Seriously this movie has been one of the best I've seen in years, I was losing hope any western studio could still produce fun, likeable movies anymore without forced in political agendas.

Another thing too is that for a hero, Puss is a very highly flawed character that's motivation is on selfishness and cowardice. Puss isn't a Gary Stu, despite all he wanted to present himself as for others.

I missed it when good movies are good movies and bad movies are bad movies and not everything has to be the blame on politics like right now. Seriously, we put too much blame on the liberal left for ruining good movies because of diversity and representation but does that even matter? A bad movie is bad because of the writing and other things not because they added a character of color, sex ,etc. You can be a fundamental Christian and a right wing conservative Trump supporter and you can still make cruddy crappy shitty God awful movies and TV shows and force our faith in Jesus Christ down our throats. Diversity should not be the blame for the reason why a movie is bad and all this anti-Wolk nonsense should I be the blame for the reason why the movie is good. That’s stupid two-party system should not have happened ever. And this mess continues in social media time and we bring political views drama around animation and entertainment. Faith Hass to stop. If people just love one another, and accept those for who we are and respect each other, none of this would have happened.
I was almost shocked at how well-written, and just plain entertaining Puss in Boots was. It just shows how important writing is.

This is interesting to think about in our lives. Is death really the antagonist? I could ask my pastor about it since he had previously done a homily about it.
But to me, who really is death? Maybe some sort of spiritual figure that waits until the hour of our death? Saints have mocked death and even asked where its sting was. (Probably getting off point here, but still)
The fact he spared him near the end of the movie when Puss bravely fought back with the help of his friends was the best.
To be honest I don't like how Disney keeps saying "First (insert LGBT, minority, female, male, etc here) character to (insert action here)". Just stop advertising like that Disney. It's diluting the excitement.

All my criticism stems from her not being portrayed accurately.
Her voice is too deep, she hyper aggressive and almost always chooses violence over diplomacy. She doesn’t use any of her magical abilities, emotion powers or even her parasol.( seriously the halberd should have been her parasol.)
Also she is never vulnerable so we never see her soft side,( we even get to see dks vulnerable side making him slightly more relatable.)
I didn’t hate her portrayal in the movie, but it’s not peach from the video games.

@@firenze6478 Personality isn't super accurate to game Peach but Movie Peach is just super show Peach minus the 80s kid cartoon-ness. Its clear that's the non game version of Peach a lot of the ppl working on this film grew up with. And She is diplomatic, that was the whole point of visiting the Kongs. It was Cranky that said they had to beat DK first and Peach was trying to talk Mario out of it. After that she's seen very clearly involved in the rainbow road strategy meeting (granted the movies light on dialogue so not much is said in general beyond "we have a secret route" lol), she literally gives herself up to Bowser just to save ONE Toad (there you go for your vulnerability) who chose, pretty much insisted, he stay with her rather than evacuate, she's very thoughtful of others throughout this film.
Another thing, you wouldn't call the fire flower hill scene her being vulnerable to Mario and explaining her history, why age loves the toads so much and her longing to know where she truly comes from? Sure it ain't sad or a low point, but she's still emotionally opening up about something important to her to Mario and the audience.
I get it she's not the Peach we play as/save but it's not a portrayal without precedent and i think it was done well as far as this movie goes. Learning where she comes from is one of the things im excited about most for future movies especially when this is the first time in almost 40 years where her not being a mushroom person ruling over a kingdom of mushroom people is getting addressed, aside from the very odd but interesting theory bait implications (that will likely never get addressed until decades from now) the toadette power up gives her game counterpart.

I think Peach is in the exact spot strong female roles should be. Instead of just overpowering bowser by stealing the star for her own use with no help from no man, she used smarts to out think bowser so that Mario could get a fighting chance against the king koopa.

Death as a twist villain could actually be pretty cool. I mean they could still introduce him at the start of the movie in the bar the same way they originally did, then introduce some small minor character who for whatever reason is there for a lot of significant parts of the story and in the end have him transform back into the wolf to reveal he’d been keeping an eye on Puss the whole movie.
I honestly don't see Peach as a girlboss no matter how people want to spin it. She still gets overwhelmed and nearly gets Luigi killed by taking on Bowser and his minions alone. Had DK and Mario not been there, things would have been bad.
If anything, that scene really hammered home the theme of being stronger together with the people closest to you.

