    While i personally prefer the looks of the older model, ive got to admit the bug eye has aged incredibly well. When they first came out there was a almost universal pouring of bleach into the eyes of car enthusiasts, but like BMWs M Coupe, id have one in a heart beat now.
    Cant comment on the drive as have never driven the earlier one but the bug eyes are a whole lot of naughty fun.

  • @RedPanda555
    @RedPanda555 6 років тому +1

    As a diehard Subaru fan, I resent the fact the bugeye WRX exists. It is the single ugliest design Subaru has ever put into production. Literally every other WRX looks better. Subaru obviously went for Porsche 911 with those googly, awkward headlights, but ended up with Chrysler Neon. It is the most unloved WRX model, as reflected in its lowest resale value of all WRX models.

    • @JayEmmOnCars
      @JayEmmOnCars  6 років тому

      I think it looks more like a Merc of the era

    • @MV60
      @MV60 6 років тому

      It had round headlights as the cars of that era, 2001-2003 were still adapting to the new type of headlight technology and couldn't get a design right that wasn't round at the time. They found a solution though and everyone quickly shifted away from the round.

    • @RedPanda555
      @RedPanda555 6 років тому

      MV60 I don’t buy that as a reason Subaru stuffed up so badly. Easy reason why? They could have and should have went straight to the much nicer and more aggressive 03-05 headlight design.

    • @MV60
      @MV60 6 років тому +1

      You do realise that time is progressive and not backwards right? 2001 is before 2003. They cannot have had later technology earlier. They would have made it a peanut if it existed in 2001. You do know about every other manufacturer having round headlights at the same time too right? There's no complaints about the soarer with 4 round lights, but then if subaru did that they'd be critised for making it look like a lexus. Sure the peanut looks like a couple of better designed round housings together, but have a better look, there are geometries in those housings that are not even. They have almost an oval shape to them if you look at the reflector walls. That was the problem everyone was having, getting the light to reflect correctly on uneven shaped reflectors.
      Anyway, I wish we'd get glass headlights again. That is the only advantage a gc8 has.

    • @RedPanda555
      @RedPanda555 6 років тому

      MV60 There was nothing special about the 03 headlight tech. Just standard halogen. There was no technical reason they couldnt have done that a mere two years earlier. The bugeye lights were a design decision, or rather, a mistake that Subaru sought to fix ASAP, hence the complete headight design update just two years into a brand new model cycle.

    Enjoyed your test of the classic shape Impreza. I've an RB5 which I've owned for about seven years now. Mine had had a complete engine rebuild and the owner of the car had some engine mods done. I always wanted am RB5 when they first came out, but the price new was just a bit to high for me being a limited edition build of just 444. Mines ppp pack fitted as std apart from that big rear Prodrive spoiler. Certain models of the classic shape are going up especially the P1 and the super car priced 22B. I enjoy mine, it gives me everything I want. I show the RB5 at classic car shows and it's also my daily driver, the only problem is the rear arches rotting on the classic shape, mines currently having both sides replaced professionally. People love the old shape, at classic car shows lots of people talk to me about my Impreza and many say they owned one and it was the worse thing they ever done selling it!

    The bug eye is way better. I went from a 2000 gc8 to a 2003 peanut, so the last of the classics to the first of the peanuts, and the difference is huge. Standard equipment, build and handling are far superior on the peanut. I had the big rear sway bar, all new shocks, etc on the gc8. You had to as they understeered like a bitch in stock form. I had to make it start to oversteer to get rid of the horrid understeer. While in standard form (with what I found out later it had dead shocks), the peanut was much better than the modded gc8. I have since upgraded my peanut now and it's untouchable by bar the most heavily modified classic for handling. And the interior is just so much nicer too, the gc8 really showed its age a lot worse.

    • @junit7590
      @junit7590 10 місяців тому

Have driven a friend’s GC8 UK2000 and was surprised how much lighter and more direct it felt compared to the newage shape. I think the GC8 is more of a driver’s car personally but with the prices now I’ll probably stick with my bug - have spent a tad too much ££££ on it now 🙈

      In the beginning i whas looking at the lotus exige 350 sport to replace my 2006 lotus exige s but then saw your video about the 380 sport,If i would to spec it out like the 380 with all the carbonfibre bits i would be better to upgrade to the 380 sport itself.
      Now the 380 sport got replaced by the exige 410, im deciding between the 350 sport or the sport 410
      Going with the 350 and puting al the carbonfibre goodys on it and once warranty runs out maybe lookout for a komotec kit or wait longer and save up more for the 410 that already has a chargecooler as standard plus it has the nitron 3 way adjustable suspension.
      The exige will be used as a daily car and for ocasional track use 2-3 times a year + roadtrip.
      Im looking to purchase a new exige beginning next year, Hopfully the 410 isnt replaced by then :).
      Also intresting is the new front clam design like the 410 coming to the 350 sport.
      The exige 430 cup is out of my price range also the category the 430 falls into road tax wise is pretty high here in belgium.
      Gonna have look at the local lotus dealer in about a week or 2 for a quote for both exige versions.
      Thanks, Richie

    WRX with 276bhp? Only on the ra..Still 280..one your driving looks like an imported wrx..240bhp..Subaru done a wrx sti with 260bhp.. you must get your facts correct!

      For the 96 model year JDM WRX’s had 260hp and 276hp from 98. Not sure about UK new but I think they were all 240hp.. you must get your facts correct!

      Incorrect my friend. UK's had 212, wrx imports from 95my 240, wrx sti's 260, wrx ra 275, sti's 280. UK models (gc8) rb5 240, they also done uk 2000 wrsport option (prodrive package) 240, mcrae and catalunya standard Bhp with options. Worked for subaru since 1995 myself, raced and imported them for 20 odd years..if you want more info let me know 😉
