what the bigger picture is, so to see a detailed take on it was incredibly interesting to watch! The picture that you painted of Father Alvin was really captivating, and I'd be very intrigued to see how it plsys out if he is indeed the king.
My main question after watching this video is, what happens if we don't spare enough Dark World denizens to shift the balance enough? How might Ralsei and Alvin react, and would the ultimate outcome of their plot actually change as a result? Or do you think the same fate would befall them no matter what?

That's a good question and something I've been thinking about.
Something that I noticed is that even if you do snowgrave route in Chapter 2 Queen still comes to join you in castle town. Maybe if you choose to go snowgrave across the chapters then only the boss monsters of that chapter make it out.
Maybe at the end of a snowgrave playthrough Father Alvin tries to resurrect someone anyway and they don't come back all the way. Maybe they come back as some nightmarish version of themselves.
That would be a really grizzly outcome fitting of a snowgrave playthrough.

Therefore the best course of action is sealing all other fountains and giving those darkners homes in Ralsei's dark world.

I believe the reason Ralsei is okay with Castletown's fountain staying open is because it's made of Pure Darkness, implying the ones opened by the Knight are not. So it's only natural he'd want to close the "artificial" fountains, or at least the ones created with ill intent, while keeping what seems to be the original one.

This is making me think of a sort of “Time Loop/ Reset/ Paradox” theory.
Like, Ralsei’s whole goal is to stop the roaring at any cost, but then in him doing so is the only reason that the roaring is starting in the first place (like an oroborus).
So I think that (especially If he knows about game mechanics, he would know about save files) any time the roaring happens, he (or us) restarts everything and tries again, but the very act of him trying again unknowingly softlocks him to always get the same ending (the roaring), so in order for *that* to get fixed, we’d have to get him to stop resetting *entirely*.
(Kinda like how in ‘In Space with Markiplier’ we end up having to stop the engineer from going back in time in order to stop the loop)
But if that is true, then that might mean we’d have to sacrifice the friendship we’ve made with Susie, since if we stop the paradox, that would mean that we would’ve never gone on those adventures, or even befriended Susie, having us start entirely on a new leaf.
Meanwhile (this is connected to this), in the initial prophecy (I’ve noticed this for awhile now) *after* it talks about the roaring, it says that “*Only Then*, shining with hope, three heroes appear at worlds edge”, which I understand to mean that the roaring *is supposed to happen* in order for us to *truly* save the day, and we’d need the roaring to start in order for us to finally stop it.
And yet Ralsei is making us close the fountains to prevent it at all costs? **Thats Weird.**
Idk, these are just my thoughts and theories! Hope it makes sense!

And as for ralsei's odd moments, that's mostly because ralsei hasn't had a single friend for years and is not really good socially

While this idea is extremely interesting, I have a few problems with it.
Namely: the religion of the Light World and its ideas of the Delta Rune and the Angel are most likely different to the Dark World prophecy.
I feel like these two interpretations of these symbols are entirely different, similar to the different interpretations of the Undertale prophecy and the prehistoric lost meaning of the Delta Rune.
If Alvin's religion and Ralsei's prophecy are one and the same, or at the very least contain the same elements, that would mean Alvin and by extension every believer in the Angel knows about Dark Worlds, Fountains, and the Roaring. However, this does not seem to be the case.
We could make the argument that this wouldn't yield a reaction from Kris and Susie if it were the case, since Kris is very quiet and reserved and Susie is a bit clueless at times. But there's one Lightner that would 100% have knowledge of Alvin's religion and would react to Ralsei's prophecy, and that's *Noelle.*
If Alvin's religion, at a base level, mentions Dark Worlds, Fountains, and the Roaring, Noelle would've reacted to Ralsei's mention of it near the end of Chapter 2 and sided with him against Berdly, nevermind reacting to and realizing that she's in a Dark World instead of accepting she's in a dream.
Alvin might still have some knowledge of Dark Worlds, but that's highly speculatory and frankly baseless. We currently can tell for a fact, however, that the Light World religion has nothing to do with Dark Worlds, Fountains, or the Roaring.
One last thing: I don't know what you mean when you say Alvin has to be really old? He really doesn't, in fact, he looks fairly young compared to how Gerson, his father, looked in Undertale. The drawing in the unused classroom is, to me, obviously drawn by him when he was studying under his father Gerson, who we know was a teacher at the school. It neatly parallels the stuff from Asriel and Kris' youth that appear in Toriel's classroom.

