    After 2000 miles now. I am always getting compliments from big bike guys. The few mods I have made so far, this bike works. From touring to small races . Single track and two track

      Yes, that's what I've found too. There is a perceived view that because it's only 300cc, it's no good. I often get people commenting on how capable it is.

    Got a Rally myself but haven't been able to ride as much a I would have liked, love it though, my first adventure/offroad bike so I got nothing to compare it to but I think it's awesome :D
    Subscribed cause I would love to see more, I'll just have to remind myself you are in Australia because when you turned onto the tarmac I was like "wrong side of the road, wrong side!" :p

    Great video! Looks like a awesome place to ride. The rally looked right at home with those big bikes and probably more fun to ride! If Honda would only make everyone happy and make 400cc model,but I still can’t wait to get mine! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

      I agree with you... if they could make it even a 350-390 that would have enough power/torque to keep most people happy.
      I am curious what a big bore kit would do to this motor, but I defiantly don't want to lose the Honda reliability. Maybe in 50,000km when the motor is broken in I'll consider it.

      @@bigcornel9302 Yes I put a deposit on one, but they don’t know when there coming in. The 22 model still isn’t listed on the Canadian website. The sales guy who I know fairly well told me to check in with him at the end of January. We have snow here usually till April so it’s no biggie for me lol. When I find something out I’ll let u know.     After almost pulling the trigger on a Tenere, currently riding an adventurised DRZ400, I'm seeing the merits of the CRF3 Rally. Rationale being; I'm over 50 with a previous crushed disc and hernia, both stable. Realistic expectations, less is more approach and low, low costs appear to make so much sense. Low fuel consumption equals more adventure miles under the belt. Tho I'm in no real hurry to update, I think this will be my next bike.

      CRF 300 sounds like a great choice for you. Similar weight to DRZ400 but much more comfortable.

    I sold my 2020 AT for my 300 Rally, No regrets. I prefer the rally.

      @@ricardosacub Hi Ricardo, I have no regrets about downsizing from the Africa Twin to the 300 Rally.
      I'm enjoying riding it more and exploring more places. I am already riding it more than I rode my Africa Twin. It's so easy to ride, I even take it down to the shops to get milk. 😁

      Hi Stuart, glad I could help. When I was trying to make my mind up there weren't many videos showing the full potential of this bike. I've decided to fix that problem and showcase its ability and potential.
      Just remember, depending on your weight and what type of riding you want to do, it will need at least the shock worked on or replaced. Even the budget YSS is a great replacement.

      Yes, my suspension is a big improvement over stock. The standard valving may need work if you're going to ride it off-road at any type of pace. If you're just touring, it should be fine.

    I have had a 2 WR250Rs, 2 WR450Fs, YZ450F (before reverse engine), and a DRZ400E, Ive come to agree with the old saying, its more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow.

      I couldn't agree with you more. Sure I could ride the Africa Twin faster on more open tracks, but nothing beats the feeling of getting the most out of a small bike and riding it at it's limits.

    Amazing video! Thank you. I’m looking at this bike for a weekday commuter through Sydney and weekend adventurer. With stock tires (or just not full off-road tires) do you think this could be a commuter or I’m a better off getting something like KTM390 Adv or CB500X? Thanks again :)

      Hi TMike, thanks for your comments.
      Yes, the bike would make a great commuter. I recently got back from a ride on Stockton Beach and rode 100km each way up the freeway to get there and back. I use mine all the time to go to the shops etc... I actually look for excuses to ride it.
      How far and what types of roads is your commute? I will do the occasional commute from the Central Coast to Sydney on mine. It does the freeway fine but is a lot more fun on the old Pacific Highway.

    Great vid. When the CRF 300 first came out I wrote it off in my head a little due to the capacity thinking it would struggle on those road sections with luggage. But seems like it goes alright. I've always been meaning to do those tracks you went on. Whats the junction you came out at, at Jerrys Plains?

      The 300 Rally will surprise a lot of people. It has exceeded my expectations.
      We came out where the Commission Rd meets Apple Tree Flat Rd, Appletree Flat, just up the road from Jerrys Plains.
      It's a great ride, you should give it a go.

