The first half of the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
I love your channel just found it and kinda addicted to your vids
Wife: "You are fast"
Alex: But not too fast
Had me rolling!
Ok boomer
When you modify a load bearing wall your supposed to build temporary supports. A 2x4 across the floor and the ceiling with 2x4s between as needed. Then do your demo. In this case you were probably fine because it was a short section of wall. But for anyone watching this, modifying a load bearing wall and supports go hand in hand.
That's what acroprops are for.
It that was load bearing, it would have sagged or collapsed.
That "header" didnt even have cripples under it .. it was nailed into the 2x4 beside it only .. transfering weight through nails lol
Right! It's really important. Everyone please likes these review to the top. I think the beam/header just supports the up floor internal wall, not supporting the roof, so it didn't take up too much weight. In any case, temporary supports should be built before taking out any structural members.
@@TPen I was wondering if anyone else would catch that.
Yeah horrible builder forgot cripples or not load bearing.. and no temp bracing is straight loco.. shouldn't listen to this guys building advice.
Also he suggested "screws" for framing.. not sure regular screws are code approved due to their low sheer strength..
If you ever feel like dumping stuff off from your truck bed, try putting a tarp down to make dragging everything out that much easier!!! Less work if the material isn't too heavy. It's helped me out a lot with time management.
The vlogs are a great idea, keep ‘em coming!
Yes, love the vlog idea! Also, please show more footage of the finished product, it's always just a quick glimpse. Thanks!
You should create that extra space into a hidden door for a safe. Keep up on the vlogs!
I LOVE that idea. I'm a dog lover but I'd appreciate a hidden safe more than I would a built in dog house. Especially since dogs come in so many different sizes so it's hard to buid something for a dog that you don't have.
Yes I like these video. Please continue!
I honestly cannot get enough of his videos
Congratulations to you and your wife, with your little one!!!
Wife : what are you doing
Alex : it fell I swear
Wife: and the tools just popped up
Alex : yes I believe so
😂😂😂😂😂😂👀
Congrats on the baby!
This is great. You have my vote for this format.
Yes, open up the other space for a cubby for the kids or pets...add a light and everything!! love!
Yeah keep doing what you’re doing brother. The wife and I enjoy watching all of your video’s.👍👍
Yeah I like the idea of you making little vlog style vids 👍🏻👍🏻
Your house is stunning inside, you and your wife have great taste!
2:45 when the beat kicks in and you think youtube has jumped to a demolition ranch abandoned mansion video!
Good taste in music Alex!
Leaf blower in the truck to clean it out at the dump... Brilliant!
I like this style video. We can watch the progression as it happens.
ONE longer video with the entire project completed is way better!!!
CONGRATULATIONS ON THE BABY!!!
A small door in that under staircase area to store things or a doggy house is perfect :-)
I love how north american buildings (I don't know in europe) are made of paper and wood. Here in Brazil (I think wood plate is expensive here cuz we don't have straight trees) we use to build EVERYTHING you can imagine from bricks, concrete and iron pillars. Like: oh, I need to build a half wall inside this room... No problem: Brick wall, 1 centimeter of concrete around it, plastering, spackling and paint.
Love this format. Getting to see more of the in between work is awesome.
I like this type of video, keeps you coming back for more. Keep up the good work!
I like this vlog style showing the process!
Use that extra little space as a reading nook for your new baby coming in the future!!! That's what we are going to do!
CONGRATS ON YOUR BABY MAN
I really enjoyed this style of video. It felt more personal, like you were talking to me and not at me.
Definitely love your videos and you are absolutely the man please keep it up love the idea of small videos more often. !
Congrats on the new edition in the family. I've got a space like that across my butler's pantry. I'll keep following this story to see what you did with it
Yes! These vlog style videos give a chance for a lot of context to the reasoning behind the decision, and that's where I'm going to be at pre-projects. So, it helps with the mindset. Not to mention, congratulations, Papa Build It!
Vids like these are great! Gets us more content to watch and gives you me content to upload!
*Great video. You are very informative and make everything easy to understand to someone like me that has never done any DIY! Well, I’ve helped my dad. But nothing on my own. Looking forward to seeing the outcome. Please keep these vlogs coming!!*
Keep these videos coming man.
Great energy man, keeping trucking along, love the positive vibes and creative ideas
Love it, mate 👍🏽
I think breaking a big build down to multiple 10 minute vids is the way to go. 👌🏽
Looking forward to the second installment!
Thanks brother
I’m a fan. Can’t wait to see the final results.
Congratulations on the baby homie!
Great opportunity to learn from you! Keep them coming!!
Yes more construction vlog!! Helps the learning process. Would you consider doing a home tour and sharing your before and afters of what you’ve done ?
Yes. Totally. When we’re done
instaBlaster...
