4:46 I completely forgot how fitting and beautiful Jack Frost's version of the Dreamworks logo was. Definitely one of my favorites. Also yes, Puss in Boots and The Bad Guys has me looking very favorably in Dreamworks' direction again. Here's to their continued brilliance going forward.
They’re definitely throwing more heavy hitters out than Pixar is these days. Poor Pixar, always stuck under the boot of Disney no matter how much they want to innovate. Thankfully we still get to enjoy amazing new dreamworks movies though.
I never really realized how unique the dreamworks logos were before until you pointed it out. They really did blend into the movies so well. Also, I hope you’re doing well, James. Been praying for you.
It is sad to see the unique logos disappear. It would have been so cool to see Puss do something cool for the intro, have him sit on the moon before revealing the moon as one of Death's sickles for Last Wish. Unfortunately it's likely we won't get anything unique like that again.
I never realized how many dreamworks films had unique or especially beautiful logos until you showed them all together. Thanks James for giving them a spotlight and helping those of us who skip credits appreciate them more! Hope they still do creative things with the new one!
@@lukastace3154 yeah he's been mentioning on twitter that he could really use some normal replies right now, so I wanted to do what I could. I'd imagine a comments section full of sadness is not what he needs
Whenever I see the 90s DreamWorks logo, it always put tears in my eyes. Kudos to John Williams for making that logo feel so nostalgic and helping people bring back so many memories!
I love how so much stuff can happen to a person and yet still has time to talk about animated movies. I love this guy and I hope everything is going well for him
My heart goes out to you and your dedication to this channel, Schaff. My condolences to Patrick and Chris, I hope you will be able to recover and properly grieve over them. We'll all still be here no matter how long you take.
He said on Twitter that he intends to make videos soon to get a feeling of normalcy to cope with what happened, and asked for people to respect his decision. He's obviously crushed by what happened but people cope in different ways.
After everything you’ve been going through and you’re still uploading… Man dude you’re strong. You deserve so much longer to rest and Grieve, but regardless I’ll enjoy this video. Much love from all of us💙
I love the old DreamWorks logo for its simplicity, and for how appropriate such a fantasy-esque night sky image is for a studio with the word "dream" in its name. It's as if they're saying "yeah, we know we can be cash-grabbing losers sometimes, but in the end, it's all about making dreams a reality." And I fall for it every darn time. I don't know if I'll warm up to the much more mainstream feel of the new one, and you make a good case for tailoring the intro to each movie. But we'll see. It's good to hear your voice, James.
Idk if they’ve even been “cash-grabbing losers” necessarily bc they use the money from boss baby troll stuff to fund other projects, right? Or is that a generous assumption 😅
Holy shit. It's good to see you Schaff. I know this was made 3 weeks ago before the incident, but I hope you're holding up well. We're all here for you and hope you make a good recovery. Love you man
I will admit that the variations were way better when it comes to setting things up. I remember watching HTTYD for the first time and there were kids in the theater who said "did you see that?" When Toothless flies behind the logo but still kinda ominous given how he blends with the night/ dark. Setting up a titular/pivotal character without actually revealing him too early
The HTTYD one worked extra well because it's accurate to the movie's own timeframe. Like, it goes directly from nighttime in the logo to nighttime in Berk, which is only minutes before the dragons attack. Toothless was there ahead of time, hence why he appears in the logo. Maybe he knew the rest of the dragons were on the way and got there early to scout where the defense towers were, so he could take them out more quickly? Crazy that a logo adds to the movie's story even before it technically starts
Our dear James, I really hope the unimaginable pain you've been suffering through has started to subside at least a little bit. I wish you every ounce of strength you need going forward to be able to do what you love and find enjoyment in all the little things. You have my deepest condolences and I pray for you, Patrick and Chris. Rest in peace to them.
@@Regeor the thing that sucks is, even if people have the best intentions, they'll still end up talking about it in terms of a "I hope it gets better" sort of way. But in doing so, they're still bringing up a very painful subject.
Leave it to Schaffrillas to give us a solid reason as for why the new Dreamworks logo is a mixed bag, and even showing us why the varitans of the Dreamworks logo were all such amazing things. Another 10/10 production, good sir!
@@umnm maybe because Madagascar was absent is due to the fact that PDI/DreamWorks was shuttered due to the restructuring at DreamWorks and amount of box office bombs in 2014 and 2015
