Paint A Simple Loose Watercolour Seascape, Breaking Waves, Negative Painting Watercolor Tutorial

  • / loisdavidsonart www.etsy.com/u... Today's demo is a simple loose watercolour seascape painting of waves crashing and breaking on rocks, inspired by a photo from Pixabay: pixabay.com/ph... My main focus was on painting most of the wave negatively by painting round it, then adding subtle shading near the end.
    Materials: Millford 100% cotton cold pressed paper, 11" x 15"/28cm x 38cm, various brushes, see video, but use whatever brushes you prefer. I used a limited palette of Cotman watercolour tube paints in yellow ochre, indigo and paynes grey, but use whatever colours and brushes you prefer if you feel like trying this tutorial.
    My board is at an angle of about 45-60 degrees.
    Many thanks to my lovely Patrons for your support!

    Hi Lois, what a coincidence l sould find this today. Yesterday l was sat at our beach watching waves crashing on the rocks and taking umpteen photos. I have been thinking how l could best portray them in a painting. Thank you for this great tutorial which has inspired me. I love loose painting. Thanks again Alioban x

    Im always so mystified, how do you not get green by mixing indigo with various yellows? This is so lovely!

    • @LoisDavidsonArt
      @LoisDavidsonArt  3 роки тому +2

      I only use brown type yellows (raw sienna or sometines yellow ochre) in this sort of painting, unless you make an effort and really scrub the paint together, they don't readily make green

    Lovely result Lois, mine would have started with a green effect on sky and water. How did you get your blues and yellow to stay separate?

    • @LoisDavidsonArt
      @LoisDavidsonArt  3 роки тому +1

      I think yellow ochre and raw sienna are more brown than true yellows so don’t make green when applied as I did
