One thing you might have mentioned for the people that are new to bow setup. They should setup the bow and get brace height set and let the string get some of its stretching done before you set your nock points
I’ve been waiting to set my nocks for this reason. My bow string has stretched about 2 inches since I put it on. So just record your brace height(s) to be sure no more stretching is going on, then nock.
I love that demonstration on the assembly of the bow and setting it up to use. That was a great instruction and helped me so much. Thanks for sharing this information with us all.
It has been quite a few years since I shot with my recurve bow and going back to it now I can see that my brace height is about 6 inches. I hope I can get enough twists in the string to bring it back within spec.
Have you reviewed the *"WONDER FITTER"* in home archery system? It looks like they are selling it as a fitness & training device. The channel is *Wonderfitter Luke.* out of Hong Kong. He's talking about "reverse" archery. I've been shooting a recurve for half a century & never heard that term. They also say their system "uses real recurve bows and *blunt dry-firing arrows* ..." 🤔
My bow did not come wit an arrow rest. I thought the arrow press on the wooden platform. It did come with that black sticker but it was. not clear from the video how that would form a rest surface. It looks like it would just stick on flat. Is there another part? Any clarification appreciated.
I'm only beginning with archery but before setting the knock points, I was aligning the arrow straight straight against the rest but after setting my knock points 3/8ths of an inch higher from the center, according to your video, my arrow is resting kinda tilted. I don't know if that's the way it's supposed to be?
It is supposed to be that way. This allows for proper clearance as the arrow leaves the bow. If you went with a level nocking point, you could have clearance issues.
I have a different model from Landcaster but this How-To seems pretty universal. Could you please tell me how many times thr string should be twisted before attaching it to a 66-inch Recurve?
I just purchased a bow from you guys. I don't own a bow square, so I was hoping to just use a basic carpenter's triangle hanging off the string to find a point perpendicular to the top of the shelf (I am shooting off the shelf). How high above the top of the shelf should the nock point be? Thanks
I just got a recurve now that uses hex bolts for the limb bolts, so obviously it’s pretty easy to get them really tight. Should I be doing them up pretty much only finger right then?
I have noticed with another seller that offers set up that you can choose between 3 under or split for the nok points. So my question is, is the recommendation you give in this video for 3 under or split or for either? Also, I'm curious about the brace height...will I need to reset that any time I take down the bow or does the string generally keep the twists that you've added to it for the proper height.
What nock height do I set for three under draw? Mine is 5/8 inch high and works for split finger but always shoots my arrows into the ground if I use three under.
A lot of people write rude replies when saying what they would have liked to have seen in a video... Do not understand why can't just be constructive....
I've necer understood why people use two nocks. the nock under the arrow can cause the arrow to pinch or fall off if too close and can also cause a shooter to nock an arrow under both nocks with a follow up shot where you can't take your eyes off the deer or other target. If anything I would put two nocks on top, next to each other to prevent slippage. Of course, I wouldn't use a brass nock anyway, a tied on knot is lighter, stays put usually, and rarely causes a cut in the serving like a brass nock can especially if you are using a string with mono type serving, which is something else I wouldn't do.
Due to some joint problems I have I cannot pull a bow traditionally. Is there any real reason why you couldn't put a d loop on a traditional bow and use a release?
Out here at the veterans hospital that's exactly what we do. Some guys don't have enough fingers to do it the "traditional " way. If it works for you than do it
I've never heard of a release making any bow LESS forgiving. I've never heard of any archery competiton anywhere that has release shooters being outscored by finger shooters.
No. I shoot off the shelf with silencers on my string and it doesn't cause any problems. I did, however, put them on a bit loose first so I could move them and find the spot that gives the best quieting.
So you do have to buy another couple things, well thanks for the video. Its great, not a stretched out video and is pretty simple. Considering getting the samick sage
I have an OMP, the one almost the same with the sage, the string won't align with the limb slot. What could be the problem? I can't draw it coz the string loosens when you fire. Scary...
RS - OK, what model are we talking about here specifically? Some take-down's (like my Impala) have places where you can adjust the pocket / mount where the limb bolts on. If you have a pronounced limb twist, you might be able to adjust that. However, if it's too far gone, it might be a limb replacement. Also, if the limb bolts are torqued properly, the string should never loosen.
Hey everyone, I know this is a WHILE after this vid came out so I don’t expect a reply anytime soon but I was wondering: If we add twists to the bowstring do the twists undo themselves each time? Do we have to retwist each time we string the bow?
The twists will not undo themselves unless you remove the string from the bow. The string might stretch, which would then require adding more twists, but as long as the string is on the bow, the original twists you put in it will stay in place.
I find the second nocking point confuses some people. They will absentmindedly nock the arrow under the bottom nocking point causing a wild shot. I stopped using two points a long time ago.
Guys don't make the same mistake I just did when pushing the string up I had my fingers on the inside of the string and it dug into my fingers and it hurts quite abit
Ok so I'm a complete beginner getting into archery as a meditation. I just purchased by first recurve bow (Rolan Snake onepiece carbon fiber) today and this video left me with more questions : How bad is it that I have to step on my bow to string it ? Should I buy a bow stringer ? How often should I remove the string ? Why should I care about setting my nocking points ? I'm not buying a bow square, how do I decide where to set these points ? My bow came with an armguard and it's terribly uncomfortable. Do I really need to wear this thing ?
1. You shouldn't have to step on your bow to string it. Please don't ever do that. That is definitely bad. 2. Yes, you should buy a bow stringer. 3. You don't need to remove the string if you shoot the bow all the time. If you know it's going to sit for a couple months without any shooting, then unstring it. 4. You MUST care about setting your nocking points because this is how you know you are nocking in the same place every time, and that where you are nocking is the correct position for optimum arrow flight. The video discusses where to set your points. The instructions are very specific because that's the proper place to set those points. It would be hard to find 3/8 of an inch above zero without a bow square, which is why we use one. 5. You don't necessarily need the armguard, but it can save you from some serious pain, and can keep loose sleeves from interfering with your shots. You can always get a different one that is comfortable.
Hey Daniel, while using your legs is definitely faster, it may put unwanted torque on your limbs. Newer limbs are usually strong enough to take this motion without issues for a while, but even the best are not meant to be strung like this (except for some styles of traditional bows). If possible, it is always safer and better for your bow to use a stringer. Keep shooting, and remember to always have fun!
Best video on this subject on UA-cam ........ cheers bud. Personally, I would string the bow and leave it for 24 hours first though, and THEN set everything up👍
What do you do about the alignment of the nocking points when you unstring the bow after you shoot? Meaning, you need to exactly know the correct amount of twists. And what to so when the string stretches .
Couple things.....when you unstring the bow, you can just slide one end of the string down the limb so it actually stays connected, and then it does not untwist. If you are going to remove the string to break the bow down, you should connect the loop ends so it doesn't untwist. Also, when you string the bow each time, measure the brace to make sure that number is consistent. If you measure each time, then you know right away if you need to add/remove twists.
I don’t understand what I did wrong? The string is too close to my hand so when I release it snaps my palm every time. I already did the whole twist the string thing & it just still too close yo my hand.
That is simplest, clearest demonstration I've seen on line , thank you .
God Bless you!!!

