    Perfect video. Was about to order from Amazon (now $124) but read through the comments and, thanks to a couple of folks in here, was able to pull out the top drawer, reach into the ice tray where I felt a chunk of ice cubes stuck together that were preventing the unit from cycling. The reset button that you clued us into and the tip about an ice blockage were the keys for me.

    I don't have this model samsung but I do want to complement you on the quality of your how to fix video. It contains everything you need and nothing you don't. You scored an "A". It's clear, concise, well filmed, detailed, easy to follow and no doubt saved a bunch of people some money. Thank you for no "intro", "outro", plea for subscription, like, follow, share... and talk about all your other appliance and your pet dog. Refreshing. Have a great day Tom. :-)

    Thank you Mr. Seim for your easy to follow video. Owning a Samsung French Door refrigerator our chest freezer ice maker recently broke. Luckily I came across your video and the simplicity of replacement gave me the confidence I needed to order and successfully replace the unit. With unloading and unloading the freezer and replacing the unit it took me approximately 30 minutes from start to finish. The unit has been up and running for 24 hours now and producing ice. Thank you again for producing and posting this video (and a big shout out to the person behind the camera too).

    So far I've had to replace about 6 broken door shelves over time. The temp sensor in the back of the fridge crapped out and needed to be replaced. Took a while to trouble shoot that one. Now its the icemaker. This fridge is only about three years old. Thanks to youtube, I've been able to fix it myself. I have a samsung washer/dryer and its the same story. I will be avoiding samsung in the future.

    Our exact model quit making ice several weeks ago. At first, I just did the reset and it had no effect after a day. Then I did a reset, and turned the ice maker to the off position for 24 hours, and voila, It is back to making ice. The wife said it is making it better than ever.

    Thank you, sir! My ice maker stopped working and from visual inspection, I saw that a cube of ice had wedged itself in the mechanism preventing release. In order to remedy the situation, I had to get to the maker. With your video, I easily removed both drawers. But, I still could not release the bottom drawer itself. Nonetheless, I had enough access to the device to melt the ice in the unit and free the device from blockage. Thanks for indicating the test button! It is now working and the freezer compartment is now clean and devoid of those cubes that had fallen all over the place. You saved me $$ for a repairman to do the same! I must say that this frig/freezer is the biggest piece of junk. It makes noises like a shotgun, is clumsy in every respect. My Samsung dishwasher lasted 4 years and was equally horrible. From here on in, it will be Frigidaire for me! Thanks you, again for taking the time to make this video. Much appreciated!

    Thanks Tom for the great detailed procedure, it was hard finding something for this specific model. A word to others with this problem, as I had the same problem as well. I could hear the mechanism working and when I pushed the test switch, everything seemed good so I suspected the inlet valve. I knew from other videos that, conveniently enough, the water tubing is exposed on the back of the refrigerator. I found the tubing connector going from the inlet valve down to the ice maker. I had seen from other videos that to get the tubing out of the connector, you remove the red cover cap and then push on the grey flange around the tubing while pulling on the tubing. I did this and first I tested the valve by having my wife hold a bowl under the connector while I pushed the test button on the ice maker and sure enough the water came out at the end of the cycle. I had read that the tube may freeze over in the ice maker and others had used a turkey baster to put warm water through the tube and defrost it. I didn't have a turkey baster so I just blew through it. It did seemed to be blocked at first but cleared. That must have been the problem though because this morning it's working again. You might want to try this before replacing the ice maker.
    UPDATE 12/20- If you have this problem, it's likely that the heater element that keeps the fill tube from freezing is bad or weak. Replacing the whole assembly is easier. Here is a link to the part I bought www.genuinereplacementparts.com/samsung-rf260beaesr-ice-maker-fill-tube-genuine-oem?gclid=CjwKCAiA_eb-BRB2EiwAGBnXXgtPaU1pq57Zgg1wIzCHlpADyMLJEizkQlhnWPgKGg9Gke9g2gwY1RoCJ54QAvD_BwE. The good thing is I live in Florida and ground shipping got here early the next day. Here is a link to the video that showed how to do it ua-cam.com/video/_3FF8AOQyZs/v-deo.html.
    Here are my comments on that video:
    I have a slightly different model and I was able to do it without completely removing the drawer but that would have made it easier, especially getting the screws back in when reassembling the ice maker. I also bought the entire assembly with the heater already attached, I think it's worth the extra money to not have to spend all of the time changing out the heater. Mine didn't have screws in the back to hold the filler assembly in, I guess they changed the design a little. I also had to pull very hard to get the old one out as the end of it had started to unwrap and had trouble coming through the hole. I hope all of this helps someone!

    Hey thanks man for the video. I didn't have to replace my freezer unit ice maker, rather I think it was just stuck cuz I had it off for a while. The folks in the house wanted to save a few extra kilowatts of energy. But now, after learning where the reset button was, I was able to press it couple of chunks of ice came out and I heard the water line go off. Oh yeah so when I have the new ice come out, I will make a nice smoothie and say a toast to you.