Delayed the movie longer, scrapped everything that was animated, gone overbudget like the 93' film causing studios to massively distrust Nintendo in film again, and redo everything from the ground up just to make Peach a damsel in distress start to finish with her personality being the embodiment of the Trad Wife meme? That, to me, sounds like a losing option that would have caused more problems than necessary.
Peach is most known for being a damsel in distress but she's also got a flexibility in her character to be heroic when she needs to be. Several games and even manga adaptations of Mario games have displayed this part of her. People who don't recognize this are either willfully ignorant or don't play Mario games in general.

(She's perfectly capable of escaping on her own, but she gets kidnapped with such frequency that it's just easier for her to wait for Mario since having backup makes it far easier for her to both escape and avoid getting captured for the umpteenth millionth time...) Though she's also known to use body doubles too....
As for my theory as to why Bowser Jr. May have thought her to be his mom in sunshine.... Well she does get kidnapped alot, and presumably he hatched from an Egg so she may have been the first person he saw after hatching...
Not surprising, Disney seems to think anything they make will be a hit, even if they don't put in the effort

Princess Peach was portrayed how Miyamoto always wanted to portray her as. Guy just couldn't crawl out of the "save the Princess" storyline, but she is still very strong and very capable in many other Mario series like RPG, the Paper Mario games, Smash Bros, Super Princess Peach etc
the RPG's are mostly none canon. Paper Mario is another universe. Smash brose is a fighting game and super princess peach is a one-off.
Miyamoto has a history of scraping story. It's gotten to the point where he even argued with people like the lead Zelda producer.

What about Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario bros 2? And she still sends Mario useful items in several games, as well as attempting to escape on her own in 3D land. Her overall personality in the movie is fairly different in the movie, though I’m not saying that’s a bad thing.
Also, Mario is a series famously known for being loose with its canon.
I remember how everyone was worried about the Mario movie being woke and Peach being a Mary Sue, but I reminded people that they refused to bend the knee after the SJWs threw a temper tantrum and demanded Nintendo to remove Mario's poncho and sombrero costume from Super Mario Odyssey. All amazing films that didn’t or don’t need to be remade and where fine on their own.

Puss in boots was indeed a legendary movie. The first time I went to go see it with my dad and my younger brother, I immediately fell in love! The part with Puss in boots having a panic attack hit close to home as someone who has social anxiety. I’ve never seen panic attacks portrayed so well in media. Death and Jack Horner were great villains as well, one being amoral and the other being evil for the sake of it. Perrito was a comedy relief character that wasn’t annoying and Kitty Softpaws and Goldi were strong female characters! Disney really needs to step up it’s game because the last wish was a masterpiece!!

Im not lying, their story about colonization in America and how it affected its inhabitants through the eyes of a HORSE is my favorite movie 21 years later.
Apart from a few duds, DreamWorks has always been the more entertaining studio to me. They tend to pick weird stories and styles that somehow work out even though, for all intents and purposes, it shouldn’t.

Disney is entering a new dark age, their movies still might be making money but history won't be kind to all the soulless remakes. I dont think the remakes will age well while the animated originals are timeless classics.

The Mario movie is just like the games: It's a simple, fun movie that really anyone can latch onto and enjoy. It really feels like the kind of movie Disney needs right now, instead of desperately clinging to properties audiences are growing tired of. Truthfully, I feel like that's Disney's biggest issue right now. They've really just worn us out on their big properties. I'm just kind of sick of Marvel and Star Wars, and I don't think anyone likes the live action remakes of classics. Something new would be nice, even if it's kind of safe. Hell, did anyone watch the movie "Luck" From Apple? It was honestly pretty decent and I enjoyed more than most Disney films as of late.

I'm gonna say something controversial. I think Disney was at its best in it's "bronze age" through the 70s/80s. Yes, the company was on its knees, whilst kneecapping it's animators, but those veteran animators knew how to still flex their chops on the thinnest of shoestrings. Milt Kahl did his best work. And their stories were a lot more subdued and thoughtful to do the heavy lifting when talent just couldn't overcome the real lack of manpower.
Humble pie is a very healthy thing.

