the trick is to play along while lucid. don't stand still wondering about your realization, move around. the dream will generate new locations because you are expecting that there should be something there. Avoid areas that are fading into black, go somewhere bright, outside with lots of dream people. Sometime dream people will not show up, only dark desolate streets or dark alleys that leads to dead ends, by then you need to "fly" or jump very high and "float" so the dream have to generate a very large area. Flying is safer and effective than running because running will activate your muscle and will break the paralysis which will surely wakes you up. (remember how in the dreams you could not run fast as if your legs were very heavy, thats the sleep paralysis working while you sleep) Flying requires some practice and control. Jumping (then slowly falling) is more doable and reliable. You need to create an object of focus, something that you need to find inside the dream. Like a person you want to meet, or a place you want to go, or some activity you want to do, like for me taking having a scenic bus trip, then aggressively search for that object of focus to distract your mind into thinking you are in a dream. If you found it, interact with it until it's gone or over and then create another one. if you do it right, overtime you will go back to the state where you believe that the dream is the real world and it will not fall apart, while at the same time you are aware that you are dreaming where you can will things to happen anytime you want. If you wake up, don't open our eye, try to sleep again, sometimes you will end up where you left. If you open your eyes while still actively trying to maintain the dream, you could end up with a (terrifying) sleep paralysis experience. Though whether the sleep paralysis is terrifying or benign depends on your state of mind. Anyway that critical point of sleep paralysis is also the easiest gate way to OBE (as oppose to meditation), OBE is essentially just a lucid dream but you enter the dream already lucid and the dream wouldn't fall apart unlike in a regular dream. Though the lucid dream of OBE usually starts from where you are in real life (eg: like in your Bedroom). And thats why it wouldn't fall apart easily because you overlap its existence with whats happening with you in real world.

My problem with this movie is this isn't how dreams play out. They are not sharp focus. They are unstable. Events happen at random. Also, I'm in a minority, but I just didn't buy the premise. Overrated.

The Japanese animation is far more weird and chaotic. But I think that Inception is a far better movie of these two. No disrespect to the original. Just my opinion.
