Very nice review. It seems like a decent offering & probably my favourite in the category overall. Despite possibly not being the best in any one area, it seems like a great all round package. Seemingly better than the MT07 & Z650, more style & class than the Hornet (imo). Plus it comes with a standard QS, bigger brakes & rear tyre over the Hornet too. I normally ride a gen 1 rsvr millie and an older Ducati 750 F1 . Took one of the 8s for a test ride and was super impressed at the comfort handling agility and lots of low and mid end push. A genuinely surprisingly good bike that would hold its own with a lot of more powerful machines in the tight stuff. Lots of fun.
@@svaralen New design, TFT-display, Quick Shifter, Slipper clutch, on and off toggleable TC, better brakes and suspension and tires and make the engine a 750 or 800cc. The old SV650 will start to struggle with emissions soon probably so more power and displacement in that engine would be good.
This is a real do it all bike, doesnt Excel in anything, but looks good is reliable and will make you smile because of the versatility. I think its a winner for suzuki. Now Yamaha need to make the mt-08 with usd fork and 85 hp😎
The legacy of the SV is etched in stone it will not be soon forgotten what's not to like? about it. A full 800cc lighter weight new generation vvt version of it would have been great.
I didn't pay much attention to this bike when it was launched but now I think it is growing on me. An all new everything is a very rare thing for Suzuki, and this one has all the bells and whistles a rider could ever need. I had an SV650 once and loved it. I'm sold with Suzuki as a brand and what they stand for. I'm rambling but in a nutshell, switching bikes is not an option at the moment but if ever I do, this will likely be in the shortlist.
Dan, the production quality is top-notch. I mean, sure, I've like the video, but it doesn't do it any justice. I feel like 3 or 4 thumbs up would sum it up much better! Your videos are absolutely superb, do keep 'em coming, please! Cheers!

@@leeengelsman1855 I mean, my current bike only weighs in at like 170kg, so that extra 30kg might be a bit of a feel (plus I weigh in at like 60kg). Hopefully it’ll be good in traffic 🤞
@@FSH-fv6ww current SV's weigh more than the originals but most people don't consider because they don't know it . All they know is it feels great has a nice sound and is grunty. The people whom design these have been at it for a long time they know how to make pleasing motorcycles. Why people presume that they more than manufacturers by modifying bikes with crude aftermarket junk is mystifying to me.
Great to see Suzuki have something new to offer, not just a re-work. It seems a lot of manufacturers are going over to a twin cylinder power plant, personally I love it, I'm sure it will sell really well, nice one Suzuki and another great video Dan 👍👏
@Salvo Spedale I haven't ridden either bike, have you ridden both? Looks are subjective, so I can hardly be wrong about my personal preference for the style of the Suzuki. From reviews I have watched, the Hornet can be pretty cramped for a larger rider, where the Suzuki is more accommodating. Price difference is somewhat offset by the fact that a quickshifter is standard on the Suzuki and extra on the Honda. I also don't love the skinny bicycle-looking rear tire on the Honda. Superior in all respects? Nope. Heck of a bike all the same.
@@rogerp4612 The price difference will increase if LED indicators are your concern. Those bulky halogen indicators have no business being on this handsome-looking bike
@gsm_liv those are not a big concern for me. For almost any bike on offer, there are one or two tweaks I would make. Turns signals don't enter the realm of deal-breaker for me.
Great review. I've put my order in for one in black. Hoping to arrive in the next few weeks. Although the blue looks awesome I'm hoping I made a good choice 😂
My choices are this, Triumph Trident and Yamaha MT07. Trident looks the best followed by 8S then MT07. I just wish the taillight wasn’t sticking out on that plastic piece (hideous). Hoping there is a way to tuck the taillight/turn signals up under the tail!
I like the digital ammeter readout but don't think there's many folk who wouldn't swap a quickshifter for the fitment of braided hoses as standard. I personally can't stand a spongy feel to front brakes. This seems like a pretty decent bike but may struggle against the Honda Hornet. Isn't it about a grand more expensive ? I must say, as a bloke who's your height and has the same inside leg measurement, but a pretty light 9 stone 3 lbs undressed, it makes a change to see a bike with a rear shock that wouldn't be so hard as to be rocketing me off the seat a lot of the time, even over small bumps. Had to have my own bike resprung with a lighter spring, as it had been aggravating my cervical myelopathy something awful, even when totally backed off.
That's a dream you'll have to savour! Before long, the SV will be gone as it'll need development to meet eu regs. Plus they won't want to make a v twin as they cost more to manufacture. A real shame, but I fear the end is near.