I personally like the new one as much as I liked the previous ones, they all give me that odd nostalgic ready for a fun and maybe wonderous experience seeing the film. I personally don't mind Trollz and Boss Baby there, but if Madagascar or Megamind were there that would make it better
@@TheWonderingSoul09 Him, His Brother, and Chris got into a car crash. His brother and Chris passed away and James was critically injured. But he pulled through.
@@TheWonderingSoul09 James and Patrick Phryillas were involved in a car crash in Pennsylvania, Patrick and their friend Chris Schaffner didn't survive the crash. May they rest in peace
I first was upset that they were changing the classic logo, but after watching this video, I am even more upset. I didn't realize how them slightly changing the logo in each movie made such an impact, where it would subtly set the tone for the movie. Hopefully Dreamworks doesn't start going the Marvel route and create a universe where all the characters coexist.
The most challenging thing with logos is making people care/pay attention to them. Dreamworks had the formula to do that, granted they're not the first to do it but they executed it perfectly. Now they decided to throw that away for some reason.
I know we're all amazed by his resilience in uploading in such a hard time, but let's honor his wishes to keep up the good spirits by engaging with the actual video with the comments too! For example: I can't believe they're sending the Boss Baby BACK IN TIME TO THE FIRST THANKSGIVING TO GET BABIES OFF THE MENU
To be fair, I believe a majority of the script and VO was likely finished before the crash. I’m not sure if he’s still in the hospital, but if he was, I’d be very surprised if he could get this voice-over quality from a busy, 24/7 run building with people in need (including himself) everywhere. Not gunna undermine that he still DID go through with, at the very least, editing, which is a tedious process, so soon after. I wish for a swift recovery for him and I commend him for pushing forward. Cheers to Schaff, and respects for those who died. F for them.
One of my favorite opening logos was actually the first How to Train Your Dragon where in brief moments a night fury flies through the sky and blocks out the stars for a split second. It’s nothing too flashy but it really works in my opinion.
I remember as a kid playing The Lost World: Jurassic Park on the PS1, the game itself was published by DreamWorks Interactive and they had the DreamWorks logo before the game starts except the boy whose fishing off the moon finally catches a bite at the end of his fishing line and while he’s about to reel it in he is quickly pulled down from the moon to the sounds of ravenous velociraptors. Best DreamWorks logo ever
What about the Medal of Honor (I think?) one where he attempts to parachute off the moon, only for the chute to get caught on the bottom of the crescent?
Didn’t think you’d be talking about this, great to see you cover it! I definitely wouldn’t mind more side videos on topics like this, they’re fun to watch! The Fire Emblem in Smash video is still one of my favorites from you!
You're so strong for still uploading during such an awful time. We will support you no matter what, and if you need time to grieve, your fanbase will never stop with your amazing channel. You've kept me entertained for 3 years at this point, here's to 10 more.
Honestly, I like the concept of swooping through all the awesome Dreamworks characters like Bossbaby but it did seem to drag JUST a little bit. The MCU's big pullback through characters at least has the triumphant, exciting fanfare to make it FEEL like it goes faster than it does. The Dreamworks theme is so reflective and soft that it feels much more like a commercial than an introduction
I feel like the old one was just timeless. I just think the new one wont age well in 20 years the same way the old one did. ESPECIALLY with the clever ways they would integrate it in the movies, that was almost my favorite part
the dreamworks logos used to blow my mind as a kid. with every other company they were separate from the movie but that wasn’t the case with dreamworks. the one that especially freaked me out was the sharktale one with the screaming worm
This video really reminded me how good the old opening use to be for each movie. It's been so long since I've rewatched most of them I completely forgot how unique they all were. This was a better trip down memory lane than the new Dreamworks opening.
literally just started bawling when thinking about how despite what’s going on his still making sure to upload content (even if it’s cued content). schafrillas has been through the worst possible thing imaginable to me, i just hope he takes the time he needs and can heal eventually even if that’s no time soon or we never get an update. My heart seriously goes out to him, his family, and everyone else effected by everything that happened.
Thankfully the version in Trolls: Band Together showed off Alex and Marty, Eep, and Puss in Boots as part of the logo. Also, they did a transition into the Trolls scrapbook style after the logo.
Glad that Schaffrillas is posting again after the whole accident. It takes a lot of strength to bounce back from something traumatic like that and still produce content. Much respect to him.
The logo itself is filled with magic and nostalgia, but they really should have included characters from Madagascar, Megamind and other Dreamworks movies ✨

