Ok, I am 100% biased I'll say it straight away but here's a few facts, like the video but just to clarify, all the dash and door wood is real (even on the piano black versions) the only thing that may not be is the ashtray cover. Steering wheel is real leather, as are the door arm rests and the centre arm rest although both the handbrake and gearstick is faux leather.
The car shares approximately 19% of parts with a mondeo (unlike the Audi a4 which is 70%+ shared with a VW passat!). The CD132 platform that the x-type uses has been heavily modified for the Jaguar including major upgrades to the suspension (the rear is entirely different to a Mondeo for improved handling. The X-type has passive rear wheel steering and not a single mondeo was ever built that had 4 wheel or AWD.
Although it had the nickname 'the baby jag' it is actually only 150mm shorter than the S-Type before it and its actually 44mm shorter than a Mondeo whilst being 45mm wider, improving the handling further and meaning you simply can't bolt a mondeo chassis to an X-Type.
It was also the stiffest chassis in its class at the time, in fact over 30% more, again improved handling and safety and in ideal conditions the x-type is capable of powering down from 60-0 in just 2.5 seconds.
When the x-type came to the market it had touch screen capabilities on the better spec models, most other cars didn't get this kind of equipment until the end of the decade.
Yes sure there are some cheaper plastics in the earlier cars, but with over 500 modifications changed from the original model to the newer the facelift version introduced in 2008, the latter still go for less than a couple of grand for a really good one, and an average one for around £500-£700.
I personally own the 2.0D front wheel drive only version which gives 47mpg driving normally, not like a grandad lol. These are one of the most under-rated cars out there, mines a facelift 2008 version and it has more torque than any of the V6 petrol versions, you didn't mention if you've ever driven the diesel, but I'll tell you now if you drive a good one they are unbelievably good, just as smooth (ok they don't sound as nice!) but I'd rather have the £180 a year road tax and 47mpg any day of the week.
Did enjoy your review though, mostly because I just like to still see them on the roads, but if you want to find out the full low down on these often overlooked jewels then try this link

I picked up a 2010 2.2D model for under €2,000 a few days ago. Needs a good service, but only has 50,000 miles on it. It had a "grarbox fault" which I already sorted.
I'd been looking at 2010 Mondeos, Skodas and Passats for the last few weeks for twice the price with 3-4 times the mileage, so when I saw the Jag I snapped it up!

So I bought a 3.0 awd x type in croatia for 4500€..went to germany put another 4000€ in it. Made a full leather interior rework, full body work, new paint, and rebuilt the engine with custom intake manifolds, and dual exhaust, and a remap. Most of the wires, and bolts replaced, and plastic bits replaced with genuine carbon fiber. Painted in ferrari red with all chrome peaces replaced( done that back home) and now after 3 years, imo its a real Jag

Thoroughly enjoyed your review, like yourself l have owned a number of Jaguars over the years and enjoyed everyone of them. Twelve months ago l wanted a project and bought a 2003 X Type ( petrol )
I would congratulate the previous owner and with some further attention on my part l have what l think would be one of the most enjoyable drive vehicles l have had the pleasure to drive.
Fortunately where l live in Perth Western Australia we don’t have the weather conditions found in the UK and my vehicle was always garaged which has no rust.
Given the cost at point of buying and the cost to satisfy me totally l am more than pleased.

Nice review !! It looks like a Jag !! And they are not too expensive these days !! My grandfather in Cheshire had an XJ6 and other Jags before that, the one thing I remember about them was that they were so quiet and comfortable . Great cars they left a lasting impression on me . I live in Queensland these day we can travel quite long distances and spend a lot of time in the car ,it would be nice to be in a comfortable smooth car as I get older .

the plastics only rattle when you touch them, they don't rattle at speed like my XF does. They may feel cheap, but they are pretty durable and tend not to break. My dad has a 2006 Xtype and nothing has broken on the interior. In contrast the speaker grille on my XF has broken, as has the key fob. In my opinion the Xtype interior is far more durable than the XF. The only thing that's gone wrong with the Xtype in 5 years is a windscreen wiper and a cracked radiator hose.

There are people who use cars for transport, then there are, 'drivers.' No driver will entertain a diesel, with their narrow power band, inability to rev, and noise. Driver's generally don't care about MPG, it's not a priority. Petrol engines are more responsive, rev far more freely, and they have a wider power/torque curve- which makes them more pleasant to drive.