      Hi Juan, thanks for the nice comment. In that video I was using an "Air Mesh" seat cover on the standard seat.
      I then upgraded to a Seat Concepts seat and still use the air mesh cover over that.

    great vlog ... the 300 rally is an excellent adv bike for a light rider (I also like the CB500X as a light tourer) ... however I think bigger heavy dudes might need some more power to carry their weight and size ... whats your view of the 300 rally with bigger heavy riders ...

      Thanks for the kind words. You touch on a important issue... Power to weight ratio.
      I think the 300 would be fine for heavier riders but some of the "fun" as I call it may be reduced. As an adventure bike, once the suspension was set up for rider weight, I think anyone would enjoy this bike. Keeping in mind that performance is not a priority.

    I started Using the new Sena camera and honestly couldn’t be happier. Have you done a complete video on your 300 setup, suspension, tuning, pipe while going over weight stats between weights

    I'm really enjoying your content. You're the only one I've seen pushing the little rally. I've been seriously considering one but I worry about its ability to keep up with my not holding back on the trails. I'm also a bigger guy, so the power on the pavement while carrying luggageis a bit worrisome.

      Thanks for your comments. I'm heading off now on a trip to the Simpson Desert. I'm loaded up with everything I need to do the trip unsupported, so I'm carrying a bit of weight. I'll be able to report back on how the bike goes for with extra weight.
      Even if performance is reduced on the highway, it's such a wonderful bike to ride off road that I think it will still make an enjoyable trip.
      You will need to get the suspension set-up for your weight,.but once that's done, you can ride it hard.

    4:49 I have problems with the KTM 890, it just slides, my KLX 300 just a controlled descent, no problems at all. Your bike is awesome!

      Yes, I'm glad you noticed that. The weight and power of bigger bikes works against them sometimes. Smaller bikes like your KLX and my CRF are much easier to ride.

    Good video! I am waiting to ride once all the snow melts here in Central Washington State USA. I really like the bike but have only got to put 115 miles on it so I have not even got to brake it in yet.

      I'm 70kg. The stock suspension is fine but as soon as you start pushing it fast or over rough ground you will need to at least put heavier springs in it. I've had both ends redone and it's transformed the bike.

    Good to see some real world footage. How heavy are you and is it stock standard?
    I'm 80kg and considering the switch from my WR250R for what I'm assuming would be better road riding. (And probably upgrade the suspension, if it's as bad as they say)

      I'm 68kg but the suspension has been re-sprung and re-valved for an 80-100kg rider. It's a bit stiff for me.
      I had a WR250R and the 300 Rally is a much better bike for adventure rides, it handles the road much better.

      @@MichaelShaw206 I had a WR250R and the reason I sold it was because it was a pain to ride long distances on the road. The CRF 300 Rally is so much better. Even more so with my 14/38 gearing.

    What was the sign thing you mentioned? National park? 300 performs well. I like 600cc sports bikes for the same reason, you can work the gearbox more. Is your suspension stock? Any complaints?

      On the sign there was the graphic for "Walking track", I totally missed that and that's why we ended up having to turn our bikes around on the edge of that drop down into the creek.
      All my mods are listed in the video description, but my stock suspension has been reworked and is great. If you watch my CRF 300 Rally Review I also detail what's been done and how it performs in my voiceover narrative. Its setup is a little firm for me but still is much better than at all. stock. No complaints.

    Good video. Looks like we ride in the same areas. I was thinking of trading my 790 for the CRF300L, your video is doing a lot to convince me! Pace in the bush looks slightly faster than I do and the CRF is a whole lot cheaper to run and reliable. The change from the 790 can go on suspension then still have a huge chunk left. Looking forward to watching your other crf videos

      As an owner of a 701 I am thinking along the same lines. I just don't need all that power but the Husky is light for it's size, 155kg wet. In a perfect world if I could convert a lot of the higher rpm power to low rpm torque then I would be happy. Any thoughts??