it was already made a while ago and released by his editors he would still be physically recovering and even tho he said hed get back to making videos after that its a lot to ask of somone who just lost their brother and best friend
I agree, I'm not really sure why DreamWorks needed to focus on brand recognition for their new intro when their old intros were already very recognizable, especially with how well they flowed with the movies they were trying to adapt to. Also, I hope that you're doing well and recovering from what happened, and once again, I'm so sorry for your loss... ❤️🕊️

@@sirpugsly1559 oh hes not in the hospital anymore actually! He got out a while ago and was only there for 3 days; I suggest reading up on the thread he's posted on twt
This was quite the surprise when I saw it in theatre. I heard someone audibly say "where's Megamind?". I have to agree, the initial transition is one of the most memorable part of these movies sometimes even strating them off like in shark tale when he casts the worm into the ocean. Movie studios are no longer brave enough to do original films so they're gonna rely on the franchises more and more even though they have clear cut endings with no cliffhangers. As much as I'd like to see a Megamind 2 for the memes and nostalgia I really don't. I want more new movies LIKE Megamind or the guardians that blew my mind like when they came out. Even "mid" moves like monsters vs aliens are fun to go back to because they age so well and their humor is good enough that adult me will still laugh at the more mature jokes that went over my head as a kid.
This is a genuinely really interesting analysis, I remember loving the special animations during the opening logos a few years ago, I think it’s been so long since I’ve been to the theater that I forgot that Dreamworks would change it up every once in a while (I’ve only seen Sonic 2 and the last wish at the theater post Covid lmao). So when I saw the new logo, I was really excited, but I can definitely understand not being the biggest fan of it, cool video! :)
Exactly, my same thought as well! I liked the new opening when I saw it but thats also cause I forgot they did such unique things with the old ones. I kind of wish they would do the opening twice just so they could have both hahaha
Hi Schaff, I know this is just one of thousands of comments but I am glad you’re recovering. The logos from the before times were the sauce, with their thematic matching. You pretty much put my thoughts into words about the old overshadowing the new. Awesome video!
I’ve always loved the HTTYD dreamworks logo, the music that fits so well and send chills, the hidden toothless flying in the background and that transition into the actual film I’ve loved all of it! I can see they put some love into their new logo but it also feels like they gave up, threw in the towel. Instead of creating something special for some really good movies just have the same “special” opening for all movies.. we have had that simple “dreamworks” logo for years with only few changes to it but the format was practically the same. No idea why they decided to lay that all to rest with this bright colourful intro it definitely won’t fit well with a darker movie. I genuinely do think simpler can be better. Rest In Peace wonderful logo Also just hear about the news, sending love and support!
So happy your okay man, I can not even imagine what you've been through. You are a warrior and such a strong guy and hope things only get better for you. I personally think the brand new Dreamworks logo copies the Marvel logo!

I love it when the logo is changed to match the movie you're watching. It's fun, imaginative, and makes the film you're watching feel more like an experience. And even some company that use their famous characters and images with their logos have found ways to play with them for the movie, in spite of a known element from another picture already being there. Like when WALL•E had to fix Luxo Jr's bulb at the end of his film. Or when Wakko Warner joined Bugs Bunny in opening Wakko's Wish- only to eat the shield much to the famous rabbit's disgust. Or the various times Cinderella Castle got abducted by aliens, turned into a pop up book, became a Tron palace, got lost in a scary forest, or got zapped by a bootleg machine. But you can't really play with a logo when you've crammed so many characters in it.

It doesn’t immerse me in the story about to come and that’s what made the original logo so great, simple, and creative! Shark Tale is a perfect example of how it was easy to transition from the boy in the moon to the story in the ocean with his fishing rod.
another of my favorite Dreamworks openings: How To Train Your Dragon. if you pay attention, you can actually see the shadow of Toothless fly across the top of the screen. it's such an easy detail to miss but SO cool if you know about it.
It seems, particularly in the late 2010s - 2020s that studios are terrified to temper their image for a film. Given the success of Disney and other corresponding brands, I wasn't suprised by this update. Also, delayed video or otherwise, it is always great to see your passion on screen. Welcome back, Schaff.