    I love your "how to" videos. They have proved very helpful in my attempts at troubleshooting why my Samsung ice maker stopped making ice:
    1. Pushed the test button, and it cycles completely so I know all the components are doing what they are supposed to be doing.
    2. Pulled the supply line and water was flowing.
    3. Disconnected the supply line at the entrance to the ice maker, and no water.
    4. Replaced the filter and it started flowing again.
    5. Got ice for about two or three cycles and then it stopped again.
    6. Pulled the ice maker and found a plug of ice in the water outlet.
    7. After the plug melted water is flowing to the ice maker and is making ice again.
    Whew, it has taken me several hours over the course of two days to figure out what is wrong, but I think I finally got it and I saved myself several hundred in repair bills. Thanks!

    Thanks Tom - GREAT video. Our problem ended up being a frozen inlet tube. No water was going to the ice cube tray. We ended up using a hairdryer to thaw it and lo and behold water starting coming out again. Thanks to Larenz's comment from 7 months ago we were able to fix it.

    Tom, I have four Samsung icemakers in French Door models. (I have an in-law apartment connected to my home with one of the fridges.) I am a 'regular' mom/Realtor/grandmother, 63 year old woman. I was prepared to replace the ice makers in my 'fridge hallway' where instead of an all-fridge and all-freezer set, I opted to buy two French door Samsung's with ice makers in the bottom drawer, for an extra 44 cf of space for half the price as my original plan and more space. The power blinks in our county often lately and the icemakers in these models quit producing ice (even though I have a whole house surge protector) . Looking for repair ideas, All I had to do was to find that 'reset' button. To help someone find it, just get on your knees and extend the drawer enough that you can feel the front of the icemaker. You do not have to remove the bin, drawer, or anything to "find" this reset "button". The "button" is SO SUBTLE, you may not 'feel' a button, per se. Just take your pointer finger and under the front edge area about 1/4" from the edge, toward the middle of the ice maker or left of the middle, slightly lift up your finger and there is a very, very small flat area that will move upwards. My initial thought was, that's not a button. But like other "reset buttons" on appliances, I held it for 3-5 seconds and I heard the machine make a noise to start. I had put a shallow bowl in both units and pressed and depressed it over a few hours to see if it was on or off. One dumped water, the other ice. I figured I turned them back on during different cycles. When I felt they were both on, I checked the bins this morning and they have been making ice all night with a respectable amount of ice. By this evening, I will be 3/4 full on the bins, I am sure. THANK YOU, TOM!!! Thank you. You save me a lot of money. I would have authorized a repairman to replace the icemakers. I'm sure you save me hundreds of dollars, time, and a whole lotta' mess.

    Great video. I figured out that my water line freezes from time to time which prevents it from making ice. I used a blow dryer to melt the ice ins the line and left the freezer open for a bit. I pressed the button on the motor to cycle it. It was making Ice again in an hour or so.

      Your water valve may have a slight leak, which then freezes up. Try using the test button to force a cycle and watch for any dripping water.

    Thanks! Your video was better than most I found when googled. Especially since I used the exact model but still got hits for various other models. The only thing I'd suggest is a little more about the "operation" of the ice maker. I say that because I didn't have mine installed, the spot wasn't ready so they just delivered to the kitchen area. The thing didn't make ice overnight although I know it was hooked up right, water on. The manual doesn't give much info. The "on" position turns the light off. Instinctively one would think the light on means it's on but not. Also, I was thinking the arm on the side of the "maker" would go down to sense the ice level. But didn't force it, started googling. I saw you hit the ice off/on button and the light went out so deduced light off meant "on". Then I hit the test button and it cycled. Was just more guesswork and that manual wasn't much help surprisingly.

    • @gbnomore3918
      @gbnomore3918 4 роки тому

      @@daisym.5739 Daisy M. there's not too much to them. As long as they're turned on and the wires are live so the unit is getting electricity and the water is there it should work. Unless the icemaker itself is malfunctioning. Then you would just have to replace it. I think when you push the reset button it should either eject the ice that's in there or it should cycle and fill with the water. You said there was ice in the tray, not sure how much but it's trying to work. Probably the hall sensor he mentions is out or the dispense function is not working properly.

      I agree 💯 percent. My Samsung microwave is mediocre at best and I have the same model refrigerator this gentleman has and it is garbage. Samsung knows about the upper evaporator freezing problems along with the drain freezing problems.
      I had to install the drain kit, modify the heater tab into the drain and install an extra heater on top of the evaporator just so it would work longer than 6 months without needing defrosting.
      Recently the refrigerator started freezing everything and ice maker stopped working. I had to replace the main control board to get it from freezing but now the ice maker cycles when pushing the button but doesn't make ice.
      What a joke of a company.

    I think we have the same or simiilar model. A couple questions: 1. Does yours have a water filter? I'm getting a red water filter notification up at the top of the refrigerator display panel but I can't find a filter anywhere. 2. Does yours have an automatic shut off once the ice bucket is full? Ours just keeps filling until we shut if off manually. The other thing that was funny - I couldn't figure out how to get the top freezer basket out. I did exactly what you showed but there wasn't enough room to get it out. I finally realized my freezer drawer wasn't all the way open. I literally had to thrust the drawer open several times and it would gradually open a little bit further each time. We've been using it like this since the day we got it! So nice to know I can open it all the way now for easier access!

    • @tomseim
      @tomseim  Рік тому

      1. Yes, but it is for the freshwater dispenser, not the ice maker.
      2. Yes, it is the metal bar that is lifted up by the ice in the tray. There must be a broken microswitch in your ice maker. You must have some contamination in the drawer slides. Lube it with a PTFE spray from CRC.

    • @bwhite661
      @bwhite661 Рік тому