Alright, I can understand the temptation to believe that. However, there are a few issues with this form of the story. First, if Kris had another sibling, there'd still be some trace of them; an empty room, belongings to no one, or even mention of it in the picture on their fridge. Take it from me, it's hard to erase every trace of a person, even when trying, and I doubt Toriel would be the type to try, either. Second, Kris has another reason to try to look like the Dreemurrs, since they have a great distaste for humans. (Why that is is unclear, but that it is is known, thanks primarily to the interaction with the upstairs books in the librarby.) Thanks to Undyne, we also know that the dark world is not common knowledge, so it seems unlikely that Asgore would know about them, either. That said, Noelle disregards Ralsei primarily because he only shares a scene with Noelle when he also shares that scene with Susie, and instead reminds Noelle of Asriel, who has also been absent for a long time, but is (probably) not dead. Queen, on the other hand, disregards Ralsei most of the time instead because he's a darkner, and thus, irrelevant to her plans. Do you have a counterpoint?

6:54 not really, while yes the heir to the throne taking regency did happen, it definitely didn't always happen, or even happen a majority of the time. What you seem to be talking about is a corulership situation, common and rome, and occasionally happening in some later monarchies like the Habsburg realms. The fundamental flaw with this argument is that it assumes an uncommon situation is in place with no indication to such instead of considering that the prince can also be the monarch. Its a bit strange with are contemporary understanding of princehood but the title of prince can be used as a fuedal landed title just like any other, examples being most of the holy roman empire states, and alot of indian states. The title originates from the latin word "princepts" or first citizen. Augustus, usally considered the first emperor if rome, actually used the title of prince instead of emperor, due to the civilian implication, as opposed to the decidedly martial implications of "imperator" or victorious general. So in short, if the roman empire can be ruled by a prince, then so can the kingdom of darkness.

A scene that sets off a lot of red flag alarms for people with Ralsei is the scene after Spamton Neo where he tries to pull the conversation away from Kris' reaction to the fight. Either by assuring Susie that Kris is fine if the Yes dialogue was chosen, or trying to distract/pacify Kris is the No dialogue was chosen(with his actions being highlighted more if you chose the option to hug Ralsei on the swan ride).
While that scene is definitely suspicious(ඞ), i believe this scene is hinting more at his desire to ignore any serious problems.
Regardless of how Ralsei was created(i have my own ideas on that), he is clearly connected to the Dreemurr family, and something consistently shown in both UT and DR is that the Dreemurr family really sucks at addressing problems and usually instead resort to ignoring them and hoping they go away.
Asgore refusing to take the souls in UT to gather the rest, Toriel openly ignoring Asgore so far in DR, Asgore repeatedly giving Toriel flowers in an attempt to fix things even though he probably knows it won't work, and Asriel in UT refusing to acknowledge Chara's issues until it was too late.
I genuinely believe that everything Ralsei does, he is doing what he thinks is best for Kris, Susie, and the world at large. But at times he isn't fully aware of how incorrect he is or how his actions inadvertently harm Kris

Biggest reason why I hope Father Alvin is not the creator of Ralsei is because of the creepy implications of how much Ralsei resembles a pre-teen version of Asriel. Sure, I've seen people say that it could be a younger version of Asgore and it could just be that Alvin needed Ralsei to resemble Asriel to gain Kris's trust. But how exactly did Alvin /do/ that? I'll be the first to admit that it could just be the number of stories on the news + my own personal experience that's informing my mistrust of Alvin. But if this theory is true and Alvin did create Ralsei... for folks who've watched JaruJaruJ's Ralsei theory... what if Alvin is the reason Asriel isnt coming home from college...
Makes everything a whole lot darker.