You’ve been my favorite UA-camr for the longest time and there’s nothing more I’d want for you than to find happiness again. I’m sorry Schaffrillas, I hope the best for you
You actually changed my mind on this subject. I was originally all for the new logo (at least in theory, in execution it’s kinda eh) because having a consistent logo tied the films together better, but despite it being pretty obvious I never really thought about how stylising the logo around the film gave the films a little bit more personality as well as giving the audience a feel for the movie before the first scene had even started.
There's something special about a logo that says "Hey, here's a hint of the story you're about to see" rather than "Hey, we're the guys who made this other stuff, here's another thing we made!"
There's no reason for Dreamworks to "tie the films together better" though. Puss in Boots doesn't have anything to do with How to Train Your Dragon or Kung Fu Panda. It's not like the Marvel Studios logo where all the films they show clips of are in fact part of the same story, along with the movie that plays after the logo.
@@VitalVampyr it matters to me, because when I see a more standard Dreamworks logo it evokes a cozy nostalgic feeling as it reminds me of the Dreamworks films I’ve loved since childhood. Although this logo fails at that because I have no emotional attachment to Trolls of Boss Baby.

I do like the idea that every movie to have this new logo could basically have a dice roll on which dreamwork movies make an appearance. And, even if it's already been said a lot, I am shocked you'd be back so soon after the accident. I hope you're ok, man.
I never realized how much I enjoyed the Dreamworks intros until you pointed out some of the cool ones, they really do a great job of not only setting the tone of the film, but the vibe of the studio as a whole; being self-aware & comedic while also simple & elegant I have no clue how long they’ll stick to this new intro style, but I hope find a balance with their classic title cards if they’re sticking with this new highlight reel style
Schaffrillas, all I can say is I know how it feels, wanting to get the things you enjoy done and things you feel like you have to get done after an event that breaks you. It’s hard, but it takes strength, and you are very strong. You’ve made me smile growing up, so I pray for the best for you!
I was relieved when I learned that they can interchange who will appear in the new logo cause I wanted "team friendship" to appear there, but yeah you're right, the different styles of logos to fit the movie was so unique
Honestly, I just think the new logo has a sort of peace to it. It's beautiful to see all the creations of DreamWorks to prepare you for what you're about to watch. Good to hear you're ok btw. Hope you're doing alright
While it is cool to see the creations, as he said, do we really want to go into the new Era by showing the past? Take a look at Disney, they had the same logo with minimal variations for decades, then switched it up because Dreamworks was getting popular. Even watching a video about it, Disney/Pixar used the same logo opening from Toy Story 1 to Ratatouille. Now Dreamworks is switching to what Disney brand is doing. IMO not the best move.
I think they might’ve introduced all these movies before the logo now because they are kind of vague. Like pixar and disney we know them firmly? But dreamwork was always quiet and out of zone? So i was surprised (as a casual movie person) that dreamworks made so many popular animations, and got excited and i now remember their logo!
I’m so glad your okay James, I was not expecting a new video out so quickly. I’m really sorry about what happened recently and hope your doing much better. I love your content and keep being awesome!!
I SUPER AGREE WITH THIS. The fact that the DreamWorks intro changes varying on what movie you're watching from them, it's like one of the best traits of DreamWorks movies that give them personality. One of my major problems of the intro is _THAT._
In the movie, it shows Stuart riding a kart modeled after Gru’s bike from Minions 2. And the Illumination logo is a traffic light with the Mario Kart 8 sound.
I’m so happy to see you again but I also hope you’re not forcing yourself to upload for us. I hope making videos does still bring you a sense of joy that will help you get through these hard times. We love you, Schaff. Thank you so much for still doing content for others struggling too.
I hope you are doing well and not overworking yourself so quickly after such an event. Thank you for everything you do, and many hopes to you in the future.
6:00 Great, now I can't stop imagining Puss in Boots sitting on the moon fishing and drinking a bottle of milk while the camera zooms out and reveals the moon as Death's sickle with red eyes watching him in the background, perfectly portraying Puss' fearless attitude that puts his life in danger and his upcoming encounter with him.
Fully agree with all these points, the custom introfor each movie was always such a great touch in DreamWorks movies. Now I have to sit through the same MCU-esque intro every time I watch a new movie PS: glad to know you are doing well James, was heartbroken by the news, great work keeping up the uploads

The logo from the road to Eldorado has always been a favorite of mine because it transitions so smoothly into the opening sequence
Same. I also distinctly remember something to do with the Kung Fu Panda movies I believe? I always loved seeing the variations in my childhood :c
Right

I first was upset that they were changing the classic logo, but after watching this video, I am even more upset. I didn't realize how them slightly changing the logo in each movie made such an impact, where it would subtly set the tone for the movie. Hopefully Dreamworks doesn't start going the Marvel route and create a universe where all the characters coexist.
Yeah man
Mort is the Thanos of the Dreamworks Cinematic Universe
The most challenging thing with logos is making people care/pay attention to them. Dreamworks had the formula to do that, granted they're not the first to do it but they executed it perfectly. Now they decided to throw that away for some reason.