I just wish i could get past the blue wheels. But it's just too fast 😂. Seriously though, even though i hate twins, it's a cracking little bugger. I recommend to all but the most die hard of Vespa fans.
Thanks for the great video as per, Dan! This bike is on my list of contenders as a first one for when I get my license this year (along with CB650R and Trident 660) love watching your content. Cheers and have a great weekend.
4:00. FortNine has an important video about balancing called "Why Millions of People Ride Harley Davidsons," on their UA-cam channe, where Ryan explains that you don't actually need the balance shaft that balances the crankshaft front to back, because when you vibrate the engine front to back (like what happens in a Harley with a single crankpin engine) the vibration is absorbed totally when you're at speed and rolling, because the vibration is merged into the forward motion of the motorcycle so it mostly totally dissipates once you're moving. It's the up and down vibration which is the problem, and it seems like Suzuki might have messed up by trying to balance all the axis of the engine simultaneously, and not succeeding to balance the up and down vibration properly in the meat of the power band where the bike spends most of it's time. The balance shafts themselves, probably create their own harmonics at certain speeds, which would explain the buzz. The 2nd Gen Hayabusa is very smooth above 2,700 rpms, and never gets any rough buzzing, only a faint vibration that you can barely feel. and it's a huge motor and only has one single counterbalancer. The ZX-14 is apparently glass smooth, smoother than the Hayabusa, and has twin counterbalancers and it's a 1440cc engine. A parallel twin should be a bit easier to balance, as the harmonics should be less complex than a 4 cylinder, but the 270 degree crank might be a totally new design for Suzuki in their entire history as a motorcycle company. I expect that they will redesign the balance shafts and tuning in future iterations, and you'll see that buzzing disapear. They might also change the gearing, a higher gear would solve the problem faster than redesigning the engine. Modern motorcycles are notoriously geared too low.
Pretty sure that bottom balancer makes the whole engine architecture more awkward than it had to be. A Parallel Twin by nature it's tall, having a balancer in the oil pan pretty sure doesn't make it any shorter. Sometimes engineers have "too many choices" and end up putting together a shitty mix of parts and mechanical theories that don't make anyone happy other than themselves. But hey ! At least they are still trying to look like they haven't shit the bed for good. 💀 Let's see how much longer they can keep their charade of being the Walmart of motorcycles.
Both the hornet and this are better than the mt. The mt is good if you're a street hooligan, the engine is great but other than that there's not much to write home about...
The looks are growing on me, I'd like to see one with a screen. For what you get, the price is excellent. The colourway I'd go for is the Glass Sparkle Black / Metallic Matt Black No.2 (KGL). It's a Suzuki, so you can guarantee the bike will be reliable. But, in the UK you get a 3-Year Warranty anyway, with Suzuki AA Roadside Assistance-what not to like!
Thanks Dan, What stunning scenery to ride the more than competent and great looking "8S" Happy to see you riding at your safe level on an unknown and potentially treacherous road too. :>)

Nice bike. I really want to test ride one. what a beautiful place for a bike launch, I really want to see comparisons with the Honda Hornet and and also the Trident with similar HP. that road you are test riding on is like some of the canyons in California where if you mess up you either go into a rock cliff that will turn you into hamburger or you go off in the other direction and you are down a steep mountain side or off a cliff. either way you are screwed. I heard in another video that one of the test riders went down. I hope they are ok. I am really curious about the ride of this bike compared to the Hornet considering its over a grand more money. is there something about the bike that justifies that price difference considering that the Honda is 90HP. which is more than the 83 of the GSX8s. and the Honda is also lighter, is the GSX8s maybe more stable and confident inspiring ? better fit and finish ? I am looking forward to finding out in some comparison videos. hopefully someone makes a good one. I do like the looks of the Suzuki more than the Hornet. but I'm not sure that justifies the price difference.
Yeah it was a stunning location for sure! Yes, a lady journo had a small off but she got straight back on another bike and all was good! I'll do a comparison vid soon! Thanks!
Had test rides on both hornet and GSX8S, hornet is great bike for the money the one tested had a quick shifter which was a bit jerky but that could have been me, was very flickable, lighter and more power but no quick shifter as standard. Gsx8 is heavier although you don’t notice it, quick shifter seemed smoother and pull from low rpm was smoothe. I am older rider 6ft tall 32 inside leg and gsx8 fits me perfect, I’ve ordered white one and can’t wait.