The outskirts of Ralsei’s Dark World are unsettlingly bleak, quiet and creepy. With an eye symbol that can be seen on the beast with horns in the Roaring prophecy.
Ralsei SAYS he’s a prince, yet he’s all alone in his world, no subjects, no servants, no other royal family members. We just take him at his word for some reason.
He conveniently wants us to recruit followers from different worlds before sealing off those worlds forever, and have them populate his castle.
He’s keeping LOTS of info and motives to himself, “…so that’s why, ok Kris?”, while also kinda gaslighting Kris and Susie about certain things.
He’s absolutely raising an army, I’ve been thinking this since chapter 2 released.

    1. The last person we see in the chapter 2 library is the dog.
    2. The dog is one of the three only characters that look exactly the same for undertake and deltarune (the other 2 being sans and froggit)
    3. The dog’s light world counterpart is unseen
    4. The dog is the ONLY character that is seen in the dark world and the light world ( excluding main cast)
    5. The bunker might belong to the dog. Look at the door in undertale, long pathway to door, in deltarune: long hallway to door.

I think the prophecy can explain alot... what if he is intentionally bringing the light world into darkness so that the angel can appear... use the roaring so he can " see past the clouds into heaven" as spamton brought up in chapter 2. To use it to witness the reality of his religion, attempt to become a god like flowey, or to create one during the rumbling to support his faith (ralsei probably) is the question if this is true.

I wanna say this, I think it's a little overly cautious to completely disregard gaster theories until we see him in game. His theme is in the Gonermaker, he obviously talks to us there, etc. He is mysterious, but acting like his presence in Deltarune is speculative is ludicrous. The garbage noise, the bunker, the prophecy written IN WINGDINGS ON THE DELTARUNE WEBSITE. Spamton and Jevil were both driven insane by some outside force we can only assume to be Gaster. Why Gaster? He's the only entity we know of, apart from possibly Ralsei, who is aware on some level of the player's existence. He speaks directly to us on more than one occasion. His and Ralsei's apparent meta knowledge is a VERY solid link between them. To go FURTHER, maybe this is what Entry 17 means. It seems to be referring to a dark world (photon readings negative, darkness growing, etc.) and while I don't know if it's the same dark world that created Ralsei, Gaster, being VERY powerful (see stats), very knowledgeable, and one of three (Kris, Gaster and the Knight) characters known to create a dark world, it seems like Gaster is the only character we know of capable of creating a fountain of pure darkness. Does that make him Ralsei's dad, or the King? No clue lol. All I know is that there is ABSOLUTELY a connection between him and Ralsei. Now, I don't know about Alvin being the knight, Papyrus is also a really solid candidate. Alvin attempting to bring Gerson to life is a plausible idea. Anyway sorry for the essay.

I think your query "Is there a light fountain as well?" is rather interesting but other theorists have proposes the idea that darkness is "below us" and creating a dark fountain is more so creating a hole for darkness to pour upwards like smoke. These theories operate a lot on assumptions, based on information we don't have yet but the father Alvin being Ralseis "father" is quite interesting despite how unlikely it seems.

Great theory but I would like to clarify at 13:16 Religion in many cases actually does the opposite of this claim. At least in the case of serious Christianity and the other religions adjacent to it, provides both clarity of one's own problems and the hope in a higher power. It is the lack of understanding of these topics and the perversion of religious beliefs that lead people down dark paths (like any institution or activity i.e. the government, gaming, eating habits, etc.) And of course, not all religious beliefs are ordered to the truth, deviating away from what is good, but there are genuinely good reasons as to why people have placed their trust in God and their fellow men who live their lives believing in God (not just because, it feels good not to live in existential dread).
But I will say Deltarune will probably once again go down the "religion is bad" track that most modern media sells these days, at least once we get to whatever Toby is cooking with Father Alvin and his connections to the Deltarune symbol. Anyways, waffling aside this was a pretty compelling theory Nighthawk!