Congratulations on the kid have one come too keep the vids coming relying on them !!!
I like this style of video. Great job in total.
Huge fan of your videos! I will say it now, you will reach 500k subscribers in a matter of months. Keep it up!
Love the vlog style, it shows the process which is my favourite part!! Keep it up!
I like both styles. But Im not complaining with the vlog entries, because we get content way sooner!!! 🥳
Absolutely do more! About two weeks ago I was talking to my husband about this exact project with our nearly structurally identical stairs / awkward closet, so this video was very a helpful preview :P
Congratulations on the baby on the way!! very well done!!
Having 60fps videos on yt is so satisfying
Yess! I love the vlogs. Can’t wait for the next one
Great video, can't wait to see the complete project.
10 or so minutes/video is nice!
Congrats on the new addition!
I love the idea please do the mini blogs
Congrats on the new baby!
Love your videos by the way,
The way you interact with the camera is awesome! Keep it up 👍👍👍👍
Keep doing these mini vlogs bro!! Enjoyed it!
Love the vlogs!! You make everything look so easy. It makes me think I can start tackling projects. Courage and sweat my guy!
Great idea for progress vlog!!
Only found your channel a few months ago but your projects are awesome keep them coming! You should do a before/after of all the projects you completed so far and do a house tour
Appreciate the vlog! Can’t wait for the final result.
Yes I like that idea. Keep them coming.!!!!
Liking the vlog between videos
You’re the man, inspired me to make plans and at least try!
Pull out drawers for shoes etc in the lower part of the staircase... perfect
Love the video!!! I will keep watching.
Love this type of video
I love the vlogs. Now am hungry to see the outcome
I didn't really like the idea of vlogs/small updates at first but I am pleasantly surprised, actually liked it a lot. Great content and quality. Keep up the good work! :D
🙌
Yes, continue. I want to do storage under my stairs in the basement, thinking about wine storage
Congrats on the new baby!
Didnt know that. CONGRATS!!!🥳🥳🎉🎉🎉🎉
Dude you’re awesome your home is coming out flawless! I need to lose
My fear and start knocking down walls in my home too !
It doesn't look like that door header is being supported by anything so its probably not load bearing....
No jack studs supporting it before so yeah probably not load bearing, your rightt
I agree, but always CYA 😉
I have no structural experience but even I could tell it's not load bearing
There in previous frames of the video. He pulled them by the time he got to the “load” bearing part. You can see the nails sticking up
And I agree with Evan, it’s not load bearing. It was just a header over the door
A great idea for that closed off storage area underneath the stairs would be great for a built in wine fridge.
I love the progress vlog videos!!!!!!!
Yes I’m down for in between videos. That’s what I was trying to do with my channel but man it’s a lot of work. So I hope you can keep up, I like your content a lot 😊
Do this vlogs and the big makeover! I liked it!
love the vlog entrys
You could make the stairs drawers to utilise the space behind them. Also, update vlogs are a great idea, looking forward to them.
Every time I hear "load-bearing wall" I have a mild panic attack. I just imagine knocking out that beam and everything comes falling down.
Same, lol. I'm like... how do you know how long it can stand without being supported?! lol
I've seen it happen. We got out just in time to watch the roof buckle. My wife, was, well, not happy with me.
The property bros put the fear in me with load bearing walls lol
The Brown RAT oh thanks for the advice, I’ll take out every supporting beam on my 2nd floor because I need to redecorate. Hopefully my house won’t sag too fast before I can put up new support beams!
Dat wasn't really a load bearing wall
Love your stuff, can't wait for the finished look!
I like the vlog, it fills in the wait time.
But looking at the rug covered in dust and drywall gave me anxiety!
Great start and keep it going!
Keep these coming! Really enjoyed it 🙌
I’m not a structural engineer, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express once. I got this.
It's a very small section of load bearing wall and you only had it apart for a very short time, but it's always good practice to support it once you've removed the header from the jack studs so nothing settles too hard. Love the videos man, keep 'em comin.
Vlogs are a good way to go
Love the vlog entry ! Courage and sweat !
This project is going to be an awesome one!
Everything you build/make is aesthetic. I love your overall style and loving these videos. Good work as always
Keep up the new video style can’t wait to see the next video
Aww, now I want to see you make a cute cradle or a playspace or some kind of outdoor play thing. lol step stool for going potty or brushing teeth?
It's perfect, health in your hands
Keep it coming brother!
Give that other little area a door and use it to store your oncoming babies toys. Trust me you will need it.
under stair shoe storage the pullout drawer shelf at the bottom hooks at the top for school bags, back up baby stuff for a diaper bag
I was thinking bout turning that little spot into a doggy/cat room🤣🤣
i have no interest in building , i cant build , i own not a single tool , i have a rental place , and yet im watching this.
this guy is pure entertainment.
😂