8 years on and I'm glad I found this video will need it in a few days 👍
This was a find and a half , my exact bow and all the information I was after . Big up yourself 👍🏼
This was so easy to understand and to-the-point. I've watched it three times. Thanks so much!!😊
Explaining stuff is a talent. This man has that talent.
i just got a recurve bow and trying to figure out how to set it thanks alot
Shooting my Cabelas 40# Sabrehawk again this year. Forgot how much fun it is.
Thank you, so straight forward and simple. Sign of an excellent teacher.
This video was soooooooo helpful. Thank you very, very much for teaching me how to properly string a recurve bow!
Fantastic Instructional. I’m a complete beginner who just purchased 3 recurve bows and was lost as to how string them. Thank you
Wow how awesome, I just bought my first recurve bow and it just happens to be the Samick Sage.
Thanks for this, I needed a recap because I haven’t managed to practice during covid and this was perfect
Its been a year. And I couldnt not remember. Thank you
Wow I kinda feel like I can take a shot at setting up my bows on my own now. Thanks for this!
I love that demonstration on the assembly of the bow and setting it up to use. That was a great instruction and helped me so much. Thanks for sharing this information with us all.
This vid helped me better understand my bow. Thanks
i bought the same kind of bow yesterday off a Friend minus the String. i ordered 2 replacement strings for it :>
You are such a good teacher. Just after watching your video I was able to identify all the parts and assemble my bow right away!
Thank you so much!!
It has been quite a few years since I shot with my recurve bow and going back to it now I can see that my brace height is about 6 inches. I hope I can get enough twists in the string to bring it back within spec.
well that answered questions i hadn't even thought off lol TY

same here
How to the plastic vanes pass through on this type of rest?
Im new to archery - would someone be able to explain the 2 measurements on the lower limb?
Great my pse nighthawk insert came off.