I do think Gaster is an integral factor to the structure of Deltarune, specifically the gameplay element being subverted in this game, as opposed to undertale.
In Undertale, it's saving and loading. In Deltarune, it's controlling a protagonist. While Gaster's nature isn't fully revealed, he's shown to be involved in our connection to Kris, said connection being set up as an integral theme to the story we're unravelling.

    • @epicparade1
      @epicparade1 3 місяці тому

Gaster's role in Deltarune makes more sense with the perspective that he is not an Undertale character, but rather his brief hints in that game are foreshadowing a future character in Deltarune. While yes, he has not been explicitly, directly shown, from the very premise of the game, to the secret bosses, their music, the crystal shards they drop (he was shattered across time and space- also wasn't that where the prophecy came from too?), even the track that plays outside the bunker, Gaster's involvement is not in question here. He's baked in as integral to the premise and concept being deconstructed in this game

    • @epicparade1
      @epicparade1 3 місяці тому

Remembering the structure of this game, and how Toby deconstructs game elements in a meta way is important in understanding Deltarune.
The 'angel' the town worships is most likely us. Banishing the Angel's Heaven therefore would naturally coincide with the end of the story, as a literal end to the story, but also for us as an end to the game we're playing. Spamton wants the soul to ascend to 'our' level, past the game world and achieve an impossible 'freedom'. Jevil recognises the nature of the game world and is insane as a result. They both have links to gaster, understand aspects of their existence as video game characters, and Kris reacts strongly to Spamton's 'puppet' theme because they themselves are aware of their connection to us, the player.
Spamton seemingly creates this connection, thereby the game itself from our perspective. He 'fell in to his creation', which we can now theorise to be a dark world. We can also link this to Des' disappearance, and the spooky dialogue in the game code.

The fun gang opposes the angel’s Heaven, which Father Alvin would want as a worshipper of the Angel. Beyond that, Asriel is the Prince of Darkness (one of Lucifer’s titles.) and Kris is called “Light Bringer” by the king, which is another title of the king of hell himself. Why would the very religious priest that scolds Kris for not going to church be the creator of the advisory of his religion? Why wouldn’t he say “oh the roaring is good and you should do everything possible to achieve it!”
Once again, great theory, I think Alvin just isn’t the right candidate.

I get what you mean gaster may not have any influence on the game at all as as andrew cunning ham called it the "gaster gold rush". I personally think that gaster like any good horror monster knows not to show you it's face. meaning that not only is it not like gaster to just announce himself it's also narratively "bad" both from a mystery and horror genre perspective. gaster is never in "the game" he's always in the "meta game". his involvement in undertale was very small and from the perspective of a playing though undertale he was largely unimportant and even underwhelming. that's because that's not the point he's not there to be found or add anything interesting to a narrative he's there to not be there what he brings to undertale at least what I think he beings is thematic world building and mystery. in undertale there are still mysteries to solve that don't have to do with gaster at all. but knowing that he's there makes the player reflect on their game experience mostly why sans has a huge habit of saying non-sequiturs. knowing toby fox's influences I think not only gaster is inspired by uboa (hope I spelled that right) but also dr.andonuts possibly mixed with giygas. all these points I've made may seem very sporadic and tangenty but there is a method to the madness. the point I'm trying to make here is that gaster is the man not there, the story not told, the reason not explained, and the puzzle not finished. gaster's purpose I think is not only to keep the player guessing but also to keep the story open ended to encourage such disscussion and theories so that the player always want's to eat more "gold fish".

Making a dark fountain requires you to plunge a sharp weapon into the ground very similar to a satanic ritual just without a sacrifice.
I am going to have ALOT to talk about in my next Ralsei video.