Best DreamWorks logo ever
Wow I'm surprised that it wasn't reused for the Camp Cretaceous opening logo at least once.

Ironically the 2019 fanfare would've fit perfectly.
I feel like the old one was just timeless. I just think the new one wont age well in 20 years the same way the old one did.

I can see they put some love into their new logo but it also feels like they gave up, threw in the towel. Instead of creating something special for some really good movies just have the same “special” opening for all movies.. we have had that simple “dreamworks” logo for years with only few changes to it but the format was practically the same.

Appreciate you Schaff :)
what happened to him?

I hope you are getting better and I'm sorry for your loss
Wow, I didn't think we'd get a new video for a while, yet here we are. I'm glad Schaff is recovering quickly, let's just hope he's not overworking himself at this time.
Read the description of the video, damn
Hey Schaff, I read the description and I’m glad you’re taking your time getting back into making videos. Take as much time as you need to come back and I hope you do it when your healthy
Good to know you're doing better, man. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I hope Patrick and Chris are doing well, wherever they are. I'm glad that you've been able to bounce back.

@@umnm That is not at all what I meant. I was trying to say, "I'm glad you are feeling better." I am not such a horrible person that I would be happy that people died in order to get funnier videos. I was just trying to be nice.

I feel like Patrick and Chris are still with us.
I feel that when someone touches us very well, they never feel like they left us, even though they are dead.
As Luke Skywalker said, “no one’s ever really gone”.
Their legacy and their influence continues to live with us. Their memories and their dreams.
This video was made a while ago, just uploaded now.
Hey man, good to see you're back. Your channel is one of my top favourites on a lazy day just to kick back and watch something I know I'll enjoy. Please make sure to give yourself time when you need it. We'll still be here when you come back 🥰
I do like the idea that every movie to have this new logo could basically have a dice roll on which dreamwork movies make an appearance.
And, even if it's already been said a lot, I am shocked you'd be back so soon after the accident. I hope you're ok, man.
@dream wth is wrong wirh you

I never realized how much I enjoyed the Dreamworks intros until you pointed out some of the cool ones, they really do a great job of not only setting the tone of the film, but the vibe of the studio as a whole; being self-aware & comedic while also simple & elegant
I have no clue how long they’ll stick to this new intro style, but I hope find a balance with their classic title cards if they’re sticking with this new highlight reel style

I think they were unmemorable because their previous logo blended too much with the actual movie for some reason haha
*I'm better than Schaffrillas Productions, my content is better!*
@@OldMan_age65 your channel is about abusing innocent people. Get some actual decent content. Then we'll talk
I’m so glad your okay James, I was not expecting a new video out so quickly. I’m really sorry about what happened recently and hope your doing much better. I love your content and keep being awesome!!

6:56 me! He’s talking about me!
(I saw the movie 8 times in theaters)
I SUPER AGREE WITH THIS. The fact that the DreamWorks intro changes varying on what movie you're watching from them, it's like one of the best traits of DreamWorks movies that give them personality. One of my major problems of the intro is _THAT._
7:13 All The Super Mario Bros. Movie trailers show the Illumination logo without any minions, probably because Nintendo wouldn't let them include any.

Great, now I can't stop imagining Puss in Boots sitting on the moon fishing and drinking a bottle of milk while the camera zooms out and reveals the moon as Death's sickle with red eyes watching him in the background, perfectly portraying Puss' fearless attitude that puts his life in danger and his upcoming encounter with him.
dreamworks needa hire u
Fully agree with all these points, the custom introfor each movie was always such a great touch in DreamWorks movies. Now I have to sit through the same MCU-esque intro every time I watch a new movie
PS: glad to know you are doing well James, was heartbroken by the news, great work keeping up the uploads