      @@goatie977 never ridden a 701. When I got my 790 I did a test ride on the 790 and 690. Loved the engine/weight of the 690 but 790 looked like the better overall package at the time for bush/adv touring. 690 I would of have to spend a bit of money making it a comfortable all rounder with fuel, seat, luggage etc. I imagine the 701 is closer to CRF300L weight/comfort wise? I guess that would make the decision harder, CRF you only gaining cheaper to buy, run and maintain, less worried about dropping it/repairing because of price, reliability? also can probably ride the 300 harder without getting in to the trouble you would with the 701. I have a 300cc scooter and for me find the power perfectly fine considering it’s only a 300, my scooter comfortably does 120 on highway and enough power for legal speeds on the road. It’s also does 2.4l/100km. 701 would be more fun but for my skills if being honest I’d probably ride the 300 better as had more fun on an old ttr600 and xr250 I’ve ridden before as could push them a lot harder without getting in to trouble compared to my 790. The more i think about it the more I’m talking myself in to the CRF 😂

      @@SomeRandoInternetPoster Yeah tough decision. The suspension on the Husky lets me get away with a lot. A bike with lesser suspension would expose me as the real rider I am tho. 😂

    So glad I come across you channel, I’ve been keen on a 300 rally for a while as I don’t want a bike more than 150 kg and I need a short bike , you’ve answered a lot of questions I had regarding the Honda’s ability to be my ADV bike .👍👍 are you going to do any power mods or are you happy with it like it is ?

      @@TheWanderingGeezer No, it's a full size bike. I found my Yamaha WR250R a little small and I'm only 5'10". This bike feels great.

      Spec say seat height of 885mm my WR 450 is 965 mm so that’s what I consider shorter

    The MX tires help too. Bigger bikes only had some 50/50 tires as far as I can see. Also you might be a better rider, maybe even better insurance ;)

      Yes, and that's a good point... it's easier to get good tyres for the smaller CRF300 and they generally last longer.
      As for the rider comment... :)

    I'm a noob coming from mountain biking and want to get into adv. Would you recommend the Rally over the standard 300L? I will be doing a fair bit of road travel too.

      Hi Dean, I would recommend the Rally over the L if you plan on doing longer road travel. The Rally is a better adventure bike and the L is a better trail bike.
      The Rally has a bigger fuel capacity too.

      Hi Rifet,yes it will but you will need bar riders, maybe taller bars. I tall seat might also make it more comfortable for you. It would be a great first bike.

    This is the video that's pushed me to put my name down for a 300 rally. Used to have a drz, but want more comfort and less carburettors 🙂 I know it's less power, but offroad I'm not too worried about that. Also a sixth gear would be nice

      I've ridden a DRZ for 7 days in Cape York and they are great bikes. The CRF300 Rally is a much more comfortable bike for any adventure or commuting duties. And, the sixth gear is great, it'sa propper overdrive.

      @@ShonkyProductions drz is a great bike, but the one big weakness for me was the carb. Great when it was running properly but when it wasn't.. drove me up the wall. I spent so many hours going over shop manuals, pulling the carb, rebuilding the carb, dialling in the carb etc.. I want a bike that is reliable in its fuelling. I know I probably got a lemon and not everyone has that experience with the drz, but it's not something I want to do again

    Have you done ✅ any Suspesion work ? , some say the rear rebounds bad through the stroke ( like the WR 250 ) and say the standard CRF 300 is better in this department.
    I’m thinking 🤔 of selling my Mid weight ADV and enduro bike for a CRF 300 Rally ( just Keeping my road bike ) , - 2 bikes 1 less rego and insurance ( and cheaper rego ).I have done loads of research. I’m 54 and ride similar in speed to you I think 🤔. A fantastic vid mate comparing to the T7 and 890.

      Hi mate, thanks for your comments. The bike has been re-sprung and re-valved by a local suspension tuner. If you watch my review video I talked more about the suspension.
      Once you set-up the suspension I bet you'll love the 300.

    I'm a beginner and I'm tempted to order the Rally because it seems like the best 'all-rounder'.
    How do you find it at highway speeds? I've watched a few videos and the yanks don't seem to like them at highway speed, although only one video so far has mentioned an actual speed- 80mph (128kmh).
    How well do they ride for long periods at 110kmh?

      Hi mate, the bike is great as an "All rounder" and fine at our Highway speeds here in Australia.
      I've just returned from a weekend away and rode 4 hours non-stop (except for toilet and fuel break) on the freeway at 110-115kph.
      It can keep up with Highway traffic fine. It doesn't have the overtaking power of a bigger bike, so just plan your overtakes a little earlier.