One other thing I've realized is ralsei doesn't seem too upset that new dark worlds are opening unless it's someone else who wants to open them like queen. So I do agree with the theory that the thing that's disrupting the balance really is the empowerment of one dark fountain. Plus ralsei is really acting more *prideful* in chapter 2 now that he has subjects. So my question is... is the weird route a route where we might be able to kill darkners... one where theoretically no one will enter castle town aside from the chapter one darkners will be the good ending, being another twist because if you think about it. If we do what ralsei doesn't want us to do, we won't be bringing more subjects and causing the castle town dark fountain to have more power

ralsei doesn't turn to stone because that's not a hardline rule, darkeners MAY turn to stone if they don't fit in.
and the OG starwalker doesn't turn to stone either.
if I had to guess why that is, it's probably to stop a big potential plot hole, of why susie and kris not bringing an army to every darkworld.
and snowgrave doesn't stop darkeners from going to castle town.

No matter if Ralsei is "guilty' or not, Berdly is better than Ralsei. Berdly is an incredibly loyal and friendly character. He’s one of the few characters who is a friendly rival towards Kris. He’s also one of the only characters who has a character arc in Deltarune. Plus, he’s very relatable to many gamers. So, yeah, Berdly is better than Ralsei. Ralsei is kind of boring. He just kind of… follows you around and doesn’t really have any character development. Sure, some people find him to be cute and cuddly, and that’s fine, but he doesn’t really bring that much to the table. He’s just kind of… there. Berdly is much more interesting and relatable.

i think it's unfair to listen to ideas and then shove away a character because they are deemed boring, only to glorify another one like they are the only one that matters. we still don't even know what ralsei brings to the table, and i personally enjoy the mystery surrounding him as that tends to be common with the goat-like characters toby fox makes: gritty, serious, a stark contrast to the goofy characters that occupancy the rest of the game. something i'd imagine ralsei will go through later.
in fact, i'd even argue that having character development so early and swiftly would mean that character is dispensible, but again, this is an unfinished game and we don't have the full story. Maybe berdly will have even more to bring to the table in later chapters.

??? If Father Alvin created Ralsei, how do you explain Ralsei's obvious psychological ties to Kris? Like, it's almost like Ralsei was created to psychologically complement Kris in a way. He outright mirrors the past ideal self-image of younger Kris, and also possibly the Dreemurr family's ideal image of a son. He turns from a black to a white goat at the end of Chapter 1, just like Kris presumably wants to stop being seen as the metaphorical "black sheep" of the Dreemurr family. etc. Thematically speaking, it would be *really* weird for Ralsei to be Father Alvin's creation. That would only make sense if you wanted to imply some deeper connection between Father Alvin and Kris, which I *really* hope isn't true. Every possible version of this that I can imagine is just bad.
...I gather from this that you subscribe to the Alvin = Knight theory. Now I haven't _quite_ settled on Knight = Kris myself, but by now, I am quite convinced that there needs to be _some_ deeper connection between the Knight and Kris, and I don't see how the Alvin = Knight theories account for that at all.

Id rather they stick to the idea of Dess missing, or Kris struggle with the player soul, or confronting gaster. Father alvin just iut there trying to be his best self. Besides...Alvin buried his dad's hammer with him, and seems more interested in getting kris to sing in the choir lol

I've got one of those how-is-nobody-else-noticing-this things about Ralsei myself. The legend he recounts when you first meet him talks about an old dark fountain and a new one which destabilizes things. But we then go and close the original fountain, not the new one! Here's the relevant bit of the legend:
    Today, the FOUNTAIN OF DARKNESS-
The geyser that gives this land form-
Stands tall at the center of the kingdom.
But recently, another fountain has appeared on the horizon...
And with it, the balance of LIGHT and DARK begins to shift...
If nothing else, one has to consider that it doesn't make any sense logistically for there to have been a dark world in the supply closet. Literally the first people to go into it would notice! Meanwhile a dark world could have easily existed in the abandoned classroom for years, by the look of it.
My current theory is that someone - conceivably Kris, but we don't know enough to really speculate right now - went into the school the night before Deltarune opens, created the dark world in the supply closet, stole the chalk from the classroom, and put it somewhere Suzie would find it. They did so specifically to ensure Kris and Suzie went into the dark world.

I also listened to the whole video again on UA-cam at 30% volume and I could hear myself just fine. Maybe your system audio is low? Maybe your speakers are dying I'm not sure why your having this problem.