@@nerychristian from a technical standpoint, absolutely. The technology and scale really let the new generation of animators (Andreas Deja in particular) stretch their legs and prove themselves as legends in their own right and worthy successors to the 9 old men who mentored many of them.
But I look at a character like Madame Medusa, and I see Milt Kahl clawing his way to his own animator's Mount Everest. The detail in every one of her micro-movements is insane.

Puss in Boots and Spider-Man into the Spiderverse felt like massive breaths of fresh air in the animated scene. Now with the Mario movie and its future sequel, Across the Spiderverse likely about to be a hit at the box office, and the TMNT about to hit theaters too, I hope Disney gets the wake up call that its time to really give some love to what made them big in the first place.

Elemental looks decent with their teaser and trailer,but Wish looks like it could be more fun to watch than Elemental. Wish is like a Disney classic,with musicals,villain,animal sidekick,seems like a fairy tale,in my opinion atleast
Another reason why Disney is going downhill is because most of the audience has grown up and their still trying to appease the old audience and not the new one.

That's actually the problem. They're trying to appeal to a mythical 'wider audience' that doesn't exist and they're trying to tap into social issues that only impact a fraction of the population which isn't going to generate them the larger growth they're trying to seek.
They are actively sacrificing the old audience they do have for a 'new' one that doesn't exist.
There is no 'new' audience and they are running out the old one that would bring them the actual new audience with zero effort on their part with accusations on how evil, bigoted, and misguided, they are.

The money that makes older IPs big comes from an older more established audience but they won't be around forever. The only way to get more money is to get fresh new faces into the fandom. This is where the lie of 'modern' audiences comes from.
It's buzzword talk of 'modern' audiences. They want ALL the money and that means they need the old fans who are still willing to put money into the franchise and spend these thousands of dollars and they need newer people who were never in the fandom to get on the bandwagon.
Thus they can get a wider audience'. Ergo, more money.
Illumination had little involvement in the Mario Movie in the end.
At first they were the main power behind it, but after a screening for nintendo, nintendo decided to take the project away from them, and rather be their leading power themselves.
Thats the reason why in the endcredits illumination is only credited for the character models and animations.

@@mattphillips3537 You can see some elements of it with how fine the line was between Peach being a girl boss in the current release version. She likely would have faced DK and flattened him with Mario continuing to be a bumbler in this new world instead of finding his groove toward the end.
Nintendo saw the script where Mario got sidelined in his own movie by Peach, literally barged into the office with a Miyazaki "No Cuts" threat and course corrected. The movie would have ended very differently from the Mario and Luigi "Super Mario Brothers" action sequence team up we got.

I think Nintendo has gotten a lot more protective of how their characters are portrayed since Mario Bros ‘93. After that debacle they probably want to make sure nobody messes with their characters too much.
IKR, I don’t know what it is with Disney nowadays but they really need to step up their game. Other companies like Illumination and Dreamworks are beating them at making good movies.

One day, once they make enough Nintendo movies, they’ll likely make a Smash Bros movie.
Disney WOULDN'T have made a Mario movie where Mario & Luigi's existences are solely for the purpose of making sure Princess Peach looks badass, because Nintendo would've stepped in to completely rewrite the script, and if Disney still tried to make the movie all about Peach they likely would've completely pulled out of the project.
I guess that’s why they went with Illumination, a smaller company means less studio interference. They clearly learned their lesson from last time.
Yeah, if they ranted about Bowser holding his teacup wrong in a roughly 3 minute scene at the start of Wreck It Ralph, I feel it wouldn't be a large step of Nintendo to do that.