It is supposed to be that way. This allows for proper clearance as the arrow leaves the bow. If you went with a level nocking point, you could have clearance issues.
ok .. I'll take your word for it since you are more experienced. But I'll find out the difference along the way. Thanks a lot for your guidance.
God Bless you!!!
What if you’re string is too tight and it can’t slide into the groove no matter how much force?
So I just got a recurve and I noticed their is a peice of Velcro on the throat is that suppose to be there
Brilliant mate from England
That was straight to the point - can't nock you for that! Cheers - Dave :-)
What if you've been putting the big loop on the bottom? Does that really matter?
I just got my recurve bow and the string is too long what do I do
I have this same exact set up. Can I leave my bow strung for a long period of time?
I read it's probably best to take it of if you're not using it for a long time. I know it's a bit of a ball ache
I only have one nocking point attaching arrow underneath. I see you used two points to center, is this advantageous? Thank you.
LOL I should have watched this first. You don't want to know what I did on my first try...
Lol correct 👍🏽😅
I have a different model from Landcaster but this How-To seems pretty universal. Could you please tell me how many times thr string should be twisted before attaching it to a 66-inch Recurve?
Does the logo on the limbs always go on the bottom no matter what the brand?

should the arrow when nocked be perpendicular to the string before you draw? Thanx great vid!!
I get why you put twist in the string, my question is, after unstringing do I have to retwist when I restring?
You tend to lose some twist when un-strung, just check the brace height and add twist if needed. its quick and no big deal when you get used to it...
I just got a recurve now that uses hex bolts for the limb bolts, so obviously it’s pretty easy to get them really tight. Should I be doing them up pretty much only finger right then?

What is the benefit of using a stick on rest vs. just shooting off the shelf?
The rest is more forgiving because there is less arrow contact.
Great video. Is the black sheep nova the samme as samick sage and is it good quality?
Why is the bottom limb the bottom limb? What's the difference between the limbs?
What nock height do I set for three under draw?
Mine is 5/8 inch high and works for split finger but always shoots my arrows into the ground if I use three under.
Limb bolts are only finger tight?

are you able to shoot vanes off of that arrow rest or no?
Yes you can!
Lancaster Archery Supply thanks!
But feathers are better. I shoot vanes at the moment, but I get more accuracy with 4" RW helical feathers. Just damn expensive to convert.
My s1 "Strong limb" recurve bow is 68 inch length, What Size bow string should i get?
I have a left handed bow, but my rest looks like its for the right handed bow. Does it matter? Will it mess up the shot?
Yes it matters. You need a rest to match your bow
Great video. thanks!
If you set your knocking point and then add beaver balls or rubber mushrooms to your string does this change the knocking point?
No. I shoot off the shelf with silencers on my string and it doesn't cause any problems. I did, however, put them on a bit loose first so I could move them and find the spot that gives the best quieting.
Very helpful video! Nice job.

Needed a manual tutorial
Now on to buy all the tools 😅
Did the Limb alignment thing came with the bow?
Yes it does.
Thank you, the video was really helpful
Plz send the link of the bow
Dude just look up Samick Sage.
Do you really need 2 nocks?
The arrow rest for my bow doesn't fit
Is it for the correct side?
Very informative
thanks great video
I find the second nocking point confuses some people. They will absentmindedly nock the arrow under the bottom nocking point causing a wild shot. I stopped using two points a long time ago.
Why use that crappy rest? This bow shoots best right off the shelf!
It doesn’t come with a bow stringerrr

how heavy is this bow???
edit: i mean the draw weight
40 lbs.
Guys don't make the same mistake I just did when pushing the string up I had my fingers on the inside of the string and it dug into my fingers and it hurts quite abit
It was so long ago before i shot with my bow so i need to watch to learn how to ready the string lmao
No problem, man. Better safe than sorry. Don't wanna break the bow or string or anything like that.
lol I just step on the riser and bottom/top limb and pull the other one up.
That is really bad for your bow my dude
@@typhoon37351 Yeh i know. It's a bad habit.
You can use woodprix instructions to build it in the cheapest way.
2 knocks? I only put the top one...

Eric, we've been using brass nocking points for decades without problems.
Twist string to 7.5"
OK, but how do you know what is optimal from that point for fine tuning?
Chris Duke, I’ve heard that your brace height is ideal when the bow is at its quietest
Most bows will say what brace height is best for it. It can be different between bows.
God Bless you!!!
its maybe nice to have stringer more practical would be to show how to string a bow without it. I am using just my legs ;) .. it's also faster.
