What does this sensor even do? And how do we test that it has gone bad?

This was the best video of the five I watched and it was exactly what I needed to repair my Samsung ice maker myself in about 30 minutes. One thing he does not make clear is that you may have to make sure your main freezer drawer is pulled as far as it can go; mine sort of naturally stops short. I just needed to give a little extra pull to get it to open enough to get the trays out to give me room to unscrew the ice makes. Unpacking and repacking the freezer and just wiping out the trays was where I spent most my time. Removing, Repairing and re-installing the ice maker actually took about 5 minutes.

Good video for disassembly but why would the bracket ever need to be changed? It just holds the temp monitor in place and will never break.

How does the sensor bracket go bad ?

That's what I don't get. If the bracket just holds the sensor, why replace it.

I didn't get it either at first. I think it gets broken from hitting stuff in the ice tray.

It doesn't. But the plastic can become brittle and break. Mine fell off, the foam thing fell out, the wire was hanging out and the ice was coming out in large unbreakable chunks. I thought I lost the pieces but I found them buried in the ice tray

My ice maker accidentally was damaged when pushing ice tray container back in place when closing the door. It was so damaged that the wires were severed completely off. I had Repair man come out to replace the entire ice maker. The person did not un plug the Refrigerator or turn off ice maker on control panel on front of door before installing new unit. When finished installing new maker, it did not cycle/ work when pushing “Test button”. The repair man said 1. The new maker is defective or 2. The ice maker Board is Bad. Could the problem be that he did not unplug or restart the Refrigerator? He is getting another New ice maker next week to determine if it was a bad maker. If it’s the circuit board, that will cost another $400 beside the $298 for new ice maker unit plus labor. Any suggestions or helpful information is much appreciated. Thank you.

One of the tangs on my ice tray holding the white clip is broke. I think I was a little rough and stored food in the ice maker and slammed the drawer shut. Dont really feel like replacing ice tray and dissembling. Im trying a blob of silicon to see if its enough adhesion to hold clip in place. Not sure what kind of plastic its is to try a solvent type glue that can handle the cold.

Thanks for sharing! Just had to replace ours on a 3 year old unit. After getting the ice maker out, I discovered the yayhoos at the factory installed it with too much slack in the wiring to the sensor. The wires got hung when the tray dumped the ice, breaking the bracket. If I'm paying $2500 for a refrigerator, I expect the "factory" to get that right. Anyway, thanks again for the tutorial!

Somehow the motor and ice tray units got pulled out from the holder mounted to the fridge. Thanks to this video, I could figure out how to put it back together. Thank you! P.S. - Samsung appliances SUCK, I have had to fix or replace every one of my appliances.

My urethane sensor bracket pad seems to be saturated with moisture. Is this why the cubes are not dropping when they are frozen? It fills fine and the manual test switch dumps good but the cycle is slow or intermittent and seems to vary every time I take the sensor out of the bracket. Fridge shows no error codes for sensor. Thanks!

It very well could be. Without knowing the specific model, I would also check to make sure your seals are good and you do not have any air leaks getting into the iceroom causing moisture buildup.

Is there a reason my ice maker won’t make ice after I did this process? Do I need to test something?

Great video, I had the hardest time figuring out the orientation of the bracket.
FWIW, probably safer and easier to do it by removing the ice maker. But it is possible to do it by touch with just one’s hands or with the aid of an iPhone in selfie mode to give you a bottom-up view. Took about 45 seconds and didn’t have to unload and remove the top drawer.

I was getting weird solid ice chunks that were hard to break up. I think its to sense the right temp to dump ice.