      Gotta remember yank highways can be high speed and high aggression. The general traffic flows at 120+ and you'll get tailgated for doing less. I wouldn't like to ride a small bike on those roads.
      Oz is pretty different, much as we like to complain most drivers are relatively chilled and the average speeds are lower. It's not outrageous to do 90-100 here, in some places in the US you'd get heaps of aggro for that. That colours the US reviews.
      Back to the 300: as Shonk says a steady 110 is fine. Personally I don't like it though so I stick closer to 100 and enjoy the lesser wind noise and better fuel economy, unless I'm in a hurry.

    @Shonky Productions Did you delete abs? if not? how is it? Honest opinion - im thinking about removing the fuse - hows the slipper clutch effect steep down hill engine breaking

      Hi Gromice, that's a great question...
      In my opinion, if you are a competent rider, you will do better without the ABS.
      I have unplugged the ABS pump from the wiring loom. But simply removing the fuse will do the same thing. You get the ABS light ON all the time but everything else is fine.
      I've bought some normal brake lines and will be removing all the ABS equipment soon and making a video on it and why I've done it.
      The slipper clutch is not an issue and if you watch my Adventure Ride video, you will see me doing a lot of steep downhills using just the engine braking.

    What GPS unit are you using?
    Have you installed your 550 ECU yet? I have mine installed( what a difference) I did go down to a 13tin the front. I need to go back to the 14 I lost hiway speed.

      Hi, yes ECU installed.... See my new video.
      I'm using the OSMand app for off-line mapping on a Chinese rugged phone. The phone was cheap, is waterproof and I don't even run a SIM card in it... It's just used as a GPS.
      I really like the OSMand app for a gps.
      I might do a review on that in the future.

      Great videos! I really like the 550 performance Ecu. I want to go back yo my 14 tooth front for hiway use( I dont use it all that much , but when I do the 13 seems too low and it revs at 8500 at 70 mph.
      Thanks for the advice on the Chinese phone for a gps unit. My phone take a beating

    A little bit of advice, buy a tascam DR-05X and purple panda 🎤.
    Record the audio via that, and overlay and mix in the editing process, this all depends on your editing app/program. I use lumafusion, takes a day or two of UA-cam tutorials to get the hang of it, but once you’ve mastered the basics, it gets easier the more you go.
    Tip; clap 3 times in front of the camera at the beginning of your vid to sync up the vid and audio file, the ( sound ) wave files will peak on both device recordings and it’s just a simple matter of click and dragging the visual wave files on your editing app til they match up. If you stop recording ( for any reason ) remember to stop on both devices, and repeat the process when you start again, makes editing waaaaaay less of a headache. Good luck.
    P.S.
    I wire the Mic holding it in place with a Velcro strip in the helmet but tuck it in next to my cheek, keeps the damned thing from pressing against my lips, which annoys the shit outta me...

      Rob, I love the 14/38 gearing. I got this gearing after reading reports from guys that have the 550performance ECU fitted and they were saying it could pull the taller gearing.
      I'm still waiting for my ECU to turn up...I think the 38t is better in gears 1-5 but slightly down on power/torque in 6th.
      Should be perfect when the ECU turns up.

    As off road & single track all's good.. put it through soft sand, sticky mud no good.. as an adventurer, miles of county gravel roads or highways a lot more tiring buzzy motors & really struggle with load & headwinds.. they can do it but not relaxing at all.. small riders & big bikes have never worked.. if you can't pick it up comfortably there's no place for a big bike.. same for road bikes

    It's funny to see you comparing it to "big bikes" which are officially supposed to be middle weights! I agree though, they are big bikes. I have done lots of similar riding in groups and it is often striking that the speed of a bike and rider is sometimes inversely proportional to horse power! That is the DRs and WRs at the front (with the 690s and 701s), the middle weight teneres etc in the middle and those brave enough to ride an 1190/gs1200/ africa twin bringing up the rear!
    It would be interesting to see a comparison of the 300 with the other popular single cylinder bikes. Why would I get a crf 300 instead of a DR 650 for example?

      I'm in that dilemma right now.. 300 Rally or DR650. Fuel injection is a big plus for me, better wind protection, better lighting.