I've watched this video like 10 times now in anticipation of finally buying this bike. Not sure which color yet though, I'm torn between black and blue. I must say though that the video quality is insane and you are a great reviewer.
Another great review, thanks. How does the handling compare with the older GSX S750? Is the 8S an apex predator? The 8S will retail for the equivalent of Stg 8,500 here. They are still selling the old GSX S750s for Stg6,370. So that is a 33% premium for new looks, the tech and 32 less BHP. Is the 8S 33% more fun?
Me too and from memory it was very agile I. Town or the BRoads despite its weight. Just watched your GSX S750 review. You loved it I think. Better than on paper and that Gizzer howl.
Love the bike. My only complaint is the brake light isn't on the tail itself. When removing that fender, may be a pain to find an option for the brake light.
Great review.. i love the new GSX 8S. Currently own a SV 650 2017 model and thinking of switching to GSX when it becomes available for purchase. Also great intro song. I will be glad to know more details for the song .. cheers .
Suzuki is making a comeback and I think behind closed doors is a secret GSXR given the entire line up has gotten an update aside from the M109 and more simple machines that are probably better left alone.
Suzuki were once THE manufacturer for sports bikes and when they announced a new model the other three of the Japanese big four worried, they brought us revolutionary bikes like the X7, GS750, GS1000, RG500, XN85, GSX-R750, 600 Bandit and SV650 but now the whole GSX-R range is no more and Suzuki don't have a single leader in any category. as someone who's owned eight Suzuki's from the RGV250, RG500 through all the GSX-Rs up to the 1000R it really saddens me to see the company at rock bottom and the GSX-8S won't raise them any higher, it's much heavier than every other budget naked middleweight and up to £1,000 dearer so why would anyone choose it over the Hornet or KTM790, it's obvious Suzuki are pulling out of making bikes (they've already pulled out of MotoGP, WSBK and every international series) so just pull the plug now rather than this long lingering death and leave us with the memories of the great bikes they once made.
You think they'd spend all that time and money developing a new engine platform to pull out of making bikes? This bike will sell very well. They are simply adapting to the changing market demands.
@@Englishbikerdan They've shown that bikes are now a tiny part of the company and have gone from one of the market leaders to rock bottom with no flagship, unlike Honda and Yamaha who have something in every category that competes with the best, name a Suzuki that does, this is their first new bike in years and IMO not one to blow away their rivals. even relatively small companies like Triumph are producing great bikes like the latest Street triple that are market leaders.
If only they'd stick the display from the 8s on the GSX1000. The 80s style LCD doesn't fit with the restyled street fighter look. Suits the Katana mind.
I have the bike and people complaining lots about the screen but it’s actually not that bad. Yes it could be better but I’m riding the bike and not the damn display.

Thanks for the review. Looking back on the design study, this is actually how I expected the new Hornet 750 to look :D
Susuki do not release new bikes very often, but when they do they are barn stormers!❤
I think if they update the SV650 with better suspension, the same tft dash and breaks, suzuki can have also a best seller 👍
@@svaralen With the new Euro emissions, I would not be surprised if this bike replaces the SV650 in Europe
@@jaafersa I know unfortunatly. The good thing for me, I live in Serbia so not in the EU so we still don't have those stupid laws...
@@svaralen If they update it, it's gonna go up in the cbr's price range and under these circumstances why not just get the cbr.
This is a real do it all bike, doesnt Excel in anything, but looks good is reliable and will make you smile because of the versatility. I think its a winner for suzuki. Now Yamaha need to make the mt-08 with usd fork and 85 hp😎
Agreed RE Yamaha. MT08 would be great.
Better looking than the others in its class.
A worthy successor to the original 1999 ‘curvy’ SV650. Finally!
Yeah it's an interesting time for Suzuki. And they aren't done yet with new models either! I hope you can get a new bike in near future. Cheers!
Dan, the production quality is top-notch. I mean, sure, I've like the video, but it doesn't do it any justice. I feel like 3 or 4 thumbs up would sum it up much better! Your videos are absolutely superb, do keep 'em coming, please! Cheers!
🔥 adding this to the garage soon.
I absolutely love this bike. Just the looks, stats, and everything in the package all just seem perfect for a rider like me. It may be a bit heavy but I'm sure it's something you'll get used to and hopefully not feel on the road
I wouldn't worry too.much about the weight against the competition.
Your right you will quickly adapt ; Added grunt will assist with cornering balance and punching out of the bends.
