Don’t pay attention to the haters on social media. Except me of course!😅 But Kane is still as valuable as ever. Exactly the type of player that might have gotten us past Florida. I hope that Kane is able to get healthy and if it takes a good portion of the season, so be it. I don’t know anything about Kane’s personal business but he did some really classy things for the City. As long as we can assemble a winning team in the playoffs, let the regular season help develop the on and off ice chemistry. JJ is being very aggressive and it’s fun to watch.

At 3:55 of the podcast: The "room" did not want Zadorov. A good player, and a force; no doubt. But he crossed the line with the things he said. The counterweight was the signing of Josh Brown. Without Evander having to oppose Zadorov almost single handedly, and probably getting hurt beyond return in doing so, we probably win the Cup.
Like David, I'm glad he's out of our Conference.

I think there is more pressure on them to get better now. They have 4 first round picks in their line up right now and have 5 more waiting in the wings. McLeod is serviceable and has been to a SCF. And is about to turn 25 and Sabres have a young team of mostly drafted and developed players. Gives experience of winning in a room that hasn't had much. Though McLeod was probably the only oiler that didn't find another gear on that run, so not sure he can teach them what it takes to win, because he didn't seem to learn that.

    • @Polytrout

@@Polytrout why on earth would he take his game to the next level in NY as a 3rd line center and PKer on a bad team. But not elevate his game playing on a 2nd line with Draisaitl for months?
      His ceiling has been reached.
Bottom 9 guy on a good team bottom 6 on a weak team.
Foegele had a career year with 20 goals and 41 points thanks to those games. And McLeod regressed from last year.
This is as good as it gets for him I would imagine. He's turning 25 this summer. That's generally when forwards peak 25-26 then start to decline around 27.

    • @Polytrout

While McLeod has fantastic speed. He's about to turn 25, and we're still waiting for him to take that next step, and have been for like 2 maybe 3 years.
I think the playoffs sealed his fate. He had more ice time per game than Foegele Holloway Brown & Janmark.
He had about the same regular season results as Panthers Evan Rodrigue.
I remember huge game impacting moments from all the above players in the playoffs (offensively & Defensively). Not sure I saw McLeod in the playoffs.
Everyone found another gear except him.
Wish him luck in Buffalo. But we needed to clear cap space and he was one player easily sacrificed. Far less sting than Foegele.

I do remember a few years ago it was hot summer Brad when the flames gm had all the hype and love for his dealings in the offseason…. Catapulted flames into a rebuild. These signings all sound good but remember this is signing a 30,30,31,31,32,34,&39 year olds the youngest 4 combined for 14 goals and 2 major injuries and of the oldest 3 it’s a player that was just bought out, and a player that was healthy scratched multiple times so while on paper the line up looks incredible, zero games are won in the offseason keep in mind

I sure hope this Matthew Savoie is an intense player because he's only 5"9".
The thing that worries me about small players is that if they stopped growing at 14, they probably won't get much better physically. Big players continue to grow up to age 18 or 19 even 20 and then they grow into their bodies. Intensity can make up for lacking size and overcome a slight skill disadvantage.

@@Polytrout Im more worried about the weight of these small players rather then height. He's 180lbs and will get on that NHL regimen now. Yamamoto was only 155lbs and never gained any weight throughout his career in comparison

    • @Polytrout
      @Polytrout 7 днів тому

@drogontargaryen3428 Indeed, weight is an important consideration that slipped my mind. Now that you mention it, Kyler Yamamoto is a great example to your statement. A couple of other examples would be Johnny Gaudreau and Cole Caufield. These guys are fast and skilled enough to build the nucleus of a Stanley Cup champion if not for their weight. At levels of the AHL or below, maybe their speed and skill can overcome their lacking weight. In the NHL, however, even if their speed is greater than most, even the slowest players are fast enough not necessarily to keep up but to make the speed slightly less advantageous.
Make no mistake, I love it that players are faster and more skilled, but at the end of the day, skill and speed are only an advantage if you have sufficiently more of it than your opponent.

But - perry was a bad signing - not a disaster but takes up some cap and a roster spot.
There’s only one puck and lots of players used to having it.

Do you expect him to do cart wheels and back flips on the ice as soon as he gets out of the hospital after his scheduled surgery at the end of the summer? Also, Matt Savoi is just as ready as Bedard was and they threw Bedard into the deep end of the pool. These guys aren't toddlers. Jackson acquired him to put him in the Oiler line up in the 2nd half of the season maybe sooner. You're pumped up on Kane, but there is a high probability Jackson will ask him to waive his NTC and Kane will be traded banking on the fact that Kane's recovery will be quick. If not Kane will be on LTIR for as long as Jackson can keep him out and free up the cap space for a blockbuster trade.