I think dreamworks makes the first movie of each franchise very introductory to each and every character and its more personal, and then when the sequel comes around, we already know the characters and seeing them in new situations with a deep understanding of them really enhances the experience

If Netflix made Puss in Boots they would realise part 2 much earlier (like a year later) and make so many sequals until nobody watches them again and then 20 years later release the Real life Version that nobody watches (and make Goldie the main characters and yes as a Black lesbian)
My favorite peach part was in smash bros brawl where she stops sheik and fox from fighting with an instant tea set. It shows her diplomacy and sweet side and prevented an unnecessary fight. Movie peach was just too aggressive and always chose violence, also she didn’t have any of her magical abilities, emotion powers, or even her parasol which she always has

Actually, this is how it would go if it was made by Disney:
-Have Peach act like a complete jerk to Mario the entire movie, always mocking him at every turn, then have a scene where she plays the victim card by claiming to have been oppressed her whole life without any support and claim that Mario has had life handed to him and is loved by everybody when it’s quite the opposite.
-Donkey Kong would be a twist villain.
-Bowser would be redeemed in the end after Luigi gives him a pep talk.
And Princess Peach would be a trans male to female.

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish was awesome. Super Mario Brothers was excellent. The way they did them was the way good movies were/are done. Disney seems to have forgotten that.
They both could have also ended up being bad . The first puss in boots was rather meh . There was no guarantee that he 2nd would be good or better . If the Mario movie didn’t had any interference from Nintendo illumination would have ruined it with a lot of silly fart jokes and annoying and dumb side characters

I've been editing portions for JAR ever since our collab about Junkie.
Grant you, it's usually only portions and not entire videos, but I've been there for the beginning of the Spoctor video, I edited the episode 7 and 8 segments of the She-Hulk video, I did a portion of the Seth the Programmer video (though I did notice a lot of that was re-edited.), and I've done some for the future DaftPina video JAR talks about in the epilogue.
It is though, pretty funny to look back at my garbage video on him from 2016 and see where we're at now. It's been a particularly interesting arc.

I agree with everything you said. After seeing the movie, I can say that peach let mario into her heart after seeing how skilled he became after his training. On top of that, the cast is quite diverse, and is an example of true representation. People want to do things, when you make a movie with no overt nonsense, you'll make money. Puss in boots 2 was also good.

For some reasons I appreciate DW (at the extent old Pixar) more than Disney due to they makes the most beloved and iconic franchises/movies of all time like HTTYD, KFP, shrek, prince of egypt, road to eldorado, spirit, rise of the guardians, megamind, all the stop motion movies from Aardman who are distributed by them, the bad guys, the last wish and the captain underpants movie and etc.
Dreamworks has always done its own thing and while it doesn't always work you can tell what they were going for to a certain degree.
I mean, Megamind made at least 2 memes (No Tooth Fairy and PRESENTATION), Shrek's a meme train four light-years long, Prince of Egypt was Iconic, Bad Guys was still good even though it barely followed the plot of the book series it was based off AT ALL, and it still did good.

The Mario movie made some deep pulls. There’s literally an ice climber shop in the background towards the end. Ice climber hasn’t had a new game since 1985. Literally no kid will know ice climber outside of smash.
I hope illumination will also do 2d animated movies in the future like dreamworks and disney did
Can confirm, the 4 and 5 year old kids in our family, mostly my nephews and nieces not only don't watch Disney, they openly hate them. And this isn't exactly a group who care about politics, wokeness, left or right, or anything like that so get that out of your head right now.
These are kids. Little kids who don't even know what these things are and have no opinions about them. They just want good movies. Funny movies, movies that are enjoyable to watch. When I was a kid I loved grabbing my VHS copy of the Emperors new groove and to this day I still own not only that copy... Somewhere lol... But also Blu ray copies, copies of other movies I like so on. I believe this is going to be the start of the fall of Disney. Nostalgia is what kept people coming back to them. People came to their movies cause they love Disney and loved movies they made. I'm 100% sure that everyone reading this comment right now loves at least one movie they made, a show they made, a character they made.
But now imagine the kids who are not enjoying it like we did. They will grow up not caring about Disney and this is when they will stop being a company. I firmly believe that entertainment media is in fact a game of quality. if you can not maintain quality you will fall. And I don't care if you are the biggest of big dogs or the lowest of the low. Crap doesn't sell no matter how much you polish that turd. My old media teacher once taught us this lesson saying "When you are in media you're competition is not the other shows, the other comics, the other stories. It's everything. Everything is gunning for everyone's attention. Quality is the way to rise to the top" And Disney has lost all it's quality and so when the kids now grow up they won't care anymore