It looks better than the hornet but i cant wait to see if it has better perormance too
I’ve watched all the launch videos. You and 44 teeth are clearly the best
That's very kind of you! Mossy is a legend.
Git..
Its Been a long Time Since I Desired a Suzuki, but this one is the Bike to
Do it ...for me
Last one I desired was a DR350SE in white purple and yellow
The trouble is when well known UA-cam bike reviewers goes to the same Bike launch we get a dozen variations of the same thing!!😂
Very true, but I think we all have our own unique view. I'm slow AF so you can see it from that perspective 😂
@@Englishbikerdan I actually enjoyed yours the best as most of us are average bikers too so can see the bike being ridden with a tad more reality!😉👌
Great review! Love the intro. Think I prefer this to the Hornet. Certainly to look at.
Great to see Suzuki have something new to offer, not just a re-work. It seems a lot of manufacturers are going over to a twin cylinder power plant, personally I love it, I'm sure it will sell really well, nice one Suzuki and another great video Dan 👍👏
Great review! I like the looks of this better than the Hornet. And thanks for the reminder to always ride your own ride.
La hornet è superiore in tutto, e venderà il triplo di questo carretto
Did you get in black? The blue one is my next bike.
My choices are this, Triumph Trident and Yamaha MT07. Trident looks the best followed by 8S then MT07. I just wish the taillight wasn’t sticking out on that plastic piece (hideous). Hoping there is a way to tuck the taillight/turn signals up under the tail!
Thats a cracking looking bike👍
Looks quite good in a real world setting, wasn't sure about the looks before hand
With good low end and mid level torque it’s perfect for city/freeway driving.
But much better in the twisties.
I'm just dreaming of a new 850 SV 🥰😍
And a v-twin of course
@@chrishart8548 Absolutely..
That's a dream you'll have to savour! Before long, the SV will be gone as it'll need development to meet eu regs. Plus they won't want to make a v twin as they cost more to manufacture. A real shame, but I fear the end is near.
@trevorphillips3055 👍
Nice to see us Brits aren't the only country to dig a cable trench down the middle of a great piece of road....😂
Right!? Bloody awful! 😂
That is why Romanians flock to the UK, so many uncanny similarities
Same in New Zealand 😂
I’m in the market for a middle bike, this looks like a winner, does it all!!
Sounds good! Looks like a lot of fun! ❤
Suzuki is back!!! 👏🙏
I just wish i could get past the blue wheels. But it's just too fast 😂. Seriously though, even though i hate twins, it's a cracking little bugger. I recommend to all but the most die hard of Vespa fans.
it's definitely a cool bike !!
Thanks for the great video as per, Dan! This bike is on my list of contenders as a first one for when I get my license this year (along with CB650R and Trident 660) love watching your content. Cheers and have a great weekend.
That road looks terrifying and they would be waiting way longer for me to catch up😂
It had some very hairy moments and was icy in some places!
No biggy so learn how to corner well!.
@@leeengelsman1855what’s wrong with his corners?!
I like Fortnine. But I'm sure Suzuki engineers, who've been in the game for decades, know what they are doing.
Let's see how much longer they can keep their charade of being the Walmart of motorcycles.
can't wait for the long-term review on your usual roads, and of course the comparison with the new hornet and mt-07.
Both the hornet and this are better than the mt. The mt is good if you're a street hooligan, the engine is great but other than that there's not much to write home about...
Same, should be happening soon. And I will be testing the new MT07 soon.
Great review. Can't wait for you to do a head-to-head against the Hornet.
It has nothing against the hornet. Suzuki dropped the ball very low. And what the hell is that light doing in the tail unit?
@@povilaslondon Spec sheets aren't everything, and a veteran rider's perspective on both bikes back-to-back is more valuable imo than what any spec sheets can provide. For the tail unit, I guess it's very... KTM-ish? But yeah it's a bit messy compared to the Hornet. I don't think it looks that bad though.
@@gsm_liv8980 well mcn did amazing coverage on new Hornet vs MT07 and honda stole the crown from mt easily. I also think that Neeves is the best motorcycle journalist there is. Check their video, you will like it.
@@povilaslondon Yep I did watch that vid before, but that is the Hornet against the MT. The 8S seems to be a completely different motorcycle than the MT?
@gsm_liv how Is the 8 a completely different motorcycle they all look exactly the same to me except a few cc different and a couple of hp
Thanks!
Fantastic review, well done Dan!! Great to see you again today, made my day!!
Brilliant that Dan! Really enjoyed that buddy, oh the memories of that road...
Cheers dude! That mountain pass! ❤️
Beautiful views my gosh! Bike has my attention too...may well be my next one!
Thanks Mike! Enjoy your new bike! 👍
Well done Dan, an excellent review as always.
Your stuff is getting better Dan, here's a sub.
Thank you so much. ☺️
"I want to see mountains Gandalf" perfect line for a beautiful scenery and motorcycle.
hehe.
It's been a while since I've ridden the 750, but from memory that felt more agile.
Me too and from memory it was very agile I. Town or the BRoads despite its weight. Just watched your GSX S750 review. You loved it I think. Better than on paper and that Gizzer howl.
I wonder if it's possible to put on clip-on handlebars on the bike 🤔
Great vid as always, I'm looking at this as my next bike, between this and triumph trident, when/if do you think you'll ride it in the UK?
Thank you very much for this excellent video Dan. Love the scenery. Would you give this one the edge over the new 750 Hornet?
Love the bike. My only complaint is the brake light isn't on the tail itself. When removing that fender, may be a pain to find an option for the brake light.
Yeah it'll cause some head scratching for tail tidies.
At 10:46 is the road us locals call the James bond road but also used in Jonny English, Ronin etc
Hey great video :) what a ride you had I’m very jealous and hopefully I’ll be able to ride there one day, bike seams pretty nice 👌

nice review. have question for you since you own SV, and im considering one. do you think and will you chose 8s over SV ?
I already chose the SV, so a bit of a difficult one for me to answer. I would certainly consider the 8S if I had not bought the SV.
@@Englishbikerdan waiting for 8s to arrive so I can test them back to back
Suzuki is making a comeback and I think behind closed doors is a secret GSXR given the entire line up has gotten an update aside from the M109 and more simple machines that are probably better left alone.
A GSXR800 would be great. They are also working on getting the GSXR1000 through emissions for Europe.
My invitation must have gotten lost in the mail again😢Looks like heaps of fun, stunning panorama pittoresco.
Being called HondaRyder might put Suzuki off😅
Where in France are these roads?!?! BREATHTAKING.
glad to see you riding your own ride. Worry about you!!!! chasing faster riders
i realy like honda's, but hey man, you hit the spot with this video on suzuki :) well done.
Have to. Ask you, as you have ridden both, if you had to buy one would it be this one or the Hornet ?
I'd need to ride the 8S a little more to decide. I've ridden the Hornet quite a lot recently.
How was the peg hight? Were they as high as the faster naked sports?
That road looks so awesome I want to experience it. What area of france was that in again?
Antibes, southeast of France, it's between Cannes and Nice.
Would you choose this or the Hornet? Great review and stunning roads.
Ooh good question, one I'll answer in due course!
Great review I’ve watched it twice , certainly an interesting motorcycle but if you were picking which would you own Hornet , MT07, GSX8-S ?
Thanks mate, tough question. It would definitely be between the Hornet and 8S.
What an absolutely gorgeous road and scenery! Where is it please?
Epic road with a good rider
Wish it was yellow or red.
I do have to admit it is a pretty cool bike, but at the same time I can't help but feel like I'm going to miss when the sv650 isn't for sale anymore
Same, the SV is a classic already.
Me to!.
The headlight design reminds me of the Predator's mouth!
Yeah I can see it! 😂
In the words of Dutch....
"You're one ugly mother fugga!"
I'm glad to see Suzuki hasn't lost its "hi hi hu hu ha ha" effect..😊
Love the video and that bike
I've been droling on the Suzuki GSX 1000S.
Hey Dan
Having now ridden the New Hornet & 8S, which do you prefer?
Must admit after sitting on them both at the Excel in Feb based on seating position and feel I prefer the 8S.
I'll need to ride the 8S on my local roads to figure out which I'd buy.
Seems like the camera man has zero fear. Chilling on the rocks behind the snail barrier to capture the footage.... Jeeze.... Wonder if Dan would swap his sv for this....
I probably would!
except for pillion comfort everything seems nice
will this be good second bike (after KTM390 2018my) for 188cm tall 100kilo guy? considering this or new xsr900
Ok I’m getting this one
This looks better than the current MT09 model. However, does it bring that big grin to your face?
I'd say the MT09 engine has more of that fun factor due to the extra power.
3 cylinders are fun. Own a STR before. One of my mates own KTM Duke 890r. He says it's as fun as MT09 eventhough it's 2 cylinder. Might be the bore and piston difference.
